Ms. Lauren, In your style of strumming, the lightness sound like the intro to the song "San Francisco" by Scott Mckenzie. It's a very smooth strum. Btw, love learning from you, even if just on video. Would love to take actual lessons. I'm a paralyzed Disabled Veteran trying to get back out there, taking up music and playing along the way. Currently starting at Guitar Center this week but I seem to respond better taking lessons or even school from females. Myself, a girl playing guitar is freaking HOT! LOL! Thank you for your time and hope my message gets to you,,, Wayne A Caddell Jr
I'm nearly 60, I picked up a guitar for the first time a month ago and my strumming has really progressed thanks to you! I can't stop smiling! My chord progression needs a little work though! Thanks so much for this tutorial!
I'm 60, yeah I hate that number like bad. But I grew up with a headset on since I was 8 years old in the very late 60s. So much love music, just never had the discipline to play. I'm going to try this video alone, just try to get some strumming going and get my fingers working. My goal has been 10 minutes a day, quite reasonable, and I haven't even been able to do that. Oh well maybe inspiration this time will work
Lauren , I have been taking guitar lessons for 2 years . This is what I have been wanting to learn but didn’t know how to explain to my teacher! I appreciate this so much! This lesson was so interesting and inspiring! Thank you!!
Something new today dexterity, thin pick for strumming, using the carrot, and karate chop to the sound board, and placement of our fingers on 5678 spider practice . Thanks again!!!!!
15:32 first saw a guitar at age 5 it was so big I couldn't reach the strings . I took lessons when I was 12 or 13 but was more interested in working on my go-kart. I learned all those chords though. All through school and the Marine corps I still didn't practice didn't have a guitar. Add three great boys and a great wife but still no guitar. I was at work one day helping Mr Cho do some home improvements at a house. There was nothing in the house it was all piled up in the garage but in a closet in the kitchen there was a guitar, I asked Mr cho if I could have it and he said yes all them chords came back to me after I got it tuned up but could never play any songs I didn't know how thanks to you Lauren you gave me new purpose I know I have two guitars😅❤🎉 thank you
similar story, learnt as kid never picked it up for years then I did. You dont forget the basics the rest I am still working thru, but got comfortable with very mediocre for a while, dunno why, but today decided it was time to improve. And hey presto, the teacher appeared. I have other tutors i subbed to but could not really follow or take it in, not sure honestly if i just was not really interested at the time, but this teacher getting thru. Cool
Lauren, As a blind person, listening to you, you have open the my music experience a lot, definitely want to give you a tip, when you’re doing your tutorials, please keep this in back of your mind, that you might have blind individuals listening to your tutorials, and I would appreciate, when you wanna let everybody know about accord, please give us the correct fingering for each cord when you do that, you are doing it now, so keep up the good work love your videos. Hi Moises, yes these lessons show a diagram on screen. Many of my lessons I make the assumption that you know the chords. If you need specific finger placement instructions, I would highly recommend watching all of my chord videos. I go step by step in those lessons. Will give you a big advantage.
@@LaurenBateman I do know most of the chords, like majors chords, minor chords, pentatonic scale, minor scale, major scale,. But most definitely, I’m going to go back and look at those videos that you recommended, just in case I’m not missing something, I will look into that. Right now I’m trying to learn some fillings, going from one cord to the other, and I’m going to see if you have any tutorials on that, I really appreciate thank you for responding to my message, and thank you my name is Moses for Northern California barrier thank you Lauren.
Hi Lauren! I am a 67-year old Filipina and really a first-timer. I decided to learn playing guitar because of this boring pandemic. Your video helps me a lot. Thank you so much! Although I still have a long, long way to go😄😄😄
I’ve been looking at guitar instructors for the last few years and trust me Lauren Bateman is the only one that is certified to teach and I guarantee success! She is the best! No if Ann’s or butts. And thank you from the bottom of my heart sweetie! For being a real guitar Teacher. For some reason the guy instructors all they wanna do is sing badly.
