- Destiny 2's Lore and Story tells us about the original reason for the hatred Caiatl has for her father, namely the fact that he killed her War Beast Milos. The reason why Calus killed it demonstrates his petty cruelty and why Caiatl was willing to help the conspirators of the midnight coup like Ghaul.

New lore really shows how compassionate Caiatl actually is, or was. In the dungeon, Ghaul reveals to Calus that the decision to exile him to the Leviathan was only done because Caiatl prevented Ghaul from executing him. Even after Calus killed her pet and ruined cabal society in her eyes, Caiatl still didn't want to kill her father. Her reaction of forgiveness to the servant that killed the war beast shows this even more. It makes her much more of an interesting character, given the war-centric culture of the cabal. Although maybe Caiatl thought her father would suffer more if he drifted through space forever, but you'd think she would have wanted him dead outright. It's also worth mentioning how Caiatl was willing to accept Saladin's sacrifice for Crow immediately, which most Cabal wouldn't have done.
EDIT: Thinking about it, Caiatl may have had an element of childlike naivety to her until the fall of Torobatl, potentially reinforced by the catalyst of her hatred for Calus being his killing of a life-long childhood pet. There are definitely aspects of that, like how excited she gets in the Dead Messenger lore over a weapon and wants her own version of the weapon. Maybe at the core of Caiatl's stoicism and determination defeat Calus is a child ignored and hurt by her father.
All this lore makes that decision even more fascinating. What code told her that that was the right thing to do? Did she think that was the way her father would suffer more?
Interesting! Caiatl pretty readily accepted Saladin’s service in place of Crow’s life last season too, so that could be another example.
@@MynameisByf In my eyes, it could show that until the fall of Torobatl and becoming Empress, Caiatl may have still had an element of childlike naivety to her. Regardless, we'll probably learn a lot more when we see Caiatl being haunted by Ghaul's nightmare. I'm eager to hear what they have to say to each other, I have a feeling their relationship was deeper than the lore so far has let on.

@@MynameisByf My theory? She wanted to have him butchered as he had Milos butchered, most of all and by a wide margin. But I think that she felt death was too good for him, that even the slowest, most agonizing death and torture would be too kind. Perhaps, with people to rule over, he was content with his near hard opposite to Cabal culture, but alone, with nobody but his gold and gems to talk to? He would grow sick of it, and possibly disgusted with who he had let himself become. And worst of all, he would likely be in no shape to train to keep himself busy, and had nobody to cheer him on or encourage him to keep going, to do one more pushup. Perhaps, the darkest and potentially most fitting punishment, she would rob him the pleasure of being killed by someone else, only leaving himself to do it.
I may be misunderstanding and expressing my own thoughts on Caiatl's decision as I would see them though her, because if the intentional murder of a close pet hurts as much as it does for us, I can't even begin to imagine the pain she felt when she learned that her father had his own gift to her murdered due to the fact he was a better companion to her that he would ever be.
I absolutely hate calus as a person but as a villain I love him. He just has so much character to him and his voice actor lends to it
That's what makes him one of the best villians in Destiny. You hate him so much, but you can't help but respect how quality he is as one.
There is something refreshing and enjoyable about a villain that is so unapologetic about it. I love to hate that shriveled space rhino.

The beauty of characters like Calus is that there's a clear difference between liking the character and liking the person.
You can love a character for being in depth and having so many layers to them, but you can also DESPISE them as a person because of their actions.
I would absolutely love if Caiatl could be given a new chance at a canine companion, perhaps a wolf from the Iron Temple? Now that Saladin is part of her War Council, could he help introduce her to a newborn wolf of Earth? I hope she can have a companion to share love and affection with

