For the most part, the new rubber sticks on the Switch controllers don't really have as many issues with my palm as the original defective plastic N64 stick would present if I owned an N64 and a Mario Party 1 cartridge. By the way, fun fact for anyone who's never owned an N64: The N64's analog stick was made up entirely of plastic, which is mostly what resulted in players splitting their palms on the ridges. I think that might be why the GameCube and beyond switched to rubber sticks.
Also, if you call Smash a party game and not a fighting game, you're a fake gamer and you need to be put in a locker.

The one complaint I heard from hispanic/Latino people was that they were kinda tired of sugar skulls being overused in a lot of media, and even then they were still fine with the skull dudes mostly.
It's also funny cause with how much of an italian stereotype mario is, nobody's ever cared about it (or at least not enough to verbally whine about it). It's weird what twitter users will latch onto and complain about.

I find it so funny how most people that claim “cultural appropriation” aren’t even apart of that culture and hate when a country is represented with cultural norms. It’s not cultural appropriation to express and represent a countries culture, that’s just called representation.

Especially when they try to get that same stuff removed and then complain about "lack of representation in the media". Honestly, as an African American, I'm not even upset about the Pokémon controversy like Jynx and Bellossom because I understand the limitations of animation from that era and that they were on a budget so they couldn't go as drastic with the colors. Plus, tvs had a limited range of colors. Also, Jynx just looks like what would happen if you took off Mimikyu's cloak, gave it lipstick, a wig, and a nightgown. Mimikyu got into its trainer's makeup bag, leave it alone it's trying its best.
I would disagree in the og Jynx and Bellossom part, only because I prefer magical creatures to not look too human. The other design change was that black woman gym leader (the fossil researcher one) in gen 5, look it up, id say that there they were reaching
All it shows is that anti-Whites can leverage anything and turn it into "racism."
E.g., if White people move into majority POC neighborhoods, it is gentrification and thus racism. If White people live amongst themselves, it is segregation and thus the worst kind of racism.
If White people interact with, or are portrayed as interacting with (in the case of Mario), non-White culture, it is cultural appropriation. If White people do not interact with non-White culture, those cultures do not have proper representation and it is thus racism.
If a White person starts a business in a non-White neighborhood, they are exploiting POC bodies and wealth which is thus racism. If they do not start a business in a non-White neighborhood, they are denying POC access to necessary resources and opportunities, keeping them impoverished as they apparently do not have any agency, and thus it is perpetuating systemic White supremacy and racism.
Basically "racism" as an accusation exists solely to disempower, shame and attack White people for whatever they do, as any kind of interaction with POC can be portrayed as evil (a White person starting a charity that only serves POC is White Saviorism, eg). On top of that, the greatest evil of all is White people not interacting with non-White people, denying POC their God given right of access to White people.
The only thing White people can safely do is not exist, and that's ultimately what these people want.

Splatoon managed to get AN ACTUAL CONTROVERSY since this video released.
The new special weapon, the “Splattercolor Screen”, provides visual and audio effects that have caused headaches, eye irritation, migraines, and one person even needed medical attention. This was added into the game in a post-launch update, and this update has overall had a lot of oversights in it.
Edit: They took care of the visuals at least.

I think its like pretty easy to get it from your point of view. Like yeah I guess the screen being black and white and a silly noise doesnt seem like a whole lot. But I personally hated the special (before it got fixed) cause I have sensitive eyes so it would be kinda painful

As awful as scarlet/violet can be, I still say big time the lies during sw/sh was the worst. Like I don't even care about the dex cuts cause it doesn't really affect a lot of people, if your favorite doesn't make it in just use other mons its not a big deal (though certain pokemon not getting cut like charizard/pikachu is unfair). But "removing them for balance", followed by putting zacian/urshifu/calyrex in the game... Blatant lies🤣

