- Sonic's racing games have certainly made quite a splash throughout his entire run. He's been regularly pumping out racing titles for as long as we can remember, so it isn't a stretch to think that another racing title could come out alongside the highly rumored Sonic 2021 game (maybe a Sonic Adventure remake?). Could the Sonic news train come at us with a surprising racing title for the big Sonic 30th anniversary? Maybe, maybe not, but let's dive into his racing titles of the past and see what we might want to see!

Wow, am I really the only person that loves Riders Zero Gravity? I love the story and mechanics. It's really fun.
There are a lot of circles that love it. Though it seems to mainly be split on if you played Zero G first or the OG Riders First.
If you played the OG Riders first it is basically impossible to do anything more than just enjoy Zero G. But if you started with Zero G then the OG Riders is a super alien concept of a game to play.
Can we at least talk about how sonic riders 1 and zero gravity are underrated racing games for sonic and they need more love and to be ported to modern consoles!

So basically, to make Sonic Riders 4, all you gotta do is take the elements of all three games that worked, fuse them together and improve upon all of them.
1) Tracks have the speed and turns of Riders, extra pathways and layouts of Zero Gravity, visual beauty and design of Free. And increase the number from 16 to 20.
2) More rings on the track like Free, and have the gear change mechanisms of
3) Story mode balances the fun of Riders, the plot of Zero Gravity, and the interactions of Free
4) Character Roster like Zero Gravity, but include more Sega characters and obsecure Sonic characters
5) Bring back the trick system from Riders but have a solid tutorial to explain it like in Zero Gravity
6) Bring back the boost an but alter it so it has more control and give different pros and cons depending on the type
7) Drifting has to return, but makeshift Zero Gravity's Gravity Dive into a parkour move that players can use to reach different paths.
8) The battle mode of Zero Gravity because it's the only game with a good Survival Battle...but have more diverse battle tracks like in Riders
Sonic R for the pc was a guilty pleasure for me. That game was legendary.

That’s an amazing suggestion, then again, it makes even Sonic Free Riders look tolerable. Yeah, even though they’re both the worst Sonic games, I still swear to god that the former is the worst of the worst (well, Sonic Jam for the game.com is the only Sega game that could possibly be worse, that and there’s also Super Monkey Ball 1... DON’T WORRY FOLKS, I AM SO NOT TALKING ABOUT THE GAMECUBE VERSION, THE SUPER MONKEY BALL DUOLOGY FOR THE GAMECUBE IS AMAZING!!!!!! No, I’m talking about the iPhone version which was quickly forgotten because it made Super Monkey Ball Adventure, flawed as it may be, look like a masterpiece because at heart, it has some good qualities... and that’s pretty much it).
The history of Sonic R was definitely something interesting. Especially as it started as a kart/ car racer if I recall correctly.
I feel if Sonic R had a second chance I feel it could be fun.

When I played sonic and SEGA all stars racing transformed my sister always used the Wii U game pad so I was forced to use the wii remote and I didn’t like to use it in levels with planes
I wish the first sonic riders would get a remaster, the air gauge and trick system were so ahead of its time. Way more fun than any mario kart ive ever played. Sonic riders is very underrated.

As someone who has grew up with sonic riders I do prefer zero gravity but I never had time to get use to riders since it was a rental game at the time
Sonic's R Soundtrack makes a lot of sense if you listened to the Sonic CD Japanese/European soundtrack.
If you want to play Sonic Racing, just play Sonic Robo Blast 2 Kart. Crazy fun.

Im constantly frustrated to the fact that so many people either don't know or refuse to accept the fact that Sonic has a car BECAUSE IT WOULD MAKE RACING WITH OTHERS FAIR. Why even have a racer with other characters if Sonic (and Shadow) are just gonna nerf everyone? Just stick with a runner if that's the angle you want tbh...
The alternate world where the real competition is literally just Sonic ,Shadow and Blaze and everything else is a meme.
Not to mention Sonic can be prideful and petty. Some rando green turkey calling him slow is more than enough motivation to beat that rando green turkey at his own game out of sheer spite

I bought 4 copies of Sonic Transformed on different platforms.
This is the only game I have done this for and they still didn’t make a sequel. Shame.
That is exactly how I felt about free riders. It would be cool if Sega remastered all the riders games in a collection and reprogrammed free riders for a controller experience because I really wanted to play but couldn't even beat the first map as a kid.
Well the good thing about Sonic Riders Zero Gravity is that now we have regravitified, and i think that its very fun to play and it even rivals the original riders in my opinion.
All Stars Racing on the Wii was my Childhood racing game. I still remember the night I brought it home and played for hours. Too bad younger OBLITERATED the box for some reason.

