B great freaking video brother. You and Scott have helped me out so much in my business. I couldn't ask for any better Detail idols than you gentlemen.
You are a true master of Your craft! So precise, patient, schooled! I study this channel! Thanks for sharing these educational videos with us. You deserve 600+ thousand followers!
Man that's a lot of real estate for 2 steps and a coating! I liked how you emphasized the need to keep the most clear, as you often do. That truck looked beautiful. Another really great video. I always come out of view them with some more good instruction.
Hi Brian I’m practicing detailing here in England , I must say your my best man that I follow for detailing , old school , very clear and very good , the best , well done , keep the videos coming.
This was a very good video to watch I learned a lot. I have a 370Z Nismo with really soft paint and clear. This video showed me how to approach the softer clear by trying to use less aggressive products and pads. Thanks
So the process for a paint correction is try a test area with the softest polishing foampad and check if that gets the desired result? if not try a heavier cut foampad on a different area, check result again (change along compound/polish with more cutting performance offcourse) so on till you get the desired result? Then do the whole car using what worked? is that the way to go generally? doesnt this cause uneven sections in paint thickness? Also my cars paint is still in really good shape except 3 or 4 spots with some minor scratches (in the clear coat), so i assume i compound just THOSE spots and then polish the WHOLE car before applying protection? or would you say still compound the whole car to keep the clear coat even over the car? Really enjoyed the video!! tnx
Your narrative, examples and techniques are giving me the knowledge and confidence I needed to start polishing cars. Without your incredible classes which delivers real depth and also anticipates our questions with complete and insightful answers. It's like sitting at the feet of the master and I am very appreciative to watch, listen and learn. Thank you Brian. PS which foam pad (mint green) was used with the Optimum?
I have a black 2013 Ford Taurus limited with 160k miles on it. Don't know the history of the paint. It hasn't been painted or corrected since I've owned it with 90k miles on it. I plan on using it for my first paint correction. I'm going to use the rupes system with the yellow blue and white foam pads to keep it simple to prevent any irreversible mistakes. I did purchase a few yellow wool pads just in case it's a little more stubborn. The paint has ALOT of swirls and some deep scratches that I'm going to try my best to minimize. Any tips before I give it a try would be appreciated.
Question, when doing a 2-step, do you complete the entire vehicle first and then go over it with a finishing polish? Or do you complete each panel doing 2-step before moving on to the next panel?
couldnt you use use the sonax perfect finish as the polish? It seemed to outperform the angel wax by miles. Also with the compound couldnt you just stick to megs d300 and perfect finish and just mess around with the pads to achieve the same results?
Another great tutorial Brian, my question is, if you could only have 1 compound, 1 polish, and 1 finishing polish plus pads in your arsenal what would they be. Thanks Rob UK
@Apex Thanks for your videos! I accidentally sanded a rock chip too much while trying to fix it. Now I have a penny sized hole down to the primer (white), surrounded by a 2 inch base coat area, surrounded by a 5 inch sanded clear-coat area. This is on my bonnet. What is the recommended course of action (can it be done with a touch-up pen of base-coat and another of clear)? Much appreciate your expert opinion.
Hi Brian, Please, could you tell me the average time does 2 step correction required? I have started offering some paint enhancements/corrections and coating, but some people are criticize me about the time I take to finish the job. 2 step correction takes me about two days and a half including paint decontamination. Is it to much? Please I need your kind advice.
What’s the average charge for a mid size sedan(Hyundai Sonata) to be compounded and polished, not sealed or waxed I like doing that on my own? I can wash, clay and decon, I just can’t polish for lack of a machine and most places won’t JUST compound and polish it, they need to re wash re clay etc..,
Brian thank you again so much for all of your tutelage! I’m about ready to start correcting my 2008 Chevy Silverado Duramax 2500. Is that green pad lake country?