@@dataexpunged4784 see regigigas I dont mind too much because you can always do skill swap shenanigans and have fun with that, similar to slaking, it just alters your playstyle a bit. Mega rayquaza yeah that was just indefensible, I have no clue why they ever gave legendaries megas that boosted stats and made then beyond broken, but they didn't remove pokemon for "balance" and then put him in, all the mons were still accessible. They've never been good at balancing and even when they do give older mons new stuff it can result in blaziken shooting up to ban worthy too. Sw/Sh is just all the other issues at their worst cause not only is the game NOT balanced and not only did dlc further ruin the balance, but now I can't use girafarig or comfey if i want to (btw I have no clue if those 2 were added in dlc, I'm just using them as examples). Mega rayquaza is prob the worst we've ever gotten, if not the zacian/calyrex have to be the worst.
It doesnt help that its hard to differentiate what's a legitimate problem and what's just everyone being a little bitch because no one hates pokemon more than pokemon fans and they are upset after every single release bar none. There is always something good to come with a pokemon game and some glaring issues but the fanbase is so divided because its one of the biggest fandoms on the planet earth, that its impossible to know if a game in the franchise is genuinely good and fun with or without flaws unless you just play it.

The objective truth is that white Americans _are_ often the first to whine about "offensive" stereotypes that other cultures are perfectly okay with. It's not wild or controversial to point this out. That's just what happens when you have a country like America, where the majority of people live relatively cushy lives compared to the rest of the world. They need to invent problems to be mad about so that they feel like they're accomplishing something.

For Donkey Kong there was a Lawsuit in 2013 because a person hired by Nintendo for to dress as DK for some Martketing for Tropical Freeze, was using a heavy suit without any cooling device causing the guy to suffocate.
No that wasn’t marketing Tropical Freeze it was for the 3DS version of Returns though Metroid fans did attack the reveal of Tropical Freeze since Retro gave DK attention and not Metroid

Most prevalent Kirby controversy I recall would be the shoddy localization for Star Allies, which led to scrutiny on the 3DS titles and their localization, and the Kirby lore fandom was in shambles.
Forgotten Land came out with much better localization and everyone was happy.
New fans may not know this but back before Return to Dreamland. Kirby fans had to watch “Kirby GCN” go through development hell and people were desperate for a mainline console Kirby game after Kirby 64. Nintendo promised it would come put for the Wii.
Fast forward to the Wii and Epic Yarn came out, fans were pissed off because they though THAT was the brand new Kirby game and not a spinoff.
This was kind of a Metroid Federation Force situation but for Kirby.
i believe theres also some content in the manga (the main one thats being localized at the moment) thats,,,, questionable, but since were sticking to game content i guess theres also the whole debate over whether the mage sisters are related or just nuns?

Considering Mario as a character has met the textbook definition of cultural appropriation for decades now, regardless of whether or not you find him offensive (which for the record, as an Italian-American I don’t, most of my family doesn’t, but my mom does to the point where she got mad at me for doing the voice when I was younger), I found the sombreo controversy to be just infuriating because it was clearly just people virtue signaling.

Adding on to the Punch Out controversy, one of the intermissions had one of the fighters read a book with scanned in manga panels from Sailor Moon, which I believed got Nintendo sued.
No, they weren't sued. It was Nintendo who sued Next Level Games, the company behind Punch-Out!! Wii for breach of contract, and Nintendo chose to pay Bandai Namco for using Sailor Moon assets in the game so they wouldn't be sued themselves.

the most hilarious part is the said panels cannot be viewed under normal gameplay whatsoever, you need a camera mod or to look at the game files to even know it exist. And even then its so blurry youd only ever know its sailor moon by comparing it until you find a match
The most compelling theory I've heard as to why they don't want to touch Mother 3 is with how much shit they'd need to change, the fan translation holds closer to the original vision than anything worth doing in the present day. The amount of controversies that would spring up means they'd need to censor and potentially rewrite fair amount of it, something they probably aren't keen on doing. I've also heard that some of the music in the game would have some liscensing issues, that's another way they'd end up altering the game's original vision. The thing is too, they are completely aware of the fan translation, but they've done absolutely nothing to it the many years it's been available for download. The spirit for the Masked Man being called such is a direct result of that translation, he's known as the Masked Boy in the original release. And on top of that, the night before the fan translation's release, the team got an email warning them something along the lines of the patch disincentivising Nintendo from ever touching Mother 3 again, sourced from somewhere in Japan
Even if Mother 3 did get remastered, Nintendo would have to remove the pop culture references and boob pixie ladies to remain concise and timely. They did it with their most faithful project ever Mario RPG, it's a no-brainer they'd do it again.

