I don't care what people around me think. I'm going to ride my bike from the 80's to learn on for 6 months then I'm getting this. Saw one today and it was love at first sight.
@gavin3810 I love it. It just fits me perfectly. I rode nothing but monsters for about 12 years and it reminds me of those ergos. I had a Brutale Dragster RR last year, and it performs like a more civilized version of that. The first ride on it I felt faster than on my Hypermotard Sp (which is now for sale, lol). I know looks are subjective but I love it. I don't think I will sell this one for a long time if ever.

Loved your enthusiasm here. I really have to buy either the MT-09 or XSR900 for my next season. Drove the SP couple of times, crazy how it makes a stupid amount of fun on every throttle imput.
I got my 2022 xsr900 in June and was literally the only one in Ohio at the time. Glad to see the community growing as this is a great motorcycle. Looking forward to some upgrades and new seat from Kelpi, but no worries. Believe it or not I have yet to use the quick shifter and heated grips, so i've still got a lot of honeymooning left to do. Only at 1,000 miles so need to take it in for service. Suspension was a bit stiff out of the gate but seems to be settling in nicely. Fast bike and 3rd gear is a beast.
9.25 I think its a solid 9.6 when you factor in the cost of the bike. I still have a 2020 that I absolutely adore as a daily driver and am shocked to see a company like Yamaha take ALLL of the content creator/ user input and make the 2021-23 bikes with this much quality. At first the XSR/ BOLT Heritage project seemed like a side gig for yamoto but now they're perfecting the bikes and putting them in a class of there own. NOW THEY NEED TO MAKE A XSR 1000 (Yamaha please read)
I’m just over 200 miles on mine and loving it! Still in break in stage, but even tooling around town is fun on this thing. And definitely makes you turn around and look as you’re walking away.
My little brother just bought one yesterday. He’s been looking for a while. A dealer had one arrive that had been for a guy that had ordered it and he ended up backing out so my brother got it. I can’t wait to ride the thing.
I've had the XSR900 since it first came out - absolutely no issues with accelerator. No twitching. Super predictable to control on highest reactivity level. I find the low reactivity level annoying as it's delayed on power per throttle twist. - good in the rain but that's it
We have been telling you the new MT09 was a real good bike but you wouldn't hear it... 2 years before you finally try it in XSR flavour. Better late than never I guess. Glad you like it.
I got mine this April (a blue one), and plan to keep it until I am too old and need something more sedate. It's good fun around the country lanes around my home town, and works for inter-city Autobahn tours as well. I am waiting for the aftermarket to pick up, so I can get a pillion cover and larger saddlebags, but apart from that, this will be my bike-before-last.
I'm eagerly awaiting my MT-09SP to arrive. This XSR nearly tempted me to the neo-retro team. I can't wait to take it out and get to know it when it finally arrives.
Hope you got it by now! I got my 09SP at Christmas time and love it. I am 50 and just got back onto a bike. It is happy in town or cruising and loves a spirited ride. Great ergos and love the torque. Ran in with a spirited Mode 3 now use mode 2. All aids on full in Manual mode......grandma mode i know but gives you a nice smooth wheelie if you decide the time is right. Taking my time to get to know and respect the bike, and try and keep my licence. In Oz and the po po are pretty hot. Good luck and ride safe.
To cancel cruise control you can also roll the throttle forward for a smooth cancel. Ride a new mt09sp, its so nice. Put 10K on in 10 months of ownership.
I made a testride on this bike and on the street triple 765R. The Triumph felt way more distinguished and looks a lot better crafted too. I might be getting old.
I said it in one of the previous videos and I'm happy you agree, the XSR 900 is the perfect street bike. Not really a reason for the MT-09 anymore IMO.
MT has shorter wheelbase, taller bars. It's meant to handle a bit more playfully at the expense of the more series high speed stability you get from a bit more forward, low stance.
The earlier XSRs use throttle by wire as well, and you have to do a hell of a lot of tweaking (or in my case leaving it with a mechanic forever to get tuned correctly) to get it to work well-enough. There is a small part of me that wishes I had waited for a minute and picked up the new XSR, but I do love my spunky old one to death. Glad to hear that the base model is just a fun ride, it took forever to get mine right, and it took a lot of time and cash.
@@CarbonR6 depending on what you put on for your exhaust, a flash isn't always the best idea. It'll definitely add some additional RPMs and improves stock, but the maps for aftermarket exhausts vary and the tuning can be all over the place.

