- Spongebob Squarepants Battle For Bikini Bottom Rehydrated has finally arrived to our homes after years and months of anticipation! I knew I wanted to give this game the review that it deserved, so I decided to briefly document how we got here, and explained my thoughts on the game in the same way I had experienced it. Thank you to everything for your love and compassion for BFBB Rehydrated, I hope you enjoy!

My favorite part about battle for bikini bottom rehydrated is the updated character animations.
I wish I could ask THQ Nordic to fix the bubble bowl physics, the control stick bug and Handsome Squidward actually being in a decent image quality, but I don’t have Twitter
The only bug I have in battle for binnki bottom remake the multiplayer mode is broken
Theres a chance of achievement bugs so they should fix that and i totally think it was worth it i don't have a fav part since i didn't play original or buy this yet also a chance of some quest glitches
I had one bug at the beginning of the cave in jellyfish fields I used Patricks dash attack in the air and I fell through the ground. Don't know how I did it but it never happened again. except for Kelp forest I loved the game.

As for the sliding controls, I love them, but i also don't. I understand that you don't like them much in Rehydrated because of the tighter controls, but me personally i kinda preferred them over the original simply because it felt kind of more responsive in a way to control where you were going. At the same time, I do agree the controls felt more satisfying and natural in the original, so yeah. I love the slide controls in Rehydrated, but also don't. Also I could've SWORN Flying Dutchmans Graveyard ran at 60fps at times on the Switch version... idk ill have to play through it again to make sure my eyes aren't playing tricks on me. Great review man!

I totally understand. In fact, I would not be surprised if most ppl playing Rehydrated first will share the same opinion, like Square Eyed Jack. It feels easier to control so I totally get that point. But man, when you master the original's slide controls, it truly feels exhilarating, especially on the Kelp Vines.
I totally agree with you. THQNordic and PurpleLamp went above and beyond to interact with the community and let them voice their opinions. They replied to one tweet by shift that said he didn't feel like himself and I don't remember what they said but it is completely unreal that the publishers and developers are this kind!
The horde mode was terrible and should have just added the cut content to the single player

It really shows how bad purple lamp would be if they made games. Tge only reason the main game isnt absolute garbage is because heavy iron already did the 'heavy' lifting about 17 years before

I feel like like the loading times and texture and most the bugs are not on pc at all
The texture loading is an issue for me, but it doesn’t take nearly as long to load in
Baby Kermit from someone playing on the switch, I have dealt with both of those issues, the long loading times, the texture loading issue, and sometimes the screen would go black randomly

I'm on a ps4 pro and the game always runs with little to no visual glitches at all
I just wanna say thank you man, you made the wait for Rehydrated much more bearable with your videos covering the game, I also found your channel because of your Rehydrated videos so yeah this was a great journey.
As for my opinion on the game, man I loved it, I played it on PC it was 60fps the entire run and the loading times were really fast even on an HDD. I did ran into some bugs (was pretty disappointed when Robot Spongebob just stood there doing nothing while I depleted his health bar), and yeah I agree with the movement issues, but it's not like I was expectating it to identical to the original, and the more I played the more I fell in love with the quality of life improvements like new animations, Patrick added momentum for his attack, Sandy being able to lasso in mid-air and jump afterwards. It's been 2 or 3 years since the last time I've played the original so I didn't remember much of it and I never did 100% completion, so a lot of stuff were new to me. In conclusion, I think this is the best version of the game for players that don't intend to speedrun, movement is a bit worse and there's some caveats here and there, but I can't get over the fact that it looks amazing. So while I do love the original and I think it has a lot of charm, I can say the same for Rehydrated, so IMO there isn't a better version, just different experiences.

