I used to love this show as a kid when I thought "just be a better driver" was the answer, but its obvious that a lot these contestants just need therapy and long-term support. So many "reality shows" have interesting ideas, but they just can't help but exploit people who are actually struggling and putting them on display for everyone else to laugh at
I remember watching this show! I grew up in Alberta, and so many 'winners' came from Alberta, which wasn't too surprising to me. I too felt like this show was a bit exploitative. There was an 'All Star' season and there was this one girl, Angelina I think was her name? Anyways, she was clearly struggling with some mental health issues. They did eventually let her leave the show and helped her get into therapy. But they definitely didn't fail to use her for laughs before that came to a head.
Crystal needed her license revoked that bitch was an actual sociopath... She was putting other peoples lives at risk ant turned it into people being mean to her for telling her to stop.
“You’re probably the worst driver we’ve ever had here. The way you drive can only be described as the driving of a horrible person” -Andrew YoungGangster
1. Discovering that Crystal is a fellow Albertan is the worst news I’ve heard all day 2. I can’t believe you didn’t talk about the old lady that was soo bad, they sent her home partway through, wouldn’t give her license back and contacted the government so her drivers license was permanently removed. You can only imagine how bad she was if they went that far for her but not anyone else
when kurtis went on the tangent about how society shouldn’t rely on cars and focus more on walkable urbanism and efficient transit i thought i was watching a not just bikes video for a sec. but he’s so right we really do live in a society
Yes definitely a society. A society on a planet in a solar system located in a galaxy called milky way which is part of the local group (it is a cluster of galaxies). The local group is located inside a supercluster called the virgo supercluster (which is a cluster of clusters of galaxies). The supercluster is located in the universe. Nothing is bigger than the universe. 🤠🤠 yee yee
He needs rehab AND therapy* Not only does he have such bad (what I assume is anxiety from the symptoms) that he can’t even operate a car, and now he’s drowning his sorrows to function, that’s like pouring water onto a grease fire
I have the same anxiety about cars and it sucks, I would never drink and drive, but I wish I could function enough to just get my license and even be able to practice driving for it, but I can't
@@orbeezeater yes absolutely agree, he also needs therapy to help learn healthy coping skills. I'm not going to give him any shit for having addiction issues because that's not his fault but to think it's okay to drive under the influence and put himself and especially others in danger is not okay and he needs help to fix that. You can't be a 'better driver' under the influence. Definitely not acceptable. I hope he's doing better though.
@@alexmackrell1385 I had severe anxiety about driving for a long time, but it got better for me and I just got my license at the age of 26. I feel like the trick is super short drives at first.
Krystal ended up getting diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, and sought mental health treatmwnt and got official driving classes (which she had never had before). She gave a quote after this: "I'm not saying that borderline personality disorder is an excuse to drive like an a--hole but it's a large part of why I drove like that. But now I know better and I can do better." She said that the show was a harsh reality check, and pushed her to get help.
As soon as she said “that hurts my feelings” crying about people not risking their lives to be in her car, I said “most BPD thing ever” out loud. Then later I saw this comment 😂
she reminds me of a lot of toxic people I used to be friends with..and definitely seems like the type to cry to get out of situations. I don’t like her from what I’ve seen of her LMAO
@@tarettime9392 nah she really is like that. One of the contestants from that season came out and said that these people are real and she really was that toxic Edit: the contestant's name is Lou Valcourt and she made a series of TH-cam vids reacting to each episode of her season on the show
She’s like a sociopath I used to work with. She did no work while texting. I politely confronted her ONCE and she went to my manager and gossiped to the other coworkers to make me out to be a “bully” meanwhile she made fun of me during a meeting for having Aspergers. I cried for real and she immediately saw my manager have some sympathy for me . . She didn’t like not being the center of attention for two seconds . Then she fake cried right after and interrupted me several times. Yeah, I am very aware of sociopaths. They have to be the most popular center of attention all the time.
Evidently she has severe borderline personality disorder and has spoken out about it since the show. She has gotten real help and talked about how even though mental health is not an excuse for bad driving, it defintely contributed to her recklessness. To clarify though, I don't think that mental health is an excuse for being an asshole to everyone else on the show.
@@growing.flowers The point of my reply was to explain that mental health was a large component in her behavior and that although she has developed as a person, a mental health disorder does not excuse hurting other people. I included the wrong disorder in my response and I apologize for that. The intended message of my original comment still stands.
Kurtis left out so much of just how bad Krystal was. She was verbally abusing literally everyone on set, her own brother left out of embarrassment, the host even left the car because she wouldn't stop screaming at him.
