    Your video was INCREDIBLE! I am so proud of everything you guys are accomplishing for the knife community around the world. I watch your first video every week to remind myself (speaking as a Father and Grandfather) how very much you have both accomplished for the "Knife People" of the world. You are both "AMBASSADORS OF THE BLADE" to the whole darn world!!!
    I bought the Mora Garberg Carbon-Steel knife, with Mora's absolutely FIRST CLASS leather sheath from the kind and generous people at the Mora Shop 2 weeks ago and was able to start using it last week as my "Fire Knife" - and it is AWESOME! I thank the people at Mora who made this awesome, beautiful knife possible as well as the people who manufacture it and the people who make this gorgeous leather sheath.
    And Guys, YOUR VIDEO IS FABULOUS! The good news is that we all have a choice with the Garberg - if its humid and we are heading out the door, we can take the stainless Garberg. If the weather is hot or just plain sunny, we can carry the Garberg Carbon knife (which makes more sparks with my ferro-rod, in my opinion). You DBK Guys are right again!

    If you're going to include a flint fire test, which the stainless can't do, then you should also have a stain resistance test - some salt water should do the trick.

    I love that the carbon steel is easier to sharpen, makes it easy to ensure you've always got a good edge (The number of scars I have on my hands from dulled blades slipping is pretty high...)
    On the other hand, I also love that the stainless doesn't require as much maintenance to stop rust, especially as I live in a place where it's almost always raining xD

      Actually, they wanted to come out with a carbon steel version first. But they just did not get the heat treatment right and were not satisfied with the performance of the carbon steel Garberg. So they released the stainless steel one first as the 14C28N turned out to be less of a pain in the axx for that kind of knife.
      Still, I wish they had upgraded the steel from their usual C100 to something better like 80CrV2.

      @@waldgeist9007 You're wrong.It's called marketing. they already had the heat treatment on that steel, because they make a ton knives with that, for decaes now. They also make a very similar knife made of that carbon steel called Bushcraft Black. I don't know where you got that, but it's all marketing. 80crv2 is tougher than their carbon, but wouldn't hold it's edge that long. No user would notice the toughness upgrade. Also, I get better edge stability, from the carbon Moras, rather than the 80crv2 scandi knives I have from Finland... Now, if you would say, Ballbearing steel, instead of 80crv2, I wouldn't disagree there! IT's an alloy steel, that would improve all factors, but wouldn't cost much more, if not the same..

  • @levkvarner9865
    @levkvarner9865 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Thank you guys it was a really intresting comparison. At first glance you could think that because the stainless has more ingredients it could be superior to the carbon steel.
    In the past 4 years I am using carbon steel knives for outdoor activities with very good results. I will be honest I have never oiled any of them I just keep them clean and I have never ever had rust on them. Certainly they got taste if you prepare food with them and surely they will have some black stains on the surface but I really love the toughness and the easiness of sharpening on my carbon steel blades. I really love sharpening but if you using a knife as a tool It can be a huge pro that you can fix it in couple minutes and It is tried and proved.
    Personally I think this Garberg in carbon is a bit over priced. For just a bit more you could buy a Kabar BK2. For much less you can buy a cheap carbon Mora 711. I have got a Kabar BK10 very tough steel not perfect knife but very reliable. This price is just not perfect I would say for this package it should be around 60 euros.

    • @harvesterbladeco
      @harvesterbladeco 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I mean, a Bk2 has a bad sheath, and slippery handles, not to mention it's like twice as thick ( it's a different kind of knife). It also doesn't have a sharp spine. Both are great, but the Bk2 is so much better assessment isn't.

    • @shamitoson
      @shamitoson 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The mora cuts 10 better than the bk2. It’s a real knife, the bk2 is kinda silly. I have one btw. Stipped it convexed it, but it’s just too thick for a knife that short.

      Not minimal at all. Sandviks are great budget steels, some of thetoughest stainless steels out there.However the amount of tme it takes to sharpen or even worse, to reprofile them, is night and day with the 1095'ish steel that they use on their carbon blades. Huge difference not minimal.Same goes for the stain resistance, where the Sandvik has huge difference in stain resistance,from the carbon. Even the edge retention difference is not minimal but more than noticable.

    Given two identical knives except for the steel I would pick the carbon unless the stainless was one of the newer versions of super steel.
    I just like how it's normally easier to sharpen carbon steel blades and they are usually a little tougher.
    I've got a lot of knives and rust has never really been a problem. And its not hard to remove if it is caught soon enough.
    I also like a knife with a nice patina, it gives it character and makes it one of a kind. As far as other blades go such as axes, swords and machetes I won't buy any of them in stainless.

    Just got my second Mora Garberg in carbon steel. I cannot find one imperfection on this knife. I like how this knife is not painted, it is blued. Well guys and gals, I'm hooked on Mora.

    • @greekveteran2715
      @greekveteran2715 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Actually it's a thin coating and it's not blued. Nothing is perfect in nature and that's true for the Garberg too. It's handle material is very poor and it also doesn't feel good in your hands. After some use it starts to chip and look ugly and if you live in a hot area, just a hot summer day, can melt that handle. Another imperfection, is the fact that it doesn't have neither a true scandi edge nor a convexed one, which would be far more ideal (Fallkniven and Bark Rivers, are famous and considered the best out there , for that single reason). The sheath for the price you pay, is also VERY poor. Check out Ka-Bar Mark 1 with Kraton handles and non serated plain edge. It costs the same where I live, but it can do way more than the Garberg can and every single detail on it, is of better quality, than any Mora. PS I am not biased, as an American would be. I come from Crete Island of Greece, the place with the longest history (on Earth), on knives.

      Ka-bar's have a weak tang.
      Mora's are a better choice. For me. Ka-bar's don't have the edge right up to the handle as Mora's do.
      Look at the video of the DBK boys, how easy the USMC knife had the tang bent and than broken.
      I personally rate the Bushcraft Black much higher than the Garberg.
      But this is personal I think..I like the rubber grip.
      Btw, many hate on Ka-bar's Kraton. They feel it's too weak, damages easily.
      To claim that the Ka-bar Mark 1 is of better quality than any Mora, is pure BS.
      Stop that nonsense man. You might like Ka-bar. But it's definitely the better knife.

In terms of performance it's night and day. Ka-Bars holds their edge way longer than any Moram NEVER chip as Moras always do and in the same time are as easy, if not easier to sharpen. Mark !, comes with the one of the best factory sheaths out there. In my opinion you have to use your knives more and watch TH-cam less, because both are the reasons, you attack me. I'm sure the Garberg Carbon is a great knife but I can't imagine it's much of a step up from a bushcraft black in any area but price? I cut some Moras open and they way they are designed with the 3/4 tang and those clever moulded on shock absorbing handles you can basically treat them as full tang.
    By the way. You two should take a modern look at the Mora Pathfinder. It just doesn't seem fair how the knife world is missing out on this knife because of how it was I initially recieved. It's one of Moras best knives to date.
