- Destiny 2's Lore tells us of how Caiatl and her mentor Umun' Arath betrayed the emperor, but the reasons why were a complex mix of cultural factors that led to differences between them, and a foe that forced their hand.

I never thought Caiatl, a random character we read about in one or two lore tabs, would ever be as compelling and fleshed out as we’re seeing now. Her motives and actions are all pretty logical and from her perspective it’s clear she’s trying to do the best she can for her people- I really hope bungie will make more characters like her.
Legitimately after I listened to the messages she left behind, I found myself agreeing with her to an extent. The Cabal *can't* leave Sol without defeating the hive. And while I still don't want the Cabal's "alliance", I'd certainly be open to an agreement that the Cabal leave Sol once the hive are defeated and we'll stop trying to murder eachother.
Here's some background: Caiatl was first introduced and mentioned in the lore book included in Destiny 2's Collector's Edition (D2 Y1). She was mentioned in-game starting with Season of Opulence. Destinypedia is a good place for all information regarding Destiny lore.
@seasick trout I had similar feelings about Eramis. She was just a freedom fighter trying to uplift and empower her people, so we assassinated her. They better not lend Caiatl a similar fate.

Watching a rocket whizz harmlessly by a boss is one of the most hilarious parts of destiny to date (kinda annoying tho when it’s your rocket)
That's why you use rocket launchers with seeker warheads. They do miss if the target kinks suddenly, but for the most part it's a guaranteed hit at range.

Facts. Then it becomes a balance of 'not to far so the boss can dodge' and 'not to close and you'll blow yourself up'. I've been guilty of both since rocket launchers got that buff. :)

It just struck me that Calus is Nero, the mad emperor fiddling while his nation burns (yes I'm aware this is a myth and Nero didn't actually let Rome burn)

The fiddle wasn't even invented yet, however Nero did sing in an attempt to assuage his people.
He also declared war on Poseidon/Neptune and sent a legion to the ocean telling them to stab the water

Today in “Cool Destiny Stuff That Only Happens Offscreen”, the Cabal homeworld got blowed up by Xivu Arath.
It is unfortunate that lore related stuff like this isn’t shown as cutscenes. But at least Byf is able to bring these incredible moments to life with his phenomenal narration.

I think her most interesting nuance is that she is our first enemy actively trying NOT to fight us. Her moral compass can't be overlooked, we may not like her standard operating procedure but we have to respect her character
The fact that the empress is most likely gonna end up being an ally I don’t see her surviving witch queen or light fall, I imagine her being killed or maybe even Taken by savathun then a leaderless cabal on the verge of extinction will ally with humanity under the command of the vanguard

Crow's dialogue as almost a third party observer in the battle ground hints at a need to build bridges between us the cabal and the eliksni if we are to survive. This action against Caiatl is short of open warfare in the formal sense. If we don't resolve it soon we will be open to the action of Sivu Arath and Savathun along with the black fleet

Been on a Byf lore binge... and all the lore on the darkness and what it’s capable of has me thinking... we still need 2 more darkness subclasses. From the most recent Dead Mans Tale quest, I get virulence (poison) vibes as one. And gravity as another. You should do a speculative video on subclasses to come!

Oryx has more lore yes, but was it experienced in-game? no, and that's where I think Bungie has struck gold in their recent story beats by actually engaging the general playerbase in the story through more than just lore books.

Yeah, it's all so impressive that they even had Caital's mentor in CQC, Ghaul, as the third pillar of the coup against Calus. They mirrored the triumvirate structure many ambitious Roman leaders would try to form to manage the Roman Empire.

what she offered us is the same as what Ghaul offered, she just asked correctly. she asked us instead of our battery, but she overstepped in her position, thinking that she needs to lead us to be victorious but in fact we need to lead them.

I brought this up in a video about Amada's dialogue. Caiatl's an idiot for starting this pointless campaign against the city. She has no homeworld, her resources are dwindling, and instead of agreeing to mutually beneficial compromise, She's hurling her people into a pointless conflict with the guardians who beat the cabal empire on three different occasions. Despite having a common enemy she's fighting us because we refused to bow to her rule.
I'm dumbfounded by this fact.
Alright here’s the plan; we ally with Mithrax and caiatl, find a way into the ascendant realm (preferably savathun’s), have Osiris or someone open the vex gate network directly into the ascendant realm, send in fallen and cabal raiding parties with guardian fireteams using surgical strikes against savathun’s ascendant lieutenants, and finally dukeing it out with savathun kings fall style. Any questions?

@@gabricaroasabedoria7867 we don’t go into the network. We just open a link between the vex network and savathun’s throne world. It already happened with oryx, and the vex were about to win when oryx took them all.

This season got the spirit of what the BL campaign was supposed to be... It's the first time that I really feel sorry for the enemies, first the Cabal lost everything, and now they have to face the "Warriors from Sol" that according to the Cabal seem to be invincible, and yet they don't give up.
The lore in the equipment shows the point of view of these soldiers who have been away from home for a long time and now have to fight for their survival in what is like space Vietnam.
Seeing the Cabal going full Fallen-ish, after losing their home planet to the Hive and even their empire, seems like karma was a huge bitch with them.
Caiatl is being a leader during such a moment of crisis of her people, without taking the same dark turn as Eramis. Just didn't understand that she is not in position to impose her will to the Vanguard and is making things "harder" for what remains of the Cabal.
Crow is developing to be a form of "ambassador", seems like the Fallen won't the only ones given a chance for reconciliation. But who knows, only the end of this season and the one to come will tell.

Say anything about destiny 2 but the lore the creators make is absolutely great.
Could Umun be some form of conduit for shivu arath? It would make sense in a way that shivu would want stronger foes to test her sword logic against and what better way than creating your own perfect enemy. Dumb idea that just floated up just speculation.
Calus may have been feckless but the military seeing The Hive as soldiers and not as agents of omnicide is such a screw up, like the Guardians first assault on the moon
I do wonder if we'll see Caiatl back down from her original proposal of "alliance", she can't go back on it as a Cabal leader, she literally started the end of her own empire and homeworld, but at the same time she seems too smart to not know that she can't win against us
She's probably in the worst position anyone in Destiny lore has ever been, it falls on her to keep the Cabal from becoming scavengers like the fallen, but she needs either power or protection (specifically our protection) but at the same time she also needs to keep honor, tradition and culture alive so her people don't become strays like House Dusk
