Hey Larry, I have been subscribed for a long time and have been watching your videos for several years. Your videos were the first videos that got me into wanting to really start to "DETAIL" my own cars and they struck an OCD cord with me. I have been working on my cars and other family members cars and getting better and better. Watching and rewatching your great comprehensive steps to detailing, for example the one here, have made a big difference. About 16 years ago I started a dark period in my life where a heart disease that I was diagnosed with at age 19 finally took over and I became completely disabled at age 38. After a series of operations, procedures and many many medications my heart finally arrived at the end stage of heart failure in 2016 and was placed on a heart transplant list. I was one of the lucky ones and a heart became available just 4 months after being placed on the list. The surgery was just over 2 years ago and I now know how normal people feel...lol. Sorry for the history but wanted you to know that while this was going on I was watching and learning. It would take my mind off things for a little while. I now want to jump into the detailing world with both feet. If you get time I would love to talk to you or exchange emails on how I can go about this. Thank you in advance. By the way...where can I get that detailing brush that was used at 16:06 in the video?
I had a black car some 12 years ago. Refused to ever get one again. Ended up with a black car purchased in the summer. Got a decent deal on it and looked to be well taking of. Ugh such a PITA. They do look nice when taking care of..
As a detailer with just over 10 yrs. experience, its refreshing to listen to you guys. I really appreciate all the simple little tricks you and Kevin pass along, you guys are inspiring!
I was lucky enough to be invited to one of Larry's launch party\seminars a few years ago. He is the nicest person and very available to answer any questions. This brought me back to that day where I learned so much in such a short amount of time. Thank you Larry for taking the time to film and share these nuggets of knowledge with us.
This could be a video on discouraging someone from doing their own detailing. In all these video's, I think I've heard 4 to 5 different cutting and sealing variations with several variations within each and at least 2 or 3 terminologies in regards to several steps of doing each process.
Polishing paint with these tools is no joke. It’s not super easy and you can ruin your cars paint. If this is too much information that you don’t care to learn or figure out, you probably shouldn’t try to polish your own car. You want easy, pay the money for a pro to do it.
Driver 302: Thanks for the comment, I laughed myself silly. Bought a black metallic car a few months ago. My gosh, what a nightmare! I am obsessed with taking care of the clearcote. I have to check it constantly for even the tiniest blob of bird poop. I would LOVE to wrap it in plastic!!!
Cheril I wash mine. Then go inside to change my clothes. And by the Time I come back I have to start again. Just the dust alone that settles is enough to send me crazy. It’s a vicious circle.
Driver 302: I'm cracking up!! Your so right. Someone complemented me how nice my car looked (I had just washed it two days b4). I said "Oh my gosh, its filthy".
Scott Maxwell: Oh man, you are worse off than me. My car is just an Impreza and I am the only one who cares about how it looks. YOU on the other hand, having a showy sports car, have to keep it looking flawless because everyone is going to look at it.
Awesome video. After 16 hours of polishing on a 2010 Mustang GT I bought 4 months ago I finally got it dialed in. I have been trained by one of the best in the country. Mike Phillips to be exact. It still took a lot of research and patience to finally get it to perfection. Every serious detailers should watch this video
When he said "what's up guys, I wanna hop in here before the video starts" I was thinking "oh no. Here comes an annoying sponsor ad, Larry sold out". And then he went on to say that he already washed and dried the car and then I remembered Larry is freaking awesome and does this because he wants to help us and educate us, not because he wants to make money off of us. My dad had a black twin spinner Ford taxi in the early '50s which he used for weddings & funerals. After polishing it you could see streaks all over the paintwork. He would sprinkle corn flour over the car and then go over it section by section, lightly, with a polishing cloth. This completely removed the streaks with little effort.

I encountered this on my last detail. '97 Viper GTS where the front clamshell has been re-painted, but the back half was original. Water and frequent pad cleaning/ adding more, not less polish was the solution. Seeing this in this form is amazing. Thank you for everything you do Larry, and Kevin. Amazing work as always.

