Crafsman, you may want to mount the motor for your fume extractor up on the wall next to the filter, that way it won't be quite so noisy, and that way you could run the hose down to wherever you might have some fumes need extractication in a more temporary situation, it would not be as heavy or as cumbersome as moving the motor if you needed to use that space for non-fume type activities
Brilliant idea.
Not only that, but this keeps the positive pressure side up near the filter, whereas the back-pressure in the hose means any holes, etc can let the fumes out before it hits the filter. This is how we do with laser cutters and their fume extraction.
Crafsman!! We love you, and we love what you do! We wanted to talk about a tip for pigment mixing but first, your skin is always so amazingly fuzzy and radiant - what's your regimen?
Ok serious business... what you might want to try is what we're experimenting with, and that's to get you or build you a low cost 3D printing filament extruder. That way, once you powder coat your Cheetos, you can run them through the patented De-Cheeto-Grafier, and then snip that filament into new pellets to run through again until your color is mixed all the way through.
Some extruders even come with pre snippy snipers to snip the filament into pellet, but we don't know how fancy you want to get.

@@TheCrafsMan Thank you! Another fun casting trick is to powder coat the molds with color pigments, or glow in the dark, or glitters for spot color or transition effects with a brush before you cast. Not every pigment is stickified enough to stickify, but some of the more expensive make ups like Inglot eyeshadow powder stick really well. We have to test it out on injection when our new injectifier arrives.
A neat thing about that is casting a slush cast against the mold and dremmeling it out into a paint mask to brush in some pigment from behind... so you can do stenciled coloring inside the mold to color parts of the cast which will get encapsulated and never rub off.
Did you ever get your mold flash minimized with the silicone molds?

I know you feel like these injection mold videos aren't something everyone can do, but I wanted you to know that I still find them extremely satisfying to watch. So if you still want to I'd love to see more. I like how you can use older pieces to get different combinations of parts and colors. I love it!
P.s. Megaman is like my favorite character, and when he gets other robots abilities he gets a pallet swap. So one mold could create many established types and still be cannon. Every body has got a favorite and I think it would be the perfect project/video. Just thought you might enjoy the idea.

I have that same Getting Started with Electronics book. Classic. Sorting perler beads is kind of a zen activity for me. The mixed color bags are usually cheaper but probably not so much that it offsets the time it takes to sort, unless you enjoy the activity. But I really like that bright orange pink color. It doesn't even have a name that I know of, but it might be my favorite color.
Crafsman is always on his game but this video really got me!

That space pearler plastic robot is my favorite too. The galaxy colors and style are so cool and relaxing. I have it as my background for my phone. It makes me just start daydreaming about floating through space on a journey somewhere unknown.
crafsman the production value and creativity of your videos continues to astonish and inspire me! when you were molding plastic toys in the beginning it reminded me of those little rubber insect molds you could pour acrylic into that came in a kit. real popular in the late 90s early 00s. just an example of the feelings of nostalgia and comfortability you cultivate.

Something that might be useful - Those beads can be had by the jar, for next to nothing, at many second-hand "thrift" stores. They end up there from beading collections of kids who stop doing it, estate sales, etc. My wife bought two big flower vases full of assorted beads for a couple of bucks each.
The downside is is it indeed a random assortment of whatsits, so there will be a lot of time spent sorting. But, if that's your thing while the tv is on or whatever, it is a cheap option.

can you repourpose soda bottles? I mean it seems weird to pay for this plastic, its everywhere, milk jugs and lids... soda bottles... id love to see an episode where you make toys and figures from junk....

You can find out more information about how to recycle different kinds of plastic on the precious plastic website. On TH-cam search for davehakkens. Precious Plastic videos are posted there.
If you mean the 2 liter type bottles it's usually PET plastic so yes you could recycle and inject them if you clean it out and shred it down to something that would fit into the hopper. The biggest challenge with recycling plastic is the sorting. Your toy might be PP, your bottle PET, your glass PC, your legos ABS, etc. When the item is marked as 1-6 it's relatively easy but if it's marked 7 (other) or if its not labeled (which unfortunately a decent amount isn't labeled) it can take awhile to identify what type of plastic you have). Once identified it's usually just getting a saw and a shredder to get things pellet sized to inject.
On the aluminum front your normal recycling does a much better job at reuse unlike plastic which is only 10% recycled. You certainly could do similar, getting a kiln, a better saw, and a cnc and make your own aluminum mold via recycling soda cans but since you make so few molds I'm not sure it's worth it and the official recycling keeps a lot more of it out of the landfills.

You could combine your flexable and non flexable plastics to make a rubber jointed makerbot. Make sure to carve a channel around the mating parts to allow the rubber to form a mechanical lock around the individual parts. Just like in an over mould.
OOOweee! I'm heading to your shop right now! I know my baby girl would love one of those in pink, and I have my eye on a pearly one. I don't care what color. Just pearly looking is good for me. I cannot wait to see what you have in your shop. Every time I go, it's always been the 3D model for the Aqua figure. I missed out on the spoon rings as well as the resin with wood pieces. The silicon does let you do some fun creative things quickly, but those metal molds are unbeatable in quality
If you just select greens, browns, and greys from your beads, you can cast random forest camo figures.
They'd go missin though... ;)

I would pay someone to let me sort that container of perler beads by color.
That bin would tick me off something fierce. No way could I let it not be sorted by colour, size, etc. I actually do have plenty of these for crafts with my kids, and everything is sorted by colour, shape, size, etc. My kids are used to it, they expect it.
Beverly Anne I bought a half gallon container of various colors at Michael's years ago. I spent more time sorting them than actually making anything from them. Ended up giving them away all sorted into containers after only making a Luigi from Super Mario Bros 3. 😆

@@2degucitas Not OCD, I have a very high IQ and with that comes strengths of organizational thought process and a great standard of living. I think people that jump to that assumption are following the leader on societal ignorance and do not even consider a persons actual personality, ability level or habits. You are isolating yourself from the truth of the human dynamic when you do not question appearances and decide for yourself once informed.
Try casting injection molds in the future, like actually melting metal and pouring it around a figure and things and such
Crafsman you should 3D print molds on your resin printer! If silicone works I’d bet the resin would work, and be super fun!

A vent hood out of an old abandoned rv. Or trailer makes a great off gas vent.
I would be very interested in seeing you experiment with recycling bottles etc in the injection molder.
I understand much of the challenge is in breaking down the material into pieces that will go in the hopper?

I wonder what would be the result if you try to make some "bee" or "rainbow" color patterns by arranging the beads by color layers in your machine.
