Okay I felt that is was the G9 video all over again because let's all be honest this S5 has similar level of auto focus to the G9 also it sticks to you until and unless you go out of the frame as for Dynamic range it might look that the A7SIII has more but you guys are a bit wrong it's the S5 because whenever Casey came into the shot the Panasonic starts exposing for his face thus the highlights start to get a bit more brighter thus less recoverable but on the other hand Sony just doesn't even try to expose for his face as for lowlight well one is a mid range full frame and the other was meant for lowlight now you people decide on whether it's even fare to compare that part of the video other than that auto focus wasn't that bad I mean I have seen worse remember the Fuji XT4 well because that's a nightmare to remember well other than that the price is better for S5 thus I can only see a win win situation for all those people who bought a Panasonic S5 also thanks 🌽🥕🥒🍠🍅👮♂️ for giving us the video that we wanted

@Kreed Kafer Spooky haunted paranormal spirit ghost some success with it but I’ve since settled on speed -1 and sensitivity at -4 (locked on) and this has been for me the most reliable do vlog style videos. I'd say continuous auto focus me works most of the time but you always get the odd time where its a bit slow for no reason or just refuses to focus but 90% of the time it working well.

Im that last framed tree shot, I thought my computer suddenly tilted and was falling. THats probably how you meant to make us feel... that’s a real filmmaker achievement. I like It.
I have a Canon R6. In bright light with the source behind you, the focussing system is incredible. When you’re shooting into the light or in low light, it’s really not very good at all.
The Sony is an outragious beast. The Panny at half the price is perfectly decent though, I just wish they made more reasonable lenses for it, where's the nifty fifty Panny?
Not surprised that Sony’s $3K+ video centric camera with the $900 f1.8 lens did better than Panasonics entry-level full frame hybrid with the kit lens, but as far as stress testing the S5 did pretty well overall. I’d be curious to see the S5 against something like the A7IV or the A7C one of these days
LOL he never gonna do it, he Panny hater, I could understand with the GH5 and its billion variation, but the S5 is genuinely good camera, its just, requires some tweaks to get the AF to act properly, Sigma also updated all their lenses so they actually work for a change.
@SMGJohn plus you get 12-bit 5k BRAW now, out of an external recorder... S5 beats the A7s3, apart from AF, slow-mo & record limits. (with a $2,000 less price tag)
As someone who shot Panasonic from 2013 to 2020, man, if the DFD had been as good as S5 even two years ago, I probably wouldn't have switched to Canon this year.
I'm vlogging on my S5 in 60fps using vlog and I get focus 99.999% of the time when the lens is set to manual focus! Luvin the Panasonic 4k60 slowmo camera!
You are fantastic. Best camera review I have ever watched. I can't afford either of these atm, but I couldn't stop watching to watch poor Panny Boy struggle and get blasted.
Nice one bro! My 50 usd Lenovo screen says the folowing: On Pana the picture is significantly softer, but blue is puchier and bigger than life.Form the other hand Sony that I usually hate, here I have to say has a lot more detailed and sharp picture, and while you had mention a lot of red, the skin color looks times better.! And I can combine your dream camera. SONY sensor, Panasonic or blackmagic menu, Olympus stabilisation, canon color science, sound devices xlr inputs, SmallHD screen monitor and gopro price. There you have it, your dream camera.
S5 was better in all aspects apart from autofocus, even the autofocus is very good on the panny boy, I am sold, just ordered an S5 thanks for making my decision easier
That's the camera industry .A double price tag doesn't mean a two times better performance. GFX100 medium format is literally 10K ,but ain't 3 times better than A7RIV .Small vital differences make the huge price gap.
Casey, is that how you spell it? Ive owned every camera brand out there and I find that unless you"re primarily a youtube content creator(which you seem to be i think)then the autofocus on the s5 is more than capable in most cases and any other situations filmmakers will be manually focusing anyway. With the settings set properly you can get rid of the annoying pulsing with background lights that my g85 used to do. I hated that shit so bad! But for any content creating where you're primarily filming yourself for youtube then I'd def get anything other than a panasonic. But that's totally dependent on individuals particular use cases......for the price though the s5 is hard to beat. Enjoy the channel bro, keep it up!
In all honesty the Pany for the win in terms of value! I mean it's giving you so much for the price and you just can't beat Pany for overall value as a Hybrid System. Sony is obviously superior but you pay for it.