Just picking up guitar...lots of artist showing chords and tabs, but your strumming patterns are a game changer for me. Its like night and day in just the past 1.5 hours...thanks
I've played for 35 years and stubbled on this video. GREAT... Yes it's all true and it makes me pause and think about my dynamics and accents in my playing. May need some work :-)
I am learning guitar for 1 month. I like your tutorials. And also....you are just so beautiful. Natural look. No make up. Straight haïr. You are a beauty to my eyes. Thanks from Canada
Fantastic to see encouragement for young and older one's, who won't always feel old but, need loosening up (just like anyone else)! Lauren is a very pleasant teacher. A diamond!
Hey Marion. Lauren's a natural teacher. Her unselfish contributions of her talents to us old folks (I'm older than you, I bet?) is invaluable. She's way better than diamonds, IMO.
I’m 51 and started looking at the multiple teacher videos to learn how to play. I must say that I am enjoying your technique the best for me so far. Thank you very much for what you are doing. I must add, your voice is a lot more pleasant as well. 🤪

Hi Lily. "Natural" nails it! One never imagined that somebody would arrive here (this planet) with so much teaching talent, but she did. Thank your God! If you have one? I've learned so much from this lady that I just joined youtube. Not quite good enough yet to start playing & singing there, but I will soon. Assuming I live that long? LOL I'll be 80 next month. Wow, this is one of the most difficult things to explain so fluidly and simply...and while I'm self-taught, this was extremely helpful and never seen this level of easy explanation on such a critical and yet complicated thing to get across. Thank you for your sharing your knowledge with the world.
Hey Lauren. I don't know if you've read my posting about buying your strumming course next month, but I will. A lot of us old folks will be getting a 5.9% increase in our total monthly income, starting that month. Yippee! Beats no increase all to hell. And It will be totally cool having you available to teach me (and my little buddy) at any time of my choosing and more importantly, eliminate those pesky ads that routinely interrupt your "free" lessons via youtube. Been surfing around TH-cam since Covid struck and have watched various tutorials. I was at a standstill until I started watching yours. Teaching is not only having the knowledge but the ability to impart it and at that you excel.
You are a good teacher.. inspiring.. i am 40 bought a guitar 17yrs back and hardly learnt it. I finally took it out from hiding and trying to play again.. thanks to u i am getting it a little bit now :)

Hi Lauren, I have never played a guitar in my life but always had the desire to learn. 2 years ago I took a Guitar for Vets crs for 3 months and was more confused at the end then when I started! I came across your page on TH-cam and have learned and made more progress in 2 weeks then I did in that whole G4V crs. Although I appreciated their time and effort, not all teachers are created. Equal, I love the way you teach, how simple you help a novice pick it up. I watch your video everyday and practice at least 30min a day, feel very confident I will soon be able to play my 1st ever love song to my wife on our 47 anniversary, just 6 months away. God bless you dear for sharing your gift with the world!
Killer I just bought a guitar yesterday... I've never played but I love how you simplify it for people like me I hope to be able to just feel the vibes and I think you can help... much appreciated
Lauren I never knew that there was so much of expression I could give in strumming patterns. However ,practice makes it perfect. I like to sing worship songs. I know that God will be pleased when I can sing and strum along with beautiful rhythm Thanks so much for your strumming tips, and the way you presented was so impressive. I did not know earlier that it was not necessary to strum all the strings.I will look at your next video on strumming once I have mastered my strumming on this video. My best regards to you. God bless you. Hiram Peter.
I was struggling to learn the song Hallelujah, then I came across a lesson by Lauren. This was just recently and now I am definitely on my way to making this song sound very good. This video on strumming has done more for my guitar playing than anything in my six years of playing guitar.
I'm 62 and learned to play Classical guitar as a teenager. I haven't played for years and wanted to start playing folk music. Strumming not plucking. You make your tutorials so informative and easy to pick up. Thank you
Thank you, Lauren. Your tips on technique add a lot, and you explain and present them very well, instead of dry and we lose interest. You are one of my fav lessons on TH-cam, you add a lot. Thank you again, you do an awesome job.
