Ted is one tuber I would love to meet, he seems like such a nice guy and he is focused on the image NOT the camera
100 % - Tony Toenails is all about KIT (and its always NOT Canon, Pana, Nikon or Fuji)
Ted is not much of a photographer.
Great historian.
Great job guys! It was great getting you three together for this awesome comparison! Keep up the good work!
I am so glad someone made this head to head. I honestly think you can make magic happen with either of these cameras. 👍🏾
Even Red can take a picture with a Sony.
To be fair, setting them up properly for your use case is more importwnt these days as they both have what it takes for great images.
I prefer the Canon grip, the sony top dials make more sense, the canon direct controls make more sense, the canon lenses are exceptional, didnt really get to test too many sonys but am pretty sure they are good.
For me the 15-35 and 70-200 plis 35 1.8 fit in my messenger bag and dont whey too much so i prefer the Canon but depending on what you shoot there are arguments for both
Chris and Jordan are as funny as they are informative. These videos are a joy to watch.
Great having Ted! More please!
Love this friendly collaboration. More of this, please!
That was just silly good fun. There are trade-offs of one camera system vs. another for sure, but it really gets down to personal choice; they'll all produce fantastic results in skilled hands.
That was a great video, very nicely done, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
This was so enjoyable to watch. Funny and informative. Good job guys!
I haven’t jumped to the full frame mirrorless cameras yet but just watching this comparison, it’s exciting seeing how far cameras have come compared to the first mirrorless cameras.
I mean you'd hope that technology would advance far from the first modern mirrorless camera in 1954, the Leica M3.
/s
depending on what you shoot, you may be disappointed if and when you do. Sold all of my Olympus gear and went sony. Hated it. Hated just about everything about it. Traded the body only to a friend for 2 Olympus bodies and 5 lenses.
nikon z8
This was great fun.
Good work you 3 ❤️❤️❤️
As far as video, the reason I chose the a7iv instead of the canon is because for vlogging with wide angle there’s no camera wobble unlike the canons which is terrible wide angle lens wobble during video. Also with active stabilization, the Sony is actually really good and you can even do a stabilization in post with catalyst. Also sony has a decent more amount more of dynamic range with S-Log3 and also a sharper video. Yes there is rolling shutter but really unless you’re using a 50mm+ and zooming fast side to side, it’s not as bad a people make it out to be. I’ve used an 85mm 1.8 and done pans left to right and as long as it’s not super fast it looks fine. They also have software to correct rolling shutter in post. And again the lens lineup is way bigger with cheaper options on Sonys. I have a 20mm f1.8 for vlogging and with active stabilization it’s great and also super sharp 4k. I think Sony wins video personally. Also especially with all the video formats a7iv has and canon r6 ii doesn’t have clog2 which is their best dynamic range pp, is pretty dumb. And you ONLY get 10bit color in Log profile with canon.
Brilliant episode!! Great to have Ted onboard for this one!
Great fun watching you two!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This was a really cute crossover. For whatever downsides being a TH-cam camera reviewer brings, you folks sure seem to have make some rad friends along the way!
This episode is an INSTANT classic!!
Would love to see Ted, Chris and Jordan (maybe with a 4th photography TH-camr) do a Top Gear style destination challenge series, a photography version of what Gears and Gasoline do occasionally. Have KEH, MPB, or so,EG other used camera shop offer up a budget for different equipment of their choice and a variety of goals/challenges. New York with street, architecture, and tourism challenges or national parks with landscape and wildlife challenges. The have the right sense of humor, knowledge and rapport to keep it entertaining.
Awesome idea.
the fourth guy obviously has to be Kai :-D.
Great video. Love these collabs
Fun video! I enjoyed the quick info on both camera models.
Great video guys, nice to see Chris and Jordan hanging with Ted!
Love to see my favourites together. Hope Stampede was enjoyed by all!
Such a fun an informative video. Waving from The Bahamas 🇧🇸
When are you all coming this way? 😁😁😁
I really enjoyed this video! I am so glad Ted was invited, he's amazing, been following him for a few years now; and you guys made it so much fun! Thank you guys, Chris, Jordan and Ted, you rock! 🤟🏼😎
Good comparo video; nice to see Ted in Calgary.
I was facing exactly this choice a couple months ago. I think the R6 II is a better overall camera but I went with the A7 IV mostly for the huge choice of lenses, the resolution bump is nice too as I find I am cropping photos a lot. Both are great cameras and I am very happy with my Sony. Had I have had lenses from either system previously that would have been enough to sway me over. Panasonic S5 II is also another solid choice that should not be overlooked, I wish I had that gimbal like IBS for video.