Same here. I just bought a brand new 22 xsr900 in October and it is also my first bike. I absolutely love it. Already put 1800 miles on it. This thing is a torque machine. I have to be careful not to power wheelie in 1st gear. I’ve even got the tire up in 2nd with precise throttle control. So far I’ve put frame sliders, rear fender eliminator with new signals, and some reflective tape that matches the blue model on the rims. I still want to put an aftermarket exhaust, some engine guards and shorter adjustable levers but it’s still hard finding parts for this because it’s so new and apparently they’re still hard to find. I think I got lucky. I called a dealer and they just happened to get one in the day before that was still in the shipping crate so I put a $500 deposit down and picked it up the next day. If anyone knows a good place to get aftermarket accessories I would appreciate the tip. Overall I’m very satisfied with it. I really don’t have any complaints.

I've had mine (identical yours) for 2 months now and, honestly, after only a few rides, the seat softens up nicely and is perfectly rideable all day, IMO.
Most every stock seat on most every Japanese sporty bike is total crap. But that's the price we pay for the Japanese quality and reliability. I'd find an aftermarket upholsterer service and add 1-2" of foam to that bottom and shape the butt pan with a bit of concavity.
may I ask why you sold the rs 660 for the xsr 900? funny, I am actually looking at both bikes and trying to decide which one I like. would like to hear from other people.

Just tried the duke 890 yesterday. Amazing bike, super flickable, handles great and the engine is super smooth and powerful. But I think I'll get the XSR, I think it looks better and you get the Yamaha reliability.
I have 2015fz09. They all need the fairing. Boy yes you are upright into the wind zone. The slightly higher "touring" style screen is better to try to get the wind going above the helmet. Good luck. Super motorcycle even though mine is the 2nd year model with no creature features. Throttle - clutch - break. Triple 900
question: at 3:01 timestamp, you mention "trail braking" while talking about the front master cylinder - I've been under the impression for years that trail braking was applying light rear brake while in a turn, please educate me.
I have an xsr myself it is indeed a hard saddle, that's why I had it adjusted, more padding in it and a new cover right away, I'm so happy with this motorcycle. thanks for the review yammie it's nice greetings from the Netherlands
That bike has cruise control? Why? I think I will determine what speed I want to do and when, thank you.Riding a motorcycle is very different from driving a car.He must be pretty confident or overconfident to go straight to such a big bike for a learner, wouldn't recommend it for most people.
Yamster, Two question sregarding late model Yamaha ABS w/IMU Systems. Specifically, a 2023 XSR 900 here. 1. Personally, I like landing with my right foot on the ground. I know that's not considered PRO, but I like the freedom of messing with the shifter at a light. Given the Yamaha system, doesn't the ABS system mix the front and rear brakes? Application of the front should do something with the rear, just for stability. Not entirely clear. 2.. Given the advanced ABS, do I ever really need to use the rear foot brake? My big wreck of years ago, ('72 H2 2-Stroke) intuitively locked up the rear brakes first, I probably didn't fully apply the front, resulting in a 50' rear skid on the white line in a hard corner before the classical slide off the road/kiss the asphault, end over end. If I had this ABS and just concentrate on the front, letting the bike figure the rear, I would of made that corner. Just to be sure, I upgraded the pads from metallic to the HH sintered. Big improvement in Bite, but unclear if I stop faster. Esteemed Yammie.. what do you recommend regarding ABS and manual F/R brake modulation?
Yammie, roll forward on the throttle to cancel the cruise control, it's easier and safer than grabbing the brake, clutch, or changing gear. If Yamaha hasn't programmed forward roll cancel that's a miss on their part.
I love my 2019...throttle is fine once you get the feel...but this electronic throttle is very tempting...I wish they had an SP version...Needed a pipe and tune...braded lines and pads upgrade make this bike the best handling and style for me.
Perfect beginner bike, quick shifter up and down, great styling, great handling along with a slightly longer wheelbase for stability, and just an aggressive enough seating position to be willing to conquer a highway . . . just make sure to keep the bike in mode four.
I'm a few years coming off selling my 2007 SV650 that I adored. I've been looking for something new, but wanted it to be special and I think you might have just sold me on one of these. Looks phenomenal imo, sounds great how it's presented here, affordable, etc.
@@ixion_cyb Haven't ruled it out. Just haven't been feeling any of the non-sportbike. No reason for me to get a liter either, unless it's usable around town.
I did a test ride on a 2019 MT09 and decided I didn't want it because I didn't like how it didn't feel planted and stable. the front wheel never felt right. along with the snatchy throttle. it just didn't feel safe to me. so I am happy to hear that all of that seems to be fixed. the SC Project pipe seems to be nice. I hate bikes that are to loud. but this pipe at least in the video didn't seem to obnoxious. I wish I could hear a comparison with the stock pipe. how much does the SC exhaust system cost ? and did the owner just put the pipe on and it ran perfect, or he had to do some tuning for the new pipe ? does the new MT09 have the same longer swing arm ? because if not then it probably isn't as planted and stable. I really like this XSR900 but never really liked the seat. I would rather have an extra half inch of padding in the main part of the seat. and the back of the seat a couple of inches lower. more like the MT09 seat. I would hope that there are after market seats for this bike. are there any ? I am temped to by this bike. ( I watched this video two times in a row ) Does the new MT09 SP have the longer swing arm ?
