My 99 7.3L was handed down to me in 2019 from my grandfather who bought it new in 1999. Did some quality of life upgrades to it when I got it. Clifford also offers an alarm system and remote start kit that works very well.
Interesting video. Only thing I didn't hear was what you are running for a tuner and what tunes. Are you running a superchip or something similar or a hydra with custom tunes?
You should put a compound turbo system on your truck. Compounds are not very common on the old 7.3L but they’re just badass to have and the sound is like a symphony.
Wow. That Edge tune seemed to make a pretty big difference. Do you have the same transmissions, rear gears? The inter cooler tubes and exhaust tip, certainly didn't change things much. What tune were you running on the Edge? It's way too rich, blowing all that smoke.
Tuning for more performance is all well and good, I guess, but the truck factory engine parameters are engineered to be practical and to ensure the durability of the engines, and for pulling well, not to hot rod them. With the same care and maintenance on both trucks, there is a high percentage probability that the hot rodded truck will need engine work, or replacement, many thousands of miles before the factory tuned truck. The tac red line is there for a reason. As far as I know, my 1999 is factory and is plenty fast, for me, just with the turbo, and pulls really well, which is more than enough for what I need. Loud and long lasting. 288,000 miles.
Absolutely, I just lost my Dad last year and he left me, along with his '73 Bronco, his '99 F350 Powerstroke CrewCab Longbox 4x4 that's got over 273,000 miles on it and has never needed a wrench turned on the drivetrain...ever...only work it's needed was the starter replaced in 2021...bulletproof and reliable...
You're right it might help with sound and speed but that's not what a diesel is about. They are used to tow. As long as mine tows with no problem. I'll leave it be, along with my 6.0. Only thing I have done to it was bulletproof and a 4" straight pipe on it. I'm actually having tk out an alternator on it today as well. Other the. That the regular maintenance on it and she does the job
Not a fan of setting up a truck to roll coal. Gets to much attention from the government and the EPA. If you want your 7.3 L to give you many years of reliable service, leave it stock. OK, maybe an Donaldson Air box, but that's about it. Of course one has to keep up with the maintenance.
Yeah, I put the Donaldson filter on mine. And a 4 inch exhaust. Other than that my only mods are for longevity like hutch mod, mishimoto trans cooler ect.
I've had a tuned 7.3 for 15 years or so with no problems. As for the smoke, it's just unburned fuel. If you smoke just a little under heavy acceleration, then you now your getting everything that set up has. If your always smoking then you are dumping more fuel then the engine can handle and it's just a waste of fuel. Epa lol, they can go fck themselves
Ok the 7.3 is great. Mine would smoke both of your trucks and I have a crew cab 1 ton 4x4 longbed dually on 35s. Van turbo No intercooler Stage 2 ninjectors Adrenaline HPOP Hydra chip 5” exhaust But I think the big get up and go item is the 4.30 gears with lockers

Honestly, that's quite a bit low. My '01 CCLB SRW 4x4 w' 3:73 rear end gets 17-18 at a 70mph cruise not towing. I'm running 285/75/16 ATS tires, so slightly larger than stock. At 70mph, I'm tacking @ 2,000 RPM. Truck has 177,000 miles. I've run a Tri-Power chip, CAI and 4" cat back echaust since it had around 30,000 miles on it. No plans to sell her, either...lol.