I can’t believe the wait for Rehydrated is over. I’m feeling such mixed emotions right now.
As a person who hasn’t played the original, I really love the remake, I play on switch and for a lot of people there were so many bugs and glitches that annoyed them but for me I had almost no problem through my first playthrough. Only things I noticed that were weird to me was that spongebob seemed to move a bit slow at some times, sometimes the bubbles and bubble effects randomly turned into like 3 pixels, resolution overall isn’t very good because I could see the pixels, and through my 3rd playthrough when I got to the bottom of the lighthouse my screen turned black only 1 time, but I never thought much of any of these problems so I went with it, and I still don’t have much of a problem with it, although I do want these problems to be fixed on switch, as far as I know, the switch version seems to be the only one that has a lot of bugs and/or glitches, but I’m sure it’ll be fixed, I think the controls are perfect as well, originally I thought that B would be the jump button but it turned out to be A, and B is to stomp, but now that I think more about it I feel like B to jump and A to stomp would be a bit weird, something funny is I have gotten so used to A to jump so fast so when I play other games I have accidentally pressed A instead of B. And Y to attack and X to bubble bash I think just makes sense, idk why but it just does to me. My fav map is Spongebob’s dream, it’s cool when you go across some challenges to get to his friends’ dreams, it’s very neat. But in reality why are his friends’ dreams in his dream lol. All the bosses are super fun and I really love Robo Patrick, the industrial park music really brings out the creepy and dark feeling of the environment that you’re in, especially when the opera or whatever it is comes up, spooky. The final boss is pretty cool too, going inside the robot seems neat. The slides are nearly my favorite parts of the game. Controls, fun. Music, cool. That’s what makes Sand Mountain also one of my favorite maps. And I LOVE time challenges. It’s really easy but not too easy, and not too hard. The gameplay on the slides are just fun. Overall, I really liked the game. I can’t think of much more to say than that, it’s easily become one of my favorite games if not my top favorite. There’s no such thing as a perfect game but if there was such thing as one, BFBB Rehydrated would be it for me.

I kinda wish that for the Theater, they let you restart the bosses but on a HARDER Difficulty. And if you win, you get an exceptional amount of shiny objects.

What a Great and Very True video. Spongebob Rehydrated is pretty worth it if you're looking for a Good time and A feel of Childhood Memories while playing. Which is Why I recommend it to EVERYONE

Somehow I found sliding in this game to be easier than in Fallen Order.
You should try playing Destroy All Humans or cover it up on your channel when it comes out in a few weeks, it’s also another remake from THQ Noric and like BFBB, it’s a cult classic.

I am going to choose SpongeBob Battle For Bikini Bottom and Spongebob Battle For Bikini Bottom Rehydrated Mr RidersDx, my brother played SpongeBob Battle For Bikini Bottom When he was 4 years old p, he play with it along with Sonic Unleashed and The SpongeBob SqaurePants Movie Game and More PS2 Games, my brother said that it was hard for some of the levels and now that I got SpongeBob SquarePants Battle For Bikini Bottom Rehydrated I’m going to have the same experience as my Big Brother, I Love SpongeBob Battle For Bikini Bottom and SpongeBob Battle For Bikini Bottom Rehydrated, and I thank you for a nice explaination “Smile”
For someone who never played the original BFBB, I absolutely love Rehydrated!!! The level design is epic, and feels like your playing in BB, and the platforming is all steady!! The graphical glitches are a bit noticeable on the switch, but they do not take away the amazing experience of this cult classic 3D platformer!! So glad I finally got to play this!!
The Nordic did a great job with the remake but hopefully they will fixed the patches for my opinion they did a brilliant job with the remake for my opinion the remake is much better than the original version that came way back in 2003.
I just installed the game & gave it a go, tbh it was not only a nostalgic experience, but being able to have a casual platformer with character, style, & hilarious dialogue (I never took the time to appreciate it s as much as I should’ve back then), its a gem to play. It’s different from the original in ways that are intentional, but in ways that didn’t receive proper polish. For casual runs through the game, it’s worth it 100%, ESPECIALLY if you loved the original. I’d love to go through the og version one more time to really see & appreciate what they recreated & what they changed for better or worse.
I Love Your Review RidersDX!😆 I think the same thing, that I preffer the original than the rehydrated, because I had more relathionship with the original and I think that have soo much better things in the original compared to the rehydrated!😉 Like: the rehydrated have some lags and bugs, the loadings are very slowly and the controls from spongebob, are very strange in certain parts, but they run very well if you don't think about the original game. The rehydrated version, in my opinion, it's very good for players that never played the original and to players that want to have nostalgia from the original game. The original game have the better controls and such, but the rehydrated have the better graphics and facial expressions. All in all, you did a great review Riders and we will never forget about this awesomess spongebob game and the rehydrated it's a present to the fans and speedruners from the original game and from the cartoon!🤩👍

