Even though I know this car is going to be very split on opinions, I did have an awesome time driving it and I have an autocross video coming - this thing DOMINATED. I was incredibly against this car when I flew out so it was cool to get a feel for it. What do you guys think of the Edge ST?
Im still perplexed by Ford ditching those cars. Maybe its a location thing but here in So Cal there are tons of Fiestas, Focus and Fusions. Its not like they are not selling. Nothing wrong with a performance SUV (you should try to get some time in an BMW X5M) but there are still bunch of people that want CARs not SUVs. SUVs are sort of the new Minivan and there were and still are many people that WILL NOT BUY a minivan.
ThatDudeinBlue The one concern I have is not the SUV part of it or performance because yes it makes sense with the way Ford is going. The big concern I have is that an ST has always been a manual. And even the head of Ford Performance when he came in Jay Leno to show the Focus ST a few years ago he even said ST’s only come in manual. And I get it in today’s world especially in North America manuals are dying and thats just the world we live in but. The ST line just like Si line for Honda was made for car enthusiasts and I guess its sad to see them go from there core. Yes the performance is there but it hurts to see that they did away of the stick and three pedals. I know for sure it’s a great car just disappointing that some of it is gone.
mike mims The reason why theyre is because it just isn’t financially feasible for them to continue making it. When they looked at their financials they were barely breaking even with there car market and the SUV, trucks and mustangs were the only thing that was making them business. And if you know anything about financials breaking even is still a loss.
Yes, but I and most others don't care. We like fun noises and burnouts. 90% of driving is done under 60 mph/100 kmh and V8s will always feel and sound better at low speeds.
@@Trussme96 Read any review comparing the 3.5 and 5.0. The Coyote is a torqueless engine off idle. The EcoBoost has power throughout the entire powerband. The only thing the Coyote has going for it is sound, reliability, and a lower cost.
DuckHead Moto exactly how I feel. I have a 17 ST2. And this. In comparison. Seems pathetic. An ST is suppose to be a performance car. Not park itself and auto stop for me.
Pokey ive done more construction work in my ST than most people with short bed pickups. And hauled 5 people plenty of times. So their excuse about the extra storage and family car abilities are kind of invalid. Lol
I’ll be keeping my ‘17 FoST as well. I’ve already grown tired of this whole “Crossover” fad. If I want a SUV I’d want either a Jeep or truck based SUV.
I was privileged to talk one of the engineers of the vehicle and it wasn't meant to replace the RS and ST - it had already been in development when they were killed off. It is unfortunate timing though. The thing is a beast in autocross.
Loaded Focus RS-$42,000 dollars = win. Loaded Edge ST - $53,800 dollars= fail. I will be 47 years old in December and when we start talking nearly $55,000 dollars there are a lot of other vehicles that I would consider first for me and my family. I’m more of a performance sedan guy. I find it hard to believe the majority want a SUV.
no one who wants a performance anything wants a suv or crossover.... and if they did there are much more appealing options for the price they want for this a durango r/t,X3 M40i,amg gla 45,amg glc 43,macan s or a bunch other options would come first in some ones mind not a kinda quick ford edge.... they basically shot them self in the foot by killing all of there performance vehicles besides the mustang and then replacing them with some thing that is lesser then what there competitors offer in a similar price range
I hear yea man, for the same amount of cash I would rather get a Cadillac CT6 with the basic 335hp 3.6 naturally aspirated V6 that runs on regular gas, it is classy, comfortable and has the brand name
It won't be 55k. The base price is 43k and there is already a $1000.00 rebate on it now. With discount you can get the base ST for close to 40K. Later in the year the rebates will be higher. You have to click off every single box including things you don't need to get to mid 50's. Well equipped it will be in the mid to upper 40's.
@@rotart12arx3 yeah........no. You add the performance brakes to make sure this thing stops and it adds on a full package that sets you back an extra 8k so now you are looking at 50k! Lame that the brakes this thing should have standard are only available in a package that is 8k.
At the end of the day, it’s still an suv. No suspension tuning or engineering can get rid of the sheer weight of an suv. Straight line speed aside, extra weight is a very noticeable negative in a performance vehicle. I can understand the appeal of a fast suv, but not as a replacement for a hot hatch. I suppose from a business perspective this makes sense, but I just have this suspicion that this edge wont sell as well as they are hoping.
KyoKyoM99 I would Agree with you but it doesn't weigh that much , 4400 lbs for an SUV is not heavy, fusion sport is almost 4200 lbs . Look at challenger weight , a lot of cars weigh as much or almost as much nowadays . Apparently if this thing handles as well as he says weight isn't too much of a factor
Rice ETR I understand your point, but you even said “for an suv.” And yes, 4400 lbs is pretty light for an suv, but its still an entire 1000 lbs heavier than the focus rs and wrx. And David did say that it handled pretty well. And I forget who it was that said it, but more power makes you faster in a straight line, and less weight makes you faster everywhere. But its not just the weight, the center of gravity of an suv is inherently higher. But our American mindset always prevails lol. Bigger is better. Maybe it will work then, because perhaps the reason people buy focus and fiesta st’s is to get a hotter version of a car they want. And I’m sure the edge sells pretty well, so a hotter version could sell. But the reason people have such a bitter taste about this is because they’re scrapping all their existing cars. Idk whenever the next oil crisis hits, all the gas guzzling suvs will end up in scrap yards and small cars will come back.