Thank you. Its really helping. Some channels are so technical and male orientated. But I'm really reaping rewards from this. I like your style, not annoying or waffling or being too jokey... Thank you.
Hi, I just started playing guitar last year. I practice almost everyday depends on the song I want to learn. I always find time to play the guitar even if it is just 15 mins. So far I have already been able to play a lot of songs. Now I'm practicing on learning strumming technique by my own by listening to the song. I want to try making my own strumming pattern so that I will not depend so much on tutorials because not all songs have a tutorial on youtube. This video helps a lot. Thank you. :)
I consider myself a rhythm player, been doing so for YEARS. Your teaching techniques are excellent. I'll be sure to point beginner and inquisitive guitar players to your TH-cam videos. Great job! Consider me SUBSCRIBED :)
Lauren I have learned so much from you. You are my favorite you tube coach. I bought my guitar March 25th. I am enjoying it so much. I played with my church band yesterday. Thank you so much. Keep up the good work.
Hi Lauren! I'm very happy I have just now found you! I've been so many years playing guitar without being able to do that, but just for my fun, and this is also the reason why more than once I gave up playing and even gave away my guitar! Recently I learnt my first serious Strumming pattern (WAW! 😃), but, you're right, I fear to go out from that pattern while I'm playing a Song, even though I feel like making some small chance according to my feeling, to my mood. It must require much expertise to combine the two things, mustn't it? Thank you so much! I'll follow you. Bye! ☺️
you are such a good teacher... ma'am, god bless you for not BEING A HATER. I mean this and im dead serious because im a novice to guitar and i've been asking people who have been playing who i already envy for tips and tricks and demonstrations, seem like they dont want to. its like they learn it and they just want to keep it for themselves because only they want to be good and shine in making music. maybe to eliminate future competition (they've seen and heard me sing a little; 80s rock, country, alternative rock lol)... Your contents are gold and thanx so much for shearing your skills and knowledge. I join guitartricks, they never teach strumming, i cancelled, only you do, and i learn so quick from you. its my life long dream since my teens to learn guitar and maybe produce a song before i die (40 now), and i will not give up, and you're helping me so much... YOU ARE CHANGING LIVES, not only mine, im sure
I am so happy to help you. Yes, no room for haters. Everyone's journey is unique. You got this. It takes time but you will get there with practice. Happy to share my tips and tricks with you.
I’m really enjoying this strumming lesson. You are a joy to watch. As a beginner it’s so lovely to not be intimidated by a lesson. You are a fabulous teacher!
Got my son in electronic guitar last week. Now I'm inspired to start acoustic. Came to TH-cam for tips and tricks.. and YOU are the GOLDEN TICKET! 🎫! So UpBeAT, and very clear. You have wonderful teaching techniques! Thank you, keep up the great work! 👍
Lauren, you're a good teacher, I love your teaching method so easy to understand, no confusion, just can practice straight away. Keep it up, your followers and subscribers will never get frustrated. Thank you.
Lauren Bateman where have u been all my life so close to giving up trying to play and then I come across this Amazing thanks you so much made me pick the guitar up again 😃
First of all i'd like to say how much I love your style of teaching Guitar. I'm a 59 year old Lefty and have been trying to learn Guitar for over 5 years, recently I purchased a cheap 3/4 size Guitar re strung for lefy hand obviously but I have found this much much easier to play and my learning has doubled in weeks so just A note to anyone who is strugguling with A full size. and i'm not small at 5`11" so your size is not the issue...
Thank you SO MUCH. Basic stuff, but I had never heard it explained so well. I honestly never knew this stuff nearly as well until I watched your video. I’ve been playing for close to 20 years. I always felt like I was just making noise. Now I have hope! So grateful!
I just came across your videos of guitar learning especially as a beginner... I feel a great help to improve my guitar skills. Your instructions are so precise and easy to understand that I can flow with you. Thank you 😊
Wow Lauren..I bought a Les Paul electric guitar 2 weeks ago ... I had looked at many beginner guitar lessons on TH-cam and they have been hopeless , since I found you I am now getting it , playing open chords and using some of your strumming techniques ...thank you so much ...
