- How to make your strumming patterns sound better ✅ Check out Lauren’s Guitar Strumming Course: laurenbateman.mykajabi.com/of... - In this guitar strumming lesson, I’m going to go over cool ways to make your strumming patterns sound better when you play them. This lesson will be focused on strumming dynamics and strumming accents as a way of making the same exact guitar strumming pattern sounding better and cooler than the original.
The number one questions I get asked by students is, "Why does my strumming sound bad?" "Why does your guitar always sound better than mine?"
I will be sharing a couple of simple tips but also showing you many strumming pattern examples as ideas to expand your rhythm guitar playing. Students often ask me why my strumming patterns sound better than theirs even when they are playing the same exact thing.
We are going to go over that in this guitar strumming lesson. I don’t know if I would consider this a beginner guitar strumming lesson, but maybe more of a late beginner guitar strumming lesson. So if you just got started with playing the guitar, this lesson may not be the best lesson on guitar strumming patterns. I recommend you watch the beginner guitar strumming patterns video instead: • EASY Beginner Guitar S...

Thank you
Wish I could afford it. I love your spirit, ideas and knowledge. Thank you for this video. Beginner guitar player here. A terrible one at that! lol
Ms. Lauren,
In your style of strumming, the lightness sound like the intro to the song "San Francisco" by Scott Mckenzie. It's a very smooth strum. Btw, love learning from you, even if just on video. Would love to take actual lessons. I'm a paralyzed Disabled Veteran trying to get back out there, taking up music and playing along the way. Currently starting at Guitar Center this week but I seem to respond better taking lessons or even school from females. Myself, a girl playing guitar is freaking HOT! LOL! Thank you for your time and hope my message gets to you,,,

Accents are great, and syncopation helps too.
I'm nearly 60, I picked up a guitar for the first time a month ago and my strumming has really progressed thanks to you! I can't stop smiling! My chord progression needs a little work though! Thanks so much for this tutorial!
That's awesome!
I’m 40 just starting learning. It’s awesome!
So cool I played when I was younger and too busy. I picked mine back up and its so cool that the videos are so easy to learn. How wonderful. Have fun.
Yesterday was my 78th birthday. I've been learning and playing guitar on and off without success.
I was a computer coder and I was very good at that.
I'm 60, yeah I hate that number like bad. But I grew up with a headset on since I was 8 years old in the very late 60s. So much love music, just never had the discipline to play. I'm going to try this video alone, just try to get some strumming going and get my fingers working. My goal has been 10 minutes a day, quite reasonable, and I haven't even been able to do that. Oh well maybe inspiration this time will work
I’ve been looking at guitar instructors for the last few years and trust me Lauren Bateman is the only one that is certified to teach and I guarantee success! She is the best! No if Ann’s or butts. And thank you from the bottom of my heart sweetie! For being a real guitar Teacher. For some reason the guy instructors all they wanna do is sing badly.
You're so welcome!!!
Another great lesson and a perfect way to start my day! Thanks so much!
Once again, glad to help you. Enjoy your day.
I simply commend your passion in how you share your knowledge. Nicely done Lauren!
Thank you so much 😊
Hey Roh,.She's simply a for-real lady. Ya gotta love that! Or you're beyond repair. JMO. Best guitar teacher out there, me thinks. A tip: Record yourself, play it back, and just listen. You'll hear what other folks hear. Might not be what you thought it was? That happened to me. So I fixed it.
Great lesson and I really enjoy your energy in giving them. It's very inspiring
Aww thanks Stew!

Been surfing around TH-cam since Covid struck and have watched various tutorials. I was at a standstill until I started watching yours. Teaching is not only having the knowledge but the ability to impart it and at that you excel.
Glad I could help!
Best teaching I’ve ever been part of. thank you so very very,,, very much.
Wow, thank you
Great video! Very helpful and right to the point. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank You Lauren for sharing those interesting and useful tips for good strumming. Must try to work on it. 🙏
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much for all these great tips! I'm in the process of learning the guitar and I seem to be struggling with the strumming. I've watch multiple video's on here but you have really helped me with these to break these down and simplify them. I'm definitely going to check out your channel!
Thanks Paula 😃
Hell, everyday life's a struggle! So is strumming for a lot of us. Lauren's a natural teacher. Stick with her and you'll get better, asap. Some things I know. Have a neat Christmas.
Hey Faith. I'm an old guitar "picker". Albeit, a bad one. Lauren has helped me so much that I've just added a youtube channel that I'll be singing and playing on soon. Listen to this lady. She's so good it almost hurts! LOL
If you can hear it and feel it, and you want to play it badly enough, eventually you will. Practice, practice and then practice some more.
Thanks.. I appreciate the way you use your voice to help orient the strum pattern. So many internet teachers either can't or don't sing along. I find it extremely helpful to hear the tones and the sound of the melody as you work on mechanics.... it helps me feel more musical less mechanical... if that makes any sense. subscribed!
You're welcome and thanks for subscribing!
I love it. Easy to learn. Very effective. Thank so much.
You're very welcome!
Totally love this session! Thanks for posting👊🏽
You're welcome!
Wow, this is one of the most difficult things to explain so fluidly and simply...and while I'm self-taught, this was extremely helpful and never seen this level of easy explanation on such a critical and yet complicated thing to get across. Thank you for your sharing your knowledge with the world.
Tony, you're so welcome. Glad that my teaching style works well for you. ☺️

Hi Lauren! I am a 67-year old Filipina and really a first-timer. I decided to learn playing guitar because of this boring pandemic. Your video helps me a lot. Thank you so much! Although I still have a long, long way to go😄😄😄
Best of luck! You got this! 😄
Very helpful, thanks. I have been playing around with some of this stuff but not as organized as you are showing here so although my strumming is not monotonous my playing got out of time quickly.
Take your time and work with a metronome
This was really helpful. Thank you so much.
Glad it was helpful!
Lauren, you're a good teacher, I love your teaching method so easy to understand, no confusion, just can practice straight away. Keep it up, your followers and subscribers will never get frustrated. Thank you.