Key point that was said by the Guru, "Keep in mind your removing Paint or Clear Coat Permanently" So only cut the paint if you HAVE to. I try to explain this to folks that are out every other weekend with their polisher chasing down every single imperfection in their daily driver. You just might be doing more harm than good, and to think that oops I removed too much clear coat, I will just add another coat of a ceramic coating in place of what I just took off, it doesn't work that way. Nothing will help your paint more than the factory clear (assuming it is 2 or 3 stage paint etc). Just my thoughts.

We professionals like to call this the "KBM" or Kevin Brown Method. I learned more in a 20 minute phone call with Kevin than I have in 5 years of doing paint correction. 👍
Finally I am getting my black car to actually look good. I have tried so many pads, polishers and products and it just never comes out like I see in everyones videos. Finally seen that I still had residue and my aint or area was not prepped right. I was using some harsh stuff that felt like sand and still it didn't make a difference still had the same swirls and scratches just more shine to it. I wasn't taking my time wasn't leveling down pads but most importantly my prep was garbage.
100 percent cotton cloths and NO POLISH. Polish just fills the surface making it appear smooth and eventually dust just sticks to it. Cotton is finer than microfibre. Use microfibre under a light at night and you can see it marking the paint. Cotton is so fine it actually makes the paint smooth, like glass. I spent 8 hours on my bonnet. I can see my damn pores in my paint. Cotton rag folded into 4. 2 passes..in straight line in metal flow direction..turn rag a quarter turn to left or right and do 2 more passes..repeat until you have done all 4 edges. Get new section of cotton, repeat. Meticulous work..but the best you will ever have your paint. Makes it like glass, and it stays that way. I live on a dirt road and this makes the surface so smooth the dust bounces off it. You're welcome.
+1 on the water on dry residue after the mow-down cycle with compound. I sometimes even used the water compound slurry on the paint with the buffer to let the compound continue to do its thing (sometimes it would dry out prematurely due to the ambient temperature because we were in SC in the summer- indoors of course but still...) it almost always worked out. Before the age of inspection lights (early 1989) we would take it back out in the sun to do a CHECK. The sun would be a tell-tale sign of how we were doing. We have come so far now that it's unreal...
I am so grateful for this man. What a champ Barry is. All his products are bang on, high quality concours level stuff, AMMO NYC stuff is amazing too of course but Meguairs is just absolutely phenomenal and kept my car looking pristine.
Finally!!! You’ve been “KILLING ME LARRY” with posting 1 of 3!! I’ve literally been checking TH-cam every day! I was SHOCKED about how little liquid was used on the last polishing step! I would have thought I needed to add a lot more
No way he used that little amount and have an oily film left to wipe off. Just watch how lil you can see the polish when he starts to when he wipes it off this video is misleading and edited.
It's refreshing to see professionals use readily available equipment and products. It shows you don't need to spend thousands of dollars to get a quality result.
Appreciate this. Black paint has been my nightmare. I only have a 2013 Hyundai Accent but these videos help me make the most of my black paint. My paint looks better than 2018 models rolling out of factories. Thanks for all the tips. Your products also work great too for me.
Spring is coming here in Minnesota and I’m pulling the black 996 out soon. I’m going to get busy now! Winter beater is silver so it will get some love. Blue Macan is in the running. So much to learn as I’m more a mechanic than a detailer. Great channel! Been watching this grow for years.
You two are the best and Barry is just down right the MAN. I use a bunch of their products. I know what you were intending to do but I couldn’t help thinking dang its a black race car just go drive the hell out of it. You drive down the coast and just reversed the process! California sand is hell on paint. When your gonna drive the car make it look good from 5 feet and go enjoy the drive.