It’s really sad, that game was absolutely amazing from an emotional, mental, and gameplay standpoint. This game along with Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger are absolute gems of the JRPG genre. I’ve never really taken video games seriously, because it’s just a piece of hardware used for my entertainment or to pass the time, but Mother 3 was different.

Another issue with Fire emblem fates was that the original script was 1600 pages. I wish I wasn’t joking. Apparently it goes that the story writer was hired and told to write a unlimited amount of pages but there had to be three subplots (basically the Nohr Hoshido and third path) that intertwined with the same setting.
And the final version only used a fraction of it.
But basically what I’ve read of it and what other people have seen since it was leaked onto the internet years ago Hinoka wasn’t supposed to exist and added in as a polar opposite of Camilla and Kagero was supposed to be in Hinokas place as the oldest Hoshidan princess

Funny thing is there is an actual robot Chicken skit that Nintendo had a hand in which shows somebody asking Reggie about mother 3, only for him to kill the guy. So Nintendo is 100% aware that we want mother 3, but they don't care.

22:39 This comment really sums up why people rally so hard around Zelda to the point of freaking out over an 8.8. People want Zelda to be that series that can match up to the "hardcore" games, completely against what Nintendo is.
Just recently Splatoon had what I would consider to be its first big controversy (excluding ones involving other series). On December 1st this year a new special was added to the game, the splatcolor screen. What it did is when you walked through it the game would go greyscale and a sort of white noise would start playing for a few seconds after passing through it. Because of how the greyscale effect was handled though, it was incredibly bright and was practically a flash bang. This lead to a lot of players with photosensitivity and various other sensory disabilities being in extreme discomfort, physical pain, or nearly passing out in some cases while fighting it. I don't believe there have been any known cases of someone having a seizure because of it, but people on twitter really like to throw the idea around. Discussions on whether or not to ban it started immediately and are still ongoing, but it also brought up a lot of other issues players had with the games accessibility, like the incredibly limited color lock options for colorblind players, the massive disadvantage using stick controls gives you, and weapons like the squeezer and inkbrush requiring you to mash the fire button to use at speeds fast enough a lot of people can't do it or risk injury by doing so.
Surprised that out of all the modern Fire Emblem games you didn't mention Three Houses. Fates definitely had the biggest uproar at the time but the fact they went in and replaced Byleth's Male VA after launch for breaking NDA (potentially leaking the smash fighter) is still a crazy situation

I'm completely new to fire elmblem with three houses being my first but damn this is my first time of hearing this, I remember how bad when they even got into smash to begin with
Maybe it got kicked under the rug by this point but the original voice Chris Niosi was outed for psychologically abusing his ex a little bit after the game came out (maybe a few months). I don't really remember the whole situation but people think that he got the boot instead because he kept telling people "I am the new fire emblem protag I'm gonna be in smash". He might have not actually known but they replaced him pretty quickly. It's worth noting that Christina Vee was the original voice of Edelgard and got kicked for announcing it too early which is why people think it was the NDA breach and not his personal life.

While it was the NDA Breach that ultimately got Niosi kicked, Christina Vee wasn't kicked for announcing too early. It was due to the localization team getting deeper into Edelgard's character and realizing that Tara Platt fit Edelgard far better. Christina Vee would not only reprise certain roles for Fire Emblem Heroes even after 3H's release, but also voiced Merrin in Fire Emblem Engage. When you break an NDA it's incredibly unlikely the company wants to work with you again. Nintendo in particular is a company you REALLY don't mess with when it comes to NDAs.
The Pokémon franchise has the fun distinction of being controversial from basically day one. 😆
From a gen 4 standpoint, criticism started to pile up after the release of Pokemon B/W for changing up the formula in what long-terms fans believed were unnecessary retractions. They hated the circular map, exclusively gen 5 Pokemon only until post-game, no legit elite 4 battle until after credits, constant plot deviations, not much post-game content and some weren't a fan of Team Plasma.
B2/W2 resolved most of these issues by allowing all Pokemon to be caught, a real elite 4, less plot deviations and more post-game content. Which is a shame, because B/W was an amazing game that tracked far too much hate, I was unaware of the discourse and thought it was awesome and fans today believe the same (even if a few still believe B/W is only valued out of nostalgia).
X&Y (my fav) got complaints for feeling unfinished. S/M for reusing models, handholding for too long, gym scrapping, mandatory cutscenes. US/UM for reusing models & lazy mythical/legendary encounters (more info needed). Sw/Sh for reusing models, bad writing, mandatory EXP share, low quality textures, difficulty, Dexxit, Pokemon Home, unfinished settings, expensive DLC, and broken feature (ie skip cutscenes).
Sc/Vi is every single complaint Pokemon has ever had, but with the addition of poor performance.
Gamefreak and the Pokemon Company are at fault but god all mighty us fans are no better!

