  • After camping at Aire West Camp Ground on the Aire inlet, the last day of the trip starts with a few of the guys exploring the inlet and beach area while Troopy Matt and I try and get our vehicles ready for the trip home.
A quick visit to the Californian Redwoods in the Otways and a stop over in Colac for both fuel and a lifeline for the 76, sees Troopy Matt and I hitting the road for the 400km journey home.
Full explanation right at the end of the video.

Thanks mate, we've got some great stuff in the editing bin still coming. Thanks as always for watching and commenting.
Could not believe the 76 kept driving with battery voltage under 6v. The paj ECU would have shut it down well before then. Well it did on the border track a couple of years ago.

Thanks Jason on organising this trip, appreciate your hard work, I had a great time.
Nice to see you had the endurance to work through the 12v issue in a relaxed way and still getting the job done.
chainsaw at the redwoods , 😂. sorry buddy, I’m a dick sometimes. Perhaps when I get a little older, I’ll become more mature.

I had the opposite issue with mine.
Dealer told me at the last service that the battery was on the way out so I hunted up a Century 4wd cranking/cycling HD battery to replace it although the vehicle was starting fine and not having issues.
When the new battery turned up I had a mechanic mate fit the new one and tested the old one which seemed fine so now I have 2 batteries. Doh.
I do have to say that the more I see of some of these fancy 12v dual battery systems and the issues they can have the happier I am that I have kept my setup very simple. Good quality esky, LED lights and a few electronics run off phone battery banks and charged via the vehicle or a small folding solar cell.
I can also take everything out at the end of a trip so the vehicle can be used for other things and I'm not carting around all that weight the whole time.
At some point I may invest in one of those all in one battery pack things and maybe even a very small fridge to keep some stuff frozen but it will be extremely simple.
I can only imagine what some folks are spending setting up these systems or paying auto elecs. to find and fix issues.

Definitely can get expensive when you go for complicated setups. In the paj I ran a simple companion power station and so far in the 76 just a 100Ah AGM under the bonnet. Definitely value in keeping it simple if you can.
      Thanks for watching and commenting!

@@OffTheBeatenPathAus Yeah the all in one solutions are getting cheaper and more useful all the time so it will be interesting to see where they go next.
I like the idea of being able to take it out and use in in the house if the power goes down but the big ones are still expensive and heavy.
      Thanks for the video.

Definitely. The companion I had in the Paj was 40Ah more than enough to run my fridge and a few lights, picked it up for about $600 also had a few USB ports to charge camera batteries etc. And yes, zero install cost. :-)

You can't seem to do that track without some sort of issues lmfao. Love the Koala's mate, one animal I have not see in the wild yet, I got up close & personal with a Black Snake on Friday during a walk. Great video mate and looks like it would be a really interesting drive, I do hope to do it one day and maybe I will be able to do it without problems lol.

Thx yeah it was an amazing trip. Bit of a challenge nursing the car through the last couple of days with the battery/alternator issues. Was an odd feeling driving and having no speedo or tacho due to the low power available, was also losing speed up hills as the fuel pump wasn't getting enough power either, just before I got to the servo at Colac...

@@OffTheBeatenPathAus Lucky you made it there mate and yeah driving with no gauges would be an interesting experience.

certainly was, couldn't believe literally rolled into the servo at Colac. Another 10min on the jumpers to Luca's Patrol enough juice to drive into town to supercheap and get a new battery
