I have the R6ii, along with R3s, and both are very espandable in configurations. Best AF is to back focus with the AF-ON button set to Metering - AF Start, then set AF Menu #1 Whole area tracking Servo AF to ON. Avoid using AF tracking to the nearest object as the target focus will ALWAYS get lost to another object. Be sure to set the shutter button to Metering Start without AF or AF will change on the button press.
As an owner of this camera, love the review! Love seeing Canon content on your channel, even though I mainly watch for the finished product and pov street, still great to see some variety. Been hearing lots of wonderful things about the R8, would love to see a video on that camera and maybe even some more 'L' series lenses!
The reason the R6 Mark II was slightly noisier at ISO 4000 was because it is designed to be cleanest at whole stops: 100,200,400,800,1600,3200,6400, 12800 , 25600. So ISO 6400 is actually cleaner than 4000 and would beat both the A1 and A7RV significantly.
As someone who owned the A1, and currently owns the a7R V and the R6ii. The Sony will definitely smoke the R6 at higher ISOs. The grain is much more noticeable on the canon than Sony. But they still are pretty close together.

@@lewcehjitl3282maoooooooooo i need yall advice on the best quality vlogging canon camera? I need the quality to look amazing. So which canon should i get?
4:40 I’ve been testing out the Sony A7IV for the past 7 months and 90% of the time I use the EVF. The fully articulating screen on Sony is not great vs my Canon R5. The ergonomics, ease of use, and menus is why I think I will not be switching to Sony. I’d love to see what you can do with the Canon EOS R3. Great review!
I switched from Canon to Sony when they came out with the A7, one of - if not the first - full frame mirrorless camera but the truth is the ergonomics are just not comfortable for me, I'd have pain when using it for extended period of time. The menus were also god awful. Color rendition was also not to my taste, so I'm back to Canon. The cameras and lenses are bigger than Sony's but at this point it doesn't make that much difference. If you want compact an interchangeable lens full frame system isn't what you want.
it would be interesting to see you try the R6 or the R8 with some RF lenses, like a mix of L series and less expensive ones. Also the location is crazy damn
Just wish Canon improve their dynamic range. I'm not sure if it's the sensor, but wouldn't it be cool if Canon decide to put their DGO technology inside a mainstream mirrorless camera? But yeah that will definitely cannibilize their Cinema line sales, but I just want something decent that is full frame that is also afforable. Sth like the FX3 but Canon equivalent with DGO perhaps.
Totally agree. I actually get more Dynamic Range on my 5 yr old Fujifilm X-T3 in jpeg mode!!! Using DR200 and Highlights -2 or DRP mode set to weak (gives even greater range - for extreme situations). Canon gets around the DR issue, by metering to protect the highlights, making darker pictures - look dullish SOOC. I just edit lift the shadows with masks - but this adds lots more time in post edits. But the Canon AF and tracking and sharpness/clarity is amazing, this makes up for it.
Actually, the R6 II beats most of the Sonys when it comes to dynamic range. If you are talking about video, that's something different entirely and is due to the Clog3 profile. It's still more than good enough for almost anything. James Reader compared the S5II, A7IV and R6 II and did some video testing in their best log formats at sunrise with some high dynamic range going on and once graded, there was almost no real world difference.
I have both the R6 Mark II and the Sony a7cII and love them both. The latter was the latest purchase mainly because it's a great EDC and travel camera: super compact and also excellent quality, AF etc. Traveling with my bit EF lenses for my Canon started to get tiresome but I still love shooting with it for events.
Sony A7R5 owner, I also do the 1 finger test to hold the camera, but I use a wrist strap. I am a heavy EVF user instead of the screen, even though the EVF is a screen.
Your focus probs seem like "some" user error. You can set three buttons at the top top right where the af-on button is. Eye focus and small spot focus on two button then what ever you like on the third. That way when it hunts just use spot to require what you're focusing on. There are many how to videos on three button focus methods.
With camera gear everything is relative to what you’ve used before and I upgraded to an R6MkII from a circa 2008 15MP Canon 50D and liked it so much I bought a second R6mkII body so I can carry both my RF100-500mm and RF 800mm f/11 when shooting stills or equip the second body with the EF-RF VND converting and use it with my EF-S 10-22, 24-70 f/2.8 or 70-200mm f/2.8 for shooting video.
I use both a Sony and a canon. I don’t think I have ever heard anyone say they prefer the feel or body grip of a Sony over a canon. I think that those people do exist, but I think in that department canon is much preferred

Hi Pierre, It's nice to see how different camera brands work, some advantages and some disadvantages in all brands. I personally use the viewfinder, I feel more comfortable. I like the White Wall Fine Art Paper, it looks like great quality, and the Paper will last a long, long, time. The Stabilization in the Canon R6 II, worked real well. Especially hand holding, that waterfall picture was real nice with the ice, looked fluffy. Invest in your skills, well said Pierre, so true. Thanks for sharing this video..

