I've had the rapid spin issue happen a few times at random, but as you said it was always on the opposite deck, and pressing the instant doubles tab is what triggered it each time in my case. When I unloaded and reloaded the song, the deck went back to normal speed. Apart from the spinning issue, I have also experienced one of the decks stopping at random. All it takes is to hit the start button to make it play again, but it's weird that it stops. Both of these issues have only happened maybe once or twice within a year, and I was able to recover, but it does make you nervous at critical times like when playing specialty wedding songs.
I've never experienced the random stopping but that would make me very nervous when using them at weddings. I'm really kinda nervous now that the speed issue has happened to both decks.
Thanks for the video. This happened to me 3 times with the mk1’s over 3 years. One night each table did it within a few minutes of each other. I slid the pitch control and it stopped the speed spin.
I want to pull the plug on these after watching your video. I thought the issue was resolved but after coming across your video on the MK2 and seeing that your having the same issue I think I’ve changed my mind.

I still have my Numark V7’s and could have just hooked them up but for almost 15 yrs I’ve been missing that 12” platter feel and the Rane Twelves satisfied that void for me.
Have the MK1s. A couple of years ago it happened to me. Sent it back to Rane and they replaced it with another MK1. Just last nite (2 years later) it happened again. Ugh. Gonna try calibration again and buy the new Chroma USB cables. In addition to this though, one of my MK1s has, and always had, an issue with the platter being quite a bit more firmer torque wise, regardless of what the switch underneath is set to. The other just feels like a 1200 table and is great. The other side too much resistance and can’t seem to change it. Shouldn’t be this way. What really sucks is when this helicopter-speed issue happens once, you always have this “I wonder if” feeling lurking in the back of your mind. Def unneeded stress when you’re out performing. I would in no way ever recommend these tables to anyone who is considering buying them. Personally, I would never buy another Rane product again. There is obviously an issue that is not being addressed. If I had the money, I would ditch them entirely for something else.

If it were to happen to me again I would probably sell them and go with Phase for my turntables. So far I've had no issues after switching to Chroma cables.
How long are using chroma cables now and how long there was no problem with the motor/helicopter move? And do still use your old MacBook. I have a 2019 model with 4 USB C and the latest version of Serato. I use an Anker Hub and 2 NEO by Oyaide d+ cable and one standard cable. Yesterday I had the same problem on both player.
yeah, that problem is called runaway. there's a guy i know that repairs technics and it happens to them too but very rarely and not sure how it's fixed if it's like a capcitor or resistor or some part of the electronics. but did you say you had the problem on the mk2 also? or just the mk1?
The first time it happened to me live, I was spinning at a club, and my only saving grace was it happened early. It started spinning out of control and I didn’t know what to do. I basically train wrecked a song on the other deck until I figured out what to do. The best solution I came up with is make sure your mixer is set up for instant doubles so you can quickly change to the other deck. If you are in the middle of a dmc type battle, and that happens, you are screwed!!!

I have experienced this several times and I do not know how to fix this... But on Sunday it happened to me 3 times on the playing deck while djing in front of a crowd... I will check the support if they can help me. Otherwise I will have to Change my djing system...
it happened to me last night my right deck was playing the song, and I was loading the left deck getting ready to get my cue point set it started spinning 100mph luckily I had time to turn the power off and turn back on and after that it didn't do it no more the rest of the night. This is the second time it has happened live so im not sure what causes I wish we could get a good cemented answer on this though but I appreciate ya video💯
I bought MK2. Regarding the sound quality of scratches, I feel that the sound of INT is strange. It's not the sound of a raw scratch. The discomfort becomes especially noticeable when you stop rotating and rub. Even in DVS mode, it feels inferior to PHASEDJ. Do you know if there is a way to improve it? The REV-7, which has the same INT, has better tracking and sound quality, but it doesn't feel strange at all.
@@logisticalstyles The phase sound is good. There is an error where the program starts automatically even though it is stopped at startup, but it is resolved by restarting. I look forward to updates. Unfortunately, there is no such firmware update for rane twelve.
Love your vids and appreciate u sharing the knowledge. Unfortunately, i’m working with mine only a few months, but none of this issues occurred. There’s a very little rare glitch I’m experiencing (again, rarely) but that’s another thing. I do highly recommend updating to the latest Serato version. With that being said, it might not solve the problem.
Its a Hardware problem. Rane recalled the first version because of that very problem. Didnt know the MKII still have the same issue. Also, Just a matter if time before the platters start wobbling. I regret buying those overpriced midi controllers.
not had a fast spin happen.Mine are quite new.I have the mk2s.So far my only issue is that they feel a little light compared to Technics as far as the motor and control discs are concerned.Im rather heavy handed and im thinking of adapting some old heavy pressed control vinyl so as to have a bit more weight.I guess in time i will get used to them anyway but other than that so far no problems.I will watch out for anything odd.

Interesting. I'm considering doing the same for a while. The Rane Seventy has Transport mode which allows you to work without decks connected. I may need to get comfortable with that mode.
I think this happens if you have the twelves plugged into a power bar and hard turning it off through there. When I started doing that that’s when 1 deck started having those motor issues .
@@logisticalstyles I've tried different cables, calibration, laptops, re-installed drivers, and Serato. Rane had a recall back in 2018 and does have a "Fix" it's a "Motor Firmware update" only done by Rane technicians.
Hey, i was looking for an small vinyl alternative. 2 turntables and djm S11 is to big to go on the road with it. I think for one turntable and phase system en djm S11 but the phase has sometimes connecting issue with serato.... I thought i take a digital vinyl system like The rane twelve and use instant doubles with my djm S11. But yesterday i find your issue... How is this problem solved ? Our is this not solved yet ?
I ended up selling both decks and getting a pair of Reloop 7000MKII with Phase. The spinning issue was getting more frequent. So far the Reloops and Phase have been working perfectly.
I use mine at home but I have my refurbished/custom like new 1200's in road cases ready to go at anytime. It's happen to me at home a couple of times. And now I have a motor problem with my left one. It won't calibrate and I hear a sound in the motor with the music down but not on my right one. I have the 2nd batch MKI. SMH
What kind of sound are you hearing? I would suggest removing the platter to make sure there isn't something underneath it. Does sound only happen when the platter is spinning?

