    Hello Dave
    I wrote the comment that inspired this video.
    I listened carefully to your explanation, but I know TH-camrs who publish ads free videos.
    I can mention “Classic Rides” or “The Mighty Garage”, and many others about different topics.
    Personally I don’t understand those creators who decide to invest their time and effort to create their videos and after a few months, and a few thousand subscribers, start complaining about how much time and effort they spend to make their videos.
    The next step is begging for “like, click the notification bell and subscribe” to help the channel and keep it alive. 😂

    skipping an ad is like when you would go make a coffee during a tv show on ITV.

    Morning Dave, long time no speak 😳. Another way subscribers can help the channel is via the “Thanks” button. I think it is like “Buy me a coffee”. It’s something the creator needs to enable in settings. If left to their own devices, TH-cam (Google), can place a ridiculous amount of adverts in a video. When I check “Advert Placement” in YT Studio, there can be about 9 advert breaks, which I delete, then choose how many and where to place them. I usually put one or two in, depending on the length, and place them at a junction, or where we have stopped for a photo, to maintain continuity, and not spoil the ride. As you say, we don’t get a lot of revenue, but it does support the channel, by enabling us to buy better equipment, whether recording or editing. 100% of my revenue, goes back into the channel. It all just makes it easier to continue with our “hobby”. I too enjoy creating, editing and chatting with people from around the world in the comments. That’s our true reward. All the best, Ian.

    That sky towards the end did look a bit ominous, Dave! Adverts are always with us; they're part of modern life. Personally, I mentally switch off when the ads come on and skip those that I can. Easy as! 👍

    You are spot-on. When I initially ran my channel (or at least this, mainly motorbiking channel, I started over 12 years ago, as I have a number of other channels) I spent a lot of money on action cameras, microphones, motorbikes and just fuel. So I ultimately let this channel die down and let the partnership lapse. Like you say, the income is very limited compared to the running costs. It has to be that you have enough time, are doing something that you enjoy, can afford to support and feel is useful to viewers.

    Nice ride, good information, Dave. I love watching yours and others' videos, and I love making videos of my own. TH-cam has its challenges, but there are some terrific folks like yourself that make the thing go for me. I can tolerate the ads. I like your thoughts with respect to Patreon for your channel. All the best to you.

    I think your idea for Patreon is a sound one. I run a Patreon page, not motorcycle or TH-cam related, and I think you are right to have just one tier for those people that are able and want to support your channel. Although I still ride, health issues restrict me to short rides only and, living in boring Bedfordshire, I don't have access to the gorgeous landscapes you so generously share with us so, forgive me, but I regularly sit on your shoulder and admire the view as you potter around those picturesque lanes. Final note, maybe £2 is bit low, it won't even buy you coffee these days, £5 would still be affordable but contribute more to your running costs. Keep up the great work and thank you for sharing with us.

    Good morning Dave, normally I ignore these advers. But there is one thing what makes me grin, I watch your channel and get Make up infos😅, makes me a little bit nervous....the second one is, if you see the same advertisement very, very often, I will cancel that company from my mind. They have too much money. Maybe I am not right, but.... now to make a small ride. That helps me to get away from the work in the garden. Believe it or not, even here in Germany we have sun. Coffee is on my way. Have a nice weekend.

    Hi Dave, it should be obvious to most people that you need to make money to cover the cost of your video/audio/editing software equipment which isn't cheap these days, plus, it takes several hours to edit content which may only run for 15 - 20 minutes on TH-cam. I don't have any problems at all if you manage to make a profit after expenses etc, otherwise what would be the point of being a creator and without creators no TH-cam. Keep doing what you enjoy Dave and I hope you start making easily in excess of what you need to cover your costs.

    You can edit the midroll adverts and delete all or some of them. It is up to the creator how many if any midroll ads show in your video

  • @CalmBiker
    @CalmBiker 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Those non-skippable ads are getting a lot longer nowadays. I've seen them hit over a minute and it's really annoying.
    The biggest problem for me is mid-roll ads. They break up the flow of a video and tend to make me click away. Pre-video and post-video ads don't. You can turn off mid-roll ads.
    Promotions in videos are a great way to make me unsubscribe from channels. I've been approached too and I always say no. Even if unpaid, a free gift naturally makes people favourable to the product.

    I know what you mean about earning a pittance from such things. I wrote a book about a 4,500 km circumnavigation of the Iberian peninsular by motorcycle and self published it on Amazon. It got great reviews from readers, but it earns me just about enough to buy one cup of coffee a month. Still, we do these things for the pleasure of doing them, not for the money 😀😀

    Regarding Patreon, I feel it's a double-edged sword in that for the viewer, if there are a number of channels you regularly watch, your costs even at £2 for each channel will soon mount up. I have about 30 channels spread across my interests, and if all want Patreon, then that's £60 a month on TH-cam, and then if I want to be rid of those increasing annoying adverts then it's a further payment, close to £70. I can't afford this. For the content creator, you are going to have to make videos on a much more regular basis and of such interest to keep your subscribers happy and to attract new subscribers. I do fully appreciate the costs and time involved in running a channel, and my preferred option is to include a "Thanks" or " Buy me a coffee" button. I believe that TH-cam really started as a way for people just to upload short videos for friends and family to access and enjoy, but now it has become a money-making venture rather than someone sharing their hobby. I don't buy into " I bought six new bikes for the channel, so these have to be paid for". Personally I'm not bothered if it's a Jawa 350 from the 1970s or a new Royal Enfield/BMW/Honda/Triumph etc it's the content ie the journey's and locations that are important to me, not fitting shiny brass bits onto my Triumph Bonneville, Classic 350 etc.

    Dave as one of my favourite Chanel’s along with 2 or 3 others adverts have never bothered me, however if you do not skip the skip-able adverts they go on for ever 😊 Difficult now I realise you are losing revenue perhaps the best way forward is the chance to send money at the viewers discretion, is this a possibility ? Love your content on the best bike in the world, although mine is better being the Halcyon Green version 😊

    Hi There
    Surely what you are doing is produce a weekly programme and if you look at any bbc or itv programme they make a limited number a year. I imagine this is because of budget. What I am getting at is that you are trying to produce 50 weekly editions, which no commercial broadcaster does as they dont have the budget. When you make a video that budget is your income so there will be a limit to production values etc unless you get revenue to mitigate that cost. Itv always had adverts because of this. So don't feel embarrassed because you are trying to achieve what commercial broadcasting wont.
    Btw love the channel. Keep up the good work.

  • @martinowl
    @martinowl 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    If you are able to make a bob or two from your vids, then good for you. I also don’t have a problem with product reviews of products the channel actually wear / use. ( If I have no interest in the product , I simply don’t watch, as opposed to other commenters who moan. Keep on with the great stuff you do.

    I'm completely baffled now and looking for an explanation. I don't see any adverts at all, I am subscribed but still see a little red 'Subscribe' marker in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. I have never paid for any Premium type viewing but I do not see any adverts on any You Tube Channels at all. I see You Tubers saying buy this tent or buy this kit/Bike/camera etc: but I don't get adverts as such...?

    Gonna miss you in December at the LSTE 😜
    As far as Patreon goes, people who pay for this do so for exclusive content; I think its admirable that you want to give everyone the same experience, but perhaps offering Patreons access to your content earlier than standard subscribers would be a way of achieving exclusivity for them whilst still giving anyone who visits your channel the same level of service.
