It shouldn't be painful. A neeedle probably was pushing on the wall of your vein. That was the source of the pain. If you feel pain - ask doctor to fix the needle
I go in Monday for my first one. 3 hrs…but with this Dr said I won’t have to come back for quite some time so I will take it. I can’t wait. Because of a surgery among other things I’m absorbing nothing sat of 4% and ferritin of 6. Hemp was tad low at 11 but not bad. Just ready to feel better
Just got my fusion yesterday it was not painful at all but I do have a headache today which they told me could happen and this normal drinking lots of water and resting.

Recently when I was in the hospital for something else, my iron was extremely low. I was given an infusion. I’m not sure what pain you’re referring to. They told me to let them know if I began having issues with breathing or my chest. I’m not sure what pain you’re referring to.
I'm trulysorry about your experience. But this isn't just for people who are on dialysis. Some people have suckle cell anemia, severe iron deficiency to where they pass out experience pain, those who lose more blood than normal amongst other symptoms. I'm not taking away your experience it seems as though you've experienced an allergic reaction which would be shock from the infusion. But I wouldn't tell people it's for dialysis (which would be false) due to it would deter others from getting it that actually need it.
I had infusions in 2018 with zero issues. Fast forward to oct 2023, i have to do them again. The infusion had my whole arm in serious pain during the infusion. Even worse, i started not feeling well about 12 hours later. Didnt think much of it at first but at 24hrs i was SICK SICK. felt like a servere flu/food poisoning w/ fever and the worst migraine Ive had in YEARS. Im supposed to do this 5 more times. Calling the dr Monday, i cant deal with this every week.
@FreedomfromBingeEating no, I've been deficient in the past here and there, probably from a poor diet, but I had to have my spleen removed in 2013 so I think that's why I'm battling it frequently now. I actually had to have a port put in shortly after i left this comment because I wasn't able to get the rest of the infusions as none of the nurses could get a line on me... on 3 separate appointments. I haven't restarted the infusions yet, i hate feeling so crappy after
I just had mine does yesterday I had the IV put through my 🖐/wrist it was less painful im a little sore right now but good I have cerebral palsy too and low iron because I lose a lot during my period due to fibriods
My husband has low iron and b12 (not deficient but just low they said) so he had a transfusion on Monday and b12 shot but hes still feeling so tired and dizzy the same as before the treatment. The doctor said its not usually fast and ans can take 1-2 weeks before feeling normal again. Its making him very stressed 😩
Taking iron tablets sometimes makes people really constipated doing the IV infusion does this make you constipated? I hope I get an answer quickly because I have a family member who’s thinking about doing this but they’re concerned about the constipation
Try mega food iron pills. They made of all fruits and vegetables. And they don't cause constipation or stomach issues. I recommend it to anyone dealing with low iron issues.

Hi! Do you know the root cause of your iron deficiency?
Sometimes I have pain in my muscles. It can happen, not all the time though. I notice it with longer infusions, but everyone is different.
Thank you for this information. How can we get iron infusions
I almost died yesterday in the hospital from iron transfusion! Sodium ferric gluconate, this is for people who need dialysis, not for anybody.😢😢😢
I'm sorry to hear that. Glad that you're here with us. I'm nervous, I get my first one tomorrow.
Omg

nope
No constipation , iv iron goes directly into blood so no contact with gut so no constipation
I actually get dirrhea from the infusions. But i take injectefer. It's a 15 minute transfusion.

“Painful” process? Can you elaborate?
It pained me a lot when the needle was within my vein.As it takes 30-45 mins,it’s quite painful

my HBL is 5.6......what should I take blood transmission or iron injection? which is best
Iron transfusions are the best way to go
I faced only issue my hand swell like hell and it was painful later for 5 days
My infusion took 4 hours what are you talking about
Yes indeed mine was very low and took me up to 40
Can we continue iron tablets after iron injection?
You must consult a doctor before commencing or continuing any medication
Why in the hand tho?
No. It's not in the hand. It's in any vein.
The painful part is the hand… try a different site on the arm
I was told mine could take up to 7 hours!
That's not true iron done take that long not even close. Once the infusion starts it only takes 30 to hour if no problems
