I appreciate the high quality and plain spoken way you perform reviews. I have to say, the GV60 argument seems weak considering the in-house competition from the Ionic5 and EV6. Two requests; 1. Review more vehicles for the "common man". Lately it seems you're concentrating on premium models. That may be a reflection of availability. 2. Shorten the length of your reviews. Nice review, but the question no reviewer has addressed is, when the motor/solenoid in the "crystal" shifter burns out or stops working, what is the over-ride to put the vehicle into gear then? No response from 6 other reviewers so far. Just asking.
If you look at the console near the “D” there’s a tab that can be removed with a key. I believe if you push down in there the sphere rotates manually to operate the selector. I’ll confirm with Genesis.
Great video, Tom. I’m trying to understand the GV60s value proposition compared to other EVs at this price point. The exterior, IMO, doesn’t look premium. Sporty, yes, but it doesn’t seem to fit in with the rest of the Genesis offerings design-wise. For me, the interior may have great materials but the design looks a lot like the much cheaper Ioniq 5. In fact, I think a loaded Ioniq 5 is the GV60’s biggest competitor. Genesis is definitely going after the higher end of EVs. The GV60 starts at $59k. The Electrified G80 starts at $79k. I’m guessing the Electrified GV70 will slot in around $69k. That E-GV70 may end up being a bigger seller than the GV60 due the the more premium design inside and out, but that will depend on what kind of range and performance the E-GV70 has.
Huh. You may be right on pricing and value, but I don't understand how you say this doesn't look premium. And despite sharing a platform (maybe?) with the Ioniq 5, it looks absolutely nothing like the Ioniq 5. If someone had slapped a Tristar on the front, I would easily have thought this was a Mercedes.

Why the heck did sales skip from Washington to California right over green Oregon? Plus, is it even legal under federal Interstate Commerce Act for a company to restrict which states are allowed to sell an item? Must be the vehicle dealer monopoly franchise laws.
“Save thousands on the Level 2 installation”. Come on Tom. That’s BS. The chargers cost from $300-700 and an electrician between $500-1,000 depending on how complicated your install is. Plus you get a $300 tax credit from the federal government and other incentives from local governments and utilities. For someone who is testing EVs all the time you should definitely get one.
Not at all BS. According to many sources, the average cost is $2K when all is said and done. And when it comes to older homes, or ones with detached garages, it can be double that. My house is especially bad. It's 105 years old with a detached concrete garage set into a hill. I had an outfit bid $4,400 to do everything, including burying the cable and updating the panel. Another bid $5K. So 120V with two PHEVs is working just fine for me for now until my electrician friend gets some spare time and I get some exercise digging 30 feet of trench.
@@DrivenCarReviewsI’m sorry to hear about your situation but don’t throw everybody in the same bag. I got a nice ChargePoint Flex home charge for $700 and a separate 240V/50 Amp circuit for $650 here in Ballard (Seattle). Minus a $300 tax credit. In Snohomish county, like in many other places, they throw in another $500 incentive.
@@mcrkon I'm happy for you, that's awesome. Great price. I have to be realistic though and the national average is around $2K including tax breaks and incentives. I'm not using my personal situation in this case, I'm painfully aware it's on the high end. FYI, my brother-in-law had an average install with an attached garage. Needed a panel update. Including charger and credits, it came to $1,800. And that was the low bid. Part of it was the cable run where he wanted the charger located, which was the other side of the garage from the panel. My brother's install was much less. Newer panel that was 5 feet from where he wanted it located. An easy update he did himself. Lower than your price.
Tom, why are 20"+ wheels a thing on EVs? Weight is the enemy of the EV, so why is it artificially being added in the form a humongous wheels? Is it a tire load issue? Or is it purely in the name of "style"?
KIA charge door looks breakable as well, prefer something more solid and simple. Sadly worried that Ioniq6 maybe also limited sales in 8 forward thinking states.
@@DrivenCarReviews Yeah i got elantra N recently and it doest have wireless. If you see a black one in seattle area it may be mine lol. the wireless charger it came with is pointless as the new iphone 14 with the camera bump disconnects once every sec
They Hyundai Motor group supposedly has a disagreement on the Navigation priority from what I have heard. So models with built-in Navi don’t get wireless and those without on board gps get wireless connectivity. No evidence to back this up but they do out a good deal of effort into the maps and Navi system so it seems plausible they want their system to have priority over Maps. Take this with a grain of salt.
Sorry but your comments about 120v and 240v charging is not practical. 68 hours to charge is not ok. always get the 240v for your home. Installation generally less than $750 and charger costs$550. Plus you can charge off peak hours.
True, it's not practical for some, but it is for others (or necessary) . Everyone situation is different. Running 240V from my very old house to my garage (that's detached, concrete and buried into the side of a hill) is very expensive. I've been quoted $4K if I had someone do it. Live in a condo or town home? 120 might be the only way to go. I know someone that can't upgrade to 240 and they do very well charging on 120 and occasionally hit up a public DC fast charge station like once a month.