Finally a video that’s not clickbait, I tried to avoid the reviews so I can get the game but seeing how I’m probably not getting the game wether it’s fun shiny or regular edition because I had some real life problems with mental breakdowns but this video doesn’t act like a review but more of a essay, and even though I love Spongebob when I was a kid and still enjoy it now, whether it’s video games flash games mobile apps the actual show TH-cam videos the first movie this game is pretty much the real Spongebob anniversary special, it’s so mind blown, IM FREAKING OUT HERE, But this video saved my dignity, somehow, and I’m so EXCITED To get the game, if I can, wonder if The original Battle for Bikini Bottom had this similar problem of reviews like what Rehydrated’s professional reviews are, kind of acts like a circle of life isn’t it, ether way, LOVED THR VIDEO 10/10 AND GETS THE LIKE FOR BEST VIDEO RETROSPECTIVE! Bruh I cried like a baby when they announced the remake. This game meant so much to mean when I was a kid. It was my only escape and on top of that it was a really well made game made from my all time favorite show. Very nostalgic 😭
So given how it was announced there was going to be a pc version my thoughts were wait wait they’re seriously going to remake the pc version of battle for bikini bottom, you know the version where the gameplay is basically the same as employee of the month, and then I was like well if they’re remaking the console and pc versions and why not remake the gba version, which had a squidward robot, and it could be for 3ds, but does anyone here confirm that the pc version of Battle for bikini bottom rehydrated is the remake version of the pc version of battle for bikini bottom, anyone?

RidersDX, have you heard the news? There's been a major patch for the PS4 and Xbox One versions. And one of these Majors patch is that the fix the Movie Theater. It now has actual concept art! Just look at it!

I think that the issues with rehydrated are more clear when you’ve play the original a lot or the original close to the original game. I played the original when I was like 6, and then again when I was 10, but I’d never played it since, I’d remembered the games experience but I barely knew the originals controls and movement so when i went onto rehydrated, I didn’t feel like much was wrong, even with everyone raging because the game was so glitchy. I played the switch version in handheld and docked mode and didn’t experience any of the issues mentioned, I found a glitch in downtown bikini bottom and was able to get
‘out of bounds’ on the downtown bikini bottom stage by abusing sandys lasso, which was fun because the top of the buildings don’t have full collisions so you kinda clipped through the top textures it was clunky and felt free, idk why. I experienced a glitch in the lighthouse of downtown bikini bottom where the game blacked out on the final drop, wasn’t game breaking, and was avoided with big brain plays. I got the switch version and didn’t even feel like it was bad, people seemed to have an expectation that all versions would be equal which is clearly unrealistic so when you have people who have only played Mario kart or fortnite on the switch, playing bfbb and saying ohh it’s so bad, why would anyone play it, ofc it’s bad, it’s on the switch. The game is good but the switch isn’t as powerful so it fell short for a lot of people. But I also think that complaining because ‘most Nintendo games’ have excellent polish and for example mario kart looks even better in many ways that Xbox or PlayStation games. Well of course a Nintendo game will look better on a Nintendo console because nintendo made the damn console, they know how to optimise the games to make them run flawlessly. Bfbb was made for the pc, the switch has some pc port games, most noticeably house flippers and thief simulator which on pc don’t actually look that good, they’re low budget indie games, but on the switch they look worse, but are good for the switch. Third party developers either avoid the switch because it’s ‘not powerful enough’ or try to port a game over to switch which can be successful or not. They could easily have optimised the switch version by reducing draw distance or culling objects that are behind the player for example, if you can’t see it then it’s not using up the games memory. I don’t have any tools to check if the game optimises in this way, but I’m 90% sure it doesn’t, kelp forest is definitely a slide that could have gotten away with culling out objects. Mermalair could’ve had increased fog, it’s meant to be a dark gloomy cave.
Overall, the switch version personally, isn’t ‘bad’, as a kid it wouldn’t have bothered me, and everyone who says the switch version sucks can agree on that level. It sucks in comparison to today’s standards but don’t forget, today’s standards can’t outsell Tetris and that game looks like ass.
Is it on steam workshop ? If it is and people are able to add mods, it's an instant buy like the glory that is rivals of Aether and a hat in time on the shop