But as a 30-something, oh boy was the initial Pokémon fever wild. There were controversies over every major youth-aimed franchise and Pokémon was a huge example. The merch, the cards, the show.
Many parents were baffled by the appeal of the whole thing. Some were concerned about violence, even cartoon violence, and the "chicken fighting" element. Some people just felt it was low quality entertainment and overexposed. Critics hated Pokémon: the First Movie. 😆
Much like with Pogs and Tamagotchis, there were playground bans of Pokémon cards due to religious or moral reasons and/or kids fighting over them. The demand for games, merch, and cards led to brawling adults in stores.
Before Pokémon came out in the West, there had been some news of the seizures incident from the anime. So as far as we were concerned, controversy existed from day one.
Plus, you could probably make the case that the concept of having multiple versions of the game to encourage "collecting" was something of a profit-oriented move. Same with hidden event-only Pokémon.
I think for fans, Hey You, Pikachu! might have been the first really divisive game. To some extent Pokémon Snap, but that was pretty beloved overall. I remember when Blockbuster had kiosks for printing stickers from Pokémon Stadium and Pokémon Snap. Good memories. 🙂

Not only are the reviews shifting to "crime against humanity" to "I mean, it wasn't steaming shit", but most are praising the new models (for the Pokemon, that is.
Even I won't say that the map looks good.).
I think that Gen 8 is still more hated, but mostly because it was so popular.

Best character designs and good gym designs (no seriously having a stadium being a gym and chants changing their to theme and if your pokemon faints is great) and they could've done so much more with the worldbuilding that they were setting up I'm kalos and unova but alas it's pokemon game they have as much depth as a kiddie pool.
When you rip off a series about recruiting literal real world demons from actual religions, there's gonna be controversy no matter how much liposuction Pikachu undergoes

Weren't a lot of the treasures on 2 replaced because they were product placement? Like Nintendo didn't want to renegotiate the contracts for them or something.

I'm kind of surprised that during the nintendogs section, it wasn't mentioned how in the DS game you were able to connect to other players and meet their dogs and rely a pre-recorded voice message to each other. When I was little, I remember meeting another person's dog (I was gifted the game so it might've been a previous friend/player) and the voice message was VERY disturbing, telling me they were gonna kill me and my family. It left me super scared and crying for at least a week, I'm surprised it didn't happen to anyone else! Either way, super cool video!!!👍

I think if you want to look at a controversy with Splatoon that doesn't involve the #SaveSmash situation, I would like to bring up #GearForAll. To summarize, there were a bunch of promotions with Splatoon 2 in Japan (merchandise, Splatfests, gear, etc.) that were never made available outside of Japan. As a result, many western Splatoon fans were feeling left out of a bunch of cool collaborations, so they wanted them to release that stuff overseas. Safe to say, it didn't work at all, as to this day with Splatoon 3, Japan is still getting promotions with other companies all the time, meanwhile the rest of the world only gets table scraps if we're lucky.
We do happen to have a controversy in the Kirby series - Sakurai, who directed Dreamland, Adventure, and Super Star, and Shimomura, who directed Dreamland 2, DL3, and Kirby 64, split after working together on Nightmare In Dreamland for unknown reasons - potentially creative differences. This caused the "dark era" for the franchise where it didn't have a consistent director until Return to Dreamland, where Kumazaki stepped in. We also don't know much about Shimomura and who he is, either.