Great job the review, as always. Until Hyundai starts making way more of these, it's somewhat futile watching this review. Almost make me want to suggest that such vehicles be de-prioritized in Tom's review process over vehicles that can readily had.
Saw two of these on the road yesterday, one red, the other in rose gold. Girlfriend said it looked horrific, while just a couple weeks ago she applauded Hyundai for the Ioniq 5.
You might if your panel isn’t close to where the car is charged. It depends on a lot of things. Every case is different. My garage is detached and set into a hill. Hiring someone to bury a cable and drill through concrete is estimated at $3K.
Saw my first GV60 a couple weeks ago....AND it looks very goofy and cartoon-like. I was seriously considering this vehicle, but after seeing it live, the design just feels one step removed from the last of Powell Motors (The Simpsons).
In photos and video, this doesn’t appeal to me. A few weeks ago I saw one in person. It’s tiny, looks dumpy, I was even less impressed. Not a chance I’d be interested in this in anyway! Sadly even the Hyundai Kona looks way better.
I love your videos, their relevance and their superb quality. You well explain the advantages of EVs. Where I live in Iowa the right wing has declared war on EVs, despite Iowa being one of the top states in wind generation. Paradoxes being a staple of the far right, their reasoning is the promotion of corn based ethanol, while simultaneously also opposing carbon capture pipelines. Right wing extremist politics has accelerated the brain drain with rapidly deteriorating cognitive ambience.
Curious: Why are (most) OEMs ignoring PHEVs & (Range Extended EVs)? It eliminates the biggest downside of BEVs: finding a charger on a road trip that isn't occupied, ICED, vandalized, broken or in a private lot. Spending a charging session on a rainy night with crying toddlers or a whining doggo will keep people happlily in their 15mpg SUVs. A PHEV gives owners 15,000 miles pure electric commuting annually on cheap, clean home electricity. What gives?
Great video. Please start including battery degredation and battery replacement costs. O've been hearing numbers from $12,000 to $20,000 or more. If this is true, it will be a great scam for automakers to screw us all over 7-10 years after we buy the car.
I just don't understand the EV horsepower race. If their purpose is really to conserve / reduce energy consumption. Can't they get extra range without extra horsepower? Who needs 0 0-60. Yeah, its fun but it's pure dissipation. Give me a car with 300 miles range and I settle for 0-60 in 8 seconds.
Most EVs are still about $20K out of the average, so manufacturers still have some wiggle room to play with some of the parameters (HP). Once the generally accepted range for EVs comes down to more realistic daily use cases, maybe around 150-200 mile range; then we'll start to see EVs that are probably cheaper than ICE vehicles.
"Stuffed with tech"... A concept I think that is really slowing down the implementation of EVs. Power windows. Power mirrors. A kick'n stereo. That is 100% of the electronic nonsense I need in a CAR. - Ambient lighting. Internet access. Doors that open automatically. DOOR HANDLES (for Christ's stake) that open automatically. Fobs, yeah you heard me, fobs - I have the mental and physical capacity to operate a KEY. Oh god, screens. Giant screens. Multiple screens. Touch screens. HAPTIC ANYTHING. Don't get me started on the NANNY TECH... oh god, look over my shoulder to check my blind spot? The horror! And this is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg... - All this 'tech' really does is jack up the price. I have to imagine you could easily knock off $10k-$15k off these EVs if you just got rid of the 'tech baggage'. Aaaand, we all know how our phones, and laptops suffer from being based on the computer chip. I can see it now, stranded on the side of the road talking to tech support... "well sir, have you tired turning the car off then back on again?" Ha ha ha ha... I'm laughing so that I don't start crying... - The car company that comes out first with a 'basic' 99% analogue EV (short of a big battery with long range, and quick charging times) is going to win the EV war. Seriously, what is the average price for the EVs that get 350-400 miles a charge? It has to be $70k-$80k. That's over double the ICE equivalents. - I was in the market this year for a new pickup. Sure, the Rivian is one of the most amazing vehicles on the planet (as good off-road as a jeep, supercar acceleration, and semi-luxury cabin). But when a PICKUP starts at $80,000. (Key word STARTS)... I ended up with a Honda Ridgeline, for all of $42k. The $38k I saved will buy a lot of gas. (And I have zero charging issues, range anxiety, etc).
Tom, I don't think it cost "Thousands" of dollars to add a level two charger. Very poor video to make people think in Thousands of dollars. Please get real.

Which one would you buy Tom, GV 60 or electrified GV 70?
Both are nice. Doesn't matter what I'd buy. What do you like? That's the one you should get.
That's the problem-I like them both!@@DrivenCarReviews
KIA charge door looks breakable as well, prefer something more solid and simple. Sadly worried that Ioniq6 maybe also limited sales in 8 forward thinking states.
