Here's Why The 2019 Ford Edge ST Is a Fine Crossover But Not a True ST

  • ( www.TFLcar.com ) The 2019 Ford Edge ST has a big Twin Turbo V6 engine, and yes, it is quick in a straight line. But it is missing the soul and character of a true performance Ford ST Vehicle.

It's a crossover not a small compact car. What did you expect? A Miata? If Ford didn't put ST on it you would look at it in the same way. I just bought one after cross shopping a Santa Fe, Mazda CX5 and a Honda Passport. It hauls about the same same cargo but the performance is in another league! I don't give a dam n how fast you can go around d a corner, actually have a Miata RF for that and a Shelby GT500 for real fast. What it does it does well. It's quiet, comfortable and seats are good. The only thing g that I don't like is the digital dash. I have to add that I bought a leftover 2019, loaded for under 39,500. Not a bargain for 50K but real good considering he 40K competition!

I traded my 2019 Mustang GT for the 2019 Ford Edge ST and this is why: I had three F-150 but it was time for a change, I bought the 2019 Mustang GT and absolutely love this car hands down!!!, However I live in a snow belt and I just don’t have the heart to drive my Mustang GT in the winter!, What I needed was something in between hence The 2019 Ford Edge has good performance and all wheel drive and I can tow up to 3500 lbs and I bought with the performance package the same colour and black out like my Mustang GT Bring winter on! 😎🏁

The new 2019 Ford Edge ST First off its a SUV not a car, Yes it’s a SUV ST that you should of compared to other SUV in the market and you did see this?, What kind of car reviewers are you?, You say there’s not enough head room? Well try putting the seat down and lean back the back rest, The shifting knob I do agree with you.....nobody likes them!, Also note: The 2019 Ford Edge ST also share the 2.7 litre out of the F-150 and can also be boosted to ready for this 540hp and 583lbs of torque, Know fact check out 2.7 boosted on TH-cam, With this kind of power in a 2019 Ford ST you’d be pulling away from police interceptors if that is your thing lol,

Finally a person that gets it. We just got DUMPED ON with snow here in SE Michigan. It was fun watching those sunny day, California proper cars like the Mustangs and Chargers, spin all over the place because of the snow.
Don’t get me wrong I LOVE Mustangs but they aren’t a daily driver here in Michigan. I watched many Mustangs and Camaro’s spin out into a median or ditch because the owner could only afford one car and that car wasn’t made for snow.

Ford is just using their ST badge to sell another $50k mom-mobile grocery getter. The badge stopped meaning anything once they decided to ax the focus & fiesta, which were truly fun cars with great handling and manual transmissions. This move is another example of an OEM destroying an enthusiast brand to cater to the lowest common denominator in the name of sales. I cant wait till the mustang is a small 4 door crossover...

I just spent $52K for a $56.5K MSRP Lincoln Nautilus in Reserve trim with the same 2.7 liter turbo engine and all options. For about the same money, it is much more luxurious and better styled than the Ford Edge ST, both inside and out. It also has the adaptive suspension that is surprisingly useful in adjusting the driving experience. Clearly, the Lincoln is delivers better value than the Ford. I am thoroughly enjoying my Lincoln, but I wouldn’t call it sporty.

I love the Lincoln but it really isn't even close in price. For the same price of the Lincoln I could have gotten an Audi SQ5. Both are not in my budget and it would have been a hard choice since I don't trust Audi for more than a 3 year lease and the Lincoln would be significantly down on performance compared.

Did you really expect a 5k pound vehicle to drive with the same characteristics of the focus st? Drive the Sport and the ST back to back and you will see there is a pretty significant difference. I also think if you're going review how it drives you should drive it more than around the block while you're making the video. I'm sure your viewers would have liked to see you push it hard on the highway and in the turns. I agree 52k isn't cheap but the Jeep SRT is 70k. True the SRT will out perform it but it will also eat a lot more fuel and 20k is 20k and at the end of the day they are just SUVs

I have driven my grandparents new Edge and I am 6' 5", pretty evenly split between legs and torso, and I find it very comfortable when the seat is lowered all the way, put all the way back, and slightly reclined. It's a personal opinion and I respect that, I just wanted to post this so prospective buyers are not totally turned off by your comment about it being cramped when you're 6' 2" to 6' 3". Again, 6' 5" here and I can comfortably drive it when I'm not plastered back in the seat because of the power😁

coelho sports, I've only been on vacation in SoFL (last time was like 10 years back), but it sounds to me Ford loaned them that Edge ST in Aventura, the higher-income town on the Dade-Broward border (not far from FL's largest mall Of the same name). Those streets over there tend to go mostly in a circle and there's not terrible amount of traffic outside the nearby of the mall.
Could be wrong, though... Some local would clarify.
BTW, the Edge's problem is the same as the Fusion from where it was based (also on the Regal TourX wagon): it was made from a too heavy platform to begin with. If the Fusion came about -200-300lbs. it would've be a whole different story, even with the EB'd 2.7 (same engine as the Fusion Sport, but with a slight more kick to it), which do have on paper the right numbers, but have to carry a platform that's not nimble enough for the size.

coelho sports, thanks! I appreciate that you correct me (not everybody does that). And yeah, that part of SW FL seems the kind of "sightseeing kind of place" automakers would send the press to "test" (Really?) their cars under their conditions.
Even as Explorers are as a percentage a lesser sell to fleets lately I'd figure you can probably find an ex-lease Explorer ST or up line Aviator (w/the more powerful EB'd 3.0L) for quite cheap (40-50% of original MSRP) in as soon as 2-2.5 years, as Explorers (by their "lack of heavydutiness", just ask most cops) doesn't historically tend to hold their value well at all...

From what i have researched is the transmission is one of the downfalls. Its the same 6 speed out of the lower trims of the Edge but they added 2 extra gears which makes it feel wired. Added a gear between 1st and 2nd so now the 2nd gear from the 6 speed is now 3rd. Also added a gear between 5th and 6th so the 6th gear is now your 8th gear. So kinda of a bunch of short and long gears Ford cheaped out on this.

Plus.... 5 to 7 years in when you decide to sell both cars, you won't take near the shit-kicking on the Ford's resale as you will on the Audi. Don't forget guys, you missed one big fact in the review, this Edge ST is so much faster than any Tesla. It has a 0-Done rate, which is so much quicker. A minor prang won't keep it in a garage for months, or have the potential to bankrupt you if not covered by insurance. Plus most mechanics won't bat an eyelid if you ask them to work on it, or service it. Yes Tesla has increased production rates, but don't seem to have the infrastructure up to speed for current owners.

The Edge ST and soon to be Explorer ST allow people to drive an SUV, with all the advantages, and yet still has some fun. It will never be a Mustang or a Hell Cat 😂. Love it for what it is a fun daily driver SUV.

Vehicle driven to the test. Nice interior and exterior I like. However, despite the 238 hp in the car feels nothing progress. The acceleration behavior is significantly worse than comparable Mercedes, BMW or Audi with almost 60 hp less! In addition, it rappels in many places (dashboard right, crackling combi instrument, rattling B-pillar near underbody). And you can hear that even when the radio is on. Squealing the brakes in a vehicle that has driven nearly 2000km, is also not normal. Very high ad-blue consumption. In addition, the vehicle has probably been taken out of the production line. In any case, according to information from Ford as of July 2019, the vehicle will not be built until November 2019. What's going on there??
