Lately, I've air fried GRAINS! Yes, grains. First I season and overcook the grains so they're stickier. Next I air fry them with parchment paper for about 380F for 10-12 min. You can keep them loose or if they're sticky enough, you can form patties and use the patties as toast. Best grains I've ever tasted. Also, large, whole mushrooms air fry really well. The flavor becomes very concentrated. I make cookies in it, too. Thank you for the great content, Chelsea!

I drain and rinse cannellini beans or chick peas, dry them fairly well, season them to taste and cook in the air fryer at 190 to 200 for about 15 minutes, shaking halfway through. Be careful of using any seasonings with high sugar content in large amounts as it will melt and liquify, slowing the cooking process and causing the sugar to burn in that extended time.
What you get are “popped” beans, light and super crunchy. Can be used in salads and bowls or eaten as a snack. Happy eating!

Agree, this doodad has changed my life! I do everything with it : make bean and herb patties, cook rice and veges together, make a falafel roll with baked falafal, hummus, grated carrot, sauerkraut, kale etc - just everything. I do potato, large diced, (precooked in the instant pot) with a 'Spanish mix' of spices (cayenne, paprika, cumin, etc), garlic powder, turmeric powder, black pepper, fresh ground kalonji seeds (Nigella sativa NOT nigella seeds) well mixed and spread on a silicon mat for the air fryer. I spread cherry tomatoes all around outside edge and air fry for 15 mins on highest setting of 230°. Meanwhile I chop a few generous handfuls of parsley, 1 or 2 spring onion, juice a whole lemon. Arrange potatoes over parsley and spring onion, mixed together then put all those cherry tomato gems on other side of the plate, pour lemon juice over the potato. This is sooo divine I feel deprived if I don't have it once a day. Air fryers are the bomb.

Welcome to the air fryer world! I got my first one a little over 5 years ago, mostly for tofu, but I soon started using it for everything. I actually wore that first one out I used it so much and am on my second! I also rarely use my oven which is huge as I live in Phoenix where it gets very hot, so not turning on the oven is a plus. I also have very little counter space but I made a place for the air fryer.

Love the air fryer for Tofu but currently obsessed with these curried sweet potatoes:
1 large or 2 small sweet potatoes
    2 tsp oil...can be omitted
1/3 tsp (0.33 tsp) or more salt
1/2 tsp (0.5 tsp) garam masala or use curry powder of choice
    1/3 tsp (0.33 tsp) cinnamon
    1/2 tsp (0.5 tsp) turmeric
1/4 tsp (0.25 tsp) or more cayenne
Peel and chop the sweet potatoes into small cubes. Toss in oil, salt and spices until well coated.
Air fry around 380/390 for 10-15 minutes.

Hi Chelsea I did have an air fryer a couple of years ago but gave it away. It was practically brand new. We use it all the time.

I have only had my air frier about 6 weeks and omg it really is a game changer x
I am disabled and often bed bound so I've kinda turned my bedroom into like a bedsit with my dressing table being hopefully a temporary kitchen x
I couldnt bend to use my kitchen oven etc but I can use my air frier from my bed cos before this I would about 8 days eating nothing!
Like you I found the biggest frier I could at the cheapest price so from Amazon and I got my 5L one for 36 British pounds including p+p.....just to see if I liked it and if I did I would invest in the dual drawer thingy from Ninja and give my Mum this one but I can tell you this....even if I do get the Ninja my beloved airfryer that I own....my cheapy is going absoloutely nowhere and most of my friends actually have 2 airfriers lol x
Basically its changed my diet completely and for the positive x Ive gone from being a carnivore to almost a vegan x Cos I can cook when I want to with ease I can cook often so much more vegetables than and yes I'm tryin tofu for the first time tomorrow in a stir fry!
I havent found anything I cant do in it so far x I have a reheat setting on mine which is perfect for wholegrain microwaveable rice....you can do a jacket potato in it....tho if you can it takes more time than microwaving it first to be fair but to me its not how long it takes its about me eating lol x
I dont really use oil though for some veggies I find a spray oil...just a little helps and again what you say about finding out for yourself is true....its simply trial and error x
I think my air frier actually saved my life and that sounds dramatic but I know my position and I was so struggling and like I say I havent...so far found anything it cant cook x
I use mine for every meal....just the last thing I ate was courgette crisps as a snack lol x
For anyone on the fence....stop being silly these things really are 👏 brilliant!

I had a Kmart one for a few years and loved it but it was damaged accidentally so when I went to replace it we were talked into an expensive one in the Christmas sales and I have to say it was worth every cent. Most things were good in the Kmart fryer but it is fantastic in the Phillips. Easy to clean and just works so much better. The Kmart one was a great starting point though. I make corn chips from tortillas , just cut them into triangles with my kitchen scissors and throw them in for about 6 minutes. Whole mushrooms tossed in some soy sauce. Frozen broccoli, tip a whole bag in. Yum.

I bought a cheapo kogan one 11 years ago and said if I liked it I'd upgrade when it died.....I can't kill the thing😂😂😂 however, we did upgrade middle of last year and got an oven size one. Depends how many I'm feeding and what we have if I use the shelf one or the rocket style! The rocket style is definitely easier to use as can just shake it around, but the oven shelves are very practical too.
I do enjoy having both for different purposes! So great in summer because it doesn't heat the whole house up and so much quicker than an oven.
Don't forget though that using the airfryer does increase the calorie density of food as it dries it out considerably!

Waiting for my toaster to die before adding another counter appliance. Thinking of the Ninja flip up 8 in 1. Can anyone comment if they have one? I like the space saving idea but worried it won’t air fry like a basket model given it has too many functions. If I had the budget I’d go for the Breville.

mate of mine has NO kitchen space so keeps his on his verandah table outside. i thought WHAAT??
but he showed me. its no problem. he runs out, tosses jug of seasoned spuds in it, sets it going for 25mins (sets simultaneous alarm on his phone to remind him), goes back inside & watches telly, outside again with his bowl at the DING! pours crunchy spuds in bowl, runs back inside, doesnt even miss his tv program.

I tried an air-fryer and didn't think it was anything special, so I returned it. I didn't like the fact you can't see the food inside and it was bulky for the amount of cooking space. The Breville looks better but is hugely expensive so it's a no from me. Let's use what we already have, oven, hob, toaster, microwave!

    • @donnakeane5754

I have used an air fryer for 3 years. I use no oil at all cooking plant based. I have had no sticking issues with anything I have cooked. If concerned about sticking you can use parchment paper, being careful that the edges do not ride up the sides too high towards the heat elements at the top. You can also use bbq silicone mats cut to size if using an oven-type air fryer. They have tiny holes in them so are different from oven silicone mats in that they allow the air to flow to the bottom of the food. These little steps are well worth the effort given the delicious food the air fryer produces. Happy cooking!

Be careful using paper as can burn causing a fire and not advised. Use an oven bowl rather.
