Txs Dr Dave, something you mentioned (that no other TH-camr has) is related to the fatigue for runners >3hrs marathon, and the landing on heel impact related to the rocker geometry. Hadn’t realized this, by looking at some pictures of the midsole of the Cielo x1 and the Mizuno Wave Rebellion Pro, they’re both clearly similar in terms of the rocker starting way early in the heel area. Not even the Alphafly, Vaporfly, Adios pro 3, Metaspeeds, Puma, NB’s or Saucony’s have that aggressive geometry. The closest one I see is the Adidas Evo Pro 1. I had seen it but had underestimated the effects of the fatigue on the landing, one tends to vary the landing area after a certain number of hours running. We’re black/white strikers on short distances, but longer distances take a toll and we should make a note of that.
More brands are coming out with the aggressive rocker. But, it's all in who they want to market the shoes to. Both the Hoka Cielo X1 and Puma Fast R Nitro Elite 2 have the same rocker, but they also have good heel support and responsiveness. In the latter stages of marathon when runners slow their pacing they will land more midfoot and front of heel. I need a softer foam, but also heal support. For the Boston Marathon, I was going to wear the Alphafly 3s but am switching to the OG Alphafly 1s as they have better heel stability. The 3s have a narrower outsole heel and it's VERY squishy, which makes it more for the forefoot runner. Keep pushing the miles
This one seems to be equally loved by forefoot and rearfoot strikers, pretty nice feature for people like me that mindlessly buy shoes off of influencer reccomendations without thinking about their mechanics first
Yes, the Cielo X1 definitely has heel cush and more. But, for me, wearing them last Saturday for the Myrtle Beach Marathon, come Mile 16 the shoe started to feel flat. My speed had slowed so this shows that at some slower paces, even the best Super Shoes fail to aid performance. But, I was still able ro slash 48 minutes off my January Marathon time.
Correct. The World Athletics measurement in the heal was 40 mm, but when they measure, they do it from the end of the heal section. This is why companies add the rockered heal and have close to 45-50mm in the midsole. By Hoka specs, the heel is supposed to be 40mm and forefoot 36mm. I am sure the midfoot is close to or over 45mm.
Thanks for watching and the comment. I think the shoe is too aggressive on the front rocker for anything slower than 9 - 9:30 mile pace. Even though it's suppose to have a 4mm - 6mm offset between the forefoot and heel stack, it feels a lot more than that. This is a real speedster shoe for fast racing and for more of a front midfoot landing runner. At your pace, I'm pretty sure you are landing more of a neutral or back midfoot. Thank you for this comment because now I'll shoot a video going over how to choose race day shoes depending on your running style. Keep Pushing!!!
@@pushtherun I appreciate your advice and in my heart thought the same. Any thoughts on the Rocket X2 for my slower paces? Being 67 years old a speedy race shoe probably isn’t in the cards for me. Enjoying your channel. Keep up the good work.
YES!!! I think the Rocket X2 would be a better race day shoe for you. It has a more neutral or flatter front midsole that is not aggressive like the Cielo X1. Also, it is lighter and more responsive, aka bouncy.
Yes...BUT...because of its almost corduroy-like fabric upper and supportive structure, it will take probably 50+ miles to stretch. Keep in mind that the supportive dynamic is one of the high quality features of the shoe. As long as you have the correct size, this shoe will help you to definitely Push The Run 🏃♂️
@@pushtherun thank you! Got these in US9.5 lots of allowance on toes , a bit snug but manageable fit on the sides , hoping for a little loosening up. I wear usually US9 in adidas Thanks and more power Subscribed !
@glennsantiago4003 Another option I found was changing the laces to either normal or stretchie laces as opposed to the crappy plastic laces that do not stretch at all. Keep Pushing!!!

great review! Since this shoe is not for heelstrikers, what do you recommend for them and 3:30h marathon runners?
The shoe that fits the specific runner the best and returns the most energy.
I had no idea that you could use that shoe for a 5k. They advertise that shoe as a marathon shoe.
Right off the Hoka.com website.
Did u manage to get the stack heights on the cielo x1? I found that their stack heights in the midfoot is way above the legal limit of 40mm.

Thanks for the review. Would you recommend this shoe for someone looking to run a half at around (+/-)12mi/mil and a 10k at 11min/mil? TIA

Keep tunes in to the channel as I'll do a comparison video with the Cielo X1 and Rocket X2. Should be up in the next 2-4 days.

Does the upper break in a little overtime? Thanks
