Thanks for this video. I really liked the tip on using the masking tape on the top of the epoxy paint can. I will be using this one when I paint my Road Runner. Lots of good information. Only question was the lack of teflon tape on the fittings. Did you have air leaks at all?
Love the videos trying to start painting my project truck & questions i have some high build primer i got the ratio is 4:25:25. Is that the same thing is 4:1:1 ratio

Beest part is ware you show how to strip down the gun which is the most Important thing to keep trash out of a paint job. Ive found the best way is to run lacquer threw the gun after the job then before starting the next job take off the cap and the nossel and cleen both with a gue
You really should be wrapping the threads on your air fittings with Teflon tape and switch over to high flow couplers and quick connects from your compressor down to the spray gun, switch them all... doing this will give you a nice high volume of air for that gun that needs lots of air.
Excellent video sir. Does this epoxy has isocyanate in it activator? Also it says low VOC. How true is that? How is it holding so far? Does it need to be top coat it or not?
Not sure on the activator. I can't say how low the VOC is. I wear my respirator, and I leave after I spray. Seems to be doing ok. I did add high build primer.
I generally don't pour out of a paint can anymore. I use a cheap dollar store ladle to transfer paint to mixing cups. I also see you prefer black primer. Any reasoning for that? Black does always look good though. And PPS cups are awesome but pricey even if you get the knockoff versions.
Being epoxy, it really doesn't matter I guess. it will have a top coat. I typically use grey for that. A contrasting color lets you know you have good coverage. I agree on the PPS cups. It is what it is though.
@@JoDaddysGarage Same here on the contrasting colors makes life easier. PPS cups prices are high but it does beat cleaning paint cups and the time saved and chemicals not used might make up for it.
Hi. I have seen you use JP epoxy sealer before. I sprayed my bare metal car with it months ago. Starting sanding to prep for JP shop line primer. My 220 grit paper is gumming up. Do I need to wet sand?
Great videos and very informative. Is the Summit Racing epoxy primer compatible with other brands of primers and paints (ppg, sherwin williams, etc)? I don't know if the chemistry in the different manufacturers will be a problem. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.
Thinking about buying some of that epoxy is it any good? It’s cheaper then what I’m using just curious of your opinion compared to other epoxys like dp90 or axaltra
I don’t know the first thing about painting a car. What does drive me crazy is all the different primers and what order they are used in. I know this wasn’t the goal of this video, but when the sealer goes on is now a question in my mind.
Jo Daddy's Garage yep, I have a bunch of research to do. There are just too many different products or systems or whatever. I guess I need to just immerse myself in it. Thanks for the reply.
Good question. I think as long as you’re using the required grit it should be ok. The problem is continuously sanding as the paper wears out. That will make the metal “smoother” as well.
I was thinking of using this product Epoxy Primer as a sealer coat for the bare interior of my Chevelle after I remove all the surface rust, would this be a good idea, I would like to get the Summit Grey colored Epoxy Primer, and can this be the sole coating, or does it have to be painted over as well? I hoping that just a single coat of the epoxy will suffice, what are your thoughts on this. thanks for any help,
If all the rust is gone and clean metal, epoxy is great. I'd spray two coats as epoxy is pretty thin. It wouldn't hurt to top coat it with something else. Epoxy is pretty tough, but it has no UV protection.
Do yourself a favor and pick up a 3m primer gun 150.00 They have throw away tips 1.2 to 2.0 every time you change tips it’s like starting with new gun You need to clean polyester primer with acetone You should have pulled the screen on the pps cup for primer ...you’re sanding it a little trash is no big deal I don’t like using polyester primers they crack if you put it on to thick it also needs to be block almost all the way off Two coats of epoxy is too much build it causes shrinking over time in final paint One wet coat is all that’s needed you’re just sealing the surface from moister Oh the tape on the can to pour Priceless Just some pro advice I need to start doing more videos and build up my channel
Hello Is the epoxy primer catalyst the same as lacquer thinner? If so, then lacquer thinner can also be mixed with this epoxy primer. Great vid. thank you
I am assuming that your paint shaker is a Harbor Freight model. How long have you been using it? and do you like it? I've been in the market now for getting a shaker, just haven't bit the bullet yet.
hi barry great vids and advise as always following it to the letter would it be right to use epoxy primer on the insides of doors etc and between pieces that are sandwiched together and using weld through primer where plug welds are as from the factory it was just bare metal
You can, but epoxy is meant to go to clean, rust free metal. It is also not uv compliant. Meaning it really needs to be top coated. If water will be in contact, it will eventually fail.
If it was a PPG product it would definitely be advertised as that. Jo Daddy did Summit a real solid saying that they should pay him :) This is NOT DP90 the mix ratio is wrong. So no, not PPG. Not that its not a good product though I may try it
I would highly recommend a Devilbiss GPI or Flg5. Not much more than a hf black widow. The flg5 is cheaper ! I just bought a new Iwata Bellaria w400 classic for $200 . These guns are superb and should last a lifetime. Hf can keep their disposable junk.

@@JoDaddysGarage all good. How u like the epoxy primer from summit tho?
Barry, hi. Like always you give great detail. Nice gun I hope it serves you well Barry. Love your channel.