Okay, i know your name was inspired by it, but GEEZ im so happy that you appreciate sonic riders. Its such an underrated gem. Funnily enough, with rebalancing, reworks, and new mechanics, riders is actually a pretty competitive game! Easily my absolute favorite game by far. Also, im glad that im not the only one who had a history with riders like you had

Ahhh, Rivals 2. My first Sonic game and the one that made me fell in love with the franchise.
Everyone keeps mentioning either Sonic R or Riders, but I gotta give mad props for looking into Sonic Forces Speed Battle.
It is honestly one of my favorite mobile games, period. And as you said, the fan service is crazy. Like, they have Tikal, Whisper the Wolf and Tangle the Lemur from the IDW Sonic comics, and even the 2019 movie Sonic as playable characters.
Also, Zazz of the Deadly Six is one of the most broken characters in the game, and it's hilarious.
Only one I've played is Sonic All-Stars Racing Transformed on 3DS and it was fun
It sucks cuz I played sonic and sega all stars so much when I was younger and I lost the disc and i want to play that game soooo bad but now I have an xbox one and it ain't backwards compatible.The memories I made on that game was something else

Sonic R was actually based off the engine of an earlier cancelled F1 Racing game that Travellers Tales was working on. Jon Burton, the games director goes into detail about it on his channel Game Hut.
Nothing beats sonic riders for me i sunk a good chunk of my life into that game as a kid and i recently got to play it. Never will understand why this game hasnt resurfaced yet.
I'm a hardcore fan of Sonic Riders, I've played every game, replayed over & over, unlocked literally everything, there's so many things I've experienced in every one such as Hidden Methods or secret things in SRZG which you can find on my channel and for SFR, the level designs and physics are actually realistic and run without issues compared to the characters acting "wonky" from the controls but Super Sonic is the big reason I kept playing the game, he doesnt burn through Rings when riding normally but when using the Kick Dash and his Super Sonic Boost and why am I not disappointed with him? Well because when Rings do drain during his special trademark ability, you get to reach 200 Speed compared to 180 in SRZG, he's entirely invincible, can pull off Automatic S and S+ Trick Ranks just by you moving to the Ramp and when Rings do run out, you actually get a Full Tank of Air which is why he's better than Sonic Riders as the Unlimited Air Tank Super Sonic has in this game actually is unlimited and so applies to Sonic's Blue Star, not just Super Sonic because in the first game, you don't get to ride the Blue Star with that Unlimited Air Tank making it not genuine or useful.

Like you, the first Riders game was something I instantly fell in love with at a young age. It managed to capture my old interest in Skateboarding from PS1 Tony Hawk games and my newfound love for the Sonic series. I sunk hours into the game and learned it well to the point where there was no challenge, and yet I still played it just because of the satisfying feedback flow of air management and course mastery. The Babylon Rogues themselves are still some of my favorite Sonic characters. So my excitement was also through the roof upon the discover of Zero Gravity.
But I gotta say, Zero Gravity is probably my second favorite game in the franchise. I understand where it goes wrong, for sure, but I think the story is one of the best plots in the entire series. The characters are all on point, and the goofy levity IS still there actually, though it's primarily through Storm and Amy. The points you make about the story being more about the lore of Babylon and the world the characters live in... it definitely isn't a negative for me. The characters care about their world, and the birds care about their history, and that makes me care.
In terms of gameplay, it is obviously more shallow than the first game, but that makes it more approachable. To this day, it is really nice to lean back and just play some versus races, maybe mess around with gravity more than just the hints on screen. The AI you race against in the versus mode are also way tougher and will actually use the gears you purchase rather than only their default boards like the first game, and that can make no two races feel similar. I also enjoyed the gear change system, there was some minor strategy involved rather than the race to level 3 in the first game. My favorite thing is the X rank tricks, those animations had so much personality and they all changed depending on what gear type you had, and admittedly disguised the more basic input with loads of flash and charm.
What would really be best is a Riders game that takes every good bit from each installment and mashes it all together. Sense of speed and air mechanics (drifting, boosting, tricking) can come from Riders. Epic stakes, soundtrack, and flashiness can come from Zero Gravity. And an art style similar to Free Riders with the thinner boards and bright colors and character models. It would make for not just a cool Sonic racer, but an enthralling racing experience to stand up with the entire genre.
For sonic free riders it would have benefit if it had a control support. I have played all the games from rivals to team racing transform (except riders zero gravity) my favorite was rivals 2 but that's me.

