What’s astonishing to me is the power/efficiency mix. We have an Explorer ST and it got 29 mpg on a road trip this week, and we were going 75-80 mph almost the entire time. It’s a huge honking 3 row 2.5 ton behemoth, and has gobs of power (400+ hp/tq). Wife wanted an Edge ST now and it’s on order.
I have this in white. Put in 94 octane gas, turn off the ESC, put it in sport mode and let it rip. Freaking fun SUV to have a blast with. I laugh at people who post shit comments on this car without driving it. Great review by the way.
We have a 2018 Sport in White Platinum Metallic and I love that 2.7L Eco-boost! Very quick and the acceleration just makes it a lot of fun to drive. Slapped a JLT Performance Oil Catch Can on it to capture that blow by so it should be reliable for years to come.

We have a 2018 Edge SEL with the v6. Fun to drive, lots of power, smooth and quiet. We drove from San Diego to Illinois and back. Lots of room for things in the back. Very comfortable on long trips.
Thanks for another interesting review but may I suggest that you consider mentioning the engine and power output at the beginning of your reviews. Also in this review you did a zero to sixty mph test but there's no mention of the result. Best wishes.
Good review, and I agree with your assessment of the cheap-looking plastic pieces. I just bought a 2020 ST myself with the 401 package. Lovin' it so far! I also have a 2012 Edge, base model, which has been an excellent vehicle, too.
Great review. I love the car and agree about the trim around the infortainment system’s bezel however I think that piano black would show fingerprints and more of the same plastic aluminum would look even tackier and cheaper. Some might disagree but I think that in keeping with this trim’s theme a carbon fiber look around the informatainment bezel, the trim around the storage box atop the dash above the unit and the trim piece above the glove box.
Good review on the Edge ST. But I'm gonna have to disagree on the dashboard bezel. If it were piano black it would be reflective and reflections are a problem in this model. I noticed you didn't address the chrome accents around the AC vents. When the sun is out and coming in from the side, the reflection is absolutely blinding. Passengers have the same issue with the sun on their side too. So much so that Ford should recall and replace those trim pieces! Severe eye damage happening. The dashboard, which seems huge, also reflects back up on the windshield. On overcast days or nighttime, no problem.
Dan Dargie, I have driven a ford edge st in the winter. They handle themselves amazingly, and hold their own just as much as they do in summer for reliability and power
Dan Dargie Glad I could answer that. I just got my license like 4 months ago and I had my permit with snow and salt on the ground (Wisconsin) but my moms car is a 2019 ford edge st and it drove insanely well so i’m sure the 2020 is even better

One of the best SUV bargains for the money is....A 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe SEL. Same size as this Edge with all the safety features. The 2.5 liter drives and handles X-lent with comfort, a 5 yr bumper and 10 yr drive line warranty. 33 mpg hwy. $26,000 price. If you have a need for speed look elsewhere.
I disagree with your desire to have a piano black trim piece surrounding the screen. Piano black is very reflective, not good for a screen surround. As for the back seat legroom, I’m six feet, and I have ridden in the back of my 2019 Edge ST. I thought the leg room was fine. More importantly we have no back seat passengers 99.9% of the time.
Thanks for the review! The infotainment system and interior just look cheap, even at a discounted price point. Well, if you want a quick SUV, it's definitely that...
I own Ford Edge 2017 model.. You're correct, the interior doesn't match up with the price tag... However, driving dynamics of Ford Edge is the best among its competition and that puts a big smile on the face.... Steering feedback, suspension setup and the overall driving experience is really superb in its class...
Piano black plastic looks good just in the first 60 sec and nothing more. Especially when you have kids. This material is not practical, is susceptible to scratching and you see prints and the finest dust and all the time you must clean. If you want a car to have a luxury interior, just take expensive structural Carbon and Alcantara. The interior of the car is supposed to be idiot-resistant, easy to clean, and durable for years of use. Bravo Ford for this material in the entire interior trim!!!
Looks good on the outside, powerful engine, but an absolutely dated and horrid designed interior. That center stack for the HVAC controls are something out of a 80s Volvo.
I wanted to lease an rdx. But ended up leasing the edge ST for less. It’s faster? But I love my Acura’s. So no point to my story. Wish I had more money I guess.
These STs typically have ~$7k in discounts on them, good luck getting more than $2-3k off sticker on the RDX and this is way less than a similar Dodge/Jeep
Interior is way too out of date. Bad design doesn’t get better with time. I take a Grand Cherokee SRT. Looks better inside and out, naturally aspirated V8, and has aged well.