I appreciate this comment because I definitely thought the drunk driver was more selfish and stupid than Krystal! She's not a good driver at all but it feels like he was piling on her.
CWD was probably my favourite reality show. Kurtis also left out the part about how they actually helped her get a mental health diagnosis and some counselling to get to the root of her issues. I disagree pretty strongly with him that they don't care about the contestants or their safety. If you watch a full season you get to see that the whole point of the driver rehab is to get people safe and comfortable on the road for their sake and for everyone else on the road as well, and if they don't feel like they can achieve that, they either have them admit they don't want to drive and make alternate plans, or they don't even give their licenses back sometimes. I've used some of their techniques (swerve and avoid, icy corner, etc.) in real life, the show was practical and not as sensationalized as he made it out to be. "I don't understand, like, why anybody would agree to go on this show." Honestly, because like you said Kurtis, we're desensitized to driving. It can literally be life or death to be a poor driver to a certain degree, and this show genuinely helped people to become better as they graduated.
And the worst part is that she thought her wreck less driving was funny and acceptable behavior because she would laugh, argue she was in the right, or cry to avoid taking responsibility.
I really appreciate Kurtis for defending the girl whom has panic attack whilst driving. I lost my mothers in a car accident and had my leg amputated and react the exact same whenever I get near a car, thanks my stabby lil fella
the funny thing about the shoemaker joke is that’s exactly how a lot of last names came to be , they’re called occupational surnames. For instance John the baker became John baker, Jack the blacksmith became Jack Smith, and Frodo the hunter became Frodo Hunter. Other occupational lastnames are Walker, Cook, Baxter(or Bakster which was the name for a women baker), and carpenter. There are also names that end in “son” that literally just mean “son of ____” (johnson, erikson, peterson, carlson)
I would never end up on Canada's Worst Driver because I am Canada's Best Delivery Driver. Apologies to other canadian delivery drivers, I'm sure your driving skills are very good aswell.
I had to watch and episode for my english class (s6e1 i think) and one of the drivers said she had hit about 900 cars since she started driving 30+ years prior. NINE HUNDRED! And she said she gets into more than one hit per week, and that doesn't even count the hits she didn't realize had happened. Worst part was her husband paid for all the tickets and reparations...and he used to be a driving instructor.
@@biancalavigne9130 bruh I need to move to Canada apparently you get INFINITE mistakes forgiven wtfff I'm afraid of one parking ticket they are literally getting away with killing sprees 😭
As someone who lives in Alberta: seeing the reveal that Crystal was Albertan might've been the least shocking thing possible, I think I've encountered her on the road at least once a week.

@@LadyDecember americans are always like "wow you're canadian, everyone's so polite up there!" but then whenever i go home i get followed in stores lol
this video in general was *chefs kiss* but thank you for specifically talking about how real and valid driving anxiety is. the amount of times people have been like "so what? its so easy are you dumb!" when i literally get so panicked i would be endangering others is insane
I've already cried on the road twice and I am 15 :D dw very desolated road. And hey im doing great it's just very stressful, my older sibling took 2 years to start driving lesson(from when they were eligible) kinda wish I took some sort of break too it was and is terrifying, I just know I'm going to cry when I get told I gotta go on a highway/busy road we have been in my neighborhood and a desolate old road(dead end too) downtown so far. But HEY I know what scares me now it's not knowing what to is gonna happen I think I will be calm if I watch someone drive where I'm going to drive before I do, but then again mom probably won't wanna cuz it will take awhile to drive there and back :/
I know that feeling too, especially when anyone instructing you, whether it's especially my dad or a licensed instructor, will start being aggressive whenever I make any LITTLE mistake. Most notably, my dad agreed to let me drive for the first time with him. I'm making a turn coming out from a residential street to the main road, but I was a bit slow. He says go, but as I started to slowly increase speed at the turn he starts hurrying me like "go, GO GO!" And from that, I nearly crashed into a tree. The pure anxiety from that is scary. From there, I acted HELLA more confident on the road, like the really comfortable cocky type of confidence. I only act it because if I don't, I'm afraid I would involuntarily and constantly make mistakes, and the fear of the backlash I've gotten before will break me. My sister has it exceedingly worse in that she's unable to drive without extreme anxiety. Runs in the family, I guess. Still don't have licenses, me at 21, her at 28.
