    Well, I don’t know how cheap it would be, but if you really want to put a razor-edge on a knife, might I suggest using my ex-wife’s heart. It’s harder than friggin’ diamonds.

    Sandpaper is great, 400, 1000, 2500 then strop, crazy sharp and shiny if you do it right, only thing is its hard to keep a scandi grind, it goes a bit convex after a while.

    Great video as always guys. Here in Brazil is really hard and expensive to find a good sharpening stone. After trying a lot of sh*t ones i started using the bottom of a mug to sharp my EDC knives and my leather wallet to strop it and works really great, when i need a more fine sharpening i use sandpaper, 400 to 1800, with a e.v.a foam sheath underneath it and also gets an awesome result.

    Once I sharpened the knifes of my cousin`s wife. All on the back of plates and so. Honed on the smoth/glass side and all knifes were cutting good with exception of the chipped spots lol. Now I only have my 400 chosera, so I use the back of tiles to give a better finished before the strop. I`ve sharpened on tile alone many times, works pretty good.

  • @ERatiu

    Being poor, sandpaper is my only option right now. 5000 grit is the last step before the handmade "economy strop" (old piece of leather stuck on old piece of wood). I found some waterproof 25 X 25 cm sandpaper for 0.50€ each and I've been using them for a few months now, they're holding up pretty well. I get better results when wetting them just like a whetstone.

    Silicon Carbide "Emery paper" Glued (3m "Spray tack" which is basically Aerosol Rubber cement) to a smooth piece of Ceramic Tile makes a Superb Sharpening stone and you can buy a whole box of tiles for about $25 and each sheet of emery paper costs only about $1.25(US) and my local hardware store has ample supplies of Emery paper from 60Grit up to 1600grit (I do basically everything with either 320 or 400)

    Hi guys, yes, sharpening a knife on a kitchen sharpener is bad, what can happen with a knife, it is better to use a brick than her :) I have water stones, but I often use sandpaper I have a knife made from a saw blade rail , its hardness is 63-66 HRC, and it sharpen on sandpaper :)
    And the sandpaper, for example, 2500 after use clogs and becomes like 5000, and it does not need to be thrown away, you can use it to finish the blade :)

  • @danielcluley870
    @danielcluley870 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ceramic is not a dumb way to sharpen, but it is more finishing instead of cutting. It would take forever on something like 3v, prolly. I like diamond 600 to arkansas or waterstone and then 3 strop compounds. If I were in the field, though, I would just bring a 600 diamond rod or flat file and then belt strop for ease and less carry weight.

    I use sandpaper to sharpen the knives I sell, I put a skandivex grind on them and they become ridiculously sharp, I’ve cut myself so many times while sharpening without even realising. But you don’t go perpendicular to the edge like on a stone, you run parallel to the edge with a flat piece of timber so you don’t scratch it when it slips

    Nail pads (the fine-grit ones with 3 different grits on a stick of hard foam) work pretty well, too. Takes some time, but they weigh next to nothing, are cheap so you can stuff one in a pack or bag to touch up a knife while away from home and your large waterstones. The edges of car-door windows work similar to plates - also ceramic (glass).