The R6 Mark II is better in most areas aside from resolution. Though the 24 MP sensor on the R6 II seems to be sharper than the one on the A7IV in my test. @@Pierretlambert yes, the size & shape of the auto focus box in AI Servo modes, as well as its position can all be adjusted. I'm new to Canon (Sony / Leica) but it's been one of the best features
If it’s anything like the R6 mk I, the tracking box (even at the smallest setting) will expand to fill subjects or hunt if an animal, eye, face, or vehicle is not detected. Infuriating, in my opinion, for snapshot situations where having to move the focus point manually may result in a missed photo.
Yeah, you can, but compared to Sony there's soooo many more options which is annoying but also helpful. Maybe im Lind, but I wish there was a flexible spot and eye tracking mode on canon like there is on Sony.
Man, the focus box is bigger in a distance that doesn't matter. At 10 meters, it doesn't matter if the point focus is on the left or right tire. When the subject starts to approach, the machine solves the "problem".
Went from Sony to Canon and didn't like the experience one bit. Three things made it a deal breaker. First Canon customization is dismal. I always have buttons on Sony to quickly switch the Subject Detection, Min SS for Auto ISO, and Electronic/Mechanical shutter. Those are such common functions, it's annoying Canon makes you to do menu diving. Second deal breaker was the articulating screen. Unless you shooting selfies or your camera on tripod, articulating screen is hugely annoying, especially when you shoot from a low position and the screen is on the way of your left hand holding the lens. I'm not buying any other camera with articulating screen, it's a faulty design from my perspective. And the third disappointment was the Canon raw files in Lightroom. Dynamic range was not good, Canon tends to crush shadows, despite its metering tendency to overexpose and wipe out the highlights, and it's difficult to recover. Worse I hated the colors. Camera tends to produce very warm pictures, with lots of magenta. Greens are all wrong. Blue sky is not a nice saturated blue, more often washed out blueish magenta. And perhaps due to the sensor technology and CFA, some intense blues show significant color shift that is impossible to fix. I was shooting violets and the flowers turned purple. Got rid of Canon, tried Nikon and love almost everything about Z series other than some AF quirks.