If war beasts are as engraved in cabal society as it sounds, it might be a lifelong bond that exists. So Caital might not ever get another creature so as to avoid insulting the memory/bond with milos

oh my god, I hate Calus more than I ever did Savathun or anyone else.
I was touched that Caiatl immediately forgave the messenger that was forced to do the deed, truly and sincerely. That's true compassion
I think it's fitting that Calus doesn't remember or even mention anything like this in his letter about Caiatl, and seemingly believes that he was a good and caring father because of the gifts he tried to bestow to her in his own absence, completely missing the important signs and turning points.
Most abusive and toxic figures, including family, tend to disregard the moments that they inflict pain on others. Even if they do see the suffering they cause, they tend not to pay any mind to it, believing that it is just something natural, and the abused will "get over it." But most victims don't, instead they see it as a defining moment in their relationship, and usually bear the psycological scars for the rest of it. "The axe forgets, but the tree always remembers."
It's a particular tragedy too when coming from a parental figure. Some parents try as hard as they can to just "make their child happy", without earnestly paying attention to their specific needs and being there in the ways that inevitably matter. It's important when raising a child, or caring for anyone for that matter, to remove your biases and preconceptions from the equation and take things in an open and accepting light. You can give someone all the "care" in the world, but what you may believe is the right choice may not be what they genuinely need to thrive and be happy, and attempts to reinforce those misguided beliefs will ultimately fall hollow.
This season is certainly shaping up interestingly, practically as "Season of the Traumatized", and I think the themes will ring strongly with a lot of players out there struggling just as Crow, Zavala, or Caiatl are, and hopefully maybe even helping a few players realise that they're the Calus in someone else's life and begin to improve.
I'm really vibing entirely with the story beats. Caiatl's toxic family relationship, Crow struggling with a part of himself that he fears and hates, and I assume Zavala's story of loss and heartbreak.
Personally it honestly couldn't have come at a more fitting time, if the urge to write a several paragraph youtube comment was any indication.

He's a narcissist, he loves himself more than his own Daughter. Literally most of the things he had said to us can or has been contradicted and it seems that he also no longer had need for his Shadow of Shadow's. He'll get his comeuppance one day.

it's the classic egotist's playbook: give people gifts and lavish attention so they can turn around and say "I did those things. thank me for all the things I do." that was sort of the whole deal with both the storyline of the leviathan raid lairs and the season of opulence. "Grow fat from strength" was calus setting you up as his strongest Shadow so that he could say "I made you this way."

The worst oryx did was ground crota in the vex network.
Traditional Hive morals indicates that murder and violence equate to affection, so as to sharpen one another. Alak-Hul was a beloved adopted son to Oryx, and when he attempted a coup Oryx couldn't have been more proud.
He cleaved his twins to be two separate entities and in doing so allowed the Deathsingers' personalities to make their claim in the verse, and in general went about killing and taking as much as he could.
So by Hive morals Oryx was probably a great father, and one of the nicest people in the Galaxy. No wonder the Hive loved him so much

My childhood dog was called Murphy. He was a big golden labrador and I loved him. My parents rescued him from one of my auntie's Ex boyfriends. When they brought him back home he was nothing but skin and bone. He had fleas, would cower at the slightest movements and had patchy fur. He was locked in a kenal in a garden for the first 2 years of his life. But he spent the rest of his years with us. He fed him, cleaned him and loved him. He grew to a healthy weight, got a lovely golden coat and started to trust us enough to let us cuddle him. I used to try to walk him but it always ended up with him walking me, seeing as he was maybe too big for me but I did my best. He got me through slme tough times. School was often rough but I pulled through becuase I knew i'd be greeted by Murphy once I got home. I loved that Dog. And I hope he's resting well
The thing that makes this truly awful is that this type of person (Calus) isn't a twirling mustache kind of villain; real people like this exist. It gave my goosebumps, because my dad is one of those people. When I was in high school, my dad tried to break my laptop because I "loved it" and talking to my friends more than I loved him. Later that same year, I wasn't even allowed to be in my bedroom. I had to be in sight lines of him at all times, because otherwise I didn't love him.
Hats off to Bungie for this. I'm glad these archetypes are being used, because awareness is the best tool we have against awful people like that.