I have a 2001 black hilander. From past 5 feet it looks great... Get close and watter spots every where...that have been there awhile . And lots of small scratches plus the hood looks like someone shot it a few hundred times with a BB gun. A noob to car detailing and polishing. Just purchase all equipment and chemicals to give it serious TLC.Almost $200 😮..and it's 105 outside and I don't have a garage 😢 But I will figure it out. Been religiously watching and saving best available videos in preparation so thank you for this one as it's specifically designed for my situation 😊
Hello, I live in Mexico and I am really grateful and above all surprised with everything that you give us as a teaching channel, thanks for sharing some of the people who know that giving is the same as receiving. winning, winning is the best investment in life. I honor and congratulate you from Mexico. Not to mention that until English I'm learning as I look for the way to translate everything you say and good in an article that you left the links to read in that where I learned your language. Thank you . I am an enthusiastic detailer and the truth is that I have been making some mistakes for some years, but with this I have made a huge leap into the present and excellence. Saludos desde México
Absolutely killer video Larry! So much prescription in detailing, this pad, this polish, this speed...I've spent hours researching. At some point you have to jump in, but at what risk? This is just the video that everyone NEEDS to watch. It's about process. Technique is easy, buying expensive s*#t is easy, but understanding approach and how to adapt, besides "start with the least abrasive" is difficult to put to words given the millions of cars and paint types...this is so well done, much appreciated. Thank you man!
Thanks for bringing the masses content that is available for everyone for free Larry. Very much appreciated that I don't have to pay hundreds of dollars to take a class to learn from a professional.
Like Kevin said “ not more difficult “ if you are swirling a black car , you are swirling every car. It is a process that you should do on every detail.
If you’re working in a driveway and want to avoid contaminants after cleaning would it make sense to work in panel sections? Wash/clay/polish and move to the next?
Well, I don't have access to a garage and stuck polishing in my back yard. I used a DA for the 1st time last week, used Meguiars Ultimate Compound then Ultimate Polish followed by Gold Class Carnuba Plus on the hood of my dark grey c300. It actually came out good, no where near perfect and still many defects but my goal was to just not screw it up. Gave me confidence that I can do it myself. Now I'm just waiting for all the pollen to stop blowing around everywhere to do some more.
Yeah my car is black too. When my car is washed and I leave it in the garage for 12 hrs before the waxing stage you can see the build up of dust and bits on the surface.
What a privilege to work with the best names in the industry Larry a job well done!! You are such an inspiration to me and to alot of aspiring detailers out there.
Very informative indeed. I’ve heard this a couple of times lately that it’s better to do less passes as all you are doing is work in paint residue rather than getting the results you’re after. Suits me as it takes less time!
Mod MINI could you please explain to me what the benefits of the blue tape is. Ive read that it's so it doesn't damage the paint on the edges of the car but I've done paint correction on 3 cars. I haven't used any blue tape as I don't see any damage or did I get it wrong? Thanks
So much information in this video!!! I love it!! I'm really tired off all these mobile detailers makeing videos contradicting the steps that need to be taken. They play it off like this isn't important, or that isn't important....they keep watering down the detailing realm with bad, very bad information. Dont get me wrong I'm a mobile detailer but I dont make video after video of miss information and watering down the ideas and processes involved in correcting paint. I just dont get it. Disheartening at the least. What's worse is these guys feel like they are providing the correct information. My rant is over.. Hopefully someone else has seen this in the detailing community.
This video really explained some of the hardships I've been having on my 80s mercedes Smoke Silver paint. Part of it was overworking M105, but the residue and contamination aspects I think more explain why the compound residue was sticking so much.
I've been following your techniques for polishing black paint. I have a black Subaru Legacy (you know how Subaru is with their paint). It was a bit of a nightmare initially. I was using a fine polish and a finishing pad it almost seemed like I wasn't even cutting through the hazing. Thought I was crazy then I realized I just wasn't cleaning the pad enough. I started by clearing it a lot more often then looking back over it, the hazing was coming out. It took a good 8 hours but I saw it in the sun today, it's not perfect but I'd say way way better at this point. I have my girlfriends black VW Golf to tackle next. We'll see how that goes.