OG splatoon player here, uhh all 3 of the Splatoon games have a had a lot of other controversies, but most were just part of larger controversies like Nintendo’s music copyright debacle or questionable balance changes in the game, or worst of all: major accessibility issues with a special attack that messes with the users’ audio and screen colors that triggered large amounts of sensory issues for people with auditory and visual forms of epilepsy

For Xenoblade I would of probably picked the special edition. It was shadow dropped 3 times and broke the Nintendo store website each time. It was crazy and Xenoblade fans still don’t like Wario because of that.
Also I don’t think “no boob slider” led to the designs in Xenoblade 2. It wasn’t really directed that “in this game every women must have big boobs” it was just how each of the many artist wanted to design the characters. Plus the designer for Dahlia is a women so I think the designs were always meant to be silly and funny rather than misogynistic.
I was never bothered by the site going down and genuinely preferred Nintendos website over any retailer simply bc there were limits to how many could be purchased which helped with slowing scalpers down. Whether it did work or not, idk but I appreciate the effort and wish this was done more often. The ones who freaked out like Aero who saw it as if they were being genuinely disrespected, really showed their first world privilege that day.
As for designs, I remember playing smash with some friends and one of my female friends commented on pyras design saying it was cute. I immediately remembered how initially her design was seen as misogynistic, but funny enough this was coming from the same community's beta men.
I won't ever forget people being mad that they removed mature costumes for the 13 year old party member in the game tho. The fact they were even in the game was mind boggling

You're kind of contradicting yourself a bit on that last paragraph. If the designs, plural, "were always meant to be silly and fun," that kind of implies that there _was_ an overarching direction for them to all look like this. Which means it _wouldn't_ be just a case of each artist just drawing them as they wanted.
In reality from interviews, the latter was the case. They commissioned a bunch of different artists and gave them not much more than a weapon class and an element as a brief. And they all decided to use their freedom to draw tiddies. I do tend believe that Dahlia was a intentionally over the top -- but the others weren't, and there's _a lot_ of them. Which ends up being the reason Dahlia comes across as straight fetish fuel instead of as silly and fun. She exists in the same game as all these other incredibly horny Blade designs. You can't make fun of a trope while also playing the very same trope 100% straight the entire time.

To be fair, the Fire Emblem Fates editions had way more differences than Pokémon editions. It featured a pretty different storyline with different characters.
Tough it sucked that the Last Story mode is locked behind DLC. But I did like having that special version that cointained the 3 in 1, which is the same that Pokemon does but not as bad. Still, not because it does it better it means that is good, as the Hero story, Dark story and Last story easily fit in one cartridge
Pokemon at least justified the separation to promote socialization and trade with friends, there it makes sense to only change a couple of obtainable pokemon between versions. But there's literally no benefit to any player or their friends to have any of the 2 separate versions, and there it could also be said that if the special edition should have been a single game, then it makes its higher price not really justifiable
@@Sr.Anonimo-bk1uz I think the amount of content can be justified, but yeah the higher price is annoying. I'd say it having some of the best gameplay in the series, especially with Conquest makes up for it but it had weaker narratives as well than most other entries.
It did but the fact they made it a limited edition physical also means with the eshop being shut down it would be basically impossible to play the full game now without spending a ridiculous amount of money

The reason mother 3 hasn't been localised and likely won't be without significant changes is because of it's use of music Nintendo just don't own, the samples aren't altered enough so if they ever did release it in the west the music would have to be completely redone or Nintendo get's sued by the entire music industry

here’s one for the wario section. Wario land 2 had an enemy in the japanese version that would throw mugs of beer at wario to apply a drunken effect to him which made him hard to control but gave him a bad breath projectile attack. Wild, i know. In the international version the mugs of beer were replaced with nondescript purple orbs that “poisoned” wario. The effect was the same.

imo, nintendo kinda stopped being a fun and wholesome company after regge left and iwata died (rip, i still miss him, one of the greatest men to live, he impacted my life forever even if he never knew me.) their main focus seemed to he money instead of fun. of course they wanted money before but they still did fun stuff, and the company didnt seem like another corporate bore, but now, nintendo has become exactly that. i dont care if the wii had outdated tech, and the wii u sold badly, they adapted around that and innovated and made experiences that nobody else could copy.