I remember my dog Theodore. He was a weimaraner and a rescue dog. His previous owner cut his ear and gave him a stub of a tail. I was pretty young when we first got him but when we first met I grabbed out to him to pet and he didn't cower or run. He slowly walked up to me and accepted the love. I had him all the way till Highschool. He wasn't always the most well behaved dog, hell during a thunderstorm he tried clawing at a door in hopes of escape when we where gone one time, but he was always there. Always brought a smile to your face or just got you on your feet and play. He was at the ripe old age of 12-13 when he was put down, he couldn't even walk and the young naive child I was hoped that my dad would bring him back safe and sound from the vet. I'm not a religious guy, but if there is some kind of afterlife I know for damn sure that Theo is up there enjoying his well deserved rest.

i only adopt rescue dogs from abusive homes, the feeling i get watching the look in their eyes slowly but surely shift from overwhelming fear of everything to pure love and happiness when they see im making their favorite batch of food, (boiled chicken breast and stock, lean ground turkey and good ol ground sirloin with spinnach, peas, carrots and shredded blue berries) they literally wait in the kitchen while i cook it all and blend it for them and they are doing all their little dances and happy jigs cause they know their dad loves them very much

Hell, even when we fought in the Leviathan before, we were killing Cabal soldiers that were minutes old, bred and born for the purpose of fighting us. At that point, the idea of innocence devolves into an argument of Nature vs. Nurture.
Milos, though? Calus specifically killed one particular dog, because his daughter loved the dog more than him. This was him butchering an _innocent_ being for no reason other than his narcissistic desire to be loved. That's why it feels more evil.
My Cat Cinderella:
She was barely a year old when this turning point happened. I didn't like the kitten much at first because my girlfriend at the time got her while I was visiting family and wasn't even warned of it until I got back a week later. So a while had passed and she often woke me up by biting my feet or fingers in the morning. One morning, without thinking, I let her out the house just to finally nap before I did some lawn work. I go to the shed, about to get the lawn mower, and I hear something hit the side of a box. As I went deeper in, got the mower, I looked down and saw a snake to my right foot. I was about to panic until, of all things, SHE bites down on its head. I didn't know where she came from but I was glad she did that. She held her mouth closed on it's head, not letting go for even a second, and I reached for a shovel to help kill it. After I mowed the grass, we went in the house, and I poured the whole bag of kittie treats in her bowl. From that day, until her death in Feb. 2020, we were inseparable; her death crushed me for 2 whole months. R.I.P Cinderella

R.I.P Cinderella. Such a loving animal who clearly had so much love for you that it risked its own life to help you. Cats, dogs, they can all be equally as caring and loyal to their owners. I personally had a cat, which my parents rescued from the awning of a shop as a kitten before I was even born, and though he never did anything as heroic as what Cinderella did, Ferdie was always there to comfort me when I was feeling down. He lived until the age of 21, when we had to unfortunately euthanise him because he had a kidney disease that had gotten worse as the years had gone on. He was suffering, and every moment was filled with pain for him, but despite that, my family could see in the way that he looked at us and the love he gave us that he was simply staying alive to be with us. The day we put him down was the one of, if not the saddest day(s) of my life, because I had never gone a day without him. He was almost like an older brother to me.
Some animals just have a way with sensing emotions and showing love for their owners in a way that is beyond profound. Much love

Calus always gave me bad guy vibes ever since we first met him. I knew the guy was never really gonna be our friend, and I’m glad to see my suspicions proven correct
I've regarded him as a careful ally till now, we got some really good weapons from him back in the day, now it seems he chose his path and we'll be firmly against him. I do wonder if we kill calus, can we take over the leviathan and turn it into a flying fortress that we might use to go attack the witness
He's quite the Malignant Narcissist, showering you with praise, pseudo-affection, and rewards all as a means to curtail your favor towards him as we are means to elevate himself. But as soon as he sees a modicum of opposition, he's quick to throw the axe at us.

Now with the nightmares, how damaged the internal mechanisms appear (lack of maintanance?) and the infestation of those darkness plants (srry, forgot the name) it would probably be to risky or damaged to use ourselves.
Even assuming that its possible to clear all of the corruption and repair the damage, the question remains if we have enough time, people and resources to repair/cleanse and man the ship without overextending ourselves (If we have enough people to do so at all, even including Caiatl refugee fleet and the house of light)

@@nerdherder9340 It's also very typical of a narcissist to view something like their own child as a mini reflection of themselves, and thus since they view themselves as perfection, so too is the child viewed as perfection. But as the child grows, becomes independent, inevitably does things the narcissist doesn't agree with or doesn't understand, the narcissist stops seeing their child in that way.
I think you may be right, along with the responses. Calus did really seem to love his daughter, but this love became very possessive rather quickly, and furthermore he became a little gone, as he described he gave into the void in his chest, and then we got……here

To be fair, Milos was a childs companion. The war dogs you kill in game are specifically bred for fighting, Calus even mentions as much by saying Ghaul viewed them more as weapons than as companions.
And I will do it again and again.