Rice ETR Also I have an ‘82 Toyota Celica. It’s sub 2400 lbs. Not sure how much because its stripped out behind the driver’s seat. Talk about a light, fun little car lol
Not to mention that it is an actual body-on-frame SUV that will be great offroad rather than some cookie cutter crossover that parents buy because they are too insecure about owning a minivan or station wagon.
Hopefully not a front wheel drive driven most the time like the Edge and Explore. Should be the same as a pickup drivetrain. Jeep Grand Cherokee are rear driven most the time like the pickups are. The small version Jeep Cherokee is like the edge drivetrain. Which i not a fan. I do like edge though lol.
We’re a little disappointed, but if they’re getting rid of the fun little cars, at least they’re bringing some rwd based ones. Ranger/Bronco, and next explorer. Maybe the next edge will be rwd, or a new smaller escape sized rwd car for the replacement of all these fun small cars.
Daniel Summey You just contradicted yourself by saying they aren’t cheap and that they’re inexpensive lmao I said CHEAPER not cheap smart ass and really? because just the other day I recall driving by a focus only meet with at least 30-40 focus STs in one city I don’t know why you’re so butt hurt there’s plenty of people that bought them I see at least 5 different focuses or more a day in my area Ford cut them because the majority of their market comes from parents or others that want family cars
Apparently that market wasn't bringing in the money for Ford in the US. So, I'm pretty sure they don't care. I have seen zero fiesta ST's near me and just a hand full of focus STs and I live in a major city.
Nobody can afford this that can afford a real ST or wants one, they are cutting off ties with the enthusiasts. Most enthusiasts do not want a giant SUV I want something that looks good and drives good with a manual transmission. VW has the whole hot hatch market in the US now. I don't think I would even consider Ford anymore to buy a vehicle from. I will go elsewhere for a cheap performance car because Ford has disappointed me.
they are not cutting off ties, they are trying to remarket their "Sport" models to ST models because essentially that's what they're supposed to be.. As for the hot hatch market, there's the Corolla XSE and the Civic Si Hatchback..
@@AndrewSVO A base Corolla? Not a hot hatch, and they do not make a Si hatch.... Yes they are cutting ties. They no longer make affordable, fun sports cars for the mass market. An ST could be had new for as little as 15k, at that price you could purchase 3 Fiesta STs for the price of one Edge "ST". A base Mustang is 10k more than an ST. Ford was one of the few people making affordable performance cars and they cut ties with people that wanted the great options Ford had. They were killing it before and I was glad we had an American company making sports versions of all of their cars. They got rid off all of them besides the Mustang and I am not buying an SUV as someone who likes going around corners in a nimble and reasonably weighted car.
@@Mk5_Life They are direct competitors to the GTI. 200-250hp hot hatches with a manual transmission and great handling with the typical hatch practicality. The GTI might be more luxurious but they are both great cars in the same price point that compete directly
There’s bound to be SOME enthusiasts that have kids or have actual use for the space in an SUV. Sure, it might not be your cup of tea but fuck it. It’s at least here for someone.
Sports cars turning into SUVs, manual transmissions disappearing, and with electric cars on the rise it's kind of depressing being a car enthusiast these days. Putting a v6 twin turbo in a soccer mom crossover. like I'm gonna roll up to a car meet and break necks with my wicked grocery getter...i hope this bombs
MaxSpeed bullshit soccer moms love to go fast lol, remember this comment when you have a soccer mom all on your ass blowing the horn for you to move out the way 😂😂😂
The RS and st did not sell well in the states mainly because a 50 year old man is not gonna buy a st or RS over a mustang GT and kids now a days don't know how to drive stick or want to learn I never new how to drive stick until I got my st
I gotta disagree, heres why. Soccer mom wants a crossover, goes to dealership. Soccer mom likes the Edge, but soccer mom also is great financially. Soccer mom asks salesman, "What's the nicest Edge?" Salesman shows soccer mom the ST (knowing this will bring him more commission than even the Titanium trim), soccer mom notices it's more expensive than all the other Edge trims. Soccer mom thinks to herself "hmmm it must be the best one if it cost the most." Soccer mom gets the loan and drives off the lot, not knowing or caring what ST means. Unlike the Fiesta and Focus ST, there isn't some super aggressive recaro seats and a stick shift greeting her when she opens the door. So I think plenty of middle class suburb moms will buy this car.
@@derrekmcfarlane7872 huh, okay then, well it doesn't matter to me because I'm living in the UK, I just heard about the edge st at auto car. But that was interesting to know thanks for the news.
It is the EXACT same truck. My wife drives a 2015 Edge Sport and it has every single option this new ST has and had them 4 years ago. There is nothing new on this thing besides the paint and a badge. This is a failure on every level.