I'm sorry you have had awful people invalidating your fears and anxiety :( I didn't get my license at 16 because I kept crying at the wheel. Luckily my parents, siblings and friends never pressured me or made fun of me for it. I stay in big cities and use public transit. At 30 now I'm getting my licence at my own pace and it's going much more smoothly. Aiming to get my full license in the spring! 🤞 I appreciated Kurtis mentioning that driving anxiety is real and valid too~
same! ppl didn’t understand why i didn’t go and get my L’s as soon as i turned 16 but the thought of being on the road freaked me the hell out. after a month i felt so pressured to get my L’s from family and friends that i did (and passed) the required theory test. but now whenever dad says “let’s do some practice driving” i freak out so much behind the wheel and am only willing to drive around my driveway. ty for commenting this bc it is nice to know there r other ppl who feel/have felt the same way
Yeah because cutting up someone’s license doesn’t stop them from being able to drive lol. They can just go back to the DMV and get another one because the permit is recorded in their file. It just wastes time, money and resources for everyone
as someone who's life was drastically changed by a car accident, the message to be safe is SO important. i think a lot of people don't actually realize what a big responsibility it is to get behind the wheel. you're taking everyone else's life into your own hands! drive safe everyone :)
And that thing about how big a responsibility it is, is why I wish my dad wouldn't be so insistent on me learning to drive. I KNOW I would not be able to fulfill that responsibility. Not because I'm a bad person. I literally just wouldn't realize I'm being irresponsible. I have ADHD lol. I can't even pay attention to a TH-cam video that I chose to watch (I went to the comments before even watching,) or remember what tabs I have open. How am I going to keep track of where the cars are going, where I'm going, the speed limit, stop signs, turn signals, my mirrors, and even more. He was explaining it to me just earlier and even while listening I felt confused and overwhelmed, and as he was getting to the climax of the importance of paying attention, I YELLED DOG. Because I saw a random dog. In a random car. And had started ignoring him. On accident. Not to mention I have anxiety which would not be helping me every time I force myself to risk my life and everyone else's around me as I drive a giant, lethal vehicle. Choking and vomitting while on the road is not productive for attention span OR even being able to see. Yeah, dad, I'd totally be a great driver. Sure. Pft, I probably wouldn't even be able to focus on the lessons and I'd forget all the rules before even being able to worry about following them. I couldn't focus on school either.
@@catpoke9557 I also had a lot of anxiety connected to driving (no ADHD though), only got my license when I was 24. I got to it because I decided that knowing how to drive doesn't mean that I have to do it all the time. On the other hand, situations might arise when your ability to drive becomes detrimental.
@@catpoke9557 good for you for realizing that. if you really don't feel comfortable driving there are totally ways to avoid it for the rest of your life (friends, ridesharing, etc.). it doesn't make sense to force someone to drive when they don't feel comfortable, that's how accidents happen.
@@catpoke9557 my boyfriend has ADHD and can't drive an automatic transmission. I know it's harder to learn, but have you tried driving a manual? He feels like he has way more interaction and things to keep his focus
To the people dismissing Krystal’s mistakes due to her BPD, shitty driving isn’t a symptoms of BOD friends. She’s just a selfish driver that happens to have BPD.
Honestly it’s heartbreaking how badly people portray BPD… my ex was certain that I couldn’t have BPD because the ones he saw in medschool were threatening their loved ones with knives… Those are only a small fraction of the BPD community.
Ong. My partner has BPD and just got their license. Not because they're a bad driver but because they had major anxiety behind the wheel. Now, they are super careful and try everything to be safe. Krystal is just a bad driver. BPD ain't got nothing to do with it.
yeah and on top of that, mental illness is NOT an excuse to put peoples LIVES IN DANGER! she could kill someone driving like that and she doesn't even care. even if her BPD was an excuse, she still shouldn't be allowed to have a license. there are plenty of disorders that genuinely do make it dangerous to drive, and people with those disorders are not allowed to drive for that reason. her whole attitude just made me so mad 😭😭😭
I have BPD myself and got my license at 29. Took me months to build up the courage to even go the standard "10 above the limit" everyone follows where I am. I'm constantly terrified I'm being a bad driver.
It very may well be true but if they just say they were told to say it by producers nothing can be proved. Unless they give an intersection and date lol. Like saying you did 20 hit and runs in a year. How would your car function like a car if every year you run into like 20 things? Lotta this stuff is faked and a lot just can’t be proven.
@@PetSymmetry a hit and run isn't necessarily slamming a car. He could have just dented bumpers, knocked a mirror off, scraped the side. A car would easily still function like a car outside of a bigger collision.
@@-8h- I get that, but if we’re to believe this dude is so fucking bad at driving that he collides with 20 things a year, I’m assuming he’s not just having little close calls like that. Again, probably faked anyways because people will say anything on these shows.
