2023 Subaru WRX GT POV Drive! Living with the Subaru Performance Transmission!

- After spending a week with the 2023 WRX GT, here in a flashy ignition red, I’ve developed a love-hate relationship. Is the manual more engaging to drive? Yes. But this Subaru Performance Transmission combined with the many customizable drive modes, incredible steering rack, adaptive damper, and well trimmed interior (for a WRX), it makes a unique name for itself, especially for those who want a solid, sporty daily. (Especially where there’s lots of traffic) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🏁 @Alllcarnews Spec sheet: Under the hood is a 2.4L Turbocharged flat 4 making 271HP and 258 lb-ft of torque (349NM) to all four wheels, here through the new Subaru Performance CVT with an external transmission cooler and 8 speed manual mode. 🏁 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Highs:
-The powertrain and chassis is shockingly good. Acceleration is peppy enough and the quick & precise steering rack is incredibly engaging.
-The adaptive dampers are WONDERFUL, as are the endless customizable drive modes which unfortunately are both ONLY on the GT trim.
-The “SPT” was a stand out shocker to me. If you didn’t know it was a CVT, you likely may never realize. Simulated shifts are quick and crisp, sportier modes hold revs high.. though the manual still is more fun.
Lows:
-For nearly $44k and even with the suede inserts, the interior still feels economy. Road and wind noise is excessive, the infotainment system is frankly clumsy for 2023, and while nice looking, the Recaro seats are too firm and tight for daily use.
-Subaru’s reluctance to put the adaptive dampers on manual cars is frustrating.
-While having subaru Eyesight is a nice feature for longer trips, constant beeps and the inability to disable most of them hampers the experience.

I don't get why some people don't like the body cladding ; it doesn't look that bad, and it's still a great car. BTW, that was a nice ride, and thanks for the video. 🙂
We agree! Thanks!
i can see why they did it, my 2007 wrx has naked front fenders and rock chips chip the paint and rusts the fender quick, i like the function over form
i like it actually. it makes the car stand out from others and adds to the rally heritage. its Mad Max-y
The cladding would make more sense if it still looked like a rally car instead of a grocery getter.
I love my rally blue pearl GT. Great car
I got a 22 white GT I’m up to 17.0 lbs of boost and it holds it very well
I've got a TS (GT equivalent in aus without recaros luckily as theyre uncomfortable in long drives) and my only gripe is that I can't get rid of the wheel gap with lowering springs cause im worried about the issues it might cause with the adaptive suspension
Ah interesting didn’t think about that with the adaptive. i think it should be ok? i’ve seen other lower springs on more expensive cars work fine with those systems
How are the Recaro seats on this? I hear people saying they are both comfortable and uncomfortable.
The materials and visual appearence of them are fantastic. I just found them very uncomfortable in daily use. I’ve been in a various amount of sporty vehicles with fantastic bolsters, but these are too stiff, too narrow, and just not suited for everyone.
is this car worth buying if u just go to work and back ? mabye just drive it more on a weekend ? is it worth the gas mileage?
Well... Can it make classic subaru rumble sound if modified? Back of the car looks like Fiat Tipo or Open Insignia, same thing as new BRZ. And really I love Subaru but i can't forgive them that they won't produce STI anymore...
honestly it probably can. the exhaust drone already sounds like it 😂
IMO, the design of this car is strongest in the front and weakens as it makes its way to the rear. I've mostly adjusted to the appearance of this new generation but definitely not the cladding. I just traded in my 2017 WRX and left the Subaru fold. But it will be interesting to see what the WRX looks like in a few more years. I hppe it's still around, even if they turn it into an EV like I suspect they might do if they bring back the STI.
Are WRX built for longevity like other subaru models? Ive had my crosstrek for 180k miles and no issues.
No but I had my 2018 wrx with 120,000 no issues
I don’t think you can get the GT model in a 6 speed manual. It only comes with the CVT.
Yes… that’s what i explains in my video, and the description…. if you watched it
how do you like the HK stereos
Not crazy good. Just average.
Can you use unleaded or is it special premium gas?
The engine is designed to operate using unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 91 or higher.” However, fuel with an octane rating of 87 or higher can be used with no detriment to engine durability.
@@Allcarnews oh that’s cool! Thanks for the info!
which better CVT or Manual?
Depends what you want.
@@Allcarnews which faster?
@2JZ-it8ug Manual
IT's CVT ? not shifting like a Toyota 6-speed transmission
Looks a bit like a civic, basically looks like an economy car, I am a fan of the hatchback sti from way back, if I got one it would be my daily driver/ economy car, depending how expensive it is, I really just want an all wheel drive car for traveling in the winter and something sporty, my truck sucks the gas too much to be a daily driver.
The dumbest thing I've ever seen is the new Nissan Z Nismo only coming with an automatic
let’s hope it’s not true 😭
Who gets this car in automatic?
Shockingly a lot of people
Ah old guy with a bad knee from pushing a clutch for too many years, but still wants a fun ride.
I'm 6'4'' and the visibilty in this subaru is the best with out getting a mom car forester. The seat in the wrx goes low enough I can see, has harmon kardon sound system and drives well. It seems like the best subaru option for me strictly from a visibilty stand point.
Those who lives in the city with heavy traffic jam
Nice contents, but i need to quickly stopped watching. Head mounted camera is just bad, causing nausea at it moves. Sorry!
Where would you like me to mount it? I could bite it
