Working on getting one myself. I have a lot of experience with scorpionfish but never had a stone fish. Honestly the scorpions make me more nervous because they’re just so chaotic.
And this is just the stuff we know about! When you consider that we know more about the surface of planets millions of miles away than we do about life at the bottom of the ocean, there could be some truly terrifying stuff down there!
***** i really dont care about scary thing in the deep, if they stay there and dont bother me. in europe many beaches are safe and there are no animals that could hurt you. on some places are urchins but if you wear swimshoes you are safe.
These are a risk walking around the beach. You'd be unlucky to be stabbed by one while you're swimming. However there are plenty of other good reasons not to swim around Oz like Box Jellyfish, which are far more dangerous and much more painful. Australia is a dodgy (but interesting) place.
I thought to myself "Hmm good thing I dive with booties.....then I had to rewind the part when Dr. Seymour said "Ah it'll go clean through a wetsuit bootie"....
After watching this video, last night I dreamed that I had those hypodermic spines coming out of my finger tips. They would push up out of my skin and squirt venom. One of them corresponded with a cut that I have on my thumb, so I basically thought it really happened when I woke up. So... now I know what that would be like... THANKS DESTIN.
From Wiki: "The pain is said to be so severe that the victims of its sting have been known to demand that the affected limb be amputated." "I got spiked on the finger by a Stonefish in Australia … never mind a bee sting. … Imagine having each knuckle, then the wrist, elbow and shoulder being hit in turn with a sledgehammer over the course of about an hour. Then about an hour later imagine taking a real kicking to both kidneys for about 45 minutes so that you couldn’t stand or straighten up. I was late 20s, pretty fit physically and this was the tiniest of nicks. Got sensation back in my finger after a few days but had recurrent kidney pains periodically for several years afterwards."

Oh yea, we live the life over here. ;D Still, I guess those deadly animals come with having the best accent int he world, seriously I could NEVER wake up and not have a smile on my face that morning after an aussie says "G'Day Mate!" to me! :D
TheLast2nd Actually its just the tourists who get killed, born and raised Australians know how to deal with things like this. Like actually staying inside the jellyfish nets.
There is no way you can't continue this series, too many questions left unanswered. What's this fish' main predator? How is this mechanism of injecting a toxin used in his natural habitat? What is the chemical composition of this venom (active component)? How long time would the average person have after being stung before dying? What's the life span of the fish? How do they reproduce? How many eggs do they lay? Are they vulnerable or an endangered species? Are they edible? Seymour every tried a bite? Could you? How would you prepare it for cooking? Is it related to the putterfish? Can it inflate? ....
Venom in the sea tends to need to be stronger to have a similar effect as on the land. This is due to fish anatomy and how the venom needs to work quickly or powerfully to have an effect. On the land, we get stinging nettles and similar that just cause a rash and make us avoid them. So the little stone fish is just saying "keep away", it's just were a little too sensitive (no ones fault, just a fact of life) to the message. :O
My bro and my cousin (they where 11 resp. 14 at the time) tried to fish up some fishes bare handed when they where at red sea. As they where looking around they found a stone (the stone fish in disguise) which was moving around, they came quickly to a conclusion that it was some sort of a fish so they decided to catch it. They had problems catching it cause it moved quite fast and it camouflaged well, but they managed to catch it in the end, with the help of the stone fish itself. How you might say, well it decided to bit my brothers finger. My cousin and bro took this opportunity to put a plastic pouch (which they brought with them) over the fish and my bros hand while it was still biting my bros finger. Then my bro kept slamming the fish on a ship (which had anchored nearby), till it finally gave up and released it's grip. Happily my brother and cousin swam back to land to show off their awesome catch to all nearby kids. My bro bragged about how he would grill it then eat it, but sadly his wish never came true cause shortly after that came the guard who was wondering all the commotion was all about. When he saw the stone fish in the pouch his face went green. He quickly grabbed the pouch threw it on the ground and took a nearby metal beam and punctured it till it stopped moving. Shortly after the guard informed my brother and cousin that the fish was very venomous, then just went on his way. Realizing this my brother and cousin turned extremely sad cause, they found out it was probably not edible and all their efforts went to nought. They also got informed that it was forbidden to fish at the tourist area and the next time they try to fish up any fishes they were to be kicked out. In the end my brother and cousin went back dispirited, and throughout rest of the trip they never got as excited again.
@73Corbin dunno how it is in the philippines, but me and my acquired cousin went hunting for sea urchins, iirc the ones we got around my uncle's boat were brown, but i may be wrong, i should ask my father. sea urchins are a delicacy, one of my favorite foods from the sea(not sure if it counts as seafood, it is a mollusk after all...)

Working on getting one myself. I have a lot of experience with scorpionfish but never had a stone fish. Honestly the scorpions make me more nervous because they’re just so chaotic.
And this is one of many reasons I'm terrified of going in the ocean.
And this is just the stuff we know about!
When you consider that we know more about the surface of planets millions of miles away than we do about life at the bottom of the ocean, there could be some truly terrifying stuff down there!
When i was really little i swam out in the water i was drowning when i came out of the water since my dad rescued me i had a jellyfish on my amdomin
***** i really dont care about scary thing in the deep, if they stay there and dont bother me.
in europe many beaches are safe and there are no animals that could hurt you. on some places are urchins but if you wear swimshoes you are safe.
dude come to Ireland, probably the safest country in the world.
These are a risk walking around the beach. You'd be unlucky to be stabbed by one while you're swimming. However there are plenty of other good reasons not to swim around Oz like Box Jellyfish, which are far more dangerous and much more painful.
Australia is a dodgy (but interesting) place.
Did anyone else scream inside when he picked it up with his hands?
...yes
YES OMG
I
I did not scream inside... I pooped myself!
I thought to myself "Hmm good thing I dive with booties.....then I had to rewind the part when Dr. Seymour said "Ah it'll go clean through a wetsuit bootie"....
that scientist looks like an old markiplier
the Australian guy in my opinion is the most attractive lol
Get Money Do Drugs You mean the Smarter guy?
Kamran T. Thats a big stretch
Lol true, he does
SO true!
3:27 yeh this is what we humans love,