I've long suspected the show might have a deal with law enforcement to allow the contestants to be honest about their past crimes without fear of getting like arrested for this stuff. There's also the matter of proving which specific crimes they committed when and stuff. I know mostly they don't see consequences but sometimes Cam does call up his buddies on the force in these peoples' hometowns to let them know about them for particularly dangerous drivers.
3:52 Actually something like that happened a lot in Soviet Union after WW2. That's why we have a lot of people with surename "Nepomnyashiy" (literraly means "the one who don't remember"). Because a lot of people lost their memory after some injuries but they still needed surename. "-What's you surename? -I don't remember -Perfect! You are The-one-who-don't-remember now!"
We Dutch people have a lot of Jansen (Jans-zoon, the son of Jan) and "Van Dijk" (of the dyke) and "de Wit/de Witte" (the white one) and " de Bruin/de Bruine (the brown one) and Bakker (baker) Visser (the Fisher) and De Boer (the farmer.)
Also, quite random and a bit unrelated, but in Dutch, being confused is called "in de war." Derived from the Germanic Werra, which meant something like fighting or changing, shaking something, tension, bickering etc. The English emphasized the violent part of of that word and made it into "War" and used it for "war" (the Dutch call that oorlog.) And the Dutch took Werra, changed it to "War" and they emphasized the confusing and chaotic part and used it for "confusion."
let's not forget though, that did happen on a parking lot i believe instead of on the highway! in the netherlands they do most of this stuff on the parking lot, not immediately highway
The lack of empathy in drivers is a real problem. In Georgia, you have to make eye contact with oncoming drivers when you're on the crosswalk, because they won't stop unless they're forced to reconcile acknowledging your humanity. Not a joke. One time I was on crutches and the driver didn't stop until I stared him in the eye.
In my country the minibus taxis will cut three entire lanes of traffic to make a turn off. In South Africa you learn to fear the minibus taxis quickly. The only people safe from the minibus taxi are the people inside the minibus taxi.
Can confirm, no one will let you cross until you somehow guilt them into letting you live...at this point when I cross I stare down every single car, and give extra dirty glaces to the cars that do that fun thing where they drive over the crosswalk but stop midway through so you have to go into the road and off the crosswalk itself.
i just realized that diana literally has 'Bismillah' scratched into her car window, which if you dont know in arabic means "In the name of god", which in my opinion means that she's praying to not die while she's flipping through tarot cards 💀💀10:55
What kurtis was saying about how we have been desensitized to the dangers of driving and how we should shift to public transportation/walking being accessible is so true and important
I'm the opposite, because I purposely avoided driving BECAUSE it seems scary, but everybody is telling me I need to learn now that I'm 21. It would beore convenient to drive and notnhave to rely on busses and get groceries on my own and stuff but I just see so many stupid drivers and pedestrians and I am a distracted person in general anyway so the idea always scared me, but everyone is saying I need to learn.
@@fuzzyotterpaws4395 as someone who was scared to drive but learned because public transportation doesn't exist in my area it's better being in control behind the wheel. I still get nervous when other people drive but I'm okay when I'm the one driving. City driving is the only thing I still struggle with cause it's hard to navigate and watch all the different lanes. GPS helps. But I only drive in the city a few times a year so I'd probably be fine if I did it more and knew my way around better.
my best friend was killed in a car accident 3 months ago. she was 16. i’m so grateful that kurtis is spreading awareness about safe driving and recognizes the danger of being on substances or not paying attention while driving.
yeah my cousins were killed in a car accident a few months ago when my little cousin was 1. im happy kurtis is spreading awareness too. im sorry for your loss.
I feel so sorry for the girl with the panic attacks. I'm a new driver and I genuinely fear that I will never find driving enjoyable or even tolerable. Everytime I have to drive I have the constant fear that I will cause an accident and kill/maim someone. It's awful and extremely stressful, and everyone around me thinks I'm overreacting/gonna get used to it, but idk. Driving ain't fun at all.
