I liked Okita when she's not in combat, once she does... it's a terrifying sight which thanks to Redline showcased. Didn't know Izo got flat out scared of her like very seriously.
Izo was surprised Okita wasn't feeling any joy, anger, or any emotion in hunting him down. She was feeling no emotion at that moment and not mentioned he was losing his fight with Okita, who was powered up by a command spell. It's almost similar to how he was freaking out when he was losing to Li Shuwen in the GudaGuda 3 event.
Haven't watched the video yet but one fun fact is that we don't actually know how Okita looked like. All the pictures we have of them such as on Wikipedia are not actually pictures of Okita but pictures of other members of the Shinsengumi. Combined with the fact they were described as very feminine in appearance and that they fathered no children, leads some to theorize that they have been in fact a women. Edit: Glad you mentioned that fact in the video, I am definitely binging the rest of your vids now to see what other tid bits you know or might teach me about these characters.
Okita's fight with Izo in red line is one of my favorite points to look at for how Okita really is in combat and what the shinsengumi could be like especially under Hijikata I appreciate that we can see more of her calm side in Chaldea as I do with it giving most servants a place to belong
By the way iirc by the recounts of members of the shinsengumi okita was Apparantly very feminine but I woudnt be surprised if okita was actually a woman and that fact could have been hidden by her companions because fun fact all shinsengumi members were mostly farmers and not from a samurai lineage, the only one that was, was okita souji aka the one person that gave legitimacy to the shinsengumi as a samurai group. Which is very interesting. Especcialy considering of the absence of photos it makes u think and very vague descriptions of her by her colleagues of the shinsengumi
I've been meaning to read Type Redline, but this convinced me to finally check it out. I think it's interesting that they made some of the comedic event Servants more historically accurate than some of the serious Servants.
Okita's sandanzuki (in real life) is probably not hitting both shoulders and neck, because it is impossible and impractical because if you are hitting the neck anyway why bother with the shoulders. Sandanzuki means: three stage thrust/three step stab. So it is probably two feint stabs aimed at the shoulders and then the true stab aimed at the neck which will instantly kill your opponent.
Someone made a video talking about this technique and demonstrating it, it actually was two feints then a proper thrust. It’s not that you can’t hit the shoulders and neck instantly, you just can’t do it with a Katana (try a Trident lol).
Okita Sōji has two more Noble Phantasms, both of which are talked in the FGO Material Book (Vol 2). One of them is Coat of Oaths - Which is also used in Fate/Type Redline -, while the other one is Flag of Sincerity. Flag of Sincerity is used by her in Fate Koha ACE to defeat Nobunaga. You can refer the typemoon wiki for these extra tidbits that sometimes do not get added to the game. Love your content though., 👍
OKITA-SAN DIE SURELY! Jokes aside, I thank you for covering the turbuculosis waifu. I ended up getting her summer form during the Summer 4 rerun back when I first started playing the game, and she helped me out quite a bit alongside Jack.
I think Type-Redline is the only time I've actually agreed with the "eyes of a killer" spiel. Okita genuinely looks like she doesn't feel anything more than the blade in her hands when she fights. That along with her duel against Saito in GUDAGUDA5 bumped her up quite a few pegs in my eyes. I didn't quite care for her at first since when you're not in the know she just seems like a generic waifubait character, but the added "murder-mode" makes her feel more like a super hardened warrior who puts up a façade as to avoid the kids being scared of her. Also an interesting little bit about the photos thing, Florence Nightingale is actually so modern that there exists a voice recording of her. That is a pretty insane thought to me.
Seriously? A voice for Nightingale? I might have to see if I can dig that up. The same goes for other servants who might have something... perhaps Edison? I don't know yet.
11:50 I thought Okita at that part of the manga was happy/relieved that is she is able to wield her sword again considering she couldn't when she was suffering from her illness and not from killing all of those soldiers and turning the cafe all blood-soaked since later Izo mentions that she doesn't feel any emotions when killing.
I love FGO Okita so much. The very first SSR Servant I ever summoned as well as the first one I ever got Bond Level 10 with. She is one of my longest owned and most used Heroic Spirits. Even after all these years, I still look forward to seeing her whenever she makes any appearance comedic or not (although I do prefer her more serious moments even if they make me sad...). I know you are unlikely to cover Servants with hardly any historical basis such as Majin Alter but she's also one of my favorites. I want nothing more than for both of them to continue to enjoy their time at Chaldea fixing past regrets and finding new purpose respectively.
The difference between Koha-ACE Okita with Redline Okita is heaven and earth. It makes you think how differently we would perceive the depicted characters had the author gone the way of Redline initially without the success of GUDAGUDA's latter seriousness.

Jokes aside, Gudaguda 5 was one of the first FGO events that I played and is a big reason for Okita becoming one of my favorite characters. Saito pointing out how different Okita is in Chaldea to how she was in her Shinsengumi days in Gudaguda 5, and Okita's scene in the cafe with Kanata in Fate/Type Redline are what best encapuslate her character, I feel. While I found Gudaguda 5 itself to be kind of a "meh" event due to how poorly it's farming mechanics were handled and not caring much for Nobukatsu despite him being ostensibly the main character of that event, the Shinsengumi flashbacks were what caught my eye, enough for me to go research the historical counterpart of a group that I didn't know about before that point. The only time that had happened before, in regards to Fate at least, was with the Lancelot reveal in Fate/Zero, but it would be with Okita and the Shinsengumi that my habit of researching historical/mythological allusions would begin in earnest. I guess anime jpegs do serve a practical purpose XD.
Anime jpegs really do serve practical purposes since the introduction of Okada Izo in GudaGuda 3 made sales of historical books about him increased and sold out, which resulted in the company to make new prints with slapping Okada Izo's face on cover of the book.

Anyway, Okita is one of my favorite servants in FGO and while she can be cold-blooded killer in battle, she is generally a kind-hearted person who always trying protect her allies/friends. Her reason for joining the Shinsengumi and her wish for the grail all involves being together and protecting the people she views as family. Moreover, this attitude goes to people that are new allies like Cha Cha in GudaGuda 2, where Okita was the most vocal rescuing her and was disgusted when Nobukatsu was using Cha Cha for his own personal goal. Finally, Okita was distraught and had trouble fighting when she learned she had to kill Hijikata in order to escape the singularity in the event.