I still pity Calus, if only because of the dungeon. The fact his greatest nightmare is his daughter, that her affection was the one thing that he seemed to value most; and her betrayal is what drove him to such a spiraling depression that he willingly embraced a force dedicated to annihilating all life. Just what shapes someone like him, that he'd see a pet as a threat, that his own daughter's betrayal will drive him to destroying all creation simply out of spite.
And Caiatl. I'm more concerned that her nightmare is of Ghaul. What will he do to her? Drive her back into the same barbarism that made them enemies out of guilt for her failure to protect the homeworld?
I just lost my dog "Lola" this month due to cancer...Caiatl's recollection of Milos brought me to tears. My favorite memory of her is every night she would sleep in my arms. She would have dreams and let out little woofs like she was chasing a squirrel or something I would scratch her belly and she would crack a smile as she slept. When I had to put her down I was rubbing the scruff of her neck in tears, she wrapped her paws around my hand one last time. I will never forget my love for her.
I got my wife a pug on our 1st year anniversary. She was named Chloe. She was the runt of a breeder’s litter but she was such a wonderful dog. She was 14 when she passed away in my arms. She used to sleep behind my legs in the nook of my knees and she was a loud snorer. After she was gone, I found the silence deafening.

I know how Caiatl feels. I had a cat, his name was mustachio, he was my best friend. Born with a crippled back leg and a lil white mustache (hence the name). He always laid with me, he was never mean, never scratched or growled at anyone or anything. He would always run up to visitors, wanting attention. Sadly, my father poisoned him while I was on vacation. I have no proof of it, but I know he did it. He hated my cat. He was the only one. And he was the only one in this house to not go on the vacation. He was 9 years old when he died in 2019. I have another cat now that reminds me of him, the same mustache, but not the crippled leg. He was born a year after my other one was killed. So it's almost like he was reborn for me. My sweet Tres, he follows me everywhere, just like my mustachio, always purring, always rolling around for attention. I like to believe he was reborn with full functioning legs, so he could live a normal life.

@@DaReaIJesus of course. I watch him every day. I don't trust him around any of the animals we have. I'm going on another vacation in July and I'm considering getting some hidden cameras. If I catch anything I will turn them in to the police.

I wonder if Calus won’t actually manage to make himself into a significant threat, or at least cause some serious problems for us. Only for the witness to show up in person, and one shot him when he tries to talk to the witness, you know, build up a boss only to show he’s nothing before the real villain.
Bad example. Rhulk is also a deeply pathetic and broken person, just more powerful in a direct sense.
I think its more Calus physically cannot do much in his current/potentially former body. In the Captain's Log lore book he is described as mottled and pale, with thin skin and glossy eyes (cataracts or blindness I assume). He is either super old, super sick, or has degraded after his initial contact with the Darkness

Time to gut the Leviathan wholesale? Maybe repurpose its reactor as a weapon against the Pyramid ships? Sounds like a plan.