RidersDX, my only problem with Rehydrated is the movie theater. I was expecting some form of concept art or anything. Instead, all it shows is just 7 or 8 screenshots of the game. Have you seen this? If so, can you please reply to me your thoughts on it?

As someone who's first experience playing this game is through this remake, I think it's pretty good! I've been having a lot of fun with it, and might be one of those games I just come back to complete 100% whenever I feel like it. I have had a few bad bugs though, one of the biggest being the game crashing and CORRUPTING my save file! Luckily I had just made a second save file the day before for my TH-cam channel, so it only took away maybe 2 or 4 hours of work.
Another problem I've been having is with the bubble bowl, and cruise bubble moves. With the bubble bowl, I don't know exactly how to explain, but the physics are whack! I'll shoot a bubble bowl on what looks like a smooth floor, and it'll still find a way to jump all over the place!
For the cruise bubble, I don't really know if my brain's messing stuff up or something but I SWEAR that in some levels it turns of the inverted controls I set.
And I totally agree with multi-player being a bit lax, especially since I heard things like Patrick's dream, The Squidward robot, and a cut stage in the final boss MIGHT be in the game, but it turns out that they just kinda added them as references in the background. It felt a bit cheap. One thing I always wish that remakes would get into the habit of doing is ADDING MORE STUFF. I'm getting kinda tired of this whole "faithful remake" thing that people keep trying to push. If I wanted to play the original, then I would just play the original.
Edit: scratch that the worst glitch I've come to so far is the inability to 100% the game! While it says I have 100 spatulas on the load/save screen, in the game it says I only have 99, and I didn't even get the trophy for collecting all the spatulas either. It's on the save file that was corrupted, so I'm just gonna try another one and see if it helps.

I didn't experience the texture issue, but the loading times were definitely a bit longer. It's been so long since I played the original, so the only actual mechanic issue I felt was on the sliding levels.

Honestly rehydrated was just ok for me it being my first time being able to play bfbb I feel like I would have enjoyed the OG more
"So There was actually a real life occurrence that I Had that help me come into this conclusion, I had this Friend that I Talked To in College, Who reached out to me on Facebook because, he actually found my videos on TH-cam, And he let me know that he was actually a Really Big Fan of This Game and was looking forward to The Remake. What was really cool about this though is that, He Didn't Even Start Playing The Original until March of This Year, But Then when he got Rehydrated a couple weeks ago, he told me that he Loved it, and that he actually couldn't go back to The Original, That He Fully 100% Preferred The Remake, And I thought this was really interesting because, I'm Sitting Here, And Telling Myself that yeah I basically prefer The Original, and that was kind of hard for me to see why anyone would go for Remake Over The Original which I felt, just played and felt Better In Your Hands, But then I realize, It just Played... and felt differently.. In A Way That I Was Used To, But The Remake still played in a way that worked, and would help Newcomers, Fall In Love With The Game. It just really made me realize that, I Love The Original Because I'm Nostalgic About It, And That's OK you know I grew up with it, I covered this game for who knows How Long at this point, I Have A Very Strong Attachment To The Original, And That's Completely OK, But it also made me realize that, The Remake Is Perfectly Doable In terms of introducing Someone New to this experience, they're going to get the same core experience and they're going to Fall In Love With The Same Game. But the fact the game has Like its improved graphics it's improved sounds, some accessibility changes to make the game a little bit more adaptable to New Players, it really is In My Opinion the definitive way for new people to get into the game, and I'm Sure with All The Patches that We'll Hopefully be getting in the future, That Answer is going to become Even More Obvious."

