Just a suggestion that has saved me a lot of time. Most home improvement stores carry what is called touch up cups. Each cup holds about 1.5 cups of the paint that you use for the different projects that you’ve done in your house. There are labels on each one for you to print the manufacturer, color name and number as well as where in the house it was used. The cups have a metal ring type thing inside so the you can shake it up. We keep them in our pantry where I can just grab the right one if I see a nick or scratch and touch up the paint. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve fixed a wall in just a few moments!

My grandmother was a single mother after her husband died from the effects of mustard gas. She worked so hard to support her 3 kids during the Depression. At one point, her daughter was upset because all of her friends had rugs in their living rooms, but her mom couldn’t afford to buy one. So, my grandmother decided to PAINT a rug on their floor. It was beautiful (long before anyone thought to do this).
She was a seamstress and got part-time work painting the backs of turtles sold at the dime store. She was amazing!

I was just about to say this same thing about the brass doors when I saw your comment. I also always spray paint the firebrick inside the fireplace with the heatproof black spray in every house we've lived. That way it doesn't show the fire soot streak marks on the inside when the doors are open. Guess I'm just picky like that.

I had to laugh when you mentioned that you wanted to be a truck driver and listen to audio books while you worked…and your spot on…I have been a truck driver for about 10 years and I think I have over 300 books on Audible. Reading has always been the best way I have found to fill quiet times in my life and when I became a driver I thought I was gonna go crazy because the radio can only keep me entertained for so long. When I found Audible I thought oh my life just got 1000% better.

I use a Mr. Clean sponge for cleaning things off a surface like the little black paint smudge. If it hasn't cured it should come of. They are just a household must. You are doing a great job fixing your house up. It will be fun to see your art work up. Can you give us a baby update on how you and Josh are adjusting. I realize you won't be sharing the baby with us, yet would like to learn how you are. If I was decorating your room I would do a conversation are of 4 swivel chairs and round low table in front of fireplace and keep your TV area where it is. You could add some accent floor lamps and once you put up art and rugs it would be great.

watching this video has helped me see what my previous projects were missing.... the difference between a professional-looking job and an amateur outcome: those careful attention to details of preparing the area. Taking the time to really get down there and create crisp lines and hand-paint the dings, to ask the paint store for the best roller type, getting every bit of hair and dust out of the area. Not only was it satisfying to watch this process, it was like taking a free seminar on how to up your game by actually showing the way to attend to details and how you go about it--visually watching you do it makes more sense than reading a checklist of recommendations from a search engine result on the subject.
And sometimes it’s about finding that little piece that fell off the roller and is really important and very tiny

DO NOT shake stain, only stir it! If you shake it, it will have tiny bubbles that take a very long time to rise up and pop. Once applied to the wood you will not get a smooth surface. You will have to sand out all the tiny bubbles trapped and dried in the surface. Just slowly stir the stain, or poly seal, for a couple of minutes before applying.

Becky, the floors look so very very nice😲 Can imagine it with area rug and furniture, some hanging plants that baby boy can't reach...(google non toxic plants for babies and dogs.) The low sills along the windows will be s great place for him to pull up to and see outside, he also can place small toys on the sill and you will use window wipes frequently but he is worth it!!! I never do mind babies prints....ever. Sponge like alphabet and numbers for bath are great for windows too. You can enjoy the view and plants with coffee and baby boy can amuse himself in a safe area.. .win win win. Diy win. Fireplaces is a focal point of room, I see why you redid that, great job. I'm a creative risk taker and enjoy diys and stepping out on a limb. 🌺😍 You have a great place for perennial large growth flowers like rhododendron, azalea, hydrangea. My folks had all those and I as well and it's so beautiful with a row of one or the other to hide unloved spots,or make a visual frame by the vegetable garden or fencing.just a thought.

Are you going to apply a marine polyurethane on the floor? It’ll keep it from chipping as well as help with outdoor traffic!

Becky, you did an amazing job on the floor and the fireplace! I love the dark, rich stain you chose for the fireplace. It is so pretty. The floor looks fantastic! The paint color is perfect, and porch paint should definitely be more durable. I love the sunroom. I can't wait to see it all finished with your furnishings, decor, and artwork. I know it will be so satisfying to get it done. I love yours and Josh's new homestead. I could see the men outside working on your garden area, and I can't wait to see all of it too. Baby A will enjoy growing up there with all the outdoor spaces to explore.

The wood around the fireplace now compliments the floor and the stone rather than taking away from it. Perfect stain color. And the floor in the sunroom looks so good.