Love the Deadpool 2 reference
I love how last year seemed to be focused on getting the story telling right, and now this year is about getting the character development right. Risen changed Saladin from someone who was basically just a bad ass boomer to someone you can actually relate to and understand a bit more. Crow was essentially given a catalyst, the accidental death of a Psion, to grow him as well, not just to see how he has or hasn't evolved from Uldren but also so this season he has more of a reason to face Uldren in a more literal sense. The villains have been given a lot of much needed development as well which really makes me smile, from Savathûn to Calus to even Rhulk who was introduced for only one raid. I can't wait to see what they do with Caiatl (who already was a great character to begin with), Zavala, and any other character in the future seasons.
I remember my beautiful black lab Luna, she was such a sweetheart, massive for her breed and equally strong and fast. I still remember those summer days where I would take her for a run when I was still in middle school, I’d be on my scooter or a skateboard and she’d be right beside me, keeping pace. Her laying down in a hot tired heap next to me while I watched cartoons in my room, she was the best dog I’ve had the chance to grow up with, I miss her dearly.
We've always had dogs as pets in my family. You can look into their eyes and see that they have a soul. They express emotion. They can get their feelings hurt. They experience joy and elation every time you walk through the front door after being gone at work all day. Your attention and affection is what they live for, along with the occasional treat. They are truly man's best friend.
Calus:For the Darkness' sake, daughter, it was just a War Beast.
Caiatl: Just a War Beast? Father... when you brought me into the world I had nothing... until Milos arrived, and in that moment I received some semblance of hope. A chance to grow unalone...
And you... Father... took that from me. Stole that from me. _Killed that from me!_

I love that Byf used The Hunted as the backtrack during of My Daughter: Caiatl, the Princess-Imperial since the track is so intense and I picture the deposed Calus speaking the words,
"You mistook my joy for weakness. You understood nothing of who I am."
My fav pet moment was when my 7 year old rosy faced love bird first sat on my shoulder for the first time. We got him from another family where they were neglected for years and started hating humans. His partner got health issues that eventually caused his death and since we didn't want him to be alone we got a new bird. A 2 month old blue lovebird who had no issues with humans. After having had the older one for a few years now and him never really liking to be around us he probably realized that as we didn't harm the baby bird we wouldn't harm him either so one cold winter day we were playing with the baby and he was just on a shelf as far away from us as he usually was. Then while I was feeding a peanut to the baby I felt a small gust of wind on my shoulder and some prickly sensation. I looked over and saw the old 7 year old bird sitting on my shoulder, still on edge but on my shoulder none the less.
After around 4 years he actually decided to try it out and trust us. And ever since he has been cautiously comfortable around us.
I love all these comments about hating how Calus killed Caital’s dog, to people talking about their own dogs. A truly beautiful community we have.
Would you have it any other way? I know I wouldn’t want to change a thing about this community.
I swear if we could ever have ‘pets’ or companions besides our ghost to accompany us or have in a hun space, I’d love a war beast to call my own
Me too. I think that would be cool for our guardians to have both ghosts and war beasts. Maybe the ghosts could heal our guardians pets should the war beasts get injured in battle 🤔

My favourite pet memory is that first day my shelties crawled out of the closet, jumped onto my bed, and snuggled.
I had rescued them both and it had been 3 months of letting them hide, cleaning them, and giving them food by hand.

To be fair, Calus mentions that Ghaul weaponized the war beasts, before they were just pets and companions. They were most likely bred specifically and starved in order to make them go after guardians. And even then, a Cabal would not feel as bad for their war beast should they have died in battle. Calus made an innocent servant slay his daughters companion, not a beast of war. Milos wasn't trained for fighting, he was trained as a companion. The war beast we fight are armored and weaponized.
I’ve had a dog of my own for four and a half years that I raised from a puppy. He got me through some really tough years and legitimately gave me a reason to keep going and trying through some darkness. If someone hurt him, you had better bet there would be consequences. I feel for her.
I just saw the ending of this video, and I almost cried.
My pet Oliver just passed away a couple of weeks ago, but I remember how happy he was when I would come home. I always told him "hey buddy!" And he would meow like hell and he would bunt my leg for like half an hour. I would rub his neck until he dropped on his side purring from leaning so much.
He had an enlarged valve in his heart. We couldn't do anything, but it was okay. He is in a much better place, I'm sure.