Your so real, I’m learning to drive and the fear is real, I live in a small town (in texas sadly) and most people think it’s okay to not follow traffic laws (speeding, pulling out in front of people, not stopping, etc.) and we barely have side walks plus during the summer it can get up to 115 degrees and it feels like death so walking outside is a risk of a heat stroke so walking usually a option
I'm dealing with the same issue :( I've been on and off driving for about 2 years and sometimes i still break down in panic attacks over driving (or even get anxious at the mere thought of it). It truly sucks and idk if it'll get better
Ive decided I'm not going to learn to drive at all 😅 I'm autistic and I have pretty severe anxiety I just dont think I could mentally/emotionally handle the pressure of having people's lives in my hands like that
that is a 100% reasonable reason to not drive. panic attacks are disabling and it's absolutely not worth the risk. i wish public transportation was more accessible
Honestly I've been trying to tell my dad this. I tell him "I can't do (x) because it would make me too panicked and I could put other people in danger." He tells me "if you get so easily panicked you should never do (x), you could put people in danger." And I'm like,, "Yeah, I,,, literally just said that???"
I was really curious so I googled where Krystal is now. Turns out she has undiagnosed BPD, and once she got proper treatment for it, and realised what the issues were, she did legitimately improve. She was ashamed of her behaviour back then, but sees it as a wakeup call.
I started learning to drive when I was fourteen. I had panic attacks almost everytime I drove, so my parents ended up driving me everywhere. I was so embarrassed that I couldn't drive and when people asked me why I didn't have my driver's license yet and I explained how anxious I was, it was usually met with people acting like it was dumb for me to be so anxious. I'm nineteen now and I just got my driver's license last month (after a failed test over the summer). Working through anxiety while driving is so difficult and it doesn't ever completely go away, but it does get a lot better with a lot of work. I appreciate how Kurtis handles talking about the drivers who struggled with anxiety in this show, I'm so used to being treated like that anxiety is stupid.
Hey, I used to have really bad driving anxiety too. I didn't get my license until I was 21. It actually gets so much more manageable when you get your license and just practice driving without anyone with you in the car. That being said, I have two close friends (we are in our 30s now) who don't have licenses, and 3 of my husband's siblings (all in their late 20s) don't have licenses either. It's nothing to be ashamed of, but it's also something that you can practice and get better at if it's important to you. You just need to really push yourself. I also have a personal conspiracy theory that no one passes their test on the first try so they have to come back and pay again to take the test again.
Wow, maybe I'm just tired cuz my insomnia's acting up and I'm watching this at 4 in the morning right now, but when they introduced the first guy's wife I legit thought she said his worse habit than the hit and runs was "jerking and driving" so I was thinking, "Holy shit, this dude jerks it while he's driving? No wonder he ends up getting into so many accidents." And the shocked look the host was giving made me think even more that's what she said, especially when he said, "For real?!" But then he looked at Tyler and said "You drink and drive?!" and I died laughing because I misheard that so bad, but to be fair you have to admit it really would've still made sense if it actually had been "jerking and driving" 😂
It really bothers me that ‘I drink and drive’ is portrayed a weird, almost-neutral quirk and not a serious and selfish crime. Prison time for drunk drivers. There’s never an excuse.
Are you talking about tyler? They did kinda make it his thing which was strange, but it definitely wasn’t neutral. They explained multiple times how many people on the show have been personally affected by drunk drivers.
Yeah literally one of the most irresponsible selfish and dangerous things you can do. If you can't drive without being drunk to "calm your nerves" then you shouldn't fucking drive. Imagine being like a crane operator or any kind of job requiring you to operate heavy machinery and u tell ur boss u can't work unless you're a lil drunk first. Wtf
I seriously appreciate you standing up for people with driving anxiety. I'm incapable of driving due to my anxiety and it really is so frustrating that driving is seen as just a basic thing everyone should know and that you're lesser if you aren't able to
I have never felt more seen than today with these comments. I thought I was alone with how much I was terrified of driving (nowhere near as bad as the two in the video, though). I have been learning and I drive myself around sometimes with a parent in the passenger seat, but it's just way too anxiety inducing for me to drive on my own on any street over 50km/h. So I just wanted to say thanks, I guess, for sharing your thoughts and experiences with this.
Honestly. My parents to this day shame me for being too scared to learn manual driving. Ican barely drive an automatic, let alone that nightmare. Ifi didnt live in texas i would never get a car in the first place. This place is desolate
@@GrayeIra i live in texas too and the drivers here are ridiculous. I know there’s crazy drivers everywhere but texas is something else. I just turned 18 and i absolutely no intentions on learning how to because i’m not trying to die
My biological mother was one of the worst drivers I have ever seen. She got me (and a few of my friends in the car) into 7 different car accidents. I loved driving with my father so much more then her and my father is legally blind
@ironcladmermaid i had to reread your comment and look at their comment again because I saw the same things at first😅 I was like “wait. Those aren’t croissants?”
