iam a self taught guitarist by watching random videos. I wish I had these 5 years ago. I never used metronome just learnt a lot of songs from letsplayguitar . I am really grateful for finding this. I realised I do not know counting and mess up hard strumming patterns. Things are really worse. Only if i had known this, things would have been very different. No one ever teaches this. thank you for this. I'm very grateful. I don't usually comment but this is coming from my heart. I swear I'll buy your course some day once I start earning
Without a doubt the best lesson on TH-cam . It's basically 6-8 paid sessions compacted into an hour of easy to follow theory and practice. Thanks so much
As a drummer and budding guitar player, I can say this is spot on training for learning to strum well. It is foundational to do it all in time to your foot, click, backing track or drummer. The right hand fluidity of motion is what makes the music sound musical. You're comment on how many beginners struggle with this one aspect is true. For some reason it is either not taught well or just skipped over hoping it comes by some magic but the best way as you showed here is to eliminate most of the left hands work and focus on the right hand motion and counting with all those patterns as exercises. Then it will all start to fall into place. One other thing I'll add is that it is not necessary or even desirable to play all strings on the upstroke. Only strike the first 2 or 3 strings only on the up strokes. Very well explained in this one hour lesson.
This by far is the BEST tutorial for beginners. These guys deserve a Grammy for teaching future music icons who happened to catch this video and absorbed a ton of knowledge. Thank you for putting this up for everyone to see and learn. Keep up the good work!
First of all, thank you for by far the best guitar learning videos!!! My playing went forward and it's the first time ever that I'm actually playing the guitar. I am 40 years old now and for about 15 years I have been trying to get an answer to that very clear and yet difficult question, how to play the guitar? I have read thousands and watched thousands of videos, books, etc. Unbelievable video, you almost already have art. Let's play. I almost forgot, 10years learning, in one night
Just start playing guitar at 50 and came across with this video and definitely the best I’ve ever seen and the most comprehensive and I’m a slow learner Thanks very much
I wished Move Forward Guitar still uploaded his videos. They're so much in-depth and I can just imagine how much work they put into making these videos. Thank you so much
I appreciate the attention and effort you put in your strumming lesson. I woke at 2:30 am and couldn't sleep. I thought of listening to something on TH-cam and your video was the first thing I saw. I started to listen and did until it ended. Most of the time I was looking at the drawings to better understand. Thank you for awakening in me the desire to continue striving to learn how to play the guitar.
This was a great lesson! I am self taught at guitar and the first strumming pattern I learned became sorta engrained as my “go-to” no matter what I play, so a lot of my stuff ended up sounding the same no matter what progression I made. Amazing lesson!
Even thriller movies I watched by skipping. But this 1:01:16 length..those who are eager to know will not skipp.. Thankyou bro. I hope you explain all the timings and meters this way..💕💕💕😍
I m 43 years old, just bought my first guitar and started learning on my own. Its been a few weeks now. I don't know if these chords are so common or you chose them "randomly", but they are the 4 chords from Alice in chains, nutshell, which inspired me to start learning guitar and the first song i try to learn.
This was such an EXCELLENT video. So worth sitting through it all the way through. I created a backing track in Garageband (basic 1 bar drum pattern that loops) and it's now my practice track. I find it so much better than a metronome. Confession: I find up-strums very difficult! Can't seem to get a hang of it.. but I'm not giving up. :)
A fantastic guitar lesson with lots great extras all neat and tidy and easy to understand, the best on the whole internet in my opinion and I’ve seen hundreds. Thank you so much. 🎶
This is the best beginner strumming tutorial I've seen yet. I went through the whole thing, and the patterns in the end sound really great. Thanks a lot !
Such a fabulous lesson.. it always frustrates me when i see people not teach the rhythm behind the strumming and just randomly talking about up and down strokes...
It’s always a great time learning from this guy. So easy to comprehend, I’ve bought some of his courses already and I try to watch the ads to help him. Thank you so much!
i would fcking love to be able to buy something from him just to support this insanely great work thats here FOR FREE but his website has expired and he seems to be gone :(
Great video .... never seen this before slow and precise ... and true as per theory.. , now a can start imagining how different strumming patterns came from .., How the other time signature works? thank you for this video.!
So cool I learned how to use and understand Metrodome finally and rhythm also I think this year that I’m going to get better on the guitar. I’ve been practicing for 12 years and I haven’t even got anywhere near what I did tonight. Thanks. I’m 76 and feel so good what I learned.😊
I strongly recommend that you get the Move Forward beginner and intermediate guitar courses which both courses have progressive 3 levels to work through and become a more competent guitar player.Chad Lambert is an excellent teacher of these courses and will give you full support by email, if you don’t understand anything. There are is music theory levels 1-4 which are very informative.
Thank you for this lesson. As I am absolute beginner and was struggling with strumming. It helped me to play my first strumming in rhythm. Keep making such informative helpful content for us. Thanks again for this.👍👍🙏🏻
Thank you for your video. You helped me with everything I wanted and needed to know. I understand keeping Time now. I understand the measurement of time now. And I understand strumming rhythms now. I am very grateful for watching your video. And I am looking forward to seeing your other videos. Thank you sincerely for your time and for helping everyone. You express everything very well. I hope you have a great day. Popo.
Woa treasure!! I always wanted to learn how to strum off-beat and things but due to the lack of beat background so i cannot improvise enough!!! THANK YOU!!
One thing I realized recently is that complex strumming patterns are extremely difficult to sing over! It's hard to keep those two rhythms (hands and mouth) going independently. If you have any tips on that let me know!

Speaking for myself of all the great guitar tutorials on TH-cam , the lessons on the channel are real instruction without a sales pitch.

Yes, really good stuff. Some of it might seem obvious, but for a beginner, this is pulling back the veil and revealing the new world
Looking forward to learn
I have been watching different videos but none is like this. The best teacher ever very articulate and makes every step easy to learn and understand.
One of the most complete videos on TH-cam 👍. Thank you for taking time to share it with everyone 🙏
Thank you so much for this lesson, I was looking for something like this how to count and strum when you skip the down strokes. Thanks again🙏
This is what I've been looking for in a strumming lesson. Thank You for your hard work in putting this video together.
