More info on the 3D printer: I came to the house to start editing and told my wife the printer has quit acting right (which was disheartening, because I REALLY like the Elegoo Mars!) Well, she went out to the shop and pulled up and mettled with it, and straight got it working. She looked at a video showing about greasing/oiling the z-rod. Probably doesn’t help that it’s cold out there, and I go months between prints. She always surprises me. And this morning I’ve got us another print going! :D

Almost every Crafsman vid I see, between the actual thing he's showing/doing and the little tid-bit... lookin... snippets of info, I find myself thinking: "Goodness gracious, how many things does this fellah know about & know how to do?"
But probably my faaav-or-ite thing is that you never seem to stop learning. You still have that child-like sense of wonder and insatiable curiosity, which too many people lose as they get older, that goes: "That's neat. Imma learn about that right thur"

Yeah! You don't have to worry about having something finished; seeing others' projects have hiccoughs can help folks feel less bad when they themselves trip up. If we only ever show pristine perfect stuff, it can be discouraging for folks who aren't aware that there's mountains of mess-ups that were scrapped as practice. It always makes me smile when I get to see folks' scrapped test pieces because I just know there's gotta be someone out there who's just starting out and when they see that, they'll realize that they can try it, too, and that it's ok to mess up along the way.
Awesome show, Crafsman! We all need to be reminded sometimes that failure isn't a bad thing - it's the best teacher.
Ahhh my favorite is the Mold-A-Rama vending machine that makes injection molded plastic figurines. ahh the great memories of me and my Dad and the smell !!!!

I think videos of "failed" projects are really valuable. It's always good to know that other people also fail, and to learn how to get back up and try again. Did you see those videos of the guys making the real working hoverboard? They failed a lot, but they did it in the end!

much prefer videos like this than videos that show a completed figure. and i hate to see you feel pressured to get videos out on a schedule. your supporters would rather see you relaxed and at your best creatively... so please don't feel pressured by any schedule. we just love you man, not the expectation of videos on a schedule.
My favourite thing about your channel is that so much of your content is you learning as you go and just picking a fun idea and seeing what happens. The videos where things don't go to plan and how you roll with it are every bit as instructive and inspiring.
As an artist I tend to get too wrapped up in dynamic posing, extreme detail and making sure everything is anatomically correct. Your channel and simplistic style is always refreshing and inspires me to create when im in a slump. I love watching your sketching process.Thank you Crafstman and Craftsmama for making him post this video. (Having a voice like warm honey and Jazz doesnt hurt either. Lol)

Your creative problem solving is universally applicable. You're not just teaching making....what ever it is you re making each episode. You are teaching creativity as a tool. "Be creative." Be Steady Craftin!

Its crazy where all this started. I've been doing some homework trying to learn more about injection molding and read it all started way back when billiards balls were made from elephant 🐘 tusks, all the ivory that was being used was killing off the elephants too much. So some one decided that there needed to be an alternative to ivory pool 🎱 balls. Low and behold through enginuity and creativity plastics injection molding was born... and here we are today still saving the elephants 🐘. Just goes to show when people set there minds to do good things for the right reasons any thing is possible... thank you crafsman for inspiring us and keep up the good work.

I've slowly been learning to do woodworking using only hand tools, and since I am still learning many times what I'm working on doesn't turn out the way I want them to. Even so, I learn from my mistakes and have another go. Your message of cultivating tenacity and personal character development is so valuable, and I wanted to thank you for it. It is the type of thing everyone needs to hear from a trusted voice now and again.

Man, I just love seeing your brainstorming and notebook, Crafsman. Your A-Frame shape is solid and chunky, and the space helmet ideas are looking 👌. We need a "Sleep Deprivation" 'DLC' figure, too. That big tired eye is awesome. This might be my favorite figure yet. Take all the time you need. Just building character, right?

Man, I started designing with 3D solid modeling software in 1994 on a system called GMS Graphtec Solid Modeler. Sweeping faces on different axises and creating stepped/conical holes took some real thinking and creativity with a 6-week training course in Colorado at the company campus... and that was with a $10k/seat machine. Seeing how streamlined and simplified a FREE 3DSM software has evolved is blowing my mind, Crafsman. I knew guys in the 80s who simply knew how to RUN 2D AutoCAD who made $50k/year just to draft (that was a lot of money in 1987)... The software you showed today is a reminder why ALL those guys ended their design/draftsman careers earlier than they anticipated; The software(s) eventually made their skills obsolete. Wow, technology moves fast.