Thank you so much for your tips I was able to detail my 1st F250 this past week, it was black and it was covered it in the kind of stain you use on wood. Came out looking buttery.
If you keep buffing and compounding on a regular basis sooner or later you will run out of paint on your car,as the man said you are removing paint and cutting paint. The best thing to do is to do it once and then put a protective polish on it that if you are going to keep the car for long.Thank you for your video .
I keep seeing ppl asking what if I dont have space in my garage or dont own a garage, what then.. I suggest using underground parking car wash (big shopping centers usually have it) and clay + polishing it there. There is definitely less dust/sand/contaminants then outside in the open. This is just a tip, hope you find it useful
Like always the best detailing videos. Larry thanks a lot for having kevin brown on your video and sharing the knowledge from a Professional poin of view
Wonderful tutorial . Came across a tacoma hood that had oxidation and heavy discoloration . Stubborn swirls and I just did 2 step paint correction on a 2018 blk srt8 charger last week in my shop looks flawless. Today struggles on hood. I believe my pads are taking up faster with all the oxidation I will follow these steps weird that different paint shop different results. FYI the Tacoma is electric blue not even blk
I’ve seen so many detailers on TH-cam priming pads with spray wax or quick detailers. Also spraying a panel with either of these in between passes to remove polish or compound..Only now common sense is being applied,I hope many of these detailers get to see this.
Ive used meguires 26 on by black 2006 Silverado since day one and incredibly no swirls ,just deep black shine. I use it on my other vehicle and Harley too. Incredible stuff.
Excellent video. Yes, it is not a quick detail however, we are dealing with a black car. It's very different from any other color. Again, great hard work with greater results.
Great video as always. I've been watching Your videos (as a professional detailer) since 2014 and learned a lot. Love the editing and extra animations. Keep it getting better and of course KEEP IT CLEAN! Cheers from Poland :D
Larry, great video! I wanted to ask, what if you don't have access to a garage? How can I make this into a driveway project for my Corvette while minimizing/avoiding contamination!?
I'd like to preface my most likely long winded comment with I have been doing full paint corrections to simple finishing or for about 20 years or so from starting when we only had those dinosaur T-Rex aggressive air powered rotaries to current machines. What a learning curve but helps customers feel more comfortable and I believe brought more business HOWEVER am no means a pro or come close to the 2 of you. First I can't thank you enough for your videos and videos with Kevin. I'm also one who wants to know the why's and "on paper" explanations. You 2 have elevated so much of my ability and my customers are always extremely satisfied. Recently, and for what I believe the first time I had run into this problem here. Sure, I've cleaned pads, played with pressure yet now having watches this and being mindful of residue control most important, priming in a different way and using this technique had my paint correction improve and move along so much better and easier. This is a constantly learning business and my contacts reach only so far with all of us sharing our trials and errors and experimentation results but you can never stop adding to your knowledge ammunition. Between yourself and Kevin, this technique and especially the residue control of clear, which can be easily overlooked, has helped not just myself tremendously however passing along this video has helped many of my contacts and friends in the business. Time saver, improved quality of work and having more in the arsenal between our ears was amazing. So a huge thank you to yourself and for having Kevin with you for the help and knowledge this gave us all in frustrating situations. It's great to see guys like the 2 of you so willing to share as opposed to just keeping to yourself to improve. This will help this business and continue to form a long time to come. I'm in NY, about 60 miles from you and hope to meet you one day in the shop and thank you in person!!
What should be the very first process? Wet sanding with 1000/1500 grid paper or by claying Should I need to do both process one after the another as the purpose of both is to remove the dust layer !
I'm about to take on the task of doing my own truck, I've ordered a buffer pads all meguires products and taking the weekend off next week 🙃...wish me luck
Well produced videos ! You break it down and make things simple and clear to understand . One of my mentors and go to companies for anything Detailing . Thanks Ammo NYC !