12:37 They added a glockenspiel to play the same line as the main marimba part. So you are hearing the same melodic lines, it’s just in multiple octaves in Rehydrated. It cuts through the rest of the instrumentation because it’s on the glockenspiel though, which is why it was so noticeable
The loading times are definitely the worse for me. The graphic pop ups can be distracting but I ended up not being bothered that much. It felt good playing this game again and I really liked and had a fun blasting time with this. I don’t see any reason going back to the original.

Am I the only person who hates how Teleport Boxes are not animated?
I had never played the original BFBB before, but I played BFBB for the first time with Rehydrated on PC, which means I didn't have really any of the graphical issues you mentioned the PS4 version had. And I loved it. I beat it in I think 2 or 3 days and while I noticed a ton of its flaws, I was just having a great time and baffled at how bad the review scores were. But I did go and watch speedrunners play this and the original, and I can see why some might not like it as much. It was a bit jarring fighting the robot bosses and while I'm like: "Wow, these boss fights are great!" I have yet to try the original, and I'll probably get it on GameCube or something. But as someone who never played the original before, I really enjoyed Rehydrated, even though I can tell that the game was rushed to get it out before the new movie, even though the movie was delayed. The only thing, the ONLY thing that I think is a massive flaw with the remake that I'd say is game-breaking is the fact that you can not replay the boss fights, and I didn't 100% the game on my first playthrough. So the thing is, you need all 100 Spatulas to achieve the secret ending where they sing the Spongebob theme, but since you can't refight the bosses, you can only get that ending by fighting Robo Spongebob with 98 Spatulas to get the final 2 you get for beating the boss. The devs do claim that it isn't an issue, but I hate to say it, it kinda is.
But I mean, all I can really say otherwise is that I enjoyed it. I had a lot of fun playing the game on my PC even with the glitches that were present. Someday I'll probably get around to playing the original on GameCube or the Movie game on GameCube. (I could emulate it, but I don't like emulating stuff unless I have to or it's for a ROM hack. Plus it's kinda illegal LOL)

There’s a reason why Crash and Spyro haven’t had new games this generation! The reason for it is because of TLOU and GOW4! What they did to God Of War was insulting,and looking at the new games for PS5,I think the beautiful movie games are almost over! Platformers have been having a bad wrap this generation. On one hand you’ll see a game like Ratchet and Clank win some awards,and then you’ll see Crash and Spyro just ignored completely. These reviewers are cinematic gamers,because it’s pretty sad when you’re bad at a kids platformer! I watched Spongebob ,since I was 6 years old,and I still watch it to this day! Really the kids ,they’re talking about in the intro are now the adults

They actually are keeping to their word that they were going to fix some of the issues as time goes on. There was a minor update yesterday that did address a few of the bugs and optimization problems. So they really are trying to put some last minute polish on it.

12:25 I believe the only reason you think the instrumentation is different could simply be the remasters use the uncompressed music as the foundation (or base, whatever you call it). Orchestral pieces, whether they are use real or fake instruments, can sound completely different when they either compressed or uncompressed. Perfect example, the compressed version of Rock Bottom sounds like ass compared to the Xbox version and the stereo version in Truth or Square (for the 360), which both use uncompressed music.
I would say it is Worth it. I loved the original and I love the remake.