@@LaurenBatemanGetting my little Vox Go 10 Amp next week so that should be fun ..there people who call themselves Teachers and then there are Good Teachers ..who explain things without going over peoples head , and confusing them .. who help people achieve their goal ....No doubt you have helped many people to enjoy and understand the guitar ...Thanks again, Lauren.. have a fab weekend ❤️🌷❤️
Thanks.. I appreciate the way you use your voice to help orient the strum pattern. So many internet teachers either can't or don't sing along. I find it extremely helpful to hear the tones and the sound of the melody as you work on mechanics.... it helps me feel more musical less mechanical... if that makes any sense. subscribed!
Hey you folks who utilize this tutorial. We're all aware and thankful for this lady's magic and awesome talent. Here's a tip I just discovered. PLAY ALONG WITH LAUREN AS SHE PLAYS! When you can do that you'll be amazed and happy with yourself because of how fast you're improving. Just listening won't get that done. JMO
Wooooooo.....u jst give so much positive vibes .....u r jst awsome....i reallyyy njoy ur vdos......n started taking interest in learning the guitar......
Very helpful, thanks. I have been playing around with some of this stuff but not as organized as you are showing here so although my strumming is not monotonous my playing got out of time quickly.
So i've spent a little time with this lesson and now got to the stage where i am combining strumming technique with simple chord changes.....excellent stuff
Thank you so so much for your strumming lessons. I first started playing the guitar in 2007. I don't really play allot. Through the years since 2007. I'd only pick it up here and there. Allot of it has to and has been mostly not have the opportunity or place to play. I've mostly only have had electric guitars. Everything I have learned over the years has been on TH-cam. I've never really got to work much on my strumming. I've watch allot of video on it and even figured I just try and learn a song to see if it would help. I'd say 70 to 80 percent of it is me of course of not really beable to practice. The other 30 percent is not havening a acoustic a place to play and finding lessons I click with. But about 2 weeks ago someone gave me a acoustic guitar. Then about a week ago I came across your video lessons. I practice every thing I've seen of yours so far at lease 20 to 30 minutes a day. You have help me come along ways on my strumming. Please please never stop your videos. I appreciate all your lessons. You simplify it so easily to follow along with and make it so interesting. Again thank you so so much.
Dave, thank you for sharing your story. I’m so happy to be helping you on your guitar journey. Keep up your practice and keep working on that strumming. Practice makes progress.
lauren I'm an absolute beginner . Has been learning to play chords for few weeks and I didn't know what to do with it. Now I get some mission :) thank you for this. :)
Hey good day, accidentally stumbled upon your channel today. Been a guitar player pretty much all my life. And what you are doing is great.! It is Great inspiration. Thank you so much for sharing that with us all. Keep up the goodness. Enjoy playing, stay well and have a beautiful day. Jim
As a music producer aiming to incorporate guitar into my sound, I spent the entire year of 2023 scouring the internet for guitar tutorials. However, upon discovering one of your tutorials, I immediately sensed that I had found the perfect resource to stick with. Your instructional approach is truly remarkable, catering to learners as if they are genuine beginners, making it incredibly easy to grasp the concepts. I am hopeful that I will be able to afford your lessons, as my guitar skills have significantly improved over the past three months thanks to your guidance. Thank you!
I was sitting here watching your strumming and recognized two songs, Who'll Stop the Rain and Proud Mary. I was singing the lyrics so I went to look it up and saw on your website that you have it and on TH-cam. I am proud of myself that I had good enough song memory recall to recognize the pattern for Who'll Stop The Rain, it is pattern 2....lol. Seriously, I recognized it before I looked it up, so that is a good testament that you play it so well that even in a tutorial not about the song, just the strumming, I knew it immediately. I think you are a good teacher because you can do that.

Joseph, wow, thank you for the kind comments. I would love to let Guitars 4 Vets use my program but not sure they want that.