I'm a Fost owner that will not be getting a edge. I've never known anyone that's bought it since it came out. It's to expensive for the market that bought the focus/Fiesta ST and for the money 40k you can get way nicer vehicles like the 4runner/Tacoma while also for the price it's not fast. The focus RS for the same price is 1sec 0-60 faster than the edge not to mention all the other options at 40k like the camaro, Mustang, WRX Sti, 370z among many others. There is just to much competition at that price point compared to the focus and Fiesta ST where you could get into one for between 17k-24k.
@@baileyf1998 For some of us practicality matters. Driving an RS around is not nearly as comfortable as driving the Edge ST. The RS has a notoriously harsh ride compared to any ST. The reason they are killing the cars is because they can sell the suvs and trucks for a lot more. The problem I think ford is missing the point that sales will fall as people flock to other brands to avoid the SUV and Truck premium prices. Everything coming out of ford lately is getting really expensive.
Lol soccer moms, people that has families and married guys buy suv and trucks even more than cars here in united states , don't blame ford for it they are just go with the flow with the other companies blame the people that wants more space more than speed
xRLxMayhem - this was my analysis as well. I feel like Ford just thinks everyone will be brand loyal and be forced upmarket to an SUV. But there are still plenty of people who don't want to compromise fuel economy and handling for off road capability that no one ever uses. Those people will jump ship and move to one of the many other brands still offering sedans, hatchbacks, and wagons. CAT MARIO - this isn't 1992 anymore.
@@Dolby109 dosent matter if it's 1992 or 2018 people will buy cars that has more space and capacity here in united states and that's a fact even single people will buy suv because they need for their lifestyle
I know I'm in the minority here, being an old guy with kids and a 2016 Ford Edge, but I actually like it. The Ford Edge ST isn't necessarily a dumb idea...Ford ditching most of their cars is a dumb idea.
I have owned 2 Edge's, 2015 and 2018, and they are quiet, ride well and even with the 2.0 liter they have some power. Get the sport and you really will have some fun. I agree Ford getting rid of the Focus is stupid, unless the Skyactive Focus comes over from Europe. The Taurus didn't sell, Fiesta didn't sell, Fusion will go a few more years. The difference from our thinking and many that post here, it that we have owned them, while most of the people here have not. They bash almost every review on You Tube and will never own one or anything like it.
The package is somehow interesting. But I dont like the look of it tbh. - especially the rear is ugly. Im glad I live in Europe at this point. I'd never change my Focus RS Mk2 and Fiesta ST Mk8 for a Performance SUV. Are prices for used Focus RS and Fiesta ST are going up now in the US?
@@jacobsiekmann426 it sucks to the humble SUV like the Jeep Wrangler and Toyota 4runner because marketing companies put the name "SUV" on what is essentially a lifted wagon.

@@turnip5465 hardly relevant or a reasonable comparison. Mitsubishi is somehow keeping the Lancer here for now, but the Evo only existed because of the STi and overall it was quite pointless to their business. Then they didn't make the Evo into a crossover, they built the all new Eclipse Cross... Which is entire unrelated to the long past Eclipse, simply a returning name which is also easy for the business.
It is not that I have a problem that they are making an ST trim of the Edge, it is that they are taking away the cars. As a Taurus SHO owner... I put money where they are saying there isn't enough.
Yea......I have the 14 Focus ST and a 17 Fiesta ST. I feel like Ford took a big crap on me by dropping both of the cars I have and was thinking of a new focus ST to replace the older one. Owning a 2017 Edge Sport which is the predecessor to the ST. I love it. Great performance, comfort, ride, room and technology. I'm not happy with Ford pulling the plug on their car in the US, but I wanted an SUV and the Sport checked all the boxes I was looking for. Now with the ST, Ford has added a few more ponies and offers better brakes as an option. You need to look at this vehicle from all perspectives. It's a great SUV that performs well, handles well and people well while adding good looks inside and out. Luxury features and after test driving several other brands of SUV's. The Edge was an easy choice at what I feel was a reasonable price with all the amenities included in an SUV that runs 0-60 times around 5.6 seconds
I just bought a 2021 edge st and absolutely love it. Wish I could do more mods without voiding the warranty. Only thing done is a cold air intake and made it noticeably better and sounds great.
My mom bought a Toyota CHR, it has a auto stick but you can move it over to manual mode. You move it off to the side then bang up to go up and down to go down. Thatd fit so well in this
I had a blast out there driving the Edge ST with you and everyone else. Still amazed at how well it out performed my preconceptions of it, especially coming from a Focus ST and my current RS. Definitely dividing the car world and it will for sure surprise alot of people!
I just bought a 2019 ST today and I Love it...I have 3 kids and need space...its nice to have the power and the refinement. I came from a 2014 edge sport and maybe the ST is a glorified sport but for a daily driver and to have some fun with the power why not...
