    I'm excited about ioniq 5 N as Hyundai-Kia hinted it as more track capable car than EV6 GT! That being said, even outside of spec sheet, I can't believe that this KIA basically blows very thing in its price range out of water! If you look at max re-gen numbers, max sustained load, and charging speed, it makes Mach-E or Polestar look like it's from 2 generations ago!

    • @0hypnotoad0
      @0hypnotoad0 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      That's because Fords EVs basically are from a generation ago. I've owned an EV for about 5 years and have taken it coast to coast and back, and from experience I'd say a lot of the finer details of EV specs and generations are sort of meaningless mumbo-jumbo so long as the car itself is realistically capable of doing the things you need it to do. The F150 Lightning has blatantly bad DC fast charging, but if it's just serving as a fleet truck or a contractor truck that only drives within a 150 miles radius and only charges from AC, then the DC fast charging features are kind of irrelevant - conversely, for rich people who like to tow horses or fifth wheel glampers, then the towing range and lousy DCFC just won't cut it. Similarly, the Mach-E is probably just going to be a suburb crawler that is kept in a garage and drive a circuit to the office or a whole foods, and does an occasional short out-of-town trip. It's nice to have blisteringly fast DC fast charging, but realistically if that feature only saves you 20 minutes per year it's probably not a feature that's worth a lot of consideration. I think a lot of peoples "first EV" experience will be dictated by over-purchasing, and then over the years realizing that a lot of the features they paid for, like a massive battery or blistering DC charging, haven't actually been used very much.

    • @racesuey
      @racesuey ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@0hypnotoad0 Yeah, but Kia/Hyundai EVs are cheaper with much better efficiency... as I said above charging speed is kinda relevant in terms of re-gen braking and sustaining the power-load...
      EV6 with 77.4kwh battery has same performance/range as Mach E with 90kwh battery while EV6 with 58kwh battery is only marginally worse performing than Mach E with 70kwh shows that it's not just the range. It's whole spectrum of things....

    • @0hypnotoad0
      @0hypnotoad0 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@racesuey The efficiency of e-GMP cars seems slightly meh, the Ioniq 5 and EV6 AWD variants are downright hungry on the highway.
      Still, overall I think Hyundai and Kia are killing it, they are offering cutting edge EV features for a very cut-rate price. Still, I don't really buy into Mr. Goose's mentality of "generations" or "obsolescence," if a vehicle still has wheels and it has the features to do what it needs to do, then it's not "obsolete." I think if you like to road trip a lot and your car is going to spends a lot of time at the DC fast charger, an 800v EV is the better option.
      However, if your car is mostly just a work/commuting appliance that rarely road trips and lives and breathes AC charging, then there's nothing wrong with a previous gen car so long as it has the range and efficiency to meet your needs

    • @racesuey
      @racesuey ปีที่แล้ว

      @@0hypnotoad0 I think you are confusing efficiency with range because E-GMP cars have smaller battery than competitors. If you look at real world testing of E-GMP cars, their efficiency (although varies by speed mostly due to fixed gear ratio of electric cars other than Taycan/Etron GT) is on the higher end especially if you consider their price tag especially compare to Mach-E which is extremely inefficient. Also, in city mpg where these regen and 800v architecture really shines, E-GMP cars are definitely on more efficient side.
      Also, this may be less of an problem in USA but many Asian countries are thinking about putting time limit to the EV charger as most EVs are charged at public charger and infrastructure can't keep up with the number of EVs and future proofing car is needed in these countries.

    As someone who has a Stinger GT, I'm very interested in this vehicle but not for buying unfortunately. The deal breaker is the range unfortunately. 200 miles/360 kms. That's with a brand new battery pack, fully charged. Drive in cold temperatures, drive enthusiastically, use the heater/AC etc and the range is even less.
    It will be like using my smartphone. Constantly and frequently plugging it in for recharging. I don't think I could handle that. For me, I would be going from filling up once a fortnight to plugging in multiple times a week.

  • @WrekEE
    @WrekEE ปีที่แล้ว +6

    200 mile range... keep it charged for daily use 80%. That gives you daily range 160. Now add in cold weather hit for people like me in CO. Some people are complaining of 20-50% hit in cold weather in range. So, you will end up with a car with about as much range as an old Nissan Leaf.

    Sadly, Hyundai/Kia's terrible reputation in the US due to horrible dealer experiences, poor long term reliability, and being known for refusing to honor their own warranty makes the brands inconsiderable for many.

      Not too dissimilar from what people have experienced with other brands. German brands, I find, tend to be better at honoring warranty but their cars will definitely be in the shop a lot more, and the Japanese are no longer what they used to be (I talk from experience). The best service experiences I've had have been with Mercedes Benz and Infiniti (junk products today, unfortunately) and the worst has been with Ford and Lexus, ironically. Hyundai/Kia has been a hit or miss for me (mostly dependent on dealership) but nowhere as near bad as Ford and Lexus. I got into Lexus following recommendations and word of mouth. It was the worst mistake. My LS460 was the most problematic car I had ever owned and Lexus corporate would not acknowledge the issues nor provide solutions for a NEW car. Dealership was of little help on fixing issues, as there was barely any support from corporate. Nothing wrong with the powertrain though, that worked flawlessly, it was mostly peripheral components such as the ill renowned brake actuator (a hazard, clearly), faulty ML audio system (amplifiers burning out more than once, subwoofers, etc), and warping plastics (class action lawsuit, google it). Paint finish was also nothing to write home about. And we're talking about an $80K car here. You can look up all of these issues on the Lexus forums if you don't believe me. People have an obsession with glorifying Lexus when it's been steadily declining in quality over the last decade. I learned from my mistake, never again!

    I'm surprised with how much you talked about how much it weighs that you didn't mention where the weight is. Being an EV, even though it's massive, a large percentage of the weight is at the bottom of the vehicle. The battery placement helps keep such a heavy and, in the case of cuvs and SUVs, normally vertical oriented vehicle planted and stable. Very cool 👍😎

      Your range is going to be even less when you remember LI batteries shouldn't be charged past 90% so you are looking at 180 miles of range. It's the same price as a model 3 performance but with almost 60% less range and similar performance. Granted I'm sure the Kia is built better and has more equipment. I've driven the 1st edition Kia and it was pretty solid something I can say with confidence is the model 3 wasn't as solid but still would rather take the slower gt line or wind AWD over the gt performance.

      @aRANDOMqUICKIEgunsandfun ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@bigdi77 I think that summer range on the gt will be more like 220 at most going off of your summer range. Your only getting about 10% more than EPA. These motor are much bigger this more weight and that's the enemy of range on EV's. Your winter range is also a 10% deficiency on the EPA range so I think 180 is a better guess. Not range figures that really encourage driving across states. This is more of a fun second car and not a good primary car.

All that does is reduce the mass of cabling, the heat generated in the motors, and possibly in the on board charger. You are NOT slapping the individual cells with 800 volts. They are seeing the same voltage as the cells in an ev with a 400v architecture.