I wish these polishers had a side handle like the rotary's. Reaching over to grab the polisher by body looks uncomfortable and blocks the view of the panel.
Hi Brian, is a paint gauge of any value when dealing with a car with a "clear coat"? Or is a paint gauge most useful when dealing with a "single-stage" paint surface? Thanks.
From what I gathered, very confusing as each panel or area of the car had different pads and compounds. What combo worked for the whole car? And why show what steps were taken on a hood that wasn’t on the actual Colorado? When I want to paint correct a car, I want to know a process for the whole car, not different processes on different sections.
HELP PLEASE So I recently switched from my rotary DeWalt to rupes 15 inch with 6 " pad Dual polisher Watched bunch of videos and techniques Using blue and yellow rupes pad and blue compound and yellow polished. Took time with one panel . Washed , claybar , sanded gently with 3000 Did step one and two , slow motion , overlap the whole 9 yards And it looked absolutely stunning .....BUT 3 days later I saw it on the sun and 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮 Scratches ( spider ) everywhere, color next to the door I didn't do was too dull as if I am looking through the fog .... I am open to any suggestions and pointers . Understand it is hard without seeing me working it but I figure I would ask anyway . Thank you
Great informative video. A big problem I have for my area during hot season is dusting from even the longest “work time”, compounds and polish. I noticed you stated to keep rate down to 3-4 I usually run my Rupes at 4-5. Could heating of pad and panel add to the dust? And also I really have to wash vehicle again after correction due to dusting any tips?
Nice video, Brian. Thanks. I’ve wondered when you use the flex mini rotary, you normally use speed 3 or 4; which would put the RPM’s in the 2,000’s. That’s awfully high?? Do you run a full size rotary that high too?
Brian, what size backing plate and what size hybrid foam/wool pad did you use on the Flex PE-8? - Also, I did like the combo of the Uro Fiber pad with the Sonax; it produced nice results. The overall end result: sweet! Thanks for the video
Toby, not to speak for Brian but usually after compounding and polishing a car you need to either add a sealant and or wax, or a ceramic coating alone to protect the clear coat.
Why do you use sonax perfect finish instead of the sonax compound followed by the perfect finish? Then you use Angelwax polish to finish the whole truck? Why not use sonax perfect finish the whole time?
I’m baffled. So you used a different pad and a different compound for every section? Is that pretty normal? Would it be unusual to use the same compound/same pad for the whole car?
Thank you for this I have a couple of GM vehicles and the paint can be hard to detail. What's cool with GM is every car you purchase you get orange peel paint for free, So nice of them....SMH
I’m sorry but.... I can’t help but notice you snatch that maxshine right up on your videos. I love it too. Just saying. Is it a mental thing? Oh I don’t want to put the hours on my blah blah blah. I’m not saying... but I’m saying... I fell in love with mine.
I thought you were more of a rotary guy. How do you decide when to use a rotary vs DA? I was going to buy a Max Shine, but you had me talked into a rotary after watching your other videos. Now I'm confused... :-)
Totally agree. I have an old Meguiars DA that I use on my car (I am not a professional). I recently heard about Max Shine and was all geared up to buy one. I asked my question with a bit of a chuckle because I recently found Brian's videos on using the rotary, and after watching it I was REALLY interested in learning to use one. That Max Shine looks like a great machine as well and I was curious when to use one or the other...
Seriously, as someone who's owned several black vehicles this video should be titled: What a mess! Why to never buy a black car! How can all that happen in a year? truth is, it happens to most but you just can't see it I guess....wow...what a mess.
@@apexdetail85 well I have a shit Dodge that sucks too. 14 years old under 50,000 gas mileage sort of sucks it was a pre hurricane truck when 13 mpg was great with cheap gas. Now it has the rust wheel well surface that that they all suffer from. I think Dodge just painted rusted metal so you would get a nice surprise.
I'm concerned that a novice might watch your video and think it's ok to run the polisher over body seams. The high spot will burn easily if not end up with no clear coat left on it. I'm sure you know this, but your viewers may not. If i saw someone doing that on my car i would unplug the polisher for them.