A moment that's stuck in my head forever is: *shows them a "slippery when wet" sign* Andrew: what does this sign mean Driver: snakes following your car
I really sympathize with the contestants who suffer from anxiety and panic attacks. I have autism (as well as other disorders) and I’m genuinely incapable of driving, but nobody believes me when I tell them that I can’t drive and my family has forced me to drive anyway despite being a danger to myself and others on the road. Unfortunately I live in an area with absolutely no public transportation and it’s impossible to walk anywhere, and being 18 and having everyone drive you around is quite embarrassing. I wish that people would understand that, like you said, nobody HAS to drive and some of us need mental help. If only there was more public transportation for us :/
yo same!! im also autistic and have really bad fear of roads in general (i've had reoccuring nightmares about being forced to drive for years & i have panic attacks when i think abt having to drive anything), and people don't understand why i don't want to drive, because i don't trust myself to be able to be safe on the roads. & i totally feel the same, being 18 and having to get yr parents to drive you places fucking sucks!! so many people view not learning to drive as "immature" or "lazy" but our society be set up so that if you cant drive your quality of life suffers. i dont have a drivers license, which means i dont have an ID (im working on getting one) so theres shit i cant do because society just assumes that every person over 16 has a drivers license. we desperately need to normalize not driving and better public transport, for disabled + neurodivergent people as well as people who can't afford a car or have their drivers license revoked and still need to go to their jobs
I'm not saying that you shouldn't work on getting over your fear, but there are options like once you get old enough moving somewhere with public transportation, or somewhere where your needs are within walking distance. Also Uber and Lyft, and making friends with people who don't mind carpooling with you places. I'm 28 and still don't drive due to a lot of anxieties and car accidents when I was young. I honestly believe it's natural to be afraid of something that is so serious
Yeah, I feel for them. I have anxiety and when I was 15 right after I started driving I had a pretty traumatic experience driving and couldn’t bring myself to do it again until I was like 20 or 21, so like... I had anxiety so bad that I avoided driving for like 5 or 6 years. It was pretty bad... I HAD to get a car for work though and sort of forced myself into an informal kind of exposure therapy (don’t recommend doing this just saying I did, it was probably a very bad idea). What’s ironic now though is that it’s been a while since all of that, and honestly driving is one of my favorite things to do. I go on crazy-long road trips frequently, I would up driving for a living for a little while, and my car was a crazy good investment, because there were nights where I had nowhere but my car to sleep. Most people who know me will tell you that I’m one of the best drivers they know now lol
I seem to recall that some of these worst drivers only drove because they lived in rural areas with no other options. It’s a real ad for accessibility of public transport for everyone.
I was born in socialism. Nearly everyone had cars, and this was 70s, 80s, 90s. Then we fucked up all the cars while "switching" to capitalism. Now no jobs, no cars, mass exodus. I'm not neuroscience though. Just civil engineering/surveying.
I’ve seen a couple people mentioning that after the show crystal got help for her now diagnosed BPD and as that was a main contributor to her horrible driving she has since bettered her driving. . I would just like to say as someone with BPD I definitely don’t drive on sidewalks or text and drive because of my personality disorder. That’s stupid to blame bad driving on a personality disorder. The only thing getting help for BPD would have done is maybe make her not burst into tears and scream at her passengers. BPD has nothing to do with someone’s driving skills.
This doesn't come from a place of experience, I'm just thinking it would make her drive very aggressively like we saw. But I'm not sure about the sidewalk part...
@@goatsnguns exactly. BPD mostly would have effected her emotions, made her more of an aggressive driver and such. But it wouldn’t just straight up make her text and drive, or decide to go off road and drive on a sidewalk. I can only maybe just maybe understand speeding if she was being aggressive on the road or something, but BPD isn’t just gonna make you go pedal to the metal and drive like every road and sidewalk is your personal highway. That’s stupid.
@@clownrat5759 dang I didn’t even know that. But I wouldn’t doubt it. A lot of peoples first responses to being called out for their actions, is a mental illness or the fact that they were young.
When I was 16 and getting my license I had to practice drive on the highway. I distinctly remember beginning to merge and just feeling so terrified and overwhelmed, and I began to have a panic attack and because my parents had to be in the car they told me to just drive and suck it up. I had to pull into a rest stop to calm down and breathe because I felt too close to the other cars/going off the road and I couldn’t see from my tears and I was anxious that someone was going to crash into me and my parents were watching my every move. I love driving now but it was honestly so stressful and just difficult to do during that period in my life, and I had several other incidents throughout and they all really stemmed/occurred when my parents were there.