I never considered the Edge an SUV and I still don't, crossovers to me are just lifted cars to give people that "High road presence". Unless they have Off-Road Capability (even tho most people will never take them off roading) I consider them SUVs.
Honestly everyone says they want an st but all the dealerships around me are full of them. I went to look for an ST and there was one in every color. The salesmen told me no ones buying them.
I own a 2015 Focus ST and love it. If I were able to afford an SUV at the moment, I would have no problem taking a serious look at the Edge ST. I think the concept is fun and practical. Being a big Honda fan, I have to say, Ford is winning me over.
This is not an SUV, it's a crossover. SUVs are truck-based body on frame vehicles and crossovers are unibody car-based vehicles. SUVs are almost always better for towing or off-roading (although there are some exceptions). Crossovers also hurt SUVs. In fact only 16 (9 if you count badge engineered variants) true SUVs still sold. They are the GM SUVs (Chevy Tahoe and Suburban, GMC Yukon, and Cadillac Escalade) The upcoming Ford Bronco Ford Expedition/Lincoln Navigator Jeep Wrangler Mercedes Benz G Wagon Nissan Armada/Infiniti QX80 Toyota Sequoia Toyota Land Cruiser/Lexus LX Toyota 4runner/Lexus GX.
yeah over here in australia we have some mad cars, but that's dying fast. holden decided to turn their commodore into shit and the falcon is a thing of the past. Its quite sad. Europe and Japan imo are the only places in the world where in the next 20 years will still have a somewhat cool market for cars.
Not completely. At least they still make the Mustang GT, Ford GT350, GT500 (Soon to release). Whereas Mitsubishi just made away with everything they had that was sporty or nice.
Who knows if it's a good idea? It cant replace the Focus RS because there is a HUGE performance gap. It can't replace the Focus ST because there is a HUGE handling and price gap. Current ST buyers are unlikely candidates for those reasons, IMO.
You do realise the ST and RS's will never die in Europe. We have had them for YEARS and will continue to have them. The Escort RS Cosworth is a pure British icon and honestly I had a picture of one on my bedroom wall since I was young. The day I got a ride in one was a dream. My dad owned a Sierra Coswroth too and that thing made ALL the right noises.
So there’s a chance of an RS version as well, also maybe the possibility of a manual transmission option too. That would be interesting to see it lower wider lighter and with more power and a MT! Oh and supposedly the RS would actually have real torque vectoring instead of just breaking inside wheel like an ST.
Was patiently waiting for this video...as a focus st owner I'm glad they at least came out with SOME type of semi performance vehicle. Also I really hope it's easy to modify and run more boost !
The edge st seemed like a cool idea but its still not fast so as a sort of sporty SUV I'd rather go with the Forrester only because there's so much 3rd party support especially from subiespeed. You can customize a Forrester way more and make it your own compared to any other smaller suv
Great review. Informing & entertaining AF. Love the vehicle, and I've been closely watching/reading many of its reviews. I've put a deposit on a loaded out one that's inbound from the factory, & look forward to trading in my '16 Edge Titanium. Thanks, David.
Yeah yeah twin turbo this and all wheel drive that but seriously good luck selling an SUV like this to a car enthusiast and good luck getting a regular person to shell out an extra couple thousand for performance that they don't care about. Bad move in my books...
Literally been out since 2015 and called the Edge Sport. They took the truck, slapped ST badges on it and are charging a premium. Failure because they are trying to monopolize on the ST brand by recycling the ST name on an existing model and toting that its "brand new" when it is not at all.
Definitely looking at these in the future but I’m curious to see if Chevrolet responds to ford with their version of the blazer with a SS model hopefully
I'm late coming into this, just bought a 2024, possibly the last year for the Edge. Bought the St and it is awesome! A true performance suv. Thanks for the awesome video. Heading to Park City in June, can't wait!
I understand why they built this we as car people have always understood companies build "for the average non car person" car so they can make other more fun cars, but the problem is now they are trying to make the "for the average non car person" into "non car person"/ car enthusiast cars to please everyone at once. that just doesn't work if make a to please everyone its going to fail because nobody is going to completely happy. the cars will always be something you have to make an excuse for, like this car is a lot of fun... for a cross-over instead of the car just being a lot of fun.
Ugh. It's a piece of shit AWD minivan with the ST badge and a decent engine slapped in. I have an Escape with the Duratec V6. I like the engine. But it's an Escape. A front wheel drive soft roading blocky minivan. It is not an enthusiast's vehicle no matter what you do to it.
@@johnshukeireh5804 While these vehicles claim to be SUVs, they are not body on frame and not good for off road driving or towing, so they can not be SUVs. They are CROSSOVERS. I think its a good execution of a shitty idea. Crossover=inferior vehicle for hitting curbs in the Target parking lot and backing into poles. Turning one into a "performance" car is a terrible idea.
I have a 2013 Edge Sport and I love it! I’ve got 167000 miles on it now and I’m about the upgrade to the Edge ST! I’ve had Zero problems, brakes, spark plugs, tires and that’s it!
