Pimp My Ride Was Insane

- Today we're looking at one of the most highly requested shows for me to watch on the channel, Pimp My Ride. It's definitely insane and weirder than I remember, but I love it. We're gonna look at two episodes, one is the very first episode that aired, and the other is an episode from season 5. I wanted to compare both episodes and see how much they differ, they're both insane. Anyways enjoy!

Yes!! that's the only episode of this one I remember!
Yup, they gifted him a first generation scion xb

I actually met a dude who was on the show once. The car ended up in his backyard as a spot he smoked weed and got drunk since the engine died like 4 months after the episode
do you remember what car was it?
source: trust me bro
I believe him. Everyone who’s been on this show has had similar experiences with the cars that got pimped. West Coast Customs only made cosmetic changes the cars. They didn’t fix or improve any existing issues.
Ahhh the good old dead car smoke spot. Mine was a 2008 Cadillac that broke down in my driveway, hot boxed it for like 2 years till I got it towed.

@@tomebers8683 oh definitely. There had to have been some clause where you wait a few years or something. I remember seeing a video from a mechanic who bought one of the Pimp My Ride cars

I love how this show literally just always added like 9 screens per car and said fuck it 😂😂😂 like the transmission is falling apart but don’t worry they got speakers and bigger rims now lmao
It's more like when the engine goes just turn up the volume and let the bass take you 🤦🏽♂️
😂😂😂😂😂😂
If you can't hear a problem, there ain't one
Exactly they just basically just turn your car and just try to make it look prettier than the outside but the engine and all the other shit it's going bad they don't give a fuck
What the show doesn’t let viewers know is that sometimes they didn’t even use the vehicle that was brought in. They sometimes, if the vehicle was in terrible condition, used an identical vehicle in good condition.
Also, it was in their contracts that everyone had to pretend that Xzibit was funny!!
Most Reality TV is 90% scripted and faked.
It would be a lot more challenging for the showrunners to make an episode of Reality TV without have a plot outline planned before the start filming.
There actually was an episode where they said "we can't use this car, we gata go buy this guy a new one!" And they bought him and user car and pimped it out. I wonder if that was their way of kinda hiding what they were doing and covering their own ass. Idk, but fun to think about. Still, such a shitty thing to do to people🤣 like wtf is yall problems??
@@untoldanalytics1259...are you talking about the episode where the guy was literally driving a car that had the frame & body of the vehicle cut in half & welded back together??... Yeah, they had no choice but to get him a new ride. That thing was a death trap!!

They really used to be like, “we heard you once used the voice recording feature on your flip phone, so we’ve added a whole recording studio in your Toyota Corolla!”
People would say the cars would be gone for long periods of time, and most “upgrades” were cosmetic only. One dude had his car catch fire cause of what all they did, this show more just made people worse off lol
It's true ^
True...they never did work under the hood. A specialist for everything from interior to paint but no mechanical repairs were done.
I think there is a whole subreddit about where most of them ended up. A lot just broke down soon after, and a lot of the stuff they added was shit and stopped working
@@ShMeatWad yeah I've heard about that one. It was just wasted money in the end
@@tomebers8683 one dude got into a fender bender and the flat screen tv they put in his back seat fucking exploded
As a kid I used to really like this show. But then I grew up and wondered did they ever fix mechanical problems if any at all and come to find out they didn’t. Some people could barely go down the street cos they need a whole new transmission but got a “15k” makeover 😂
When I was a kid, I thought all those pimped rides were soo cool. I wanted that to happen to my parents car so bad.

And it’s still a dangerous unreliable broken mess that will leave you stranded at any time.
@@rrpostalagain battery would die in like a month lol
Not to mention the fact that a lot of these people seem to live in rough neighborhoods and have to park on the street. The odds of them being able to keep all that junk in their newly “pimped” car for more than a week are basically slim to none.
@@brianbenjamin653 or you would get a couple of flats somewhere

As the show progressed, my favorite part was guessing just how high Xzibit would be on each episode. It got more scripted, more ridiculous but you could count on our boy Xzibit to show up for work not giving a fuck and doing what he do. That man is a national treasure.
True. Without Xzibit the show wouldn't have been half as entertaining. His humor and natural charm were always entertaining to watch amd helperd carry the show even in more awkward and clearly scripted scenes.
Fun fact. The original cars were so busted that they just got other similar cars and fixed those. The whole repair took like months and the owners of the cars had to rent with their own money another car in the meantime. Also some of the features in the pimped cars were taken out after the show was done. Y’all should look it up
I liked Tavarish, ''I bought an abandoned Pimp my ride Minivan'' video LOL :p

@@mr.mammuthusafricanavus8299, I'm pretty sure that was the same van at the beginning of this video. Lol.
I had heard about the fact that it took months and the owner had to rent a car during that time but I hadn't heard of them just buying similar cars to pimp instead. I don't get why the owners would have to rent a car for months if their car wasn't even being worked on
@@charlesw7397 there was one episode I very clearly remember that was literally the car was so busted and by that I mean it was literally two halves of two cars welded together very haphazardly, so they just scrapped it and pimped a newer used car to give to the participant. I loved the episode where they fixed the car of a chemist, and then gave him a microscope
WTF can a chemist do with a microscope?
Look at stuff microscopically I guess
Lmfao
He can make tiny chemicals? While wearing a tiny hat, in a tiny chair, I think im on to something here.
Look at really big molecules.
Trade it for chemicals.... duhhhh
That high jet K van was actually pretty sick. I mean change the wheels they put on and sand off the flames but it was a cool little van before and after. Plus it was a 5 speed, that things still cool today.
I love how aging up in this dumpster fire of a world means I can only see how these old shows I have nostalgia for must've financially ruined their broke participants lmao RIP
There were actually 2 occasions where West Coast customs refused to pimp the original car because they were unsafe. So they bought brand new cars and pimped those out instead, which was actually a nice gesture. One was a Scion XB and other a Toyota 4Runner