Great great video... !!! I've been detailing car's for years and started buffing recently and learning the science behind it (which I think is amazing) this video just tought me a hole bunch !!! So, thank you for the great video !!! 👍👍
A little tail that happened to me. When I finished polishing my car a wonderful Farmer decided to plow his field next to my house. I had a dusting of freshly plowed field on my car. It was fine dirt. I wiped the car down carefully with a microfiber towel. I then reflexed and skinned the car. I noticed several weeks later love marks. Yeap, you got it. I scratched the car with the microfiber/dirt filled towel. I only used one side of the clean towel on a small area. It wasn't enough OCD. I should have used air to blow it off. Guess I will have to fix it this spring. What a pain.
I use a nano skin pad for the clay process, then i use M105 to remove swirls etc... then i follow with M205 for polish amd my final wax is the menzerna PL.. doing a 2ft X 2ft 12 seconds... left to right then up and down and when i hit 12 seconds i am done with that area. Not a pro detailer but do it as a hobby😇
You guys are great. As they sometimes a very small thing can cause big issue and its really nice you guys cover all such topic which otherwise are ignored or usually arnt given much of a thought. Keep up the good work.

Do you start with the normal amount of liquid and move to the KBM if it doesn’t work or do you just start with the KBM?
Me: "I polished my car with Meguiar's polish.
Larry: "I polished my car with Barry Meguiar at his house.
@McDung him or his house, still funny.
Lol. But he really did in another video. So it's still funny as hell

I would have thought I needed to add a lot more
Andrew Campbell yeah me too on his other videos he shot with Kevin they say to prime all pad even foam then add 2 to 3 pea size drops
I had problems removing hazing today. Watched this video. Saw how little product he used and I tried it. Wow. Paint cane out flawless
No way he used that little amount and have an oily film left to wipe off. Just watch how lil you can see the polish when he starts to when he wipes it off this video is misleading and edited.
Seriously, just thank you for these videos! The knowledge gained from what I've seen thus far is just so invaluable!
The day I bought my black BMW my OCD levels jumped to the roof.
mine jumped off the roof, into an infinite fall
Even tho being a professional car detailer you never stop learning new tricks. Thanks guys some great tips
Thats what I do, it takes me so long all I can stand is one panel a day.
So much skill in doing what he does. I want to do this to my black car but i'm so scared of ruining my paint.
Need for Speed Passion then it isn’t clean to begin with fuck stick!
Yeah. Experiment. Try with 2 passes, then 3, then 4. You'll learn how many passes are needed to get the work done. Use the blue tape for this.
Mod MINI could you please explain to me what the benefits of the blue tape is. Ive read that it's so it doesn't damage the paint on the edges of the car but I've done paint correction on 3 cars. I haven't used any blue tape as I don't see any damage or did I get it wrong? Thanks
Your production quality and quality of work is fantastic. One of my favorite channels on youtube. Thank you for presenting such great content.
There is certainly an element of science to the art of true paint correction. A big thanks for sharing these tips!
This video really explained some of the hardships I've been having on my 80s mercedes Smoke Silver paint. Part of it was overworking M105, but the residue and contamination aspects I think more explain why the compound residue was sticking so much.
Thank you so much AMMO NYC, because of your guy's wise knowledge, I am able to apply these techniques towards my business!
Larry you totally stepped it up with the 3D images/graphics man. Awesome job!!
Jordantastik du tooku mui fu nooku
Wonderful tutorial . Came across a tacoma hood that had oxidation and heavy discoloration . Stubborn swirls and I just did 2 step paint correction on a 2018 blk srt8 charger last week in my shop looks flawless. Today struggles on hood. I believe my pads are taking up faster with all the oxidation I will follow these steps weird that different paint shop different results. FYI the Tacoma is electric blue not even blk
That's why i put a couple of coats of Mr.Sheen dust guard on there after my detailing. Keep the dust at bay!