What I’m asking is, is this good for the price and will it last me long term? What is your professional opinion?
and if not, what camera would you recommend? This price is already hefty as is so my price range is no more than $3000, no more than the price of this current camera to be honest
@@Pierretlambert I’m trying to get into cinematography as well photography so I figured this would be the perfect mix, but more specifically I’m aiming towards directing/producing/writing as my career path. @@truthseeker6804 Exactly. I got the R6 II over the A7IV because it's better in most areas. And I also got EF lenses for cheaper than the 3rd party Sony lenses and they work 110% adapted on RF. Hoping I can catch you since this video is fresh out the oven! Would this be a good starter camera? I’ve been doing filmmaking for a while, it’s where my career is headed. I’m already proficient in premiere pro and davinci resolve and all that, but for footage I’ve been using my iPhone 14 Pro and while the cameras are great, I think it’s time to fully invest in my future with a good camera. What I’m asking is, is this good for the price and will it last me long term? What is your professional opinion?
and if not, what camera would you recommend? This price is already hefty as is so my price range is no more than $3000, no more than the price of this current camera to be honest
Hard to say depending on what you’ll be shooting. But yes this will last for a while and would cover all my needs personally.
@@Pierretlambert I’m trying to get into cinematography as well photography so I figured this would be the perfect mix, but more specifically I’m aiming towards directing/producing/writing as my career path. Right now I would like to just focus on getting good with a good camera so I can better story-tell and execute my ideas. A lot of what I do currently is creative and usually comedic, but I’d like to dip my toes into other genres as well. I have no set in stone plans for a short film, but with all this in mind, do you think this would cover my needs?
Why do Canon videos wobble, even though they already have the ibis feature?
My 5D3 with ML is still the best Canon camera for video 😄😄
Haha yes, my Sony Cameras look old very quickly compared to any Canons I’ve had
Wonderful Content & Love You Brother ❤❤❤
Love From Bangladesh ❤️🇧🇩
what was that skin on the 50mm lens
What should I buy canon R6 ll or Sony A7 lV? Please advise me 😅
depends on your lenses and budget! If you have nothing the A7IV wil allow to buy third party lenses WAY cheaper!
also consider EF lenses, many, and much more affordable
@@truthseeker6804 Exactly. I got the R6 II over the A7IV because it's better in most areas. And I also got EF lenses for cheaper than the 3rd party Sony lenses and they work 110% adapted on RF. That's why Canon doesn't really need third party because unlike Sony and Nikon, their adapted glass don't lose quality or performance at all .
@@77dris... yes, the adapter was made by Canon, for exactly this purpose, use the wide variety of EF lenses that are more affordable.
LOL Pierre i have the same Lopapeysa XD They look great on you ;)😄
I just sold all my canon gears and migrate to Sony and I recommend 100%, unless if you are a photography only.
More Canon review, please!
How is this camera for cinematography?
Where did you get that Sony hot shoe cover?
pretty sure i saw a GDU lens in one of your shots.. how is that ?!
yes it is :D it's fun looking!!
What memory card do you use with Canon R6mk2?
0:28 what lens did you use?
You are very fair , i am going to subscribe to your channel 😊
It's funny to hear people complain about today's camera's.. honestly if you can't take good pictures on any of the mirroless camera's from any of the manufacturers today...then honestly you need to take up a new hobby! Smh 😂🤦
Very well said and let's face it, there are far more gear freaks with cameras out there now than actual photographers. I'm sick of whingers complaining that the camera doesn't do this or doesn't do that and yet they never consider the possibility that it is their own incompetence.
Rant over 😊
😂😂🎉 Again! Camera is just a tool to take photo. Like any other artist picks up a pen and paper. The output is important ni matter what tool ylu are using. Advance camera is an advantage but does not help you create good pictures. All up to the user. 🎉
As a Sony user I wanted to love this camera but absolutely could not stand it. Video on this camera was like shooting with a bowl of jello
what filters do you use ?
Lol one ☝️ Finger test 😂😂
I wish I could use the viewfinder but my glasses get in the way..
these modern cameras are far far better than the ones i used when i started 15 years back, if you cant get a shot with them then get a different hobby
I would say for me viewfinder/display 60/40
Try R3 !! :D
I'm happy like a clam in warm mud, with mine.
And when I see you styling by waving it around at arms length while staring at the screen snapping shots, thinking you are uber cool Joe Photo, well shrug)
r6m2 or a7iv?
Ive shot both, a7iv for 3rd party lenses hands down
yeap unless you have a bunch of Canon lenses already :)
@@Pierretlambert,
Thanks for the video!
Aside from lenses, I think if you’re shooting more stills, R6m2 is ahead.
If you shoot more videos, the A74 has more DR and cleaner.
If you shoot both and want the best of both, A7R5 or R5.
But agree with you that most just think body and not inform consumers about affordable and more choices of lenses and budget. I would add another is entire ecosystem, such as workflow, accessories, audio, and lighting that is required depending on use cases and/or paid projects
@@Pierretlambert
I don't have any lenses right now.
Lens = RF 50mm f1.8 Global Dynamics United
I'm a viewfinder kinda guy. I've been shooting professionally since the mid-80s so.....
im team cannon al the way
Canon is THE BEST !!!! I have R8 + rf 24 1.8 + Lexar x1667 256 :)
So if I switch from Canon to Sony I’ll lose my lenses??? 😂
I still dont know why ppl want to show off on youtube that they switch to Sony 🙄
haha people do?
It goes both ways for anyone that switch between brands, Canon to Sony or vise versa, Sony to Nikon or Nikon to Sony.
@@Pierretlambert yess a LOT… like goodbye canon, hello sony bla bla bla hahaha i mean why? Whats the point?
@@jliang70 nahhh on youtube … the most frequent title is bye canon hi sony… thats it…
I love canon
The love the feel of Canon cameras, the Sony hurts after a while because the edges are to sharp. Canon images and colors always look better to me 😎⚡️🤙
Editing out all the gaps in the audio so you NEVER pause is annoying and stressfully. Won’t listen for that reason
Great ❤

How can you test the capabilities of the camera with such a lens? unprofessional.