We skipped over one step corrections...but will come back to it. I have a fun video planned for that topic. Cheers!
Look forward to it!!
Brian, do you find on repaired areas who wind up with more clear to work with or less?
Most of the time... it is more than the factory lays down.

When it gets to the finishing step.. I do that all at once.
Brian you and Scott from Dallas paint correction should do a video together on how y'all started in the detailing profession.
Thank you for sharing rich experience/education!
My pleasure!!
Confused me abit. Did you finish with Sonax pf or Anglewax?
couldnt you use use the sonax perfect finish as the polish? It seemed to outperform the angel wax by miles. Also with the compound couldnt you just stick to megs d300 and perfect finish and just mess around with the pads to achieve the same results?
Brian, how about some soft paint, ie Honda. Best selling car in America, would be bennifical to alot of Honda owners.
Depending on the level of damage... start with Sonax Perfect Finish and a firm polish pad.....step up if necessary.
If you ever retire...you would make a great trainer/instructor.
Maybe🙂
Thank You for another amazing video. Very educational. I have learned alot from you.
That is all I could hope for.🙂
IGL coatings ftw!! Love working with them

Sonax cut max, Polish Angel master polish, Angelwax Perfect polish. Lake Country wool.🙂
What would be your chosen choice for finishing pads
I was wondering why you don’t mask the trim with tape?
Were those water spots? I dealt with some before on my personal truck and I had to Were sand them. Great job on this truck!
Do you teach classes at your shop?
Did you say at the end that you only do a 2 step if your applying a ceramic coating?
@Apex Thanks for your videos! I accidentally sanded a rock chip too much while trying to fix it. Got the same truck same year same color paint suck on that truck but it’s a beautiful working driving truck.
Do I need to use iron and tar remover before I polish? Or can i just use a clay bar? Also is there anything special soap to use for this?
Use Iron & Tar remover before you Clay Bar. Depends on condition of paint what steps to do.

Btw forgot to mention I live in a desert.
Indeed.. that heat will cause the compound to flash quicker.
Dude I have such a problem with dusting, a literally full layer of dust covers the car windows and surrounding panels no matter what I do
Are you using anti vibration gloves?
great video again buddy. I c Jr on his phone hard at work.lol.b well good friend 🍻🍻
Richard Seem hahahaa yep.
Is this video intended for weekend warriors, like me? I would be way to uneasy to use anything other than a DA.
At which point during this process would fixing stone chips be?
You wash and clay bar the paint .then you would fix stone chips..after everything is cured you wet sand and then you compound and polish
Nice video, Brian. Thanks. I’ve wondered when you use the flex mini rotary, you normally use speed 3 or 4; which would put the RPM’s in the 2,000’s. That’s awfully high?? Do you run a full size rotary that high too?
Mid speed.. or a bit over is te perfect balance for me . Cutting in a timely manner... but keeping temps down.
Brian, what size backing plate and what size hybrid foam/wool pad did you use on the Flex PE-8? - Also, I did like the combo of the Uro Fiber pad with the Sonax; it produced nice results. The overall end result: sweet! Thanks for the video
5 inch backing plate...5 inch pad.
Apex Detail Thank you!
Are microfiber pads a risk to use?
Brian so you are saying laying down a multi step correction should only be done if you are going to add a ceramic coating?
Toby, not to speak for Brian but usually after compounding and polishing a car you need to either add a sealant and or wax, or a ceramic coating alone to protect the clear coat.
At sealant at the very least.
After all, you went to a lot of work to remove defects, and took off a little clear coat, why not take steps to preserve that beautiful finish?
Why do you use sonax perfect finish instead of the sonax compound followed by the perfect finish? Then you use Angelwax polish to finish the whole truck? Why not use sonax perfect finish the whole time?
I’m baffled. So you used a different pad and a different compound for every section? Is that pretty normal? Would it be unusual to use the same compound/same pad for the whole car?
Does angelwax perfect polish is similar to meguiars d302 polish? What tire dressing you used in the colorado?
It is a bit different than megs. I used Gyeon Q2 tire

great