I'll bring my outlet tester the next time I go there but I don't think that is the issue since it's happened at my house with the first Rane Twelve. It is definitely something to consider though.
I still have my Rane mk'1 once while I was live i just caught the platter did a quick back spin then dropped another song on the other deck I think the crowd knew something went wrong but I didn't miss a beat I'm lucky enough that that hasn't happened again, like you I haven't updated my serato software only time I update is if it has something to do with my rane system of 72 mixer and 12's Good luck hope that you stop having that issue
I just got a set of rane twelves but one of them has a noisy motor when running as if something is catching or rubbing inside, is there a way to dismantle the motor to clean it out
Did this to me yesterday and in the past. I have the first Rane 12s. It did it while i was streaming. I figured it out by pulling out the usb part from the mixer. Is there some kind of way to update them?
Honestly bro you should update your Serato if you are only on 2.5 or 2.5.1 2.5.5 has been solid for me. Also, try moving or deleting any custom midi mappings you may have in your _Serato_ folder to see if that helps. Also, check your system preferences to make sure your laptop isn't trying to go to sleep/screensaver and uncheck the box under energy saver that says "Put hard disks to sleep when possible" DM me if you need help.
I’m going to update my OS as well. For some reason I didn’t think my late 2013 MBP could take Big Sur but it is compatible. Once I update my OS then I’ll be updating Serato as well. I calibrated the pitch on both decks and took them out last night for a gig. I made it though a 4 hour set with no issues so I’m happy with that.
I still can’t explain it. So far after recalibrating the pitch on both decks and updating to the latest Serato version has worked for me but only time will tell.

Since I changed my USB cables I have not had any more issues. It's been a few months with lots of gigs since I switched to Chroma Cables from djtechtools.com. Everything is working well now.

When I bought my first 12 is was just after the recall for the motor issue... Was that the same kind of issue? Sounds similar in my memory. Luckily I've never had a problem. That one is the one with the power on the back. Also have the power underneath one mk1. Never had a problem before!! If I ever do I might switch to the series one...
I honestly don’t think it’s confined to one version. Both of mine have randomly done the same thing. Technically I’ve had 3 different units and they all have done this at one point or time. I love the Twelves but if this had happened to me at a wedding or another high profile event I would have ended up ditching them for a new pair of turntables.
By chance do you use sync? I have a pair of MK1 2019 models (power underneath) and this has happened more than a few times. I noticed that it would happen while I was using sync AND beat juggling. I only use sync if I’m doing quick mixes, and that seemed to be the common denominator to trigger the helicopter speed problem. It’s been a while since I’ve had that problem, because I don’t use sync any more. I’m definitely not sure if that’s the trigger, it’s just been my observation.
I do use Sync sometimes but not often. I use Simple Sync to lock the pitches together so that I can adjust both deck with only having to actually touch one deck. It is something to consider though.
I don't use sync and it happened to me on the MK1 in the middle of a live performance...I just got on the mic a said sorry for the technical problem and then dropped a song on the other deck and it didn't happen again the rest of the night...I think it has something to do with using the instant double

I replaced the USB cables about 4 months ago and they haven't had the issue come back again. I play out at least once a week so I think its safe to say the problem was fixed by replacing the cables.
I have a issues with it dragging at will.Rane will not fix it due to being out of warranty Dif not happy with them they sent me a list of 3rd party repair people most are in Canada I live and want it fixed in USA the repair company does not fix Rane just MPC or bad reviews with very long wait times. I've had my Technics 1210MK2 since 1983 and after Thousands of gigs in 38 years, I never had a problem......
Man I see you got the Rane 70. So much better than that Numark. I got a S11 also.

Unfortunately, there is no such firmware update for rane twelve.
Yeah make sure your update is compatible with your OS. I stopped at 2.4.6. Cause I have a older Mac

Because of the unreliability, during the wedding ceremony & reception intro I don't hook them up. I just use my s9 by itself until I'm ready to mix.

Not that I know of. I sold my Twelves last year after having repeated issues with them.

Yeah, it was rare but every once in a while my spindle would get tight. I would take the control disc off and put it on again then it would be ok.

When that happens slide the pitch control from top to bottom and it should reset itself …

My rane one has the same occasional hyper speed issue
It’s very annoying. I won’t use them during important dances at my wedding gigs.

I don't use sync and it happened to me on the MK1 in the middle of a live performance...I just got on the mic a said sorry for the technical problem and then dropped a song on the other deck and it didn't happen again the rest of the night...I think it has something to do with using the instant double

What about just using dvs mode/using rca on the mk2 does it do it?
I replaced the USB cables about 4 months ago and they haven't had the issue come back again. I play out at least once a week so I think its safe to say the problem was fixed by replacing the cables.
They cost to much money to be doing this I have the same problem!
Check for an interference issue
I have a issues with it dragging at will.Rane will not fix it due to being out of warranty Dif not happy with them they sent me a list of 3rd party repair people most are in Canada I live and want it fixed in USA the repair company does not fix Rane just MPC or bad reviews with very long wait times. Can someone refer me to a good repair company here in USA that good Please been dealing with my issue since 6/2024!
