  • We've owned our Honda GL1800 Goldwing for 1 year now. It's time for it's MOT test and annual service but what do we think of Goldwing ownership? How much does it cost? Are there regrets? Are there good points and bad points? In this video Sarah & Jonathan answer those questions....

    Hello from Indiana. Sorry to hear that your GW had an issue. I have an 08 with 94000 miles. Just routine maintenance and one recall. Great video. Have friends in Kimberly, would love to ride in the UK. I have owned three GW. 75, 98, & 08. Loved all of them. Best regards & safe riding.

    Our first event is right for life from Shewsbury to Crossford. It raises lots of money for charity again. If the weather is good it’s a fantastic event they shut the motorway down for us so it’s just a whole load of bikes going down a closed stretch of motorway. It’s a lovely day out Plus you can go to cost for the museum after being in the cost for chill two birds with one stone

    Really enjoy your videos, beautiful white goldwing! That's a shame about your fuel injector & ecu problem, hopefully all your issues on the wing are over. I have a 2008 air bag model, I bought it in 2013, with 10,000 miles on it, excellent condition. I have put 60,000 on it since, mostly in the first 5 years. I average about 40 mpg, 1 up, but I like to twist the throttle sometimes a little to much. I think you are getting excellent mpg's , especially riding 2 up & luggage.
    The first time I rode the wing I was "hooked", fantastic bike, smooth, comfortable, & powerful, great for touring. I've had no problems with the wing, others then replacing tires. For the last 40,000 miles I've been running Dunlop American Elite tires, (tires were designed for the big Harleys), my mechanic suggested them, getting
    20,000+ miles on them. Great tires! Enjoy your time on your "Wing". You have some amazing views & history (castles) in your country. Cheers from Ohio, USA.

    Nice video. The bottom line is, bikes are machines and they run for many years in harsh conditions. They will have problems, that's how it is. Hondas are known to be an extremely reliable machines. For the past 30 years or so, the GW is showing just that and its known all over the world. I know riders with 150K -200K and the only thing they had to replace was a starter or wheel bearings. No bike company makes its bikes like Honda. I own 2020 DCT Tour. I have 15K on her and zero issues, so far. The best machine I have ever owned.

    Very nice commentary of your one year experience. Fingers crossed that the injector repair cost is just a one off and your 2023 figures will be much much lower. Overall and long term, I do think the cost of ownership is very reasonable. I seem to average around 42MPG on the open roads but I do tend to twist the throttle a bit and I see a noticeable drop in fuel efficiency. I love my Wing too.

      Thank you, and thanks also for commenting on the fuel efficiency. it's good to know I'm not too fgar out with what I'm achieving. I guess 50mpg (Imperial) isn't so bad with 2-up & luggage - and an inexperience Winger riding it!

    @michaelhoare5291 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    As Greg Ritz said, handlebar risers. Around £40 if I remember. Not only do they raise the bars slightly, they also move them aa little closer to you. Way more conformable. Mind you, try using the increase/decrease cruise control toggles, I do constantly on motorways unless traffic becomes conjested.

    • @fbglife
      @fbglife  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Michael, I have a few things to try now - starting from the cheapest & easiest up to bar risers. Or surgery to make me shorter :)
      I love having cruise control on a bike - never had it before and never realised how good it can be. I have used the increase/decrease buttons but, like you say, when the congestion build they're not so good. It's then that I notice my wrist hurting. Mind you, that is the ONLY part of me that has so far felt any kind of discomfort on this bike!

      I've tried using a crampbuster and whilst it did help I found it slightly intrusive on the throttle grip. The next step is to try a larger grip, like you suggested. I think not only will it shorten the rotation of the twist, it will also fit more comfortably in my hand. I don't have freakishly large hands but they are on the large side and that makes gripping smaller things less easy.

      Thank you Daren, we'll take a note and let you know when we make to Ireland, and whereabouts we'll be. We both would like to see as much of the country as possible, not just the tourist spots.

      Hi Susan, at which point in the video can you not hear Sarah? Is it all the way through, or just a short period?

    Have you looked into getting a car tyre on it 🤔 might be easier to source if your out and about.

      I have thought about that but I don't know how insurers look upon non-standard fitments.

    Why would u ride a 20K bike in January on UK wet, potentially icy roads, with the dreaded bike killing salt the moron councils keep dumping on it.
    My wing never saw rain intentionally, I was gutted to get caught in a monsoon in Wales during the summer.

      I think we just struck it unlucky Alex. The good news is the bike has been faultless since then and it's still a complete joy to ride!
