    I take the wet gritty mess found on and around my waterstones after sharpening and rub it into my strop for compound. Works a treat.

    I have liked watching you guys for some time now. I have never written a comment on any TH-cam video. I’m 62 and enjoy your videos immensely. Your videos are quick, to the point, and might i say hysterical. Never ever are you boring.....thank you. Some people think they need to tell you about how to open the box that it came in......really. Anyway 5 ways to improve your knife was spot on. Thanks again, and if you want to send a free knife that would cool.(not the reason I wrote the comment by the way.)

    Goodn info boys. Question; What would be a less expensive stone sharpening system suggestion?

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can achieve very good results with a fallkniven DC4, a leather strop and some good compound. For around $100,- you would be done. It’ll look less nice though and the results wont be as keen although it will still make your kife hair popping sharp

      @donjuanmckenzie4897 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stropping is massively overrated. As per Murray Carter you are basically sacrifcing sharpness for smoothness. Not that stropping doesn't have a place but an over stropped edge has basically no aggression or bite. For most knives you should do very minimal stropping to just remove any burr.

  • @squirrelsaga949

    Have you guys tried Arkansas stones? I have a hard stone that I use last and then strip and it is amazing. I am getting the “coarse” 1000 grit, Med and fine. They are stones found only in Arkansas, United States. If shipping wasn’t so damn expensive I would send you one.

  • @EarlyMist
    @EarlyMist 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Number 1 question: is a sharpening system such as a guided one worth it. I bought one for $450 from the US recently but haven't tested it. If it's not worth it I could sell it on. 2: by adding oil to a Micarta scale are you not attracting dirt etc? Or is that the opposite over time...like the oil clogs the pores?

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes, You can get rid of it using any sharpening stone like a fallkniven DC4 in combinaion with a strop.

  • @stefan-D
    @stefan-D 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    thanks. so you remove on every knive the secondary V Edge? So why do the factory it on it?

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      hey stefan, we do indeed. A v edge is the quickest way to put on a sharp edge saving money for the factories. It's also more fool proof making it look like the knife has better edge retention but greatly lowering the cutting capabilities
