This is a bike that pictures/videos can't do justice. The details, the colour and the finish of the bike really pops when you see it out in the wild with the naked eye. The seat is an assorted taste, personally I love it. The entire bike is a piece of art out in the wild and I love it!

    Here's the mental process:
MT-07 does what most of us need it to do, and has ample power.
GSX-8S will be a marginal step up from MT-07 in power, but has better suspension bones, brakes, and a higher performance and technology ceiling.
XSR900 or Z900SE are a good step up from a GSX-8S in power and technology and will be 95% of what most riders could ever use, could ever need, and would reach the limit of what most riders are willing to do with their personal skill.
MT-10, Tuono V4, 1290 Super Duke R, Speed Triple RS, S1000R, Streetfighter V4........ these are all quite expensive, quite thirsty, and pretty much bragging rights to the rest of us.

    • @mikehannan8206

Own the Tuono 1100 which is an absolutely awesome bike that I will never sell, however it has a committed riding position which is heavy on the wrists at street speeds, and also quite hot in summer. Thinking about this XSR 900 as an every day bike for cruising with the missus, and maybe packing out with Saddlebags for longer distances. I did ride a previous gen XSR and loved everything except the stability and handling which were TERRIBLE. Need a test tide on the 2022 version to see if they fixed it!

    • @exothermal.sprocket
      @exothermal.sprocket 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@mikehannan8206 '21+ MT and XSR are a massive leap forward in stability and function. The XSR might give you everything you're looking for, but you may have to find a seat builder to sculpt something acceptable for you and your rider, for any distance. OEM seat is more of a style exercise than something useful (most sporty bikes have this rotten problem). The '24 MT-09 coming out is a much improved/refined version, with a host of fixes and updates, well worth looking into. Stylistically it's much better than the '21 MT-09. The '24 SP model offers more premium suspension and brakes, keyless ignition, a bit of this and that. Maybe worth it, maybe not. The XSR doesn't seem to be yet updated, except for a special edition release coming for '24. But the '21 XSR was already quite good, better than the '21 MT feature-wise. Cruise control is a good option. '24 standard MT gets cruise as a factory standard.
Over on the Kawasaki side, consider the Z900RS/Cafe bikes as an option for what you intend to do. The engine is much smoother than the Yamaha triple. The SE model offers improved suspension and breaks.

@@kwicksandz Because if you're just doing road speeds, you'll only need about 15 horsepower. Of course you wouldn't notice a difference until you rev the sucker into the actual powerband.

@@mikehannan8206 2021 was a revelation on the MT-09 compared to the previous bike. 2024 brings some more changes, improving on that redesign.
XSR gets the updates from the 2021 MT in 2022 (new chassis, engine, etc) but remains unchanged yet for the 2024 MT changes (switchgear, larger TFT, improved quickshifter, suspension stuff)

I still don't see the "Retro" styling. Maybe the headlight brackets but that's it. It looks like a modern sport bike frame with the fairings removed and has some styling similarities to the NEW Honda Rebels. I mean,,,,, The Kawi Z900RS and W800 are retro, the 2011 Honda CB1100 is retro, The triumph Bony's are retro. This Yammy is not retro (LOL). It's a great bike, I just think that is not retro. Maybe someone can point to a good example of an old retro bike that this bike is trying to look like, or what aspects of this bikes styling is retro?

nice to see a review focused on real life usage. I think the debate about whether it's really retro or not depends on the period when the viewer got into bikes. I started with RD250/350LCs, (RZ in the US?) when Z900s and suzuki GS were already old school vs. the newer GPz/Katana. So this bike to me is evoking RD350YPVS and TZR (in the blue). No doubt in few years time, Kawasaki will roll out a slabby square headlight Z900 retro tribute to the original GPz Ninja900. Kinda like Triumph has the speed twin 1200 for my generation instead of the T100/T120s for those looking further back wanting peashooter exhausts. horses for courses

A bike that is begging to be wrung out, I could not justify and or stand riding around as a commuter. lol It is like having a 6 string guitar and only playing 2 strings. Makes no sense. And on your roads.. geeza, it is a no wonder you don't want to launch that thing. 1 crack and you are kissing pavement. TFL needs to have you and Alex go to CA. or some other warm state for year round bike reviews, boats, etc. Someplace where the roads are more approachable for single track bikes and lakes for watercraft reviews. 🙂

A lot of these newer bikes have engine and power modes which dramatically changes the personality of the bike. I know most riders of the XSR900 set their power mode to 2 and never change it again, but I change modes a LOT during each ride and it makes riding a lot more enjoyable. It can be a mellow 65 hp urban commuter that is very quiet, or a 117 frantic race replica, or something in-between.
You could buy several bikes, each for a purpose or even a "feel", or you buy a single bike that feels like a lightweight 650 twin or a powerful 600 inline four.

I noticed you don't talk a lot about WellSpan the distance between the front and rear tire there's a big jump sometimes and trade-off when you go from a 600 to a 900 and I'm not just talking about power and torque that's an easy fix!" the ability to throw the bike around

I would wonder if it's too much bike also. Does it have rider modes ?

That turbocharged 600 horsepower Hayabusa that Chris Moore built........ yeah I think it's too much. When a dragracer who turns a high 5-second quarter on a 1L turbo bike says the turbo Hayabusa scares him, that's when you have officially too much machine.