I've got an '18 MT-09 and I took a demo ride on the newly updated model. Before I had covered 50 yards across the parking lot, I immediately felt the poise, feedback from the front wheel, stability, comfortably-taught suspension rate. It's transformed. It's SO much better.
They don't have long swingarms, thar has nothing to do with why it's a stable bike, it's the modification of the front end that's made it a stable bike. Also yes there are multiple seats or you can get a custom 1 made, I've seen many an amazing looking custom made seat on the 3rd gen.
@@mikehoskin1674 You might want to read a couple of journalist articles on the updated XSR900 where it's stated many times they have a longer swingarm on the XSR this year, and it's longer than the MT. And yes it does stabilize a bike, it's been stabilizing bikes since the early 2000's when they started stacking the transmission to make more room for swingarm pivots. It's all about angles.
Try out older BMW K1300. Duolever BMW suspension combined with low engine layout will give you that nimble feeling. The balance shaft noise sounds almost same as supercharger. And the 1300cc inline four with drive shaft will give the unexpected surge of acceleration.
I have a 2017 xsr900, I adore it but it isn’t without it faults, I’m sticking a Nitron rear shock on it soon and getting it on the dyno for a proper tune, possibly fork internals aswell. I really didn’t like the look of the new XSR initially but it really is growing on me. I’d have to get a seat made for it as the standard one is real ugly imo. I reckon I’ll trade mine in for the new model in a couple yrs.
Ever tried on a K1300R Yammie? If not you owe it to yourself to ride one at least once. Try to find one with all the bells and whistles (electronic suspension, etc).
Depends on the Yamm and Fan. I'm from the Black Country in 🇬🇧 so that makes me a Yam Yam too. I got a Genesis87 1000. That a proper man's toad racer. If you can handle that, then any bike is a pissoPiss.
What model-year should you look for if looking for a XSR900? Since he's saying Yamaha has fixed these bikes, saying that you shouldn't by earlier models?
Nice vid. Just wondered, have Yamaha fixed the fueling or has Jacob as presumably he's had it mapped/flashed with the full system? Either way, I've always thought it's a good bike but also that it looks a bit weird, even ugly tbh, although it actually looks really good in the black. Only thing I'd prefer apearance wise is gold forks & wheels from the blue one on the black version & it would look really good imo. It's also definitely one of the best value bikes on the market currently. In terms of bang for your buck, it's probably between this, it's MT-09 standard & SP siblings & the latest Suzuki GSXS1000. Although the XSR is probably the coolest of the bunch.
@@gavin3810 Interesting. I watched another review of a standard 2022 XSR900 afterwards out of curiosity & they said it the fueling was now very good too so looks like Yamaha have indeed solved the issue which is good to hear.
Almost a perfect bike… I just wish it looked as good as the Honda CB 1000R…. I love everything about that bike which is some thing about the styling I cannot put my finger on it just puts me off. that being said I would happily on that bike because it’s just so good that I could learn to let the looks grow on me lol. i’m sure it looks beautiful from the cockpit lol which is rly all that matters is how it rides. And the trees raised in the forks! Which helps the 2nd gen MT09 greatly! - That and the Corso Rosa rubber - nice choice for the rear that got it's matching front 3 days after it arrived - lol

Nah that cafe racer headlight fairing is kickass. Naked bikes don't need windscreens.
The 2021 model had a much better looking tail section.
Triple 900
I will be getting one. I put a deposit down a couple days ago. Have to close on my house first in order to finance 😰. Still, very excited.
question: at 3:01 timestamp, you mention "trail braking" while talking about the front master cylinder - I've been under the impression for years that trail braking was applying light rear brake while in a turn, please educate me.
I have an xsr myself it is indeed a hard saddle, that's why I had it adjusted, more padding in it and a new cover right away, I'm so happy with this motorcycle. thanks for the review yammie it's nice greetings from the Netherlands
I bought mine as my first bike too, such and awesome and fun bike
❤ really appreciate and like it...Beaty Moto and great review
Yammie Noob a Yamaha simp? No way!🤣🤣🤣 In black it reminds me of Vader. It's a great bike
That bike has cruise control? Why? I think I will determine what speed I want to do and when, thank you.Riding a motorcycle is very different from driving a car.He must be pretty confident or overconfident to go straight to such a big bike for a learner, wouldn't recommend it for most people.
The XSR is like if an 80s motorcycle designer made a futuristic bike.
No wonder I like it! The only thing I miss on the styling is the round digital gauge like prior years had.