Hi Becky, I’ve watched your videos a while.. and I love your energy and enthusiasm in everything you do.. and then I’m like why am I just sitting here doing nothing?! Then I get up and get busy and mostly listen lol since you’re such a busy person I’d recommend some easy houseplants. I’m a houseplant fanatic 😂 golden pothos, or any pothos really , heart leaf philodendron, Spider plants, and snake plants are all super easy houseplants. As long as you don’t get direct sunlight in the window for a long period of time they should be great! Bright indirect light is what most houseplants want. I can just see them now! We’ve been looking at houses and my few demands are big windows for plants and a good kitchen window above the sink for water propagation 😊I’m sure you’ll keep it simple but I’d probably have like 100 plants with windows like those! They are amazing!!

Oh gosh! Becky, I had dark floors installed in our new home. Warning! They look beautiful, but we, too, have 2 dogs and now wish we had gone with a lighter wood. Everything did I mention. Everything shows up, lint dog hair dust, etcetera. It is almost a full-time job to keep it clean.😊 So, if this seems negative, it's really not meant to be. 😊❤

I really love what you shared about the benefit of learning things outside of the obvious and "practical" things like cooking and gardening. Not being able to complete various lists, plans and projects on my time schedule after I had children was a learning curve for me. It took a while to know that it was A-OK. It was actually character-building and helped me grow as a person. ❤ I appreciate your words in this video!

I love that idea of it being full of houseplants That's going to be really lovely and beautiful. ❤ I absolutely want a room just like this in my future home. I just think they are so relaxing and beautiful. As you said during a good rain/ thunderstorm or snow it will be so amazing to sit out there with some tea and just relax. ❤❤❤ Also love a good audiobook or podcast!! I don't have the patience to sit down to read a book so I love being able to listen and work! You can also buy some rustoleum spray paint and spray your white vents to black Instead of buying new ones. 😊 The fireplace and flooring color choices are so gorgeous. They look incredible!!!

Hi Becky, just watching you apply the painters tape and I have a tip for you. Rather than having several seams and the potential for unevenness, I run the whole length on the floor with a bit extra and then pull up and attach to the trim. Just touch a few spots to the floor so it doesn’t move on you. Hope that makes sense 😊.

Food for thought, loved the fireplace trim. If you get a very low grit sandpaper and go over it softly it will help the natural grain come out more so it matches the dark spots here and there like the floor with the stain you used ( you mentioned you liked that)the darker spots in the wood. Also, from TH-cam land seeing the fireplace, it looks like at the bottom of the fireplace where the floor meets the tile there is a wood trim if you stain that little piece of trim it will make the fireplace pop more. Just a suggestion. Its your house do what makes you happy its all looking beautiful. Somehow, you popped up on my feed and caught my attention you look SO MUCH like my daughter its weird. I am new to your channel and have been enjoying everything so far. I even made your breakfast burritos and your egg quiche everyone enjoyed them!! thanks. Also, congratulations to you and your husband on your new bundle of joy also glad to see your much better after having such a time! Make sure you get plenty of rest and drink plenty of liquids! Thanks for sharing with us all your adventures. God BLESS you and your family.

The darker the paint/floor the more dust and dirt shows up. You wouldnt think so but its worse than white floors. White reflects light so it sorta diffuses your vision and stops you from staring at the brightness let alone noticing dust etc.
Dark however ends up showing EVERYTHING. And most dirt dust etc is light brown so yeah it doesnt blend it sticks out like a sore thumb and because on white floor the light changes so much so most stuff blends with shadows and hanging light whereas black floors dont have that camoflague.

I think it's going to look great, the only thing I would be leary of is the stuff in the mop. Most commerical floor cleaners have additives that make your floor shine, and that may keep the paint from adhering to the floor. Best just to use hot water and rinse. Also, black shows dust and pawprints like crazy! When it's clean it's great, but it will show every speck of dust. Also, the foam brushes work great for stain, they come in a variety of sizes, and they soak up the stain so you don't get so much on the surface like a brush. Also, they are cheap so you just toss them afterwards.

    • @striketochill
      @striketochill ปีที่แล้ว

It's a refillable mop so it probably is just water or vinegar in there. Becky strikes me as the type to use something natural like that!

House plants are not only beautiful and fun to look at but they also cleanse your homes air. I have many many plants and once I figured out I need to not over think it and just enjoy them they started to thrive. They don’t require much, love, water and sunshine ☀️ Just like us. When it comes to watering less is more and for the trickier ones I watch TH-cam videos on how to care for them. Don’t be intimidated, you can do it. You have the dream of having them because it’s meant to be part of your future. ❤❤❤
