    By far, one of my favorite vids! I’ve done 6 cars with a Maxshine M15 Pro and now a Dewalt cordless DA and I’ve been continually let down with results (especially when I’m using the same pad/compound combos as other people and not seeing the same outcome that they got). You’ve shown me that getting that glass finish isn’t always achievable, and for that, THANK YOU. I was really starting to lose faith in myself.

    Something I've been thinking of lately and you're the guy who might entertain this idea and help educate myself and others... if you had time and energy, could you do a video where you take a compound and pair it up with a few different pads and machines then do a few passes and show the difference of clear coat each one removes? You can easily wipe off with a quality mf. What you consider easy to the next is personal preference. Do you have to prime the pads. No, but again that will depend on what pad are you using with what machine and type of paint.
      Can you use water on the pad? Yes, you can spritz with water if needed to get more refinement and work time out of the material. Again, job specific. So to answer these questions more generally, the bottle label is explaining this. They are diminishing abrasive formulas.

Obviously there will be major differences in drivetrain reliability between a higher performance sedan with a v8 shoved under the hood, and a small engine meant to run forever. I do tons of research before I buy cars, and only buy ones that have documentation showing that regular maintenance has been done. I plan for expected/unexpected repairs in my budget too, so nothing catches me by surprise. You can't always have a fun 400+ hp german car and not expect issues. I certainly would never trade it for something Japanese or American.

The Refinish Ultra is made specifically for hard clear coat and water borne paints. It may still be necessary to wet sand the area and cut and polish. Please ensure you have the proper amount of clear coat to work with before trying to cut or sand, then polish. Hi Brian. What is the best way to prevent holograms with the rotary?

    • @rwmagnus
      @rwmagnus 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’m sure Brian will reply. I use a rotary quite a bit and prefer wool pads. The key IMO is a clean pad and keep the pad as flat to the surface as possible. Rarely do I get holograms but sometimes with really finicky paint you’ll need a DA. I usually clean with a pad spur after each section is polished. Sometimes I’ll use compressed air or a mf cloth but the spur does a good job. I also use a lot of pads and mf towels usually one per panel.

    • @apexdetail85
      @apexdetail85  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Use the wool pads to cut. And if you are having problems with holograms on softer clear...switch over to softer foam finishing pads. That will remedy it.

    I have never used wool pads, or micro fiber, only foam pads. So saying that , what's the wool pad of choice, and or micro fiber pad that I could have, or should have in my arsenal ?

    Hi Brian, looking to buff a couple clear coat scratches on my Camaro. They do not seem very deep. Is there a specific product/procedure you recommend. I am looking to do more auto detail myself as I am a beginner.

    Does 3d one work as well for swirls etc. I already have it but am a total novice, thanks.

    Interesting to see that first test swell more under the heat of the purple pad. Very minor but very real. That M550 rotary comes as 3-in but your plate is ?

      I have a 5 inch plate on it. Has no problem correcting an entire vehicle with it.

    Hi Brian, why sometimes using rotary + wool will leave wool marks? Is it because too much cutting & heat? And also wiping the residue leads to wipe scracthes?
    Thanks

      On soft clear...that will happen. Switch to soft foam polish pads.

    I have a question for anyone that knows the answer, if you have a deep clear coat scratch why would you wet sand then go to a DA and a polish instead of wet sand to a compound then a polish? I have a key scratch down the side of my car and I'm in the wet sanding phase and it's not coming out but I don't want to destroy my clear even though my car is garage kept 100% of the time I'm not driving it. So I was going to go from wet sanding to compounding to polishing then apply a synthetic wax. Am I wrong assuming I should compound after wet sanding or should I jump straight to polishing? Thanks in advance for any help to my question.

    Great as always Brian, I had a question about the backing plate on the rotary. Is it a 6 inch lake country and pads you use 6 inch as well ?

    • @apexdetail85
      @apexdetail85  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is a 5 inch. The pads are 5.5 inch Lake Country.

    What would be a good compound for user friendly experience? I usually use M105 but even with the tips for limiting dust.. I just cant deal with it any more? I was thinking fast correcting cream might be what im looking for? You have amazing detailed videos, so I figured id give it a shot and ask an opinion.. (home detailer learning as I go with a DA, Non professional)

    My question is how does one know what finish paint or clear coat is hard or soft?

    • @apexdetail85
      @apexdetail85  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Correction can be made easily with polish pads and very mild abrasives on soft clear. On the other hand...hard , stubborn clear will just laugh at such an attempt.