True, went the same route. Btw the A7 IV stabilization is absolutely usable and is better than my S5s and the S5 II's if your lense is around 20 to 24 mm. Bad EVF and unusable video AF of the S5 made me buy the A7 IV, but I stayed for the lenses.
I bought the R6 II. However, I already regret it. Because I really wanted to use a Sigma 105mm f/1.4 and it is only available for Sony without using an adapter. At the moment I only have the RF 50mm f/1.8 and I don't intend to invest in any other Canon lens. I will stick to using the R6 II + RF 50mm f/1.8 as a point and shoot. For this use it is perfect. I put it on automatic (green) and just press the button. The Canon mecenary will never see my money again!
@@apocryphal_man Yes, with some time with the camera the IBIS is pretty good with the Sony A7iv, plus there is the option of using the gyro data and Catalyst software to stabilize, there are ways to get smooth video. Sony prioritizes not having wiggly corners like Panasonic or Canon at the expense of jerky reframing.
@@michelecintramika8482 eventually Canon will have more RF lenses but I love my Sony 14mm F1.8 and Sigma 60-600mm lenses, Canon had nothing to compete with those yet. The only other camera mount close is L-mount for lens selection, for native lenses, adapting older lenses is a whole different ball game.
@@grantmckee7633 Canon will NEVER make a 105mm f/1.4 nor a wide angle f/1.4. And if it did, it would cost three times as much. I've always wanted a point-and-shoot camera, and the R6II + RF 50mm f/1.8 is fine for this use.
Shooting Canon r6 ii handheld at 1/25 with EF 70-200 at 200mm from a previous century without IS and getting tack sharp images in focus. Canons camera IS rocks! Not to mention the more natural skin colors.
Very cool collaboration! I watch you both but in one video to see you guys it is awesome!!!
Great videos as always. Would love to see a Hollyland Lark Max vs DJI Mic 2 comparison from you guys. Keep up the good work and way to go on starting Petapixel!
100% sticking with Canon and getting the R6 ii. Sports and action + the lenses I already have, make it a no brainer.
So much food for thought... I'm a happy Canon DSLR guy (mainly 7D2 and 1DX3), and my lenses are all Canon EF or EF-S, save for an old Tokina 19-35, and a soon-to-come Sigma 100-600C. I hadn't really considered moving to mirrorless, but I find myself getting more and more tempted to add the R62 to my arsenal.
Really like that format head to head with some different blookd. Good Job
Love to see you big YT'ers collaborating, makes great videos. Maybe get Nikon Rikki from over here in the UK.
Excellent to see you Chris and Jordan tram up with a "competitor" in such videos.
Great idea.
And as always, great end result: watching your videos is always very pleasant 😊
Really fun episode, enjoyed the banter a great deal while getting all the info I wanted. I'm probably going jump ship from Panasonic to either Canon or Sony. Have been looking at the R7 vs the new a6700 and in the end it looks like the lens options for Sony is going to be what seals the deal for me. I'm not pleased with the image stabe in the Sony but the autofocus in video and video options are great as I do more video than photos. On that note, what are your thoughts on the Tamron 150-500 vs Sigma 150-600 specifically for wildlife video?
Fun video! Love seeing Ted in this video!
Really enjoyable video. I think when it comes to stills, all brands have something to offer. It just depends on your use case.
The amount of dust spots during that video clip is my only beef with Sony nowadays. 10:37 there. Even with a shutter down at power down that still happens is beyond me.
This is a very beneficial video , thanks 🙏🏻
love these guys with their unique approach!
Nice coverage. In the end the "win" part more often than not, just means one being slightly better than the other - BOTH being exceptional in the first place.
“He can still go f*** himself” made me spit up my cereal.
Two of my favorite channels in one, how lucky!
This was fun. More !
Is the clip at 10:39 the a7IV and at 10:43 the R6 MkII? If I am having trouble telling the difference maybe rolling shutter in video isn’t too big of a difference 😳
Thanks so much for sharing another wonderful video like always, awesome video 👍👌🤗
Great video. Great photographers. Excellent hardware. So much fun!
Hi there guys! I would like to know witch is better in low light!? I heard that a7IV is over heating in 4k!? What about Canon, the decision to get one of this is very difficulty, I always worked with Canon, and a few times with Sony(the eye tracking is amazing)... Could you please help me! TY
It would be fun if Jordan entered the competition with his Panasonic and in the end realised that he was supposed to be taking stills
The hosts of my two favorite photographic channels cross-over! What a day!
Both awesome
Great job guys, very entertaining video. 👍🏻 Came across this cause I'm finally thinking of upgrading from my 5DIII. Switching to Sony isn't really a consideration since I'm already heavily invested in Canon lenses (even if they all are EF and not RF) but it was nice to see both cameras putting out quality images.