fascinating creature we are
What is the music called
@@rat8926 I know it's late, but " A Shell in the Pit - Knight"
@@aaronbarry4608 ive waited for this very moment thank you
@@rat8926 Haha! Glad I could help :)
You a simpleton: "I hope you step on a lego"
Mother Nature, an intellectual: "I hope you step on a stonefish"
Both are mortals
"Toxinologist - don't get it twisted!" 🤣
Thanks for your videos. Never was into science early in life. Now in my 30s....I love it. Genuine person and great interviewer. Not to mention humor.
From Wiki: "The pain is said to be so severe that the victims of its sting have been known to demand that the affected limb be amputated."
"I got spiked on the finger by a Stonefish in Australia … never mind a bee sting. Got sensation back in my finger after a few days but had recurrent kidney pains periodically for several years afterwards."
samik83 tf is up with Australia man. Everything in that country wants to kill u. Literally.
That guy has the most Australian accent I have ever heard
As an Australian myself, I can only state that pretty much every Australian has an accent that thick.
Idk if its cause english isnt my first language, but it took me almost a minute to figure out the words he was saying...
It's probably the case that others had such a thick accent you didn't even realize it was australian
Queenslander...!
It's not that much to be honest some outback people have unintelligible speaking even to an australian
Thats kinda how my "spine" works too
Joe Love you must have a microscopic spine.
MEEPISMEEPTASTIC Thats corny as shit😂👎
lmfaooo
Joe Love 😂😂😂
Lmao that comedic last part though
That guy is the most Australian man I have ever seen
PINGPONGROCKSBRAH You don't see many australians, do you?
Georgie Pineda Nope. I stay far away from that crazy continent and all its terrifying wildlife.
PINGPONGROCKSBRAH That toxinologist, Jamie, is practically every aussie dad ever. As for the most aussie guy, id say this bloke i grew up with, who looks like a complete bogan - full bushmans beard at 17 and would bring his own carton of VB in an esky to every gatho.. Just for him, while wearing shorts, a rubgy jersey, and thongs in the middle of winter. Bloody legend of a man
Exercise Scientist Note that thongs is just what we Australians call flip flops
I thought all Aussie guys were like Alf from home and away..flammin' mongrels..
Religious arguments in the comment section of a fish video... Yeah I know "welcome to the internet"

This might just be the coolest thing I have ever seen
hmmm. not sure if people know the difference between venomous and poisonous lol..
Reading through the comments that becomes quite apparent lol. He should have quickly taken a moment and discussed that.
For anyone else seeing this comment: Poison= you take a bite of it and you die. Venomous= It takes a bite of you and you die
What is the dif?
then youre poisonous and should be put down just incase
a human thats just kinky
Man: "How sharp is that?"
Scientist: "Yeah"
Its the combination with its perfect camouflage that makes it really dangerous.
I am disturbed when the skin goes down for some reason. Send help

NismoZTuner I LOVE YOU
The song when they had the extraction in slowmotion. imagine getting stung by those and you just go : ooooh oooh oooh oooooooh. like the song
Everything in 'Straalia is out to kill you. EVERYTHING.
TheLast2nd tax is worse then poison.
TheLast2nd Here in the UK we killed them before they killed us :P
No bears or wolves. Our most lethal animal? The Wild Stag.
Oh yea, we live the life over here. ;D
Still, I guess those deadly animals come with having the best accent int he world, seriously I could NEVER wake up and not have a smile on my face that morning after an aussie says "G'Day Mate!" to me! :D
TheLast2nd Actually its just the tourists who get killed, born and raised Australians know how to deal with things like this. Like actually staying inside the jellyfish nets.
TheLast2nd Even chocolates?
tavymcsavy Things still want to kill you
There is no way you can't continue this series, too many questions left unanswered.
You learn 1,000 different things every day. Make sure this is one of 'em.
Love it. You're a genius, sir.
Thank you! :D
It's actually you forget 1000 things a day unless you were trying to make a joke
***** yes
seeing a stonefish in the wild is something else. theyre so hard to spot underwater
I saw one in Maldives
Meither that’s dedication to write that
Wow
Were you on edbles when you wrote this
I didn’t read this but I just liked because of all the writing XD

DaScout Gaming 😀glad to hear
DaScout Gaming wow very scary day probaply
@73Corbin dunno how it is in the philippines, but me and my acquired cousin went hunting for sea urchins, iirc the ones we got around my uncle's boat were brown, but i may be wrong, i should ask my father.
sea urchins are a delicacy, one of my favorite foods from the sea(not sure if it counts as seafood, it is a mollusk after all...)
Rude
DaScout Gaming that’s why teach kids about fishes when going to lakes or beach cause they may pick up something can get them sick like I did I nearly ending up in the hospital I felt I was dying I was super massive sick I picked up a spiky ball from the beach I forgot what they call them I got sick that same night
I just came back from the Hub website, and that title got me thinking dirty again.
Yeah just let the super-venom spray into the air over your exposed hands lmao
It has to get into the blood stream.
I wouldn't have risked it entering my pores lol
Larry Panozzo
I wouldnt either. I wouldnt touch that thing at all. lol
You can drink venom without it harming you, as long as it does get into your blood
doesn't*
and thats just another tick on a long list of why i don't ever leave my desk
Can I step on one with my timbs and be ok?