Love my XSR900. Got an exhaust and DNA airfilter and it sounds fantastic
Would you recommend this bike to a beginner who's only been riding for a few months?
So...did you like it? It was difficult to tell...
I have a black one I’m picking up next month at the dealer, Michigan winter though so it will be a bit before I ride it. Still very excited
Yammie, roll forward on the throttle to cancel the cruise control, it's easier and safer than grabbing the brake, clutch, or changing gear. If Yamaha hasn't programmed forward roll cancel that's a miss on their part.
I love my 2019...throttle is fine once you get the feel...but this electronic throttle is very tempting...I wish they had an SP version...Needed a pipe and tune...braded lines and pads upgrade make this bike the best handling and style for me.
i will be buying 1 thankyou sir
Just an all around fun bike. Will go down as one of the greats. Have my own 22 Mt09
Perfect beginner bike, quick shifter up and down, great styling, great handling along with a slightly longer wheelbase for stability, and just an aggressive enough seating position to be willing to conquer a highway . . . just make sure to keep the bike in mode four.
Nooooo.
yeah no.
Beginner bike? Are you sure?
I'm a few years coming off selling my 2007 SV650 that I adored. I've been looking for something new, but wanted it to be special and I think you might have just sold me on one of these.
Looks phenomenal imo, sounds great how it's presented here, affordable, etc.
You won't go for inline 4?
@@ixion_cyb Haven't ruled it out. Just haven't been feeling any of the non-sportbike. No reason for me to get a liter either, unless it's usable around town.
Damn looks like yamaha's going all out with the R9 development.
@@exothermal.sprocket I was talking about the mt09, so was the guy I was replying to.
@@mikehoskin1674 My apologies.
Wait for the xsr900 with cowling and clip ons. I think they're making a sports version of this.
I love this all Black version. How do I get this? THe official site shows some blue colour and I don't like it
Ever tried on a K1300R Yammie? If not you owe it to yourself to ride one at least once. Try to find one with all the bells and whistles (electronic suspension, etc).
Now I really want an r9
What a gorgeous beast!
I wish this bike had the cross plane crank, that R1 sound is insane.
It does
It's a CP3, bro..
I was so tempted to pull the trigger on one that I saw but I tried to not to make an impulsive decision. Definitely want one in the future.
Same, but the dealer that has one near me has absurd dealer fees and offered me next to nothing in trade for my current bike.
You only live once, go for it
Hey Yammie, how would you compare this to the Thruxton RS? Comfort, Fun factor, Overall experience, Daily Commuter, preference?
Is this a crazy first bike? Or is it manageable?
Depends on the Yamm and Fan. I'm from the Black Country in 🇬🇧 so that makes me a Yam Yam too.
I got a Genesis87 1000.
That a proper man's toad racer.
If you can handle that, then any bike is a pissoPiss.
It’s 2.5 longer, so it doesn’t want to wheelie as easy.
Plus the geometry of the swing arm is different.
What model-year should you look for if looking for a XSR900? Since he's saying Yamaha has fixed these bikes, saying that you shouldn't by earlier models?
Bike sounds Awesome!👌
"I don't wanna be a Yamaha simp!"
Says a guy who's name is Yammie Noob!!!
With that Tom Cruise enthusiasm I guess I need to buy one!
The fueling from factory was really good on my mt09sp
@@gavin3810 Interesting. I watched another review of a standard 2022 XSR900 afterwards out of curiosity & they said it the fueling was now very good too so looks like Yamaha have indeed solved the issue which is good to hear.
All I want is a fully faired version of this bike
I think there’s been talk of a r9 which would be super cool
Almost a perfect bike… I just wish it looked as good as the Honda CB 1000R…. I love everything about that bike which is some thing about the styling I cannot put my finger on it just puts me off. that being said I would happily on that bike because it’s just so good that I could learn to let the looks grow on me lol. i’m sure it looks beautiful from the cockpit lol which is rly all that matters is how it rides. Function before form.
And the trees raised in the forks! Which helps the 2nd gen MT09 greatly! - That and the Corso Rosa rubber - nice choice for the rear that got it's matching front 3 days after it arrived - lol
Would you say this bike is better than the Trident 660?
Yes in every categorie.
Except it doesn't controll a gopro. But does it need to do that?
You can compare the xsr whit the street triple r or even the rs although as yammie said the rs for track is just better but for street the xsr does the job
The tracer 9 is also much improved over the old one and is just as fun as the Mt and xsr just a bit heavier
And heavier and slower, ✊
Thanks for the video Love these yamaha bike's I went to buy a new bike and ended up with a mt-09 and Love it saved around 6k also
Any differences between the 2022 and 2023 versions? the 2023 XSR 900 just came out. Delivery from order is quoted 2 months, MSRP ix 10199.
With all the beautiful colors of the xsr.....why would you choose black..