I think Ford needs to do a 700 horsepower version of the Edge called the the Razor Edge and using a heavily overbuilt version of the 3.5 Twin turbo Ecoboost V6.
Cole Carson Yeah basically but Ford should at least make the engine strong enough for even greater power. If Ford actually built it, it would be stupid of them to price the Edge to Cherokee Trackhawk money and it be slower.
Weird, I'm 6'4" around 315 and have no trouble driving my 2016 Edge. Perhaps the ST seats are a bit thicker, but even the Sport I didn't have issues with head room.
It wouldn't be a dumb idea if Ford wasn't killing off the other ST cars. The marketing behind it, and its purpose is dumb because they are touting this car as the successor to both of those, and the biggest problem with with that is its price point; it starts higher than a fully loaded Focus RS.
Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe ford said they were going to keep the focus hatch?? Idk. Maybe I’m just sad cause I’m 15 and want a focus st but ya know now it’s gonna be collectible so it’ll be to expensive
Ehh, I wouldn't be too worried. Ford made plenty of FoST and they're not exactly appriciating at the moment (you can 2018 ST1's new for 19k in certain areas, which is a steal) I don't see them really becoming collectible any time in the next decade haha
Yeah dude you're fine. Focus st is not gonna be appreciating any time soon, if ever. The cleanest examples may hover around 12-15k for a few years at best and that's it.
They were originally going to still be importing the Focus Active crossover from China, but that was recently cancelled. So the only new Ford car to be sold in North America is the Mustang.
Corey Snell With our getting to political the tariffs are kind of harming car companies that use factories outside of the country. While that on paper is a good thing. Maybe they will bring factories into the US. it’s super expensive, and more than likely they will just stop importing all together.

I’m a fan of Ford but more importantly, I’m a car enthusiast. The Edge ST is a very odd ball thing that probably won’t be that successful. We as car enthusiasts have to remember at the end of the day, for millions, a car is just transportation. Its not anything more. This is Ford showing us that they still care. From a business perspective, it only makes sense. Most people now are buying up SUVs. I had one salesman tell me that they were buying SUVs from the auction to sell because they couldn’t keep them on their lot. Sales for the RS and ST unfortunately weren’t where Ford wanted them to be. The regular people buying regular cars is ultimately who pays for our toys. I wish the Edge ST luck. It will need it. P.S. I love you David. A heart would be lovely 😊. Keep doing you.
As an owner of a Focus ST I bought the Edge Sport the year before this came out. I am very interested to know the real difference between the Sport and the ST. From my point of view there isn't much. I am going to go test one and find out though.
yes it's a dumb idea. A Edge Sport with some ST badges and aggressive styling. No manual, no fun. You will get no attention in this car, enthusiasts will not buy this car, this is not a ST.
You are right man people complain about companies discontinuing these cars, but they never buy them like wtf! Tbh the numbers speak for themselves, SUVs and crossovers have been selling more in the past years. So makes business wise
I have a fiesta st, I got the fiesta because I'm 21 and I dont need room, its normally just me if anyone is with me it's just my girlfriend, if i had a kid i can see driving this st, they look good and from everyone's reviews I've seen it seems better than I expected. Btw hope you get well soon!
Will it have good resale value? Will the transmission hold well? Only time will tell. I believe people will stick to a less risky vehicle in this segment like a RAV4.
I dig it but is it better than my focus st? Like would I still enjoy driving this car? I'm looking into getting something better suited to New York weather.
Six years later and I have become the target market for this kind of vehicle. Will be picking up a well taken care of 2019 in a few days. While I do have a 2013 Mustang GT Convertible, it is my summer only vehicle and is parked during our harsh winters. After getting cut off in traffic and writing off my previous daily driver, I wanted a sporty SUV that would allow me to get my kids to sports, haul stuff and have an enjoyable daily drive to and from work. Budget was important and five years on you can find some decent deals on these. Had also considered the Explorer ST but budget-wise this just worked better. As a former Focus ST owner (prior to my Mustang) it doesn't replace or replicate that experience but I'm not the same person with the same responsibilities I was back then.
I realize Ford footed your bill here, but this felt like a commercial for them. Objectivity can be a good thing, this is why I like Savage Geese. Anyway, YES I do get why Ford built this, as SUV's are what people are buying and why not have a performance one(or two). However, imo most people will think its not much different than the previous Edge Sport(same engine, gauges, better styling, lol). Sure brakes and suspension are better, but most customers want perceived value. |If Ford wants to be serious about the ST moniker, then maybe it should be comparable to Mopar's SRT. Will this even keep up to a R/T Durango, or a Grand Cherokee hemi? How about better exhaust sound, or the 3.0 turbo engine from the Lincoln(400 hp=yes!) AND for all the naysayers about this not having a manual transmission, really, in this segment how many do you think would be sold? Next to none! But yes, I may be interested in this as I'm in a northern climate where awd is helpful, and if I can only have one all purpose vehicle....well, I think gearheads will at least appreciate what Ford is trying to do here.
Now I like the Idea of the Edge St, a affordable performance esk Suv. But I would have rather them let the St name die with the focus and Fiesta the best examples of the name. And name it the updated sport.