I really appreciate the acknowledgment of anxiety around driving. I’m only 17 but living in the US the second you turn 16 there’s this immense pressure to get your license. Even when you’re 15 it’s “so do you have your permit yet”. I have an anxiety disorder and find it incredibly difficult to drive. I’ve tried to practice a few times (in an empty parking lot don’t worry lmao) but it always ends in a panic attack. I feel incredibly guilty and frustrated with constantly being asked when I’m getting my license and mocked that I don’t have it. Public transportation and infrastructure is shit in most the US so it can be challenging to get around on your own without a car (Uber exists but that’s a whole other anxiety inducer). People don’t ever seem to understand why I can’t get my license so I really appreciate the attitude towards driving with anxiety here.
Same here! I’m 20 and still don’t have a permit because even the idea of driving gives me a panic attack. There’s so much stress around getting one and I’m constantly pressured about it but no one really seems to understand how actually terrifying it is for me. I’m glad to see I’m not the only one :’^)
I feel you. In my country you get your permit at 18 but what you said still applies. Getting my license was an absolute nightmare, i struggle with anxiety and my instructor was a dick, he would yell at me when i made the slightest mistake and he didn't have any patience, at one point i got so frustrated that i started crying in the car. Idk how it works in the US but here you have to take a multiple choice test first and then you can start your driving lessons with a permit that also allows you to drive your own car with an adult as a supervisor. You have to have a sign on your car to show that you're a student driver and people in the street are somehow meaner when they see the sign?? Like give me a break dude im literally learning. Didn't drive for a whole month after getting my license
I finally got my license at 21 :) you are in no rush! Weirdly, driving to me is calm and alleviates all the anxiety of public transport for me. But I understand how overwhelming it can be.
Yep, same here! I'm nearly 20, and in my country you're allowed driving lessons at 17, and to drive by yourself (with license of course) at 18. When I turned 18 everyone would ask me when I was getting my license, if I'd started driving lessons yet, etc etc, and I would always have to explain why not. I just didn't want that kind of stress in my life! Sure, going by car is easier than taking public transport, but I'd seen friends being pressured into driving lessons they didn't want and it was horrible. They had terrible anxiety and mean instructors. Worst of all? We all still lived at home, and usually their parents owned 2 cars, which both of them needed most days of the week to get to work. So my friends would go for an aimless drive during the weekends just to not lose their driving knowledge, but they barely ever actually got any use out of it. Now, I'm lucky enough to live somewhere with okay public transport. It's not ideal, and it takes longer than going by car, but mostly it's doable. I'll get my license when I feel like it, even if that means never!
When I was seven years old a man had a heart attack in his car that caused his car to drive on a sidewalk. I was walking home when I saw it coming. The only thing that stopped me from dying was an avocado tree in my neighbor's front lawn. By far one of the most horrific things in my life. Seeing Krystal drive like that brought back lots of upsetting memories and I feel like she should've had her license revoked or something worse. idk just my feelings tho
i cant believe they put “I have serious anxiety and get horribly stressed when i drive”, “I drink and drive”, and “I was in a serious car accident have and permanent brain damage that affects my driving” on the same level-
Update on Krystal: After being on the show she found treatment for her mental health issues and was diagnosed with Borderline, which was a contributing factor to her driving habits. After receiving the diagnosis and working through things she completed an interview where she claimed to have improved in her driving. So there’s a happy ending.
As someone who hates driving, I greatly appreciate your speech about expanding public transportation. The bus system in my city sucks pretty bad and it just makes getting places way harder. Even if it was a joke I actually think that has some bearing lol
@@gnocchidokey Only if the debate includes "private vs. state-owned", otherwise it's just something all forms of ideology and government have to discuss at some point. Extremist right wingers have just decided to adopt all moronic stances in all political questions, so anything even remotely sensible turns into a "socialist policy".
I remember Krystal. She was so dangerous and addicted to her phone while driving . Andrew tried taking her phone away she'd throw fits, she verbally abused everyone, including her brother, and thought she was better than she was. I think her till for accidents before coming to the show was double digits I'm pretty sure, not just Andrew, but an instructor, walked out on her
1) how the hell did she still have a license after that many collisions? 2) also, those weren't accidents, they were predictable results of reckless, sociopathic driving. Slipping on a banana peel is an accident.
the first seasons were questionable but as the show progressed, they brought on therapists to get to the root of the problem. so while still deeply unnerving to think that there are drivers like this out here, just know that canada’s worst driver ended up trying to help these drivers
It was also just the Canadian version of Worst Drivers. Pretty sure the original was from the U.K. and there have been several country adaptions since. It was just the longest running one and people largely attributed to the main host. As for the show, it's a mix of trying to help and bring awareness to the issue while also setting goals that most don't need to do often if ever so there can be tensions for people on the show that way.