Killer I just bought a guitar yesterday... I've never played but I love how you simplify it for people like me I hope to be able to just feel the vibes and I think you can help... much appreciated
Happy to help!
Lauren I never knew that there was so much of expression I could give in strumming patterns. However ,practice makes it perfect.
I like to sing worship songs.
I know that God will be pleased when I can sing and strum along with beautiful rhythm
Thanks so much for your strumming tips, and the way you presented was so impressive. I did not know earlier that it was not necessary to strum all the strings.I will look at your next video on strumming once I have mastered my strumming on this video.
My best regards to you. God bless you.
Hiram Peter.
You got this!
I was struggling to learn the song Hallelujah, then I came across a lesson by Lauren. This was just recently and now I am definitely on my way to making this song sound very good.
This video on strumming has done more for my guitar playing than anything in my six years of playing guitar.
Wonderful! Glad this lesson helped.
Stick with this lady, she's a natural teacher, and way above "awesome," me thinks. You probably already know that?
I'm 62 and learned to play Classical guitar as a teenager. I haven't played for years and wanted to start playing folk music. Strumming not plucking. You make your tutorials so informative and easy to pick up. Thank you
Tracy I am so happy to help you! ☺️
Thank you, Lauren. Your tips on technique add a lot, and you explain and present them very well, instead of dry and we lose interest. You are one of my fav lessons on TH-cam, you add a lot. Thank you again, you do an awesome job.
Happy to help!
Thank you. Its really helping. Some channels are so technical and male orientated. But I'm really reaping rewards from this. I like your style, not annoying or waffling or being too jokey... Thank you.
You're very welcome!
Thank you. :)
That makes me so happy that my lessons helped you.
THE FIRST TIP IMPROVED IT SO MUCH BETTER LOL
Glad it was helpful!
You fast-forwarded my 1 month progress in 15 mins. Thank you Ma'am for this lesson.
Wonderful! That makes me so happy that my lessons helped you.
Such a free-minded person this kinda person really teaches very well.👍👍👍👍👍❤❤❤❤
Aww thank you!
I consider myself a rhythm player, been doing so for YEARS. Your teaching techniques are excellent. I'll be sure to point beginner and inquisitive guitar players to your TH-cam videos. Great job! Consider me SUBSCRIBED :)
Hey Dan, , thank you so much for subscribing. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Hi Lauren, I'm 83 and just learning to play guitar......those strumming tips are so helpful.. thank you
You got this!
Love to see and learn rhythms as it is explained and presented in a very simple manner. Easy to learn.
Glad you liked it!
Soulfelt thanks madam because you liftup me to the footsteps of paradise. My Humble salutation more and more ...
Thank you 🙏🙏
Now I know how I can dive into the rhythm more naturally instead of just playing in a robotic way. Excellent video. Thank you ❣
You're welcome!
I’m 68 and am learning guitar and I love your strumming technique. Just awesome 👏
Awesome! Thank you!
Lauren I have learned so much from you. You are my favorite you tube coach. I bought my guitar March 25th. I am enjoying it so much. I played with my church band yesterday. Thank you so much. Keep up the good work.
Awww thanks!!! So happy to be helping you.
You have the ability to break strumming down to being easy to learn plus understand, thank you
Thank you very much!
Bye! ☺️
Thank you for watching!
Thanks for your nice teaching. God bless you
You're so welcome.
Omg Lauren, you have no idea how much this video helped me, thank you so much🥰, wishing you health and happiness always. Stay blessed
You’re welcome!
Hi ganda Naman Ng pag tuturo mo.
Luv ko din mg gitara Ms.Lauren💖💖💖💖💖💖
You're welcome I think 😎
You are such a wonderful teacher... basic, yet dynamic!!!
Thank you! 😃
you are such a good teacher... ma'am, god bless you for not BEING A HATER.
So glad to help.

Glad I could help!
I cannot describe how much this snare drum analogy has helped me. Omg you just put a peice of the puzzle together for me
You're so welcome!