Just bought a black truck and I knew what I was getting into. But it’s worth it.
This is an infinitely better technique than what I've been doing for the last year. I just need to buy a lot more cutting pads now.
I’ve seen so many detailers on TH-cam priming pads with spray wax or quick detailers. Also spraying a panel with either of these in between passes to remove polish or compound..Only now common sense is being applied,I hope many of these detailers get to see this.
Im amazed how serious these guys are when speaking about car polishing
Ive used meguires 26 on by black 2006 Silverado since day one and incredibly no swirls ,just deep black shine. I use it on my other vehicle and Harley too. Incredible stuff.
Excellent video. Yes, it is not a quick detail however, we are dealing with a black car. It's very different from any other color. Again, great hard work with greater results.
I'd say this is the best channel on TH-cam.
Larry, this is the best video you've ever done! Thanks for this.
Wet sanding with 1000/1500 grid paper or by claying
Should I need to do both process one after the another as the purpose of both is to remove the dust layer !
When I had a detailing shop black paint was my nightmare.
I'm about to take on the task of doing my own truck, I've ordered a buffer pads all meguires products and taking the weekend off next week 🙃...wish me luck
As always Larry another great video but even better with the knowledge Kevin and you share together.
Well produced videos !
You break it down and make things simple and clear to understand .
One of my mentors and go to companies for anything Detailing .
Thanks Ammo NYC !
Man.. I really respect detailers it’s a true art
He knows everything about buffing...
Chemical bazooka larry has a way to make this fun and his selection of his words is great
Lots of great information in this video! Well presented and explained. Looking forward to number 3!
Awsome, cant wait for episode 3, also love the 3D animation
One of my favorite videos of yours Larry Kossila, which is really saying something!
Great great video... !!! I've been detailing car's for years and started buffing recently and learning the science behind it (which I think is amazing) this video just tought me a hole bunch !!! So, thank you for the great video !!! 👍👍
Takes time and an eye for detail . I love doing black cars
Thanks for making these videos. Very helpful for beginners.
I don’t even care about the detailing stuff, i just love the dude
A little tail that happened to me. When I finished polishing my car a wonderful Farmer decided to plow his field next to my house. I had a dusting of freshly plowed field on my car. It was fine dirt. I wiped the car down carefully with a microfiber towel. I then reflexed and skinned the car. I noticed several weeks later love marks. Yeap, you got it. I scratched the car with the microfiber/dirt filled towel. I only used one side of the clean towel on a small area. It wasn't enough OCD. I should have used air to blow it off. Guess I will have to fix it this spring. What a pain.
What a "drag"...
Yeap, that is exactly what happened. I was more upset with myself for not catching it. Live and learn.
ONR probably could have saved you from most of the damage if used properly. Try it next time if it happens.
I hope it never does. It was just dumb luck.
No matter how many videos I watch I realise that this isn’t an exact science and takes lots and lots of practice to get good at.
and patience.
Larry i gotta say man I love your attention to detail. And I mean detail.
Great production, well organized and very professional.
You guys are great. As they sometimes a very small thing can cause big issue and its really nice you guys cover all such topic which otherwise are ignored or usually arnt given much of a thought. Keep up the good work.
Really cool video; so much knowledge being thrown out there! Meguiar's really puts out some fine products, and it was really cool to see the owner at the end; he looks like a hell of a nice guy!

thank you Guys for sharing all this knowledge with us, is nice to see two real Mater detailers being so humble and down to earth. Larry I am going to say this in a nice way of course, I am green with envy about you riding with Berry and driving such a nice car,
Once again WOW Larry! When can we be expecting your new TV show? Because this is just to good for TH-cam! haha all jokes aside tho what another amazing video, it just makes me wish i was there in person. Looking forward to the final episode next week!
Cool man you are the beast bro I learn a lot from u
Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Love the video guys, thanks!
Ok I'm new to buffing. I never knew there was so much to know about polishing cars.. mind blown 😲