Haha Good one.
I went with Canon R6ii, upgraded from 5d mkiii, since I already have 5 ef lenses that work great and bunch of batteries and 5 flashes. Amazing auto focus, video quality, colours and ibis
this was a fun video. laughed so hard that you went with the 600mm f11 budget lens. it's such a fun lens but not a lens where you want great quality. what I love about the 600 and 800 is it lets someone like me that wants to dabble into extreme telephoto without spending much money. And they're super light.
This video was okay if you like excellent information, sharp still photography, and very good summaries of each camera body's capabilities. What we should have seen was autonomic data - perhaps an electroencephalogram of Chris and Ted, nerve response readout combined with respiration metrics. What good are camera bodies if you're not firing on all billions of your neurons? Nicely done and a joy to watch, thank you.
Absolutely brilliant
Since I am a Canon (DSLR) user, with a substantial investment in Canon L lenses, it's going to be the R6Mk2 for me, with an adapter.
I can't afford either new Sony glass or new Canon R glass (plus I know Canon Menus so well. Ease of use is important).
Basically all cameras are good enough now (they have been for still images for almost 10 years). The Canon R6 video capabilities may have clinched the deal for me to move to mirrorless.
I have a Canon M50 for video and, despite many limitations, the focus tracking ability plus articulating screen, makes it so easy to shoot video. The R6mk2 seems like several iterations better.
I guess I'll be trading cameras soon.
What camera bag use Chris?
Oooh, what a channel, what a find👍👍👍👍Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I was choosing between Canon r6m2 and Sony A7m4, I will take the sony.... Please suggest the top portrait lens (budget is unlimited) with the most gorgeous blurred background. And the second lens for shooting 4k travel video with the maximum possible quality and the minimum possible weight, that would for a day of walking around new cities shoulder and back said thank you)))
Would love to have seen a comparison with the Sony A7RV
Awesome guys!!!
I am currently facing this exact choice and I don't think I can go wrong here. For what I currently value and prefer, I'll go with the R6 II. In a not so different timeline, I bought the A7 IV.
Love how tight the edit is on this video. Packed with good info and fun.
Great job on this video. It sort of proves that there is room for something better ASAP!
As an A7C user, you cannot understate how cheap Sony's buttons feel compared to the others. The dials are nicer though. I'm not so sure why the A7IV's mode dial is so tall though. Canon's more WYSIWYG EVF helps you dial in highlights MUCH better than Sony's. Try shooting JPG's and they both lose to Nikon.
IF Nikon ever makes an Expeed8, 33mp, articulating screen, no-AA filter, Z6III... that will be my choice. Even if it is a DX D50II/D70. The A7IV can be laggy and nobody wants to deal with CFE-A cards when they already own CFE-B's. The dual slot design is pretty nice though.
I often experienced brownish tints to skies and high ISO indoor photos with the Sony. Shifts that are NOT easy to correct in post. If you have color acuity, once you see this tint, you can't not see it in A7IV and A1 images.
I still think the Z6II should have been included in this. If just to remind Nikon of where they stand. ;)
Ted is awesome! Nice to see him as a guest on your show. Thanks to both Chris and Ted for not speculating on third party lenses, and to Jordan for the comic relief. Ted was right--what "might" happen doesn't cut it. I hope Canon is listening. Cheers.
Great fun to look 👍
Thanks 🙏 great Video!!
Great chemistry between the two! I would love to see more from them. Also I believe that the canon is a more mature choice, despite the mp count.
Sweet colab 🤠
This was such a fun video, seeing Ted in a very different setting and video style 🤣 Took me a while to get used to because Ted had to speak in a much higher pitch compared to in his studio
I prefer A7IV overall.. owned both.. but Canon feels WAAAAY better in-hand.
I never imagined Sony winning Canon over the lens selection category 6 or 7 years ago. As long as Canon doesn't open up their mount, most photographers would still benefit greatly by owning a Sony camera even though their primary cameras are Canon. There are lenses such as the Tamron 35-150mm f/2-2.8, 50-400mm f/4.5-6.3, and Sigma 14mm f/1.4, which are very versatile and almost unreplaceable once you are used to them.
theres EF lenses and they work great. canon RF has 28-70 f2 that isnt available in the sony.
If I didn't already own so many Canon lenses, I might have considered Sony or Fuji, but given how much money I have in Canon glass, I bought a R6 Mk II. I'm much happier with this camera than I ever was with my 5D Mk IV! It does suck that Canon doesn't want to open up the lens mount to 3rd party lens makers. It feels silly that I'm using a 45mm f/1.8 Tamron on a EF to RF adapter with my R6 Mk II.