Truth be told this does not surprise me that much. Still messed up, but of course he would kill his daughter's own pet out of envy.
My dog that I had to put to sleep earlier this year, we went to the beach when the tide was out and there wasn't a single person in sight, she ran for miles up and down the beach then we both ate icecream, I miss her.
As someone who only played the dungeon on the first encounter while trying to solo it, there hints that Caital and Ghaul have a relationship of sorts outside of the Coup. Especially during that dialog that Ghaul only spared Calaus to exile because Caital asked him too. Maybe they grew close as war strategist or their apparent goal of returning the Cabal Empire to its traditional roots. Or maybe they respected one another as warriors.
Or... He got close to her, used her and then abandoned her.
Honestly, I can’t stay apathetic to Calus. Mainly due to the fact that Calus gave us Midnight coup (and now a farmable/craftable Beloved)
Calus, even before becoming a Disciple, is the perfect representation of a few of the seven deadly sins: lust, greed, especially sloth, gluttony, envy, and finally, pride. He doesn’t seem even remotely wrathful though. If he is, he’s very passive about it.

If I wear my title of Shadow, I wear it so I may remind Calus of how it feel to be betrayed by those he trusted most; so my knife may be twisted just that little bit deeper. Just as on Torobatl.
My best memory is of my dog (Zoe: Dalmatian, Doberman mix), when my daughter was born not more than 3 weeks ago , we worried as any parent would about the dogs response to the baby. Not that she has ever shown and tendency towards violence, but alas we worried. We got home after being in the hospital and put the baby down on the couch and Zoe walked over and laid next to the baby and laid her head on the babies feet, as if she knew this little loud sometimes smelly small human was now hers to protect. Now anytime anyone she does not know goes near the baby Zoe is there laying next to her. I couldn't have asked for a greater friend.
Man now I am really curious about the Calus' shadow timeline for the guardian of it was going on during this season.
That was always just part of Callus' self insert fan fiction of the end times.

So basically, Caiatl had a John Wick moment... Calus is very lucky to even still be alive at this point. Though, pretty sure Caiatl is regretting not letting Ghaul just slip the knife in when he had the chance.

We've had dogs since my first one when I was 5. Lady was my family's first good girl...incredibly sweet, loyal, & protective. Our second good girl was Trinity. We heard about her from friends who volunteered at our local shelter. They say it was the faster adoption they ever had. Now, my husband & I have our sweet & sassafras Evie...who will be a year old next Saturday. I believe this for me..."A home is not a home without a dog." Evie definitely completed our home.
Calus was right about exactly one thing: The warlike ways of the Cabal would lead them to be destroyed by war. I just took a while to get there. As for pets, I don't really have much experience with pets, as I don't really trust myself to take care of someone else when I can barely take care of myself most of the time, but my roommates' cats have historically always been very affectionate and calm around me. My best memories of them, though, are when they would curl up beside my roommates whenever they were sick or in pain, lying next to them and just being there for them. I'm glad to see that kind of closeness, and I can't really understand how seeing such a thing would drive one to jealous violence.
Glad to see some of the Patrol dialogue being talked about. Some of the ones talking about how the Egregore mushrooms work are really interesting.
My favorite pet moments were when I'd get home from work, and my two cats would almost immediately jump in my lap, and next to me when I sat down.
It was indescribable how precious that was, and how much Love they showed me. Boy do I miss them.

Ciatal earned my affection and respect since her arrival. From her first REAL lore reveal, to now she's one of my favorite characters aside from Saladin and Crow and even Missraks. Ciatal is truly a leader who's endured much just for spite but... she grew to be a great leader. I'm proud to fight alongside her Cabal.
Mine is with my dog Oliver a Husky, golden lab, beagle mix. When I got home from the military he was so happy that I was home and hasn't left my side since I got home back it 2018. He may be mouthy and annoying but I love him.
My Guardian: "Sorry Zavala but I am now pledging my loyalty to Caiatl for now. After learning all this... Calus needs to die no matter what! Will come back to you after we kill him."

I have a 4 year old German Shepard named dax and he's my buddy. my companion. he became my dog the minute we got him and he come home. watching him try to climb stairs was probably the best part. he came at a really low point and helped me get out of a really really low point in my life. he is my milos.

My family adopted a rescue shortly after christmas last year. He's an 8 y o "mutt" but is one of the sweetest if laziest dog I've ever met. He's so food motivated that even for a dog he's ridiculous. Whenever I try to walk him he would lift his butt at me in refusal. He's called sumo and I love him
my cat just passed away on wednesday. i had him for 18 years. he was there for me nonstop when i was sick and nearly dying a few years back, after having a severe crohn's flareup. he's helped me through so much panic and distress and negativity, and i hope i helped him through his passing. im just happy i have so many photos to look back on.