Golden Sun's biggest controversy is... The cliffhanger at the end of Dark Dawn. Yeah, we're still waiting for the fourth opus MORE THAN TEN YEARS LATER. We've been begging for the past decade, only for Camelot to develop Mario Sports games. This hurts.
A lot of these controversies surprised me, as I had no knowledge about any of the Mario issues, which is probably because I don’t pay as much attention to that franchise as I used to. I knew that Wind Waker was originally hated, but I didn’t think people were *that* upset.
Though as much as it’s talked in the Metroid community, I’m not at all surprised about the backlash about Other M and Federation Force. What I was surprised by though was that there weren’t people whining about how Samus’s figure is… well, perfect (and that triggers people for some reason).

As much as the tomodachi life controversy is a valid argument you have to remember that when the game released same sex marriage wasnt even fully legal in the US and its still looked down upon in japan. So why expect a game to have that when it still wasnt normalized and seen as "political" or "social commentary". It really was an in tbe moment issue.

Doesn't matter if I bought the latest zelda I can't just make link canonically kiss zelda because I want it to happen. 2nd, as I said it isn't necessarily social commentary by nature but it was SEEN that way at the time. Doesn't matter whether or not you agree that's simply how it was and at least it shows how far we've come that it's not seen like that anymore almost a decade later. It simply was a relic in the past that aged poorly due to actual progression in human civil rights.

You forgot a few Bayonetta Contraversies, 1 of them being Ridiculous and the other being actual contraversy, the Ridiculous one is when they revealed the Bayonetta 3 gameplay trailer, someone on twitter said that bayonetta looked like a Loli and some stuff, and accused the Series of sexualizing girls, which was really dumb and it blew over very quick. The next one that still exists to this very day, is about the way bayonetta 3's story was handled as after everyone beat the game, they were left disappointed and even tried asking hideki what went wrong. And the Director for Bayonetta 3, Miyata, had so much backlash that he left the bayonetta series all together, which thank Jubileus, we dont need Miyata ruining bayonetta even more
Bayonetta 3's problem was bad reception, too many fans believed the new punk rocker was going to become the main character for the future of the series (nobody liked that).
Good chance the next game may take place in hell if Platinum chooses to continue the franchise, but that's just me.

Someone trained in law did a video on why Mother 3 could never come to the west and it came down to the music being a copyrighted nightmare. Pretty much all the tracks sample famous bands illegally in western law whereas it got away with it in Japan by the copyright being different there lol

Nintendo was dumb to not purchase Rare or at the very least tighten their relationship with Rare. Now Microsoft owns Rare and at the beginning it really hurt Rare and it still hasn't full recovered. Or at the very least Nintendo could've made it so they own 99% of the Rare games like Banjo-Kazooie and Conker. But Microsoft acquiring Rare was because Microsoft was asshurt about Nintendo laughing at the Microsoft executives for wanting to acquire the company.
Most of the tensions among Kirby fans and the games are over lore, consistency, and localization/translation. Because of how much lore is implicit, small changes in wording or additions of funny throw-away lines can set off the entire franchise, so superfans will get incredibly upset with Hal & Nintendo over 'em. This being said, I can't recall any genuine "controversy" over Kirby.
Some examples of Kirby fans getting upset over things in the games include Robobot's changing of Star Dream's "......R...E...A...........D...Y............->" in Meta Knightmare Returns to "L...O...A...D...I...N...G," removing a lore reference, and Morpho Knight's fully rewritten lore/backstory/pause page in Star Allies. Additionally, arguments among fans focus on all sorts of nit-picky things from whether or not Magolor has horns or ears (recently confirmed to be ears) and the needless debate over Kirby's gender.
As far as the show goes, though, there's the huge question of the extent to which it's canon, considering that a series of elements originally exclusive to the show have shown up as cameos or played minor roles in the games. That's also not a "controversy," but just something that people talk about, especially when referencing how Dedede's character has changed.
Ultimately, controversies and genuine issues in Kirby are nonexistent. Fans just argue about stuff, which you'll see in any online fanbase. I'm sure that if some Twitter dorks watched the 4Kids version of Kirby Right Back at Ya, there'd be some three-day controversy over the Kirby anime cracking jokes about child labor and physical abuse.
I actually love the hand cramping Kid Icarus Uprising gave me, it was a great incentive to not play for more than like an hour at a time(but also the game is an absolute banger regardless and super worth it).