This was so helpful for me! Easier than I thought to do after watching you. Best advice to relax my strumming hand! Thank you!!!
Glad it helped!
15:32 first saw a guitar at age 5 it was so big I couldn't reach the strings . I took lessons when I was 12 or 13 but was more interested in working on my go-kart. I learned all those chords though. All through school and the Marine corps I still didn't practice didn't have a guitar. Add three great boys and a great wife but still no guitar. I was at work one day helping Mr Cho do some home improvements at a house. There was nothing in the house it was all piled up in the garage but in a closet in the kitchen there was a guitar, I asked Mr cho if I could have it and he said yes all them chords came back to me after I got it tuned up but could never play any songs I didn't know how thanks to you Lauren you gave me new purpose I know I have two guitars😅❤🎉 thank you
Awww so happy to help you find your purpose with guitar again!

Hello Mary. How are you doing?
I just paused before you finish all 7 strum patterns, to comment, like and subscribe. You've really helped me. Good teacher, cool voice and you really qualify to do this.
Awesome! Thank you!
Now I know how I can dive into the rhythm more naturally instead of just playing in a robotic way. Excellent video. Thank you ❣

Glad it helped!
Lauren needs to learn how to sleep. IMO. She's so awesome as a teacher that she's almost scary. I now go to bed every night a little frightened but also a little happier with myself, because I can play a little better on my old, cheap guitar. Thanks Lady.
This is perfect, I've been doing to many melodies and not strumming enough and this is exactly what I needed. thank you
Glad I could help!

Fantastic to see encouragement for young and older one's, who won't always feel old but, need loosening up (just like anyone else)! Lauren is a very pleasant teacher. A diamond!
Thank you so much Marion
Hey Marion. Lauren's a natural teacher. Her unselfish contributions of her talents to us old folks (I'm older than you, I bet?) is invaluable. She's way better than diamonds, IMO.
Agreed, there's something about this lady I can't put my finger on but it's good, whatever it is. Makes me WANT to learn from her. Lovely voice too.
👏👏👏❤️ You make it so fun and easy for a beginner like myself !
Thank you! 😊
Blessed love & Thanks for your fantastic teaching Lauren !!Im becoming better and better because of YOU. Anneli from sweden
Great job! Anneli 😀
Thank you so much, I've learned a lot
Glad it was helpful!
Lauren…. You’re a natural !! I’ve been playing guitar over 50 years using the same old strumming patterns. I’ve always wanted to add more techniques and here in this video, you’ve magically taught them all - Relaxing wrist
Accents
Karate Chops (!)
Crescendo
I’m so eager to put all these to practice 👍♥️👍
Wow, thank you! Glad to help!
Hi Lily. "Natural" nails it! One never imagined that somebody would arrive here (this planet) with so much teaching talent, but she did. Thank your God! If you have one? I've learned so much from this lady that I just joined youtube. Not quite good enough yet to start playing & singing there, but I will soon. Assuming I live that long? LOL
I'll be 80 next month. Yikes! If I can just keep my fingers and voice working for a little while longer. Reck'n we'll see? Merry Christmas.
Hi, I just started playing guitar last year. I practice almost everyday depends on the song I want to learn. I always find time to play the guitar even if it is just 15 mins. So far I have already been able to play a lot of songs. Now I'm practicing on learning strumming technique by my own by listening to the song. I want to try making my own strumming pattern so that I will not depend so much on tutorials because not all songs have a tutorial on youtube. This video helps a lot. Thank you. :)
That makes me so happy that my lessons helped you.
This one is very helpful ...Thank you
You're welcome 😊
This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you! Subscribed!
Thanks for the sub!
Wow! Very clear tutorial and straight to the point, with clear illustrate too. Came from recommend to see if I can learn something new, will definitely recommend this to new guitar players because this is the most definitive strumming tutorial I've ever seen.
Thank you so much 😀

Thanks for this post! Grateful for TH-cam!
You're welcome!
Thank you so much, for all these great tips
Happy to help!
Great lesson, Lauren! I appreciate the way you pack each lesson with helpful instructions and challenges to improve my guitar playing. I'm getting my money's worth from your 7-level course and having fun too!
Awesome!
There's currently no better teacher of this stuff, and probably never will be. IMO. And she requires no sleep, like the rest of us do. Don't know how she does that? Perhaps just lots of practice?
Killer I just bought a guitar yesterday... I've never played but I love how you simplify it for people like me I hope to be able to just feel the vibes and I think you can help... much appreciated
Happy to help!
Been watching your videos and subscribed. Never liked to watch instructors talk about strumming patterns but really like the way you teach. Straight forward and interesting. Will be watching lots more and recommending your channel to others. Thanks.
Awww thank you!!! Appreciate that.
As a beginner guitar player, I am really enjoying your videos and teaching style. You make it so much fun to practice while giving great tips. Thank you.
Hi Lauren! I'm very happy I have just now found you! I've been so many years playing guitar without being able to do that, but just for my fun, and this is also the reason why more than once I gave up playing and even gave away my guitar!
Recently I learnt my first serious Strumming pattern (WAW! 😃), but, you're right, I fear to go out from that pattern while I'm playing a Song, even though I feel like making some small chance according to my feeling, to my mood.
It must require much expertise to combine the two things, mustn't it?
Thank you so much!
I'll follow you. Bye! ☺️
Thank you for watching!