Love your videos - R6II any day for me!
Great video!
Trifecta of reviewers, great post!
The real winner here is the end user, i'm really glad sony lit a fire under canons behind. Before when they didn't have competition in the early cybershot days canon was not "evolving" as fast and just cashing in on their past merits and name brand. Here's to competitions and not monopolies.
Great video and love Ted Forbes. You should do A7iV, R6 II, S5II and Z6II showdown... king of the ring (mid-range) style!
Both are great cameras, what matters most is the lens, not how many but the quality of the glass.
2 of my favorite guys in one video. What??? Fun contest.
FANTASIC VIDEO!!!!! THANKS FOR SHARING!!!! 👏👏👏👏👏
good lively stuff guys, well done
I think canon team needs to think about their lens offerings. A lot of people are opting Sony just because of that. Also, without third party lenses Canon will have a big trouble in becoming the leader it used to be.
True
Even though I'm a Nikon user I quite enjoyed this.Great street photography by both of them.👍
Me too
I am waiting for the day Tamron or Sigma comes to RF mounts with those 1.4 primes and F2.8 zooms.
Really funny one, in a nice way! Love Ted and Chris/Jordan. I had Olympus, and found it to risky to spend money on more glass. Went with Sony because of all the different lenses, like Tamrons. Also I had an NEX 5 some years ago, which I loved because of it's size and ableness. Now have the A74, which I love.
Next review together: How to choose felt hats and flipflops.
Thanks for making me snort my coffee several times. That was hilarious.
Once you get a taste of 30+MPs it's hard to go back to 24. That + lenses = Sony for me
Yup. Went from a 30 MP 5D MKIV to a 20 MP R6 and the MPs are missed. People always say “no one prints that big”, but it’s more about your ability to crop in which is super useful. Especially for events/weddings.
I love Canon's lens strategy: dark aperture or top-of-the-line image quality with the price up to the sky. That makes me zero consideration of purchasing them.
😂😂😂
@@jayclas4023
You mean Sony?
5K for a camera with 0 firmware updates and $3k for the same lens canon offer for a better price and quality...
Theres EF lenses and they work great.
Some of them may have darker aperture but the IQ is great and they are a lot cheaper than the L glass.
@@DjimmyTrovy Try to watch the review of 24-50mm lens and you'll see how the "good" optical quality is.
Love you both!
I'd go with Jordens Cam
I've owned Nikon, Canon & Sony which I've always got great results. I'm in the camp that says it is the person who learns their system and utilizes that knowledge to obtain the results they desire. Well done video....nice job guys!
You guys are both right. The clear winner is the Fujifilm X-H2S.
Chris really isn’t wrong calling Calgary the texas of the north.
Calgary stampede, anybody?
Texan here in Fort Worth, I love this. REPRESENT!!! 😂
Please make the xs20 vs a6700 comparison video!!
So entertaining - glad you have landed on your feet
This was fun 😊
The MKIII thumbnail homage was *chefs kiss*
Question is, which one would Jordan pick (or adds a third contender?)
Need to do a video on last gen used examples. I would never buy a camera new, or a lens for that matter. The amount of depreciation, outside of Fuji that seems to cost more used than sold out MSRP, that gear goes through leads to massive savings. Even something like an E-M5 Mark II Olympus that's fairly old at this point is still a great pickup for people of all ranges of skill. Until last year the X-T3 was an amazing buy as well, they were getting down to 500's almost with KEH's "bargain" label (that in my experience is the same as most people's "Very good", I always hunt for bargain grade, got me an E-M1 Mark III for 550 USD all in that works like new just with some paint worn off where the strap hoops rubbed the body). The G9 is a great purchase with some being as low as l like 540 on MAP Camera's eBay shop (many purchases from them, faster shipping from around the world for free than 20 dollar 1 state away, and always high quality).
I point out MFT because there are a lot of great lenses for affordable prices used that you can't match outside of something like the Sigmas for Pentax K mount. The 17, 25, 45, and 75 f/1.8 Olympus lenses are great (34, 50, 90, and 150 FF equiv) just like the 12-40 f/2.8 (one of the hardest for me to replace unless I want to pay 3 times the price for a roughly 24-75 ff option). A ton of people could really benefit from the lower prices and great quality that would be way more than enough for them for the foreseeable future. Will they beat the cameras here? Definitely not, but does that really matter for a large amount of people in the real world? Nope, my E-M5 Mark II I take to all my jobs as a side camera with the Olympus 20mm f/1.4 lens gets just as many keepers as my K-1 Mark II that's a fantastic camera.