The S5 AF definitely seems to be the best Panasonic AF so far. Still not as fast and accurate as the Sony, but for *most* situations it should be adequate. The Sony low-light ability is just amazing.
Jesus dude, I thought you’d finished with Panasonic? Seriously though, the Sony should be the low light king, as it only has 12 megapixels, so each pixel is lapping up the available light. The Sony only does 4k, where as the Panasonic does 5.9k raw output to the ninja v, This is a massive slam dunk for the Panny. Working with raw will give you far more latitude for grading in post, so ultimately the Panny will give you the colours and detail you want. And the Panny is less than half the price of the Sony!!! When you add in the fact that most serious pro’s will be using MF anyway, (preps for irate responses) the only real world advantage of the Sony is it’s great low light performance. But is that really worth the price premium, when you can always add light to a scene. Loving the work dude, keep it coming 👍
With my 20/400 vision (wearing coke bottle bottom glasses since 3rd grade) and an inability to pass the Ishihara color plate test. I’m going for the Panny!
The Sony low light performance is unmatched. The Panasonic looks a bit better when lit properly. To be honest the Panasonic AF is a bit better than I expected - but I have been using a GH5 so I have been conditioned with poor AF.
Of the different brands, I'd say Panasonic has a lifeless kind of drab energy that is imparted to the subject, Sony makes subjects looks super crisp and it feels really expensive/commercial, Canon feels relaxed and happy and makes subjects look healthy and lively. Nikon makes subjects look fun and lighthearted. But I'm curious to know is how much of this you can tweak in post, like how much of the Sony super-sharp crisp look can be recreated on Panasonic? Can Sony be softened and colored like Canon? It's subtle but it's a real feeling that I get when I watch unaltered footage from each camera.
Well that's not a subjective and seemingly biased comment at all! lol. I don't agree with anything you said other than the sony is super crisp and I'd add overly sharpened a touch. But to each their own!
@@Not_Yuto_Horigome Yes it’s true that it’s much more difficult to write out logical proofs and cite research papers etc. that would also include clarifying the definitions of all the words I’ve used to make sure we’re on the same page and so on
the sony had the orange panny skjn color this time! you managed it!😁😁 the sony wins AF, loses very slightly stabilization, panny wins price. so... dunnonow
Best autofocus tests ever. Set up your cameras, do the tests as a cardio warmup before the strength training, and watch the footage afterwards. You may learn nothing but it's way more fun.
Sony A7S iii: No one is talking about the 4+2 Additional Focus Area Tracking modes that appear in the Menu when the camera is in M Stills Mode. Its mentioned in the Sony Guide at the bottom of "Selecting the focus area (Focus Area)", but does not appear in video mode. BTW pressing the red button in stills mode will record video, but no tracking.
Bro I am your fan, please give me your opinion plsss. Choosing between Canon eos R, fujifilm x-t4, olympus, pan gh5s - for vlog/studio setup/studio photo/smm content Your opinion is very very important, you know everything about em) I thinking more towards full-frame...and + autofocus - but understand that R already too old for 2020. Fuji - scared about aps-c, olympus, pan - scared at all)) Thank you in advance.
I think that for video, where there is someone behind the camera, I would prefer the S5. Colors are better, ibis is better, according to dxomark they are damn near tied for dynamic range and it has all the features that I need for narrative filmmaking. I don't use autofocus that much. For vlogging, that is if I wanted to buy a $4000 camera to vlog with, I would choose the Sony. My biggest issue with Panasonic however, is not the autofocus but lens cost.
Nice review, love the S5. I think S1H has equal perfomance as A7S3 on ISOs, if youtube tests are true. Good performance at High ISO,; Panasonic still has more noise(but good looking) and sony is more soft.