I don't understand how BMW has removed iDrive controller from all their newer EV ..... At least Genesis keeps controller
Hyundai does have wireless apple car play for economy models without Nav. If you need a car with inbuilt navigation, you dont get Wireless car play.
But as I said, not in the top interface. Which is odd.
I know someone that can't upgrade to 240 and they do very well charging on 120 and occasionally hit up a public DC fast charge station like once a month.
i tell u. now unless it is like the Citroen Oli. i am not tempted at all. only orderimg the taycan cross turismo as a trophy. more desire to use the Oli as a daily. Of course since i can only afford to pay so much in insurance. i would only able to afford the Taycan. on to the genesis. i would be tempted to get it as my first car which i kind of did. but once i know better, i quickly traded it for a used S2000 instead.
I think if given a choice the new Caddy Lyriq is appealing but no way of knowing Reliability. I would have to get a Very Long warranty.
You do not need to spend "thousands" on a level 2 charger. Have a 240 outlet install, for like $200 and use the EVSE that comes with the car.
You might if your panel isn’t close to where the car is charged. It depends on a lot of things. Every case is different. My garage is detached and set into a hill. Hiring someone to bury a cable and drill through concrete is estimated at $3K.
@@DrivenCarReviews Oh ok, but you made it sound like it's going to cost thousands for everyone.
Ha I don't miss the engine sound. In fact, I am annoyed to turn on artificial sound.
Saw my first GV60 a couple weeks ago....AND it looks very goofy and cartoon-like. I was seriously considering this vehicle, but after seeing it live, the design just feels one step removed from the last of Powell Motors (The Simpsons).
And some people love it. Like I said, very polarizing.
Kinda looks like a Nissan Juke 😊
The guy has a iPhone 6 at 3:35 , just imagine when he sees an iPhone 14
Good for him. I keep my phones for as long as I can.
@@DrivenCarReviews But do you still love your ELR? My 2012 Chevy Volt has 134k and still gets up to 35 miles of EV range.
Just make friends with an electrician for a 240V plug
Curious: Why are (most) OEMs ignoring PHEVs & (Range Extended EVs)?
It eliminates the biggest downside of BEVs: finding a charger on a road trip that isn't occupied, ICED, vandalized, broken or in a private lot.
Spending a charging session on a rainy night with crying toddlers or a whining doggo will keep people happlily in their 15mpg SUVs.
A PHEV gives owners 15,000 miles pure electric commuting annually on cheap, clean home electricity.
What gives?
I definitely prefer the evil twin.
Power has always been an arms race, and always will be. It's part of vehicle marketing.
@@DrivenCarReviews electric vehicles are supposed to help, save, the planet..power is a bullshit argument, especially for the electron activists
Long Range, Standard Range or Performance are Tesla’s options.
I doubt that smaller motors would improve the range noticeably..........Paul
Most EVs are still about $20K out of the average, so manufacturers still have some wiggle room to play with some of the parameters (HP). Once the generally accepted range for EVs comes down to more realistic daily use cases, maybe around 150-200 mile range; then we'll start to see EVs that are probably cheaper than ICE vehicles.
I know is not in the same category but I think the VW ID4 has much better design, same practicality and lower price.
Oh, I prefer the GV60 to the Lyric . . . but DGMW, the GV60 does kinda look dumpy.
Still a bigger fan of the Ioniq 6.
Sorry..........I'll take a Lyrik, Please...............Paul
The "Lyriq" isn't too bad either Paul.😏
Free charge because their system has been broken for a month.
Someone planning lots of trips to the toilet? 😮
16:25 onwards: 2 ply? Really?! If you get a GV60 over the Ioniq 5 or EV6, you certainly will get 4 or 5 ply toilet paper over 2 ply.
Exterior is meh. Those metallic surfaces in the interior plastic? Why get this when there is IONIQ 5?
Most of the metallic on the center console, doors, and dash are real metal.
you get the same performance, same quality, same...everything...from EV6 or Ioniq...
"Stuffed with tech"... A concept I think that is really slowing down the implementation of EVs. Power windows. Power mirrors. A kick'n stereo. That is 100% of the electronic nonsense I need in a CAR.

Ambient lighting.
-
All this 'tech' really does is jack up the price.
-
The car company that comes out first with a 'basic' 99% analogue EV (short of a big battery with long range, and quick charging times) is going to win the EV war. Seriously, what is the average price for the EVs that get 350-400 miles a charge? It has to be $70k-$80k. That's over double the ICE equivalents.
-
I was in the market this year for a new pickup.
The ugliest of the three. The Ionic is a boring rehash of early 1970s Italian slab-sided design. Kia is the best looking.
Tom, I don't think it cost "Thousands" of dollars to add a level two charger. Very poor video to make people think in Thousands of dollars. Please get real.
Yet another propaganda video totally ignoring all the faults and dangers of EV’s.
Nope. Pretty well rounded look. EVs don't work for everyone, but they offer big benefits for a lot of people.