Loved this review, as a 2012 WRX owner in my mid 30’s with a 2 year old, and plans for another kid soon. This is exactly the type of car I am looking for. Something I can haul the kids and all their stuff yet still let loose on my drive to work. only negative is the price. I think the versions being used in these early reviews are about $48k. That is a lot for a crossover, might have to wait a year or two. I guess I could get the base ST for like $42k, but then you miss out on all the cool tech, and if you are forced to have an automatic, then you might as well embrace it and splurge for all the technology too.
Focusfest people were asked to check this car out the same day you did, (big guy named Lou) and they said the same things; it's a serious performer, able to take beating after beating and still push it more.
So, I am a 48 year old grandmother who owns a 2013 Ford Edge Sport. I love my truck and I've been waiting for the new ST cuz it's time for granny to get an upgrade!! When they hit the dealerships, I'll be there to put the ST thru its paces!! I'm not an enthusiast but I love to look fabulous in my car and to go fast while doing it!!
As an Edge owner I can say Sport mode does have sort of a rev hang it runs higher rpms, keeping the turbo spooled as you stated, don't use it much, but it's the closest we will see to an manual
I'm genuinely into this type of a vehicle and I'm excited for the future generation of ford edge ST's. Ive got a mercedes GLE 43 am in the family and that thing is a hoot to drive. It has all the space a family of four needs it can do a little bit of off roading like just a little bit, it sounds amazing it is decently fast and handles well. Basically it ticks all the boxes, The ford edge is for someone who has a family and doesn't have extra money to spend on a weekend car. This edge ST is my everyday dream machine for $50,000 fully loaded. Im sure ford will come up with a whole bunch of improvements for the following generations to come. All it needs a dual mode exhaust and a few more ponies. Great Job Ford ! On the other hand the Dodge durango SRT is a great alternative to this vehicle it might be $10,000 more but then you do get the massive V8 under the hood of the SRT. Two brilliant american alternatives to overpriced yet fun options from germany and italy (alfa romeo)
I'm gay for you bro !
*wanna know how to make it perfect? Bucket seats, 2jz swap, lower it, wide body and it's perfect 😂👍*
They should have just shoved a Coyote in the new RWD Explorer and called it a day.
ShoryukenDatAzz that would have been awesome
The 3.5 Ecoboost is a much faster engine in an equal car. The 3.5 F150 is a much faster truck than the 5.0
Yes, but I and most others don't care.
Ok, thats fine. I want a V8 in my SUV.
Nope, I’ll keep my Focus ST thank you very much lol
DuckHead Moto exactly how I feel. I have a 17 ST2. And this. In comparison. Seems pathetic. An ST is suppose to be a performance car. Not park itself and auto stop for me.
I would never even want an SUV I'm happy with my focus st
Pokey ive done more construction work in my ST than most people with short bed pickups. And hauled 5 people plenty of times. So their excuse about the extra storage and family car abilities are kind of invalid. Lol
Same here. This is double the price and no manual....nope. I have 2 kids and they fit perfect in my fost.
I’ll be keeping my ‘17 FoST as well. I’ve already grown tired of this whole “Crossover” fad. If I want a SUV I’d want either a Jeep or truck based SUV.
They died for......
A Ford edge st?
Really.
Yep they are doing a Mitsubishi.
"Press button to make Mustang Crossover"
I was privileged to talk one of the engineers of the vehicle and it wasn't meant to replace the RS and ST - it had already been in development when they were killed off.
It is unfortunate timing though. The thing is a beast in autocross.
Nah Mitsubishi is in a whole nother world 😕
The difference, though, is that Ford has the most sold vehicle in the U.S....the Ford F150.
They actually are making a mustang crossover. Look up the Mach One
55,000 for a ford?! Uhhh yea no bye 👋🏽
Fusion is a boat my MK5 golf r32 is heavy at 3400
Rice ETR I understand your point, but you even said “for an suv.” And yes, 4400 lbs is pretty light for an suv, but its still an entire 1000 lbs heavier than the focus rs and wrx.
@KyoKyoM99 this is a car based, unibody crossover, not a truck based, body on frame SUV.
The new Bronco seems more enthusiast oriented since it will have a manual.
@@Silkmaster4200 Ford confirmed that it will be based on the Ranger.
Its based off the ranger platform so 4wd
Body on frame
Probably ifs but definitely solid rear 🤷🏼♂️
Long story short Ford just killed their cheaper fun car enthusiast market
Not in Europe though😁
Have you ever paid for an ST? It’s not like the Fiesta and Focus were cheap. And even as inexpensive as they were, NO ONE BOUGHT THEM.
Ben Mackey Yeah you guys get all the cool shit lmao
As for the hot hatch market, there's the Corolla XSE and the Civic Si Hatchback..
they arnt on the same level as the gti tho
We are a dying breed
does no one want there wifes car to have some balls as well?