Perfect review!! Just what I was looking for.. Wondering had you positioned both the cameras at an angle you could have possibly managed a similar angle shots on both cameras.. now one is straight and the other to the side.. would’ve been even more awesome if both were at similar angles simulating a mirror image kinda experience (although it won’t be mirrored image) 😌 anyway, really cool you thought of this idea for a review
About the colors: I mean, it is a question of grading. They are so differently graded. Even the shirt he said he matched is much more blue on the Panasonic and Sony has much more yellow in the grade, which of course will let the blues look green.... It's an easy fix and an unfair comparison. If we talk about "sony colors" or Pany colors" we should at least acknowledge that with either camera you can match the other camera colors, if you know how. Autofocus is a different thing though :)
Three years later the S5 is $1300USD while the A7S III is $3500USD. Guess which I purchased to upgrade from my A7R II? Up to now I only used Canon EF and FD mount lenses. But I did order the Panasonic 70-200mm f4 ($1300USD) to go along with the S5 as it's my most used lens on the Sony (Canon 70-210mm f4 FD.) Basically, I'm moving from manual focus to autofocus for stills. I don't shoot video. New S5 with free 50mm f1.8 plus 70-200mm for much less than a A7S III. Even if you buy the new S5 II it's still $200 less including the 70-200mm lens. Again, I don't shoot video. So why am I watching a video comparison? Because he's entertaining!
Oh my gosh... Okay well I was debating whether to jump to the A7S3.. I thought noo the S5 is a lot cheaper but the A7S3 will be in a different league.. but from this omg I'm buying the S5.... Especially when it has a sale and you can get it for £1500 with the kit lens!.. I could barely tell the difference.. which is quite shocking.. like at the start literally couldn't tell any difference whatsoever!.
Panni Boy actually makes the best ghost voice recorder for EVP / ITC Research and Ghosthunting. It is rare, old, discontinued, and $2,000... but it is the best. Panasonic RR-DR60. Retailed for $20 when it came out.
Except it was purely opinion. S5 colours and dang kit lens... S5 won in every category except AF... Plus it's been updated for 5k external BRAW magic....

the video I have been waiting for finally I can now decide to purchase the gh5
GH5 YES Great..THO Unforutuatlly FAILED AF :/ For That I Will Never Own One,
i See it This Way..if Your Gonna Spend Whats Needed to Buy a GH5 & Have To Settle For 2 Downsides
FAILED AF & ALSO IT Was Never Full Frame To Start With, Spend a Few EXTRA Dollars & Get Buy Serious =FF :-)
@@chevypowertogo-9070 I don't mind shooting manual nor do I mind not having full frame
It's coming actually. But you're right, lens lineup sucks lol
(with a $2,000 less price tag)
that slow mo part deserves a like and a subs.
I was laughing so hard you probably heard me all the way in Canada from Washington DC when your math teacher followed you
As someone who shot Panasonic from 2013 to 2020, man, if the DFD had been as good as S5 even two years ago, I probably wouldn't have switched to Canon this year.
Dont worry its still not good enough for video. When they switch to dpaf they'll be very competitive.
Incredible video thank you
Also you should ask Camera Canada for a Sigma 20mm Tony 1.4 for the S5
Why does he call it t 1.4.its different to fstops
@@voltvisuals He doesn't call them t, he calls them Tony, a vital difference!
@@Samhertzog "Toneh" (an amalgam of "Tony" and "bokeh").
The guys managing the security cameras from the School certainly had their moment of entertainment.
I died at that slow motion math teacher chase scene 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Let's be real ,Sony's dynamic range and low light performance are way better.
for double the price, not worth it in my book
That's the camera industry .A double price tag doesn't mean a two times better performance. GFX100 medium format is literally 10K ,but ain't 3 times better than A7RIV .Small vital differences make the huge price gap.
@@alexanderharden7307 The Sony smoked the Panasonic
@keiferz Basically every camera in video with af ,different league ,but anyone can live with the S5 or X-T4 and make decent videos.
Pany colors but OMG the Sony low-light performance!
Much faster lens too....
Most comprehensive comparison video evah!
that beat when the math teacher is chasing you is dope :D
Now that Lumix has these great 1.8 lenses, it's the clear choice at half the cost and twice the resolution.
@@clearlyconfused9194 You missed Camera Conspiracies video about Sigma?
So thanks to this video comparison, i just bought S5, with 20 to 60 as a kit and a 50mm f1.8 all for £1,999. Not cheap but half the price of A7s3.
In all honesty the Pany for the win in terms of value! I mean it's giving you so much for the price and you just can't beat Pany for overall value as a Hybrid System. Sony is obviously superior but you pay for it.
I had Pannyboy on pre-order but returned it to whence it came. G9 for me until Pannyboy can play AF with the big boys.
in dynamic range s5 win..
sony's highlight over expose
I appreciate how you faded the bunny out then in as it went behind the tree
The S5 AF definitely seems to be the best Panasonic AF so far. Still not as fast and accurate as the Sony, but for *most* situations it should be adequate. The Sony low-light ability is just amazing.