Excellent teaching. 👍🏼 I've played for decades, I think I do all of this without realizing it but wouldn't know how to teach it. Great job!
You're very welcome!
Thanks for the insight Tony
Picked up guitar a year ago and I’m hooked!! Still working on transitions but getting better. This was so informative! Thanks!!!
You’re so welcome!
O am 52 years old and My guitar playing is improving......THANKS TO YOU,LAUREN
Glad to hear!
Thank you SO MUCH. Basic stuff, but I had never heard it explained so well. I honestly never knew this stuff nearly as well until I watched your video. I’ve been playing for close to 20 years. I always felt like I was just making noise. Now I have hope! So grateful!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for your patience.you are just awesome.
Thank you so much 😀
I just came across your videos of guitar learning especially as a beginner... I feel a great help to improve my guitar skills. Your instructions are so precise and easy to understand that I can flow with you. Thank you 😊
Great to hear!
Wow Lauren..I bought a Les Paul electric guitar 2 weeks ago ... I had looked at many beginner guitar lessons on TH-cam and they have been hopeless , since I found you I am now getting it , playing open chords and using some of your strumming techniques ...thank you so much ...
Lana that's so awesome!!
Learnt so much today on strumming patterns. You are a great teacher
Happy to hear that!
your video has really help me a lot......GREAT WORLD WIDE TEACHER......
Thank you! 😃
Thank you Lauren I manage to refresh my little knowledge in playing guitar. Love all your techniques.
Glad to hear that Annie.
This is the best guitar lesson that is so easy to follow and you can learn quickly
Thanks.. I appreciate the way you use your voice to help orient the strum pattern. So many internet teachers either can't or don't sing along. I find it extremely helpful to hear the tones and the sound of the melody as you work on mechanics.... it helps me feel more musical less mechanical... if that makes any sense. subscribed!
You're welcome and thanks for subscribing!
Brilliant Lauren loves your smile ... You make many people feel good about your empathy .W.B.T think you no what that means.😘🙏🎸👏
Janne you are so welcome. I'm glad that you find the lessons helpful. That's my job is to encourage people that this dream of theirs is possible.
JMO
Yes! Play along with me
Wooooooo.....u jst give so much positive vibes .....u r jst awsome....i reallyyy njoy ur vdos......n started taking interest in learning the guitar......
That's awesome. So happy for you.
Very helpful, thanks. I have been playing around with some of this stuff but not as organized as you are showing here so although my strumming is not monotonous my playing got out of time quickly.
Take your time and work with a metronome
So i've spent a little time with this lesson and now got to the stage where i am combining strumming technique with simple chord changes.....excellent stuff
Glad to hear!
Wow, loved it! Thanks for helping us add some life into our strumming.
Happy to help!
YES!! The karate chop is what was missing from my cover of “Stuck in the middle with you” 😊 Thank you!!
Rock on!
oh boy you really nailed this one! I really admire the expressions you get so naturally while explaining things. Really cool. Many thanks Lauren!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Night Moves is a great example!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you Lauren! So many questions answered with this video!
You're welcome!
That was such an enlightening lesson , I can sort of feel myself becoming less boring ! Many thanks.
Yes that's awesome!
You are allways cool
Very Nice Lesson Lauren,Good Job

I love it. Easy to learn. Very effective. Thank so much.
You're very welcome!
Thank you!
Thank you ver much! I'm really glad you liked it :D
Outstanding lesson Lauren. Thank you. Opened up a whole new world for me.
That's awesome Mike!
thanks, I'm 61 yo and paraplegic, but your strumming lesson is the best I've seen on YT. I can do it now :)
So happy to help. I'm glad it's working for you!
Thank you so much Lauren, this video really helped me get over the hump! You are an amazing instructor!
That's so kind of you
I was sitting here watching your strumming and recognized two songs, Who'll Stop the Rain and Proud Mary.
Aww thank you so much. Glad you found the lessons!
Definitely will put into practice, thanks for teaching practical and easy tips that make a huge difference 👍
You got it!