I think the focus was the better design and overall the better car. The edge is cool but soccer moms will not be into the ST
MaxSpeed bullshit soccer moms love to go fast lol, remember this comment when you have a soccer mom all on your ass blowing the horn for you to move out the way 😂😂😂
They should have kept the RS instead

Yep i agree 100%. These cars are hella expensive these days. 55k for this. I’ll get a SRT Durango or something for that much.
It’s not but please continue
It is the EXACT same truck. My wife drives a 2015 Edge Sport and it has every single option this new ST has and had them 4 years ago. There is nothing new on this thing besides the paint and a badge. This is a failure on every level.
No Focus/Fiesta ST owner will move to this. They will all go buy WRX’s.
well I did and have heard of so many others hahah so u are wrong bud. This smokes my focus st in every way.
I did too lol I love my Edge ST ...probably would beat my FOST even with my e30 tune
That's okay and too be expected when buying an RS however that doesn't fit everyone's need. Also NO ONE PAYS MSRP FOR A FORD and if you do you're dumb AF. I paid 33 for my Edge ST after incentives.
@@baileyf1998 For the other cars mentioned again, some people like the practically of owning an SUV especially an AWD SUV. You get performance and practicality with the Edge ST. As you grow older you really start to see the benefits of owning a grocery getter :). I got two kids and they fit comfortably in the back seat and I can get all our stuff when we travel in the back. With the 93 tune I just put on my edge I'm at a 13.53 @ 102 mph. Thats not even the best time out there with tunes only. There are some people running 13.1-13.3 with better lauches than me. Put in corn and you're in the 12s. It gets up and goes while holding its own in thr twisties too. I've gone on several mountain runs with FOST friends and I'm not left behind.
Ford might have nice vehicles but they are expensive af
@Richard Skipper Lolz good luck with that transmission once it reach 100k miles
xRLxMayhem - this was my analysis as well.

They bash almost every review on You Tube and will never own one or anything like it.

yeah over here in australia we have some mad cars, but that's dying fast. holden decided to turn their commodore into shit and the falcon is a thing of the past. Its quite sad. Europe and Japan imo are the only places in the world where in the next 20 years will still have a somewhat cool market for cars.
Yeah ik.
Ford: American Mitsubishi
WorldRallyBlue_WRX more like Chinese
Front looks like a Volvo copy
Not completely. At least they still make the Mustang GT, Ford GT350, GT500 (Soon to release). Whereas Mitsubishi just made away with everything they had that was sporty or nice.
Why are people saying Ford is pulling a Mitsubishi?
JJM 05 they killed a ton of cars and are focusing on suvs more
Who knows if it's a good idea? It cant replace the Focus RS because there is a HUGE performance gap. It can't replace the Focus ST because there is a HUGE handling and price gap. Current ST buyers are unlikely candidates for those reasons, IMO.
You do realise the ST and RS's will never die in Europe. We have had them for YEARS and will continue to have them. The Escort RS Cosworth is a pure British icon and honestly I had a picture of one on my bedroom wall since I was young. The day I got a ride in one was a dream. My dad owned a Sierra Coswroth too and that thing made ALL the right noises.
Nobody is gonna take a Ford Edge ST to an Autocross event. I just don't see it happening.
Your 99.99% right. Theres always that one werid guy that brings it for shits and gigs. But I agree with you
I have a 2.7l Ecoboost on my F150 and LOVE it. It’s a badass little engine.
2021 and up are 6 second 0-60 not bad for a 4500lb machine
I'm not a suv guy. I drive a 2014 mustang. But I really like that the option of this exists its a real good thing
in summary: Yes.
Definitely looking at these in the future but I’m curious to see if Chevrolet responds to ford with their version of the blazer with a SS model hopefully
Gotta love the fact that it's likely to be banned from autocrosses because it's center of gravity is too high...
The mustang is still good I just don't understand them trashing the focus and fiesta entirely as they were pretty cheap.
Can you imagine if it was 6 speed manual in like an ST-S trim, with like stiffer suspension and quicker rack? Magical.
UGU Zach do you even know what a minivan is?😂
It looks like one though too soft and passive looking
@@johnshukeireh5804 While these vehicles claim to be SUVs, they are not body on frame and not good for off road driving or towing, so they can not be SUVs. They are CROSSOVERS. Crossovers can be seen as minivans without sliding doors or a lifted wagon. So he is right when calling the Edge a minivan.
Its AWD tho....not FWD
@@Ac3Mustang I was referring to my 2010 Ford Escape, which is in fact front wheel drive, further proving my point about it being just a glorified minivan.
I have one on order and cant wait for it to get here!!!! and kudos on you driving it and being able to talk at the same time...I have an explorer sport...the true allwheel drive sport...and when I drive it hard I have a hard time carrying on a conversation and driving.
Give me a heart David, I love you
Well I'm glad I got a 2018 Ford Edge Sport (Fully Loaded) for $39,992...basically the same vehicle, oh the ST has 3 more gears, different springs, 20 more HP and red calipers--Fully Loaded $50,000+
Interesting idea, bad execution.
agreed
Hey Yey performance american suv? leave that one to jeep and dodge. soon to be chevy with the all new blazer. the trailblazer ss is snappy as fuck too. ford just cant do anything right anymore.