The cars definitely did not age well, now I can’t imagine owning one of these and I have to constantly update the TV, gaming system, and the audio systems, or having to find another body kit, etc.
But I will say that it does show the creativity and craftsmanship of the custom shops and this series gave them more exposure and opportunities. That I can appreciate.
the thing with pimp my ride as well, is they remove a majority of the cool stuff they install. so like the TV's, game consoles , etc get removed. only things that really stay is the outside cosmetics.
There is a guy who bought the pink and purple van and it still had all the screens and everything years later.
I can imagine them throwing them back in the box to use for the next episode 😂
They had to do that because most of it wouldn't have been street legal and would have been confiscated by police sooner or later. All of these gimmicks also would probably have been to much for the old batteries of these cars.
Nope not true. Only the extremely expensive stuff was gutted, you can find tons of pictures of the same cars featured years later still having old TVs and huge subwoofers. Most of them broke though.
If you miss the West Coast Customs guys, they have their own show now! My dad be watching it all the time lmao
Hopefully they've bounced back from their MTV days.
When Chris mentions that west coast customs basically are the whole show it makes me extra happy that they are just their own show now. I watched it a while back and didn't realise they were the pimp my ride guys until now lmao

Nah it's believable for the time period that this was filmed. You're very fortunate to have only experienced 2016 onward where the economy has been great and jobs are everywhere. Back during the recession years when you had 1200+ applicants lining up for every single job opening, you had to work really hard to keep your job or else they'd replace you in a heartbeat. Working for Orlando Regional Medical Center at that time I saw on more than one occasion employees being fired for being 1 to 3 minutes late, forgetting to clock in, forgetting to clock out, and so on. One LPN I remember in particular was involved in a not at fault vehicular accident and required 8 days off from work. She was fired and replaced within 3 days.
Ya, maybe on first few times..but when your disappeared over half the time every single day..
She was def helping herself to he patients meds
Holy shit, the first thing that girl said was that she was just fired from being a nurse. And then they rub that shit in by pimping her ride as if she was still a nurse. Were in hell
She wasn't a nurse, she was an EMT, she was at the time in nursing school to become a full fledged Nurse.

Used to love this show in middle school! The true MVP @ChrisJames bringing back them good old days when TV was cheesy and cringy!
I remember an episode where the owner owned a pet snake, so they put a glass case in the trunk with all the fixings. . . Even a screen monitor in a little rock in the case for the snake to watch it's favorite shows on! I may be wrong but I'm pretty damn sure I saw another episode when they put working screens in the rims?!!
So on the nurse's car:
The caduceus (with two snakes) is the staff of Hermes, the god of communication (nothing to do with healing), NOT the correct Rod of Asclepius, son of Apollo, god of doctors and medicine (one snake)
I see this mistake a lot and it drives me nuts

Let's just say it aged very poorly but still enjoyable for the nostalgia factor.
2004 was a very different time.
The best part of this show, by far, was when these cars ended up on eBay & cartrader years later and everyone got to see how halfassed/bootleg all the work they did on it was.

I'm glad you made the insurance premium comment. No one ever mentioned that. That was something I was saying as I got older when I understood how all that worked. It wasn't until the articles started coming out from former "contestants" on the show talking about how they regretted having their cars pimped that I felt vindicated.
And they felt violated
no one declared the mods so insurance wasnt an issue some may have upgraded to full coverage but must got collector car insurance which is way cheaper
Found your channel recently after the Deadliest Warrior vid. I’ve of course since binged everything(some multiple times) keep up the great work. Who knew watching the shows I loved in high school get eviscerated could be so much fun. I hope to see some True Life episodes in the future.

That first guy was so happy in the beginning I pray to god nobody stole all the shit in the car.
This show was the edgy equivalent of Trading Spaces. Everything was held together with bubble gum adn dreams and broke shortly after filming.
Somehow I don't believe the only reason they fired her was because she didn't clock out for a break, this was the final straw after years of doing that
I’ve always wanted my own cat scan machine!! So lucky!! And they never mention putting new motors or transmissions . 😂 it’s just a big gawky POS broke down on the side of the road.
Actually in season 5 they actually did some mechanical repairs too. When they were using West Coast Customs it was purely cosmetic, but Galpin Auto Sports did do some stuff under the hood.
I found a thread from 2007 in which the supposed owner of the HiJet was trying to sell it. He said he had been offered $4-5k multiple times but had not taken anybody up. He also said that he missed having it prepimped, the guitar was shit, the rims were custom drilled for that car which made it unstable, and they did zero mechanical work minus adding a cold air intake.

I can't believe the hospital fired her. It's not like she had a malpractice mistake but only because she forgot to clock out for a break... Wtf, are you kidding me? That's ridiculous. She's probably a good nurse. Hopefully she got another nursing job because what happened to her was messed up. She deserves better.