Industrial park sounds like it have more chimes to it from what I can hear, if that’s what sounds different it’s not super noticeable to me I don’t mind the remastered tracks

I just finished my first 100% run of Rehydrated on PS4 (never quite did that much in the old one somehow) and really enjoyed it! The little bugs here and there didn't take much away from the overall experience

Good review. I really really feel like they could have done a much better job with this game regarding A LOT of glitches. Also spongebob felt slower like you said. Another note is that the levels themselves felt a little harder and the bosses felt easier.
Personally, the only thing I don’t like about Rehydrated is the music and sometimes it feels like the movement is a bit too floaty. Otherwise, totally worth it IMO. Awesome review!
I really wish they put more effort into the Switch port. It’s so crap compared to the others. It’s not that much of a graphically demanding game.The Crash and Spyro remasters look perfectly fine on Switch and this on looks much worse.

As a physical media gamer I hate when games need patches to work. I hope they eventually release a print of the game once it’s all patched. I doubt it though. I still loved the game!

I hate it when reviews are filled with nitpicks and things that don’t really matter too much, and that’s basically this entire review (Small Texture Pop Ins, Different Kelp Slide, Small Bugs, etc.) Also just because it’s different from the original doesn’t make it bad, I think people shouldn’t need multiple playthroughs to realize this. Plus people are ignoring the fact that the game was rushed and some development time was lost from Corona, so obviously it’s not perfectly polished and bug-free. I guess a lot of people just aren’t as enlightened as me, even though I’m younger than most people here.
Not nitpicking is only relevant if they're your entire argument. If you talk 45 minutes, you do have plenty of space for small stuff.
Some of those aren't nitpicking. Pop ins are very noticeable and the slide is a very different section.
Nobody is arguing that things are bad only for being different. In fact, a lot of what Riders is arguing is that he personally prefers the original for being so familiar with it, but that people coming fresh wouldn't mind at all the new speed, controls, etc.
Many games are rushed even without a pandemic. This game had the "luck" of coming out in June, meaning most of the big work was done by the time chaos started. Still, nobody judges a product by its circumstances, simply by what it is. Nobody is saying the development team did a bad job either. Keep in mind that when games are absolutely bashed for being bad, we don't know the circumstances anyway. Most are "rushed" too or have a small budget or are missing features because of licensing or legal issues, but people think the devs just don't care.
And as a programmer, I personally respect game design that didn't turn out to be excellent, or graphical limitations that were bigger than initially planned. But I absolutely can't respect bugs as bad as skipping to the final boss from the beginning of the game. It's all levels of wrong.
Pop ins don’t affect the gameplay at all. On most platforms for the game, it only takes like a second for all textures to load in each area. That’s not a big deal. The Kelp Slide was not fun in the original, but Riders says he liked it because the stiff slide mechanics in the original made it harder. And plus, Riders did say that he didn’t enjoy the Rehydrated gameplay that much because it was different from the original, he literally said that. Disliking something just because it’s different is a dumb argument. And plus people won’t even find that endgame glitch casually. A lot of normal people/ reviewers say the game had no love put into it, when that couldn’t be farther from the truth. I’m just saying that filing reviews with nitpicks, biased opinions, and false information can prevent future releases. (Riders didn’t present false information, I’m just saying other people do)
@@ethan1969 If gameplay was all that mattered, the industry wouldn't be spending millions in graphics. Those things do matter to the general public. Even then, I don't agree that nitpicks shouldn't be addressed. Little details don't break a game but add to the things you might not like.

Nice review! For future remakes, would you say the way to go would be to expand on them (either with cut content or entirely new content)? Or do you prefer it staying completely true to the original? Asking because all the hype around cut content seems to have missed the mark with the multiplayer mode, and maybe could have just been incorporated into the main campaign.
For me this was my first experience with bfbb and I love this game besides from the bugs (annoy squidward glitch) and kelp forest this game was everything I wanted from a Spongebob platformer though I am hoping for a patch
16:29 Funnily enough, the loud sound you hear when you respawned in Goo Lagoon was the sounds of the towers. Yes, the towers. You hear them "connecting" to each other every time you respawn. It's super annoying.

To sum up my thoughts: if you love the original then you'll love this game or stick to the original depending on your preference. If you haven't played the original then this game is a great substitute for the original.