Ever since Ghaul, war beasts became less of the partner and friend for the Cabal but just a war asset.

My family always had cats. But it only was recently that I finally had one of my own : Jóla, a small blue russian.
We found her outside our appartment, freezing in the cold of winter, last january. This year in Quebec, we reached temperature under -40 degrees celcius, so no animal of her age would have survived a night in these conditions. She was just a kitten; not even a month old. She is now more healthy than ever, enjoying life at its fullest while slowly facing her fears of the outside.
I have a picture of her when she had just found her; small and curled against my chest. This picture still makes me cry to this day.
Thing i don't understand is why Caiatl would insist her father be captured and killed during the Presage mission, yet be the one according to the Dungeon lore that stopped Ghaul from executing Calus.
If she wants him dead, she would've had ample opportunity to see that fulfilled, right?
2 major things have changed since.
1: The fall of torobatl (probably butchered that), losing her home has probably made the empress a bit less inclined towards friendliness.
2: Calus sided with the darkness. Calus, as emperor, was a wasteful man but by no indication was he the fanatic cultist we know him as today. His journeys aboard the leviathan since being exiled have changed him into becoming the new disciple we know now. In many ways Calus is no longer Cabal, which makes it perfectly justifiable to kill him.
She wanted him exiled so he would never be a threat to the Cabal again.
After the events of the Glykon and current events he's just too dangerous and unpredictable to be kept alive.
Probably wanted him to suffer, via eternal exile in a prison ship. Then he joined the physical manifestation of evil that wants to kill us all so i imagine that changed her perspective
She couldn't bring herself to kill him back then (or had to spare him for political reasons). Now, things are different.
She could just want the satisfaction and duty of doing it with her own two hands if she can.
It's funny, because in a weird way I always saw Calus as an emperor that was more benevolent than most dictators - he dismantled military power and promoted learning, advancement, equality, wealth distribution, and other great social reforms to provide hedonism and pleasure to the masses of the Cabal. He wanted to be adored by the populace, but in some weird way he was too narcassistic to accept false love. It had to be genuine love, and so he was compelled to actually earn that love by really trying to make a society of peace and prosperity for as many people as possible.
The thing is, Calus was always written is an un-reliant narrator. He ALWAYS made sure that his scribes write him in a good light.
There's something inherently wrong with doing something to make people love you, I think. If he served his people well, that true love would have found its way to him in no time. but he was impatient, and formed his society in a hedonistic way not for the pleasure and wellbeing of the people under him, but so those people under him would lavish him in praise. similar with how byf said he treated his daughter. gave her gifts, not specifically for her happiness, but to hear her give her appreciations
One of my first and favorite memories was of my cat dill i had gotten her for my 4th birthday and all i really remember of that day was her head peaking out of a discarded box just watching me. Sadly she passed away a couple of months ago but i had her for almost 20 years.
My old lady Bailey. She's a German Shepherd mix of some sort who we rescued when she was 1. We get a lot of wildlife cruising through and eating my mom's plants, and she has taken the role of protecting the house from all manner of wildlife. My favorite memory of her was during the deer fawning season when a little deer family was cruising through. Bailey got right on her job and chased them away, but this time momma deer wasn't having it. I watched Bailey chase after them out of view, and moments later that (slightly chunky) girl was running the other way as fast as she could, full butt-tuck and all, and the deer was gaining on her. It was like a looney tunes scene. The deer just wanted to scare Bailey away so there was no fight, but my pretty girl stayed close to the house for the next few days.
After watching this video and reading the comments below, my respect for Caiatl, her conviction, drive and character has multiplied tenfold. And my loathing and despising of Calus, multiplied a hundredfold.
I may have liked his Leviathan's architecture (design as an opulent exile vessel, and sheer scale of engineering), appreciated his tastes and respect of the arts, and not only wanting war for his people, I may even still accept his gifts, given, or taken... but I will never again forgive him of any act. The creature is an envious one, and when it comes time for us to kill him... I will gladly let Caiatl give the final blow.
She might have given him some mercy and suffering in exile, rather than killing him before, but now... even before, when we hunted him, she wanted to see him die. But she gets dibs on landing the killing blow. Any one of you tries to take that from her, you answer to me. If Caiatl herself doesn't make you answer to her, first, that is.