As an Artist / Creative myself still daily I find myself messing up A lot. It sucks because we as Artist's, Crafters, Creators whatever, have high standards of our quality of work & we can be very hard, sometimes to hard on ourselves when things don't work out the way we want them too. I full on went Hulk raged when I kept messing up shirts I was recently trying to screen print but I realised what's the point?
Those who may seem like they fail the most actually Do the most because they try the most. All we can do is keep on trying & doing to overcome those adversities or frustrations that challenge us and push through despite everything & we will grow, wiser, stronger, happier, more accomplished & better teachers to our youth! I like the character with the single large eyeball that was in your original set of sketches with the downturned mouth like Beeker from the muppets. In the new sketches the two that had the large eyeball seemed to “pop” off the page the most as well.
You must be the most laid back person I've ever heard. Love your work.
Mrs Craftin sounds like a very smart woman, you should listen to her. When you step into unfamiliar territory, your feet don't often land on familiar ground, it takes time and work to carve a path. I am an engineer and have been making 3D models for decades, and it's still often trial and error. To think that something will work out perfect the first time is just arrogance, its better to prepare to learn from the first attempt and it is very useful to see these processes and know we're all in the same boat sometimes.

The sleep deprivation character looks like a Compact Disk player, with a partially clear window. Would still fit the Audio back story, and still some history that modern kids may have heard of.
I think this is my favorite CrafsMan video! It makes me feel better about my own failures when I see CM mess up, get up and keep going. Keep steady craftin Mr. CM!
13:53 I was playing with wood and resin for the first time, and nothing was turning out well and I was super frustrated and ready to throw it all away. Then the next day I saw this video. Sometimes things don't turn out, and that's ok. Very well said.

I like that we got to see so much improvement in one video. The programs! The sketching! The 3D prints! It’s so interesting to see how much you’ve gotten your sketching method down to be EFFICIENT and I love that you have embraced you sketchy style! (I’m thinking back to the chicken video of you sketching for comparison) and crafs mama was right, some of us do need to see that putting hours of work, effort and learning into things won’t always land us perfect results. And sometimes we could use some help with cleaning our 3D printers haha

CrafsMan, this video is perfect for this morning! I teach middle and upper school 3D art (ceramics/sculpture/AP 3D studio art) and I was trying to come up with new projects that are small, etc. I found your channel over Thanksgiving break. Actually, my husband I binged watched your videos from about 5 in the afternoon until well after 1am! Anyway, you inspired me to teach my students to make their own action figures! I done my first ever mold, and it was from a 3d print and I sealed it with acrylic and I had the same thing happen. It was very disheartening to have it happen on the first ever try when it seemed like I did everything right.
So thanks so much about the tin cure tip! It's good to see the problems others run in to as well, so it's not like they're just your own.

Ive always told anyone who asks me who my favorite content creator is that you are the best one on the internet, but this video is a totally new level of inspiring for creative activities for me. Ive gone crazy with clay scultping, molding, and 3d printing my own little designs for keychain characters for my friends and family. I personally think the best way to digitally 3d model for people just starting out is to use blender 3d. I would absolutely love to see you make a dedicated video about your experiences with blender or the modelling programs you're using here

Plus, even though it stinks when things dont work out, its nice to see that it happens to everyone. We all know that nothing is perfect, and things dont always turn out how we'd like them to. But to see the whole process, the good, the bad, and the ugly, is very reassuring and a good reminder that everything takes time, patience, and dedication. And these are things I tend to forget and might get frustrated about and make me want to drop a project, or not even start one to begin with. So thank you CrafsMan for the reminder and reality check and great informative video (and CrafsMama for telling you to upload it)!
It's definitley a good idea to mix a very small bit of silicone up and do a cure test on you piece before committing to a full pour. Just a 10mm circle or something.
hmm, I wonder if your zero might be off on the printer. almost sounds like the printer is trying to lower the buildplate when its already tight.
But your sketches and stuff look awesome! Cant wait to see how this one turns out!
I've had this noise happen before. There was debris on the FEP film. (Could also be debris on the build plate). The debris prevents the build plate from going all the way to zero and the steppers are trying to force it. Crafsman will have to drain (and filter) the vat, then clean the film, and if the film has been damaged (mine was) replace it.
I have been a fan for a long time but this video was special cause i am also into 3D modeling
