Old banks 6 gun tuner on an 02 7.3L

    My truck did the same thing. I had stock tubes for a not so stock truck. It would look at idle and sputter but run great when you have the throttle down.

    Old faulty banks chip was the problem. Hydra tuner installed ftw. 🤘

    You need the electrical tape modification for your check engine light

      No more engine lights lol. Replaced it with a hydra and all is good now.

    If the throttle felt much more responsive and the engine seemed to have more power as you described, the rough idle is probably the timing being significantly advanced, which should also yield better fuel economy and lower EGTs. A bad camshaft sensor will completely stop the engine from being able to run at all.

      Ended up being a faulty chip. I installed a hydra and it's working better now.

    My truck did the same with a old tuner and it seemed to still have a surging idle and it ended up being the icp

    Hey I also have a banks chip in my 7.3 and was meaning to get the hydra tuner was it hard to take out the banks tuner and what do I need exactly to take it out anything like new harness or something? I’m new to owning a diesel and mine came with the banks tuner and was noticing the same problems as you

      My problem ended up being a faulty chip. I called banks and they said that is a common issue for older tuners. I didn't completely take it out when I switched to the hydra. Just unplugged all the sensors except for the thermal probe in the header so I could see my egt. Install of the hydra was straight forward and it's working much better now. No idle issues and plenty of power.

    The tuner should not make it miss fire, the check light is on, that should be looked into

      It was the Banks chip that was malfuntioning. I switched it over to a Hydra tuner and haven't looked back.

      That wasn't a misfire that was the timing was advanced. Misfire truck would have ran like shit

    Did you ever figure out why you are losing some cylinders? I have an earlier 6-gun and it works great. Level 1 is supposed to be "stock".

      Do you have the same six gun as the video shows? I just bought a truck with that same tuner and the turbo and the fuel connections were disconnected. I’m wondering if there is a reason.

      @@gojonego2 No, I have the first version ever made. Yours has more features and is more advanced. BTW, My truck runs more efficiently on level 2.

      @@gojonego2 I have 2002 7.3 w six gun. Engine light stayed on. I use it for the gauges only now. I use SCT TUNER. AWESOME

      After talking to the Banks customer service we figued out it was the Banks chip that was malfuntioning. I switched it over to a Hydra tuner and haven't looked back.