the fact banjo kazooie’s inclusion in all stars racing was never mentioned hurt me :’(. ik they were xbox exclusive, but i was really looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the crossover. Also, as someone who also grew up with both riders games as a kid (thank god my mom never bought me a 360 and i stayed a playstation kid 🤮), it’s crazy to hear that someone thought the original riders was more enjoyable than zero gravity. don’t get me wrong, i love both games, but i’ve always had a closer connection to the sequel than the original. silver has always been my favorite character from the franchise, so i’m sure his inclusion in the sequel plays a big part in my deeper connection with zero gravity. also, the 80’s and 90’s themed sega maps were some of the best things to ever come out of this company (even though i was born in 2000). and who can forget ungravitifty? one of my favorite songs ever, and not just from video games. really looking forward to more content from you!! amazing to see someone who grew up with very similar taste in gaming to me thrive on youtube!!
@@Morowko nah i’m jus talking down on free riders really. xbox was the better console that gen, but i said what i said cuz i vividly remember a 9 year old me begging my mom to get me a 360 just for free riders. nothing else, just that. so yes, i was saved from a game that would’ve scarred my views on the riders franchise
FINALLY someone acknowledges the phenomenal soundtrack of TSR! Ice Mountain has to be my all time favorite Sonic music piece
i agree with you a lot, sonic R looks a lot more "western" than the other sonic games at the time, i think the only exception for this is Regal Ruin, this level reminds me a lot of Sonic 3d blast for some reason

Sonic Riders is definitely the strongest out of all the options. But I really love Zero G's level design & the Gravity Ring is way more fun & consistent than the drift of the OG game.
Otherwise I thought Sonic R and Racing Transformed were enjoyable enough but I don't really have friends who can keep pace with me outside of old Mario Kart games so it is tough to put a ton of hours in.
The Game Gear's Road Rash port sums up why we didn't like Sonic Drift.
But Sonic's first racing game wouldn't have been considered good on the Gameboy, either.
I think that it's funny that sonic drove a red car instead of a blue car in sonic drift.

Sonic R for odd guilty pleasure. Sonic All Star Racing Transformed for modern enjoyment I guess. Lol. Sonic being in a vehicle is overrated though. I think when it comes to Sonic Riders, I just remember enjoying the CG cutscenes to be honest lol. I enjoy the Sonic Rivals games enough. The sequel was better for sure. A few games I never even heard of.
What do you exactly see in Sonic R that's "Americanized"? I fail to see how Sonic R's aesthetic is different from that of Sonic 3D Blast or Sonic Jam, and Sonic Jam was developed by Sonic Team themselves. Also, "Americanized" isn't the best word here since Sonic R was made by Brits; "Westernized" is probably better.

The joke is that the western teams already americanized the franchise for no reason and before that, it was always supposed to be a western series anyways. The only reason one can see clear japanese influence is...because japanese people obviously don't know a lot about the west, lol. I’m pretty sure sonic r was originally designed to be a different racer with cars and different mechanics until something came along with sega and they just slapped sonic characters and maps over the controls of actual cars, hence why the controls feel really sloppy

Idk how it went from sonic transformed (my fav racing game along with mario kart wii) to making a worst version of even the original. I really didnt like the story mode. I didnt like the controls and i certainly wasnt a fan of how coins increased ur speed while getting tapped once made u lose every single coin