My first cat Fugly(my mom named her not me) would always know when I woke up and she would make a chirp noise, hop onto my stomach, and proceeded to purr loudly. It is still my favorite memory of her.
my favorite memory with a pet is the Dalmatian i grew up with as a child. her name was patches and she was such a good girl. she was so very loyal and loving.

Another interesting tidbit is that in the Dungeons 2nd and final encounter there are so Many warbeasts. If these are Calus nightmares, maybe the memory of Milos lives on in his guilt hainting him for What hes done?
The end flavortext of the Dungeon has him have a breakdown: "What have I done to push her apart so much? What have I done?"

I know how you said favorite pet moments and would like a happy story, but my favorite one was when my cat knew my mother had Breast Cancer before anyone else knew. My mother saw that behavior and knew something was up, I just thought Les was being more affectionate for her. I wish I could say this wound up with a happy ending, but it didn't. My mother did pass, but I know that she still loves me even after her passing. Thankfully I still have Les, my best friend, and I don't think I've ever been closer to anyone else.
After knowing all this and reflecting on the Fall of Torobatl, it makes me realize just how young Caiatl is. She’s still scarred by her dog being murdered, she still has yet to be hardened to the subtleties of war, her denial that Umun could be evil gave her the time to finish to ritual, she’s clearly and has stated after the Cabal fled Torobatl that she does not feel that she’s able to rule the Cabal yet.
But I think she’s still doing her best and her alliance with the City and by extent (hopefully) the Eliksni can cushion her still unhardened sides and help where she falters.

Shadow, the dog my family rescued, was so sweet. Reminds me of Milos. He would sleep next to me in my bed all the time when I was young. He was always there, no matter what. One day we found a stray pup under my dads car, he was so scared of us, but Shadow sat next to him and made him feel comfortable around us. I missed school that day, but at least Copper had a family now, and an older brother in Shadow. I sure miss them. I hope I gave them the best life I could while they were here.
And to Calus, I wish he were alive. I want to torment him, to see him suffer. He's likely just a husk now, no use in keeping him alive. Not even worth the ammo if you ask me, cheaper to put a knife in his skull. When his raid or whatever comes out, I'm going to do my darnest to make that happen. Might not like Solar 3.0, but I'll use it just for that.
Used to have a German shepherd/black lab mix when I was a kid. My favorite memory about him was the fact that there were so many times there would be deer, squirrels, rabbits, cats, birds, or groundhogs wandering around our backyard by the woods and it wouldn't really phase him. Only exception was when I went outside to see why he was barking at a rock only to realize it was a turtle. After that he left it alone and the turtle eventually went on its way.
I remember my first family dog, Sammie. She was a sheltie my parents adopted before I was born, so until the age of 13, I never knew a time without her. I will always remember how every night, when everyone had settled in their rooms, she would check in on us one by one, then rest downstairs like she was keeping watch. She loved us, and we loved her. We did our best to give her a long, happy life.
My favorite memory with my pet is with my horse, Dancer! I used to have to chase her around to catch her, but I remember the day when I called her name and she looked up at me, and came to me! Of her own accord!! It was that movie moment when the horse runs up to the protagonist. It was amazing!! From that time on, our way of speaking to each other grew, and I knew she was happy to see me if she came to me, or if she was in a “haha you’ll never catch me” mood, or if she would walk away because she was mad at me for not visiting her more(college kept me busy).
My family adopted a dog about two years ago. She was a stray for most of her life, and she was found when she got stuck in a fence, which injured one of her legs so badly it had to be amputated. She spent two years in a shelter before we took her. We have three cats, two of them are twins, and they were just a few months old at the time, so they were absolutely fascinated by her. At first, she was a little intimidated by them, but a few days later she allowed them to lie down on her and they started following us when we walked her. I still see them cuddle together sometimes.
