    • @-Agis-
      @-Agis- 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      So far mine has held up fine. But haven't put it through any hard use yet. Some carving and some food prepping.
      It has a somewhat flimsy plastic feel to it, not very confidence-inspiring.
      The quality of the nylon belt loop is a joke, and the knife still rattles in the sheath..but you have to actually try. Retention is ok.
      The sharpening sticks in the Pro kit could be compared to grinding your teeth on the curb..but if that's all you have, I guess it kind of works.
      Overall 7/10

    • @Shadow_Hawk_Streaming
      @Shadow_Hawk_Streaming 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Yeah, there's a balance between capability, lifespan, and cost.
      The tool brands Silverline and duratool are good examples for cheap and capable but low durability, only exception I've found is duratool's HSS drillbits which have been surprisingly good.
      Then you have cheap but durable stuff such as the lidl and Aldi tool brands Parkside and workzone, their power tools are bomb-proof, but I wouldn't trust their measuring tools or squares, because overall quality is rather low

    Sharpening with sandpaper is more common for those who use these in construction and carpentry, and you can get by with just a few euros using the 600, 800, 1000/1200 and 2000 grit papers and water. The DC4 is good for hikers but not worth it imo. There's better deals for diamond files already in the 300 to 600 grit range from hardware stores, that also work fast for a toothy edge that bites well into fibrous materials. The only downside is poor diamond distribution and quality control, but we're also talking about just your average workers with no regard for surface finish or even removing the burr (which can be done with the same stones given enough skill).
    Sorry for ranting about sharpening a 2,50€ knife

    Is it strange that, whenever analyzing toughness vs edge retention, I am asking myself, "Okay, but which one is good for meat... hitting bone regularly, running into a flak vest here and there...?
    I want edge retention because, after slicing through so many arterteries, my wrist can weaken a bit. But I don;t want to be without my little buttdy or have to keep digging my broken blades out of... whatever... for subsequent evidence burial. No one has that kind of time when you're being hunted by the mob with their pitchforks and torches."

  • @John5.56
    @John5.56 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Wait, this might be a genuinely stupid question but the way I was taught stainless vs carbon steel is generally speaking (not always) stainless steels will typically hold an edge a bit better and not corrode as easily, where a carbon blade is typically softer so they won’t hold an edge as long but they’re better suited for hard use, that’s why a lot of larger knives and machetes etc will use steels like 1055,1075,1095 etc. Is that complete nonsense, or does one typically have certain inherent properties?

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well it certainly is not always nonsense! Stainless steel wants to break and carbon steel wants to bend. But in mora’s case the carbon steel holds a better edge as well. But nowadays stainless steels can be so crazy good (like elmax) dat it will outperform the majority of carbon steels. Cheers mate!!
