@@linkshroom Yes. In the original story, Enkidu the friend of Gilgamesh was the first to die. His mortality shook Gilgamesh to his core and he became obsessed with discovering how to overcome death. It's reflected here because in the story what caused Gilgamesh to fear was witnesseing a worm like maggot crawl out of Enkidu's body and here you see Katabasis strung up by bunches of worm like things crawling throughout his body. It makes me wonder if Gilgamesh is trying to find a way to save his gaurdian or if it's just a nod to the tale.

The purple shit he consumes. That, mixed with dark ether. Used as a sort of IV drip for.. whatever purpose calus is doing this. As for hearing "the voices of the dead", I believe it to be just a general effect of the Darkness doing what it is meant to do. Where Light creates infinite possibilities, Darkness condenses everything, every possibility that Light created, into a singular point. "As if every permutation of the ship's existence collided in one space", referring Glykon's state, after entering the anomaly. @alias588 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Tartarus in Greek mythology was one of the original few primordial forces, along with Chaos and Aether. Both an intelligent entity as well as a vast plane of existence. When Hades/the Underworld was brought into existence, Tartarus and it were linked/joined in some respect, but Tartarus is distinct. In some of the original writings it was described that "Tartarus exists as far below Hades as the living world does above Hades."
You kind of get the idea that it's essentially a pocket reality with its own unique rules, which would explain why it might make a perfect prison for unimaginably powerful creatures such as the Titans.
Bonus fact: Gaia felt enraged by Zeus' casting of the Titans into Tartarus, so she and Tartarus joined together and produced Typhon, the Father of All Monsters, who was the embodiment of destructive nature and was the only thing more powerful than Zeus. In their first encounter, Typhon ripped Zeus into tiny bits and scattered those bits all over the world. Hermes raced around the world and gathered the bits, putting Zeus back together, and Zeus picked up a mountain and trapped Typhon under it, but was never able to destroy Typhon. That's part of the reason evil creatures are thought to reside below the ground, and also part of the cause of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.

Hey Byf, I just want to point out that the general setting and story of the Glykon remembered me about a movie from 1997 called "Event Horizon". That movie is a terror movie about a ship that is testing a warp engine and disappears, and when it shows back they send a team to investigate, only to find horrors and such.
The ship is in a constant process of being sent into "hell" and back, they listen to the voice of their past failures/regres, there is a "flame-like villain". Most of the things check.
I say this because I do not believe that the Glykon is still inside the anomaly. I think it was expelled from it, maybe as a lure, but since not only us, but also Cabal are capable to enter the Glykon (and also all communication) I do not believe that we are inside the anomaly when playing the mission.
Still, I would suggest watching the movie, it does have some similar scenes to what we see in the Glykon (if my memory serves me well)

Speaking of rivers, I immediately thought of the intro video of beyond light where it looks like the swirls and eddies of a river are overtaking the planets lost to the darkness.

One thing that connects to your point is that the Deep is both an entity and a place, Hades similarly is both the name of the Underworld and the Entity that rules it. Great video by the way.

Yeah, absolutely. The biggest of Destiny's flaws has always been the way it taught it's story. The glykon is incredible

A connection I'm surprised I didn't see made, was that all the rivers in the underworld -- Acheron(woe), Lethe(amnesia), Styx(souls), Cocytus(lament), and Phlegethon(fire) -- all lead to tartarus. Which is the DEEPest part of the underworld. Made for the torment of the wicked, not to mention also being a primordial being... similar to the deep seemingly being both a place and a thing... maybe it too is a primordial being...

I’m calling it now, next season we use the glycon to access the vault of glass. Considering the vault can be anywhere at anytime and how the anomaly’s of the glycon seem to put you through different times and realities it could pop us back up at the vault. Also the vault of glass is merely a copy of the glycon anomaly’s by the vex with vexy differences

I initially thought the secret mission was going to involve cocytus station before the season started. Glad to know I was partially right and that the anomaly is most likely related to it.

This Mission of communion with the Dark brings me more and more, time and time again, to Dark Souls and how Darkness is contextualized in that world's Lore. I do feel some influence of it in these logs and especially how the Dark is a space and a entity, some force and power alongside of it.
As my "mentor" Mr. Spock would say with a raised eyebrow. Interesting.

Just a note: The river Lethe has also been referenced in Destiny previously, albeit as the name of the Lethe Noblesse (which, coincidentally, was rebranded and offered to us in the Crown of Sorrow Raid as the Calus Noblesse). The river Lethe is best known as the river Achilles was dipped into, which made him almost invulnerable. And this legend is also mentioned directly in the Truth to Power lore book.
    Fascinating!

Awesome vid, but something I cant shake about the Glykon and the Deep with relation to Xol. I wonder if the dialogue in the Whisper mission were excerpts or quotes taken from our future guardians lives.
"You shall drift" - Xol; We first drifted to the darkness over the past year or two, and a man named the Drifter helped us along the way.
"There is no light here"-Xol; was also said by Osiris upon entering the Glykon. To my knowledge, Osiris had no communication with our Guardian in the Whisper Mission which makes his line fairly organic.
"You shall drown in the Deep" - Xol; And now, onto the near or far future of Xol's potential timeline for us, where, in the spirit of this video and speculation, we would potentially meet our reason for Lightfall: the Deep. I would say its safe to assume that our Guardians have the potential to sway too far to the Darkness, just like we were purely Light based in the past.
Could Xol of been telling us about the Glykon way back in Warmind? Could we eventually fall victim to the Deep, just as Calus, and trigger a decent into a situation where we lose our Light? Find out next week, on Dragonball Z!