Its not adequate for video, its a great hybrid camera with good autofocus for stills and manual for video
I just came for the comedic chase scenes and background music tracks! As usual they were marvelous :)
The Sony low light performance is unmatched. The Panasonic looks a bit better when lit properly. To be honest the Panasonic AF is a bit better than I expected - but I have been using a GH5 so I have been conditioned with poor AF.
good comparison with plenty of side by side samples thx
Love my gh5👍
GH5 YES Great..THO Unforutuatlly FAILED AF :/ For That I Will Never Own One,
Of the different brands, I'd say Panasonic has a lifeless kind of drab energy that is imparted to the subject, Sony makes subjects looks super crisp and it feels really expensive/commercial, Canon feels relaxed and happy and makes subjects look healthy and lively.
@@Not_Yuto_Horigome Yes it’s true that it’s much more difficult to write out logical proofs and cite research papers etc. that would also include clarifying the definitions of all the words I’ve used to make sure we’re on the same page and so on
"A couple of coins more." Hmmmmm. A couple of STACKS.
*gets beat down and arrested * for looking like he stole cameras from the A/V club.
the sony had the orange panny skjn color this time! you managed it!😁😁 the sony wins AF, loses very slightly stabilization, panny wins price. so... dunnonow
'Let's go into the bathroom, to do a low light scenario...' I'm gonna try this line at the nightclub
Please compare the a7c with kit lens with the S5. Since they are both about the same price.
Finally got the right one what I want thankyou for ur time.
I wonder if Panny would ever consider a lidar based AF system. Would that even work on a mirrorless?
Best autofocus tests ever. Set up your cameras, do the tests as a cardio warmup before the strength training, and watch the footage afterwards. You may learn nothing but it's way more fun.
The low light performance of these cameras is just amazing.
Sony A7S iii: No one is talking about the 4+2 Additional Focus Area Tracking modes
that appear in the Menu when the camera is in M Stills Mode. Its
mentioned in the Sony Guide at the bottom of "Selecting the focus area
(Focus Area)", but does not appear in video mode. BTW pressing the red
button in stills mode will record video, but no tracking.
i'm very happy with my lumix s5 , thanks for the video my brother
Those autofocus ninja movements need to be adopted by all TH-camrs. That's definitely the proper way to test your camera's autofocus.
You can’t unsee it but the sony looks red
Yea SONY Makes a Face Like One Dem RED ASS BABOONS L😎L

I love how you conclude the exact opposite of most of what you have said recently.
Bro I am your fan, please give me your opinion plsss. Choosing between Canon eos R, fujifilm x-t4, olympus, pan gh5s - for vlog/studio setup/studio photo/smm content
Your opinion is very very important, you know everything about em) I thinking more towards full-frame...and + autofocus - but understand that R already too old for 2020. Fuji - scared about aps-c, olympus, pan - scared at all))
Thank you in advance.
If you have to pick between a7c or s5 for vlogging which one would you pick?
s5
This is so pleasantly trippy 😁😍
Hey sir, In that video s5 with 2.0 firmvare update or older?
I
Did you still have S5.?
great video! thanks for it!
On the A7SIII, the dual gain kicks in at 1600 ISO in the Standard profile.
omg this man is actually an actor
Bud you're hilarious, hello from a Canadian based in Australia!
This was entertaining! I will definitely be subscribing. 📸 #GreatVideo
Welcome back to Panasonic we miss you
Great video today man
Three years later the S5 is $1300USD while the A7S III is $3500USD.
The panasonic has superior highlight rolloff
Panni Boy actually makes the best ghost voice recorder for EVP / ITC Research and Ghosthunting. It is rare, old, discontinued, and $2,000... but it is the best. Panasonic RR-DR60. Retailed for $20 when it came out.
"Sony A7S III wins almost in any category" - except that about double a price compared to S5
Except it was purely opinion. S5 colours and dang kit lens... S5 won in every category except AF... Plus it's been updated for 5k external BRAW magic....
People in that area must be like 'CALL AN AMBULANCE! THERE'S A MENTAL ON THE LOOSE'
The most interesting Comparison of S5 man! Love it.