@@space.cowboy69 Chevy literally discontinued the trailblazer a long time ago and the blazer looks like a disappointment just wait til the explorer St comes out it'll give the dodge Durango srt a run for its money and it'll set back Chevy and gm another 10 years since the traverse is literally a pos and the blazers just gonna be a rebadged traverse or equinox
can you expand on "bad execution"? i.e. why
Just slap the Ford GT engine into there
Cole Carson Yeah basically but Ford should at least make the engine strong enough for even greater power.
I blame this bc they discounted the Ford Crown Victory
When are they going to come out with the RS version with the 3.0 from Lincoln slapping 400 hp to the ground.
It wouldn't be a dumb idea if Ford wasn't killing off the other ST cars. The marketing behind it, and its purpose is dumb because they are touting this car as the successor to both of those, and the biggest problem with with that is its price point; it starts higher than a fully loaded Focus RS.
Fuck da police, straight from the underground, bitch hatin cause a nigga skin is brown
Nice replacement for the Forester XT since they no longer make a forester Turbo?
50k for this?????? Nahhhh
At 2:22 wasn’t the focus rs already capable of doing this thing.
What do you think about engine swapping a 2005-2009 v6 Mustang to a v8?
ford is just a total joke at this point lmao
They were killing it a little while ago. Now they're just.. well killing that.
Trev_ST how does that even make sense 😂😂😂😂
Corey Snell With our getting to political the tariffs are kind of harming car companies that use factories outside of the country. While that on paper is a good thing. Maybe they will bring factories into the US. it’s super expensive, and more than likely they will just stop importing all together.
They're killing it in europe though except for the 1.0 engine which are literally dying due to corroding parts lmao.
Damn bro, you live under a rock?
Makes perfect sense, if you knew how trade works globally lol..
A fun to drive, big car, 4 door / suv , practical car is a good idea to exist! Its the reason I have a Lexus ISF, i wanted a four door fun to drive daily car. Last week I drove a Ford Fiesta ST for the first time at an autocross and I was very impressed by how much fun a ST car from Ford was! They could be on to something.
"focus, gone. Fiesta, gone." Only on the US tho, we in the rest of the world still have them
He said that if you listened, along with the Taurus SHO with the raptor engine and Fusion Sport with the 2.7tt.
@@RCXDerp i made the comment before he said that because there are so many American TH-camrs that just so "ford has stopped making cars" and skip the "in North America" part
Don’t call it a ST if it isn’t manual only
Guitars Creed Exactly!
As an owner of a Focus ST I bought the Edge Sport the year before this came out. I am very interested to know the real difference between the Sport and the ST. From my point of view there isn't much. I am going to go test one and find out though.
I think I'll buy a Durango R/T instead.
Yea because someone going from a Focus wouldn't find that to be a massive size leap... Way too big.
ShoryukenDatAzz Or Durango SRT8.
Those are like $70,000 with no options. For that kind of money, I'd rather get a Luxury SUV.
@@Trussme96 highly agree. $70k? Porsche Macan it is!
@@zachmockett7566 I'm thinking more Lexus RX350 FSport. If I had 70k to spend I could afford an actual sports car on the side for the weekend.
My biggest issue is that the prerefresh model looked better and cleaner. Why did they get rid of the lightbar that went across.
yes it's a dumb idea.
A Edge Sport with some ST badges and aggressive styling. No manual, no fun. You will get no attention in this car, enthusiasts will not buy this car, this is not a ST.
What is that clacking noise? Is that you hitting the pedals or the Edge changing gears?
Ford is trying to make crossovers fun and there is nothing wrong with that.
You're right, but the problem is that it's at the expense of the hot hatch.
Obv you know there is something wrong with that
Why not just make a wagon
Alex Strömberg braindead normies don't like wagons
@@xtracoolconcepts wagons are the best shit, if my car had a nice looking wagon version I'd buy that instead of the sedan I have now
You are right man people complain about companies discontinuing these cars, but they never buy them like wtf!
David, what do you think about the possibility of the 2019 mustang being awd? It's a rumour I heard
How about better exhaust sound, or the 3.0 turbo engine from the Lincoln(400 hp=yes!)
AND for all the naysayers about this not having a manual transmission, really, in this segment how many do you think would be sold? Next to none! But yes, I may be interested in this as I'm in a northern climate where awd is helpful, and if I can only have one all purpose vehicle....well, I think gearheads will at least appreciate what Ford is trying to do here.
The car is fascinating with 300 hp and if they have after market support I would consider buying one what's the gas milage
Now that was one of the BEST DudeInBlue car reviews I have ever seen!
Owned 2 Ford Edge SUVs. Not an ST. Excellent SUVs tho. 1 was 3.5L V6 other was 2.0 L Ecoboost. Highly recommend them!
Idc what anyone says, I was totally waiting for this video! I have a first gen Edge, and I want an st so bad!