Thinking about buying some of that epoxy is it any good? It’s cheaper then what I’m using just curious of your opinion compared to other epoxys like dp90 or axaltra
It seems to be ok. Hard to really have a comparison.
I learned alot. Great tips
Great stuff Barry
I don’t know the first thing about painting a car. What does drive me crazy is all the different primers and what order they are used in. I know this wasn’t the goal of this video, but when the sealer goes on is now a question in my mind.
Sealer is generally used as a topcoat before paint. It's meant to bring all the panels into one uniform color.
Jo Daddy's Garage yep, I have a bunch of research to do. There are just too many different products or systems or whatever. I guess I need to just immerse myself in it. Thanks for the reply.
New love for your channel. Thanks for the tips!
My epoxy primer says to sand bare metal 120-150. Since a DA sands so gently would that still be 120-150 or rougher?
Good question. I think as long as you’re using the required grit it should be ok. The problem is continuously sanding as the paper wears out. That will make the metal “smoother” as well.
Awesome video!
How has summit brand epoxy been holding up so far? Any “weaker” than other popular brands? Thank you
No issues.
hi Sir, where did you get the adapter to use the accu spray
cups...thanks ...I have a black widow and would love to use accuspray system with it
The PPS system? My local paint supply store.
Excellent video
thank you that was sooooo helpful
I like what you do but I don't do things that has air or water flow I always use teflon tape.
Awesome vid berry
excellent tips thank you
That's a nice looking spray gun!
I like it. I think the pair will do nicely.
Do yourself a favor and pick up a 3m primer gun 150.00
They have throw away tips 1.2 to 2.0 every time you change tips it’s like starting with new gun
You need to clean polyester primer with acetone
You should have pulled the screen on the pps cup for primer ...you’re sanding it a little trash is no big deal
I don’t like using polyester primers they crack if you put it on to thick it also needs to be block almost all the way off
Two coats of epoxy is too much build it causes shrinking over time in final paint
One wet coat is all that’s needed you’re just sealing the surface from moister
Oh the tape on the can to pour
Priceless
Just some pro advice
I need to start doing more videos and build up my channel
Hello
Is the epoxy primer catalyst the same as lacquer thinner? If so, then lacquer thinner can also be mixed with this epoxy primer. Great vid. thank you
Not the same.
I am assuming that your paint shaker is a Harbor Freight model. How long have you been using it? and do you like it? I've been in the market now for getting a shaker, just haven't bit the bullet yet.
It's either from Harbor Freight or Northern tools. It does a good job. Haven't had any issues.
Great video!!! Thanks 👊🏽
#27 i believe will work in most China freight guns i put pps on the better purple gun yrs ago lol
Can you give me the model and place to purchase spray gun wrench yours has nice rubber handle?
No idea.
If it's a flowmeter - does it really matter which side it's on?
Shouldn’t.
hi barry great vids and advise as always following it to the letter would it be right to use epoxy primer on the insides of doors etc and between pieces that are sandwiched together and using weld through primer where plug welds are as from the factory it was just bare metal
You can, but epoxy is meant to go to clean, rust free metal. It is also not uv compliant. Meaning it really needs to be top coated. If water will be in contact, it will eventually fail.
Great video
At 35:15 you call the Summit Epoxy PPG. Is that Summit Epoxy supposedly made by PPG? Thank You Thank You Thank You for sharing your knowledge!
Good catch. Had several things on my mind. I don't know who makes it for Summit.
@@JoDaddysGarage
supposedly kirker, or so i've been told
...Holds up Summit can, and says "I really like the PPG Primer". Safe to say it's PPG product? I hope so I ordered a few gallons over the summer. lol
I really don't know.
If it was a PPG product it would definitely be advertised as that. Jo Daddy did Summit a real solid saying that they should pay him :) This is NOT DP90 the mix ratio is wrong. So no, not PPG. Not that its not a good product though I may try it
When your adding exter parts adapter, regulator, drier etc. You dont use teflon tape.
Would the 27 gallon Fortress compressor have enough airflow for using this gun?
Not sure
@Jo Daddy, what is the part / model # on the regulator that your using from Harbor Freight?
I believe this is it: www.harborfreight.com/125-PSI-Air-Flow-Regulator-with-Gauge-62695.html
Fantastic info we want more
More on the way.
Thanks good tips
My last can of guide coat lasted about 3 years
How does this Harbor Freight gun compare with a Devilbiss HVLP gun? Devilbis are good but pricy.
I don't have a devilbiss to compare to. Sorry.
@aaron anderson 🤣😂🤣I do I must admit, but I learned so much from Gunny !
Do you recommend a 1.7 tip for clear? I'm confused on tip size for primer coat/ base coat/ clear coat. Any advice?
May be a bit big. This may help. garage.eastwood.com/eastwood-chatter/how-to-select-the-right-tip-for-your-paint-gun/
Thanks a lot, brother!
What is your Favorite Poly high build primer surfacer?
I don't use one specifically, but I have heard good things about eastwood contour.
@@JoDaddysGarage Something's going on with the products I am doing spray outs of everything in my garage to figure out what's going on.
You will get a better fit with a 3M S9 adapter for your paint cup