The people showing up are there voluntarily and they don’t have the power to strip them of their licenses (as much as I wish they did). I think this show was great. It did seem to help quite a few of the people that were on it. Some people needed the help of the therapist and some just needed to learn driving skills. The woman that was the worst driver in the season featured here was later diagnosed with some major mental health issues that exacerbated her driving problems.
I detested learning to drive and was petrified. I didn't get my license until I was 23. Then over time I was like "this is it?" It's crazy how things can change with exposure.
I loved your explanation as to why humans should be scared to drive. I've always had panic attacks while driving and refuse to get my license because I don't know how to stay calm while driving. My family always makes fun of me for it.
I was a late bloomer when it came to driving, totally failed my first driving test. Lol. If you want to learn, I have faith that you can do it. Take your time to learn, and with practice comes calm and confidence. If you're comfortable not ever driving, don't feel bad. You are perfect as you are!
Same. People don’t understand and try to just force me to drive. It helps to drive with someone who watches out for me and is able to step in if something should go wrong next to me
i'm the same, everyone shames me for not getting my license, even though i have panic attacks just sitting in the front seat while some else drives like : ' ) such dumb stigma. kill all cars tbh
@@CL0WNP4RTY uh I don't think they meant the mental illness, just the behavior. It's pretty common to use psychopathic to mean abnormal. That's the 2nd result that pops up on google when you search psychopathic. Their comment didn't diagnose her or anything, just condemned her behavior. Obviously noone's gonna think that the person is a clinical psychopath by reading that comment. You need to calm down.
@@Ellie-bj2uw why not? It's valid in that context. Psychopathic is synonymous with abnormal behavior. You can't control other people from using words just because the misuse of the other meaning triggers you. Where I live, we pretty much never mean the clinical meaning. "You use (: instead of :)? That's psychopathic man" "Haha" Is there any connection to actual psychopaths? Does the first person actually believe the second person is one? No.
@@stellasoleclark5586 Because it doesn't make sense. It doesn't trigger me but you should not misuse terms or normalize their uses in such casual contexts. Because of that everybody thinks every shitty ex that they've had is a “narcissist” when the truth is that they were just another really horrible human being. certain terms do not belong in certain contexts.
Wait till kurtis figured out that that is how last names are actually originally made… being made up from location, events, characteristics and family associations, trade, fathers name, and physical features
Andrew Younghusband's roast of Krystal just sounded like the Glados bit where she goes, 'the test results just say you're a horrible person. we weren't even testing for that'
Came here to post this and I'll just add my message here hey Mr mayor hi hello @kurtistownmayor dude you know your dad saw the amazing Spider-Man and was like dude that's my son dude! The lizard guy? Dude, that's him.
Having watched the entirety of Canada's Worst Driver, Andrew Younghusband usually cuts up the worst driver's license with their permission. Krystal didn't give permission because she didn't think she deserved to be the worst, and Andrew Younghusband couldn't destroy it because it was her property
They should have just had them all sign a waiver or whatever that would have stated they'd get their licenses cut up. That way they technically had the permission and then Krystal can stay off the road...
Even if they cut up their license they can just request a new one, most they can do is contact authorities and hopefully they do something about the person
I have a severe anxiety disorder, and I didn't get my license til 27. It was a nuisance in a lot of ways, but Im so glad I waited. Therapy & meds were life-changing for me. I really feel for Daniella, Id be like that, too. Hopefully she's doing better these days. ❤
I’m glad you’re getting better, I have a panic disorder so learning to drive is hell, you know? Plus I live in a small town so one follows traffic laws but barely any sidewalks here so walking isn’t usually a option
I turned 22 in February and just started driving because of the driving anxiety, i go the same way to and from work everyday and have a student driver sticker on my bumper, it gets easier but still terrifying!
i just feel kinda bad for the 2 girls who have panic attacks and that their reason theyre bad drivers, but i havent watched the show so i wouldnt know how bad they are lol
In one season of the dutch version of this show, one of the contestants lost control of the wheel during some kind of test and actually hit the host, who then had to go to the hospital. Shock and surprise, that contestant went on to 'win' the season
Andrew Younghusband also hosted "Canada's Worst Handyman" which was hilarious. He also had a radio show called "Crank It up" where he would play ancient records on a hand-cranked record player. I can also vouch for the guys who run Ink Box, I used to work with them(sorta) great dudes.
I am not fully convinced the psychic lady was real. “I can’t drive because I’m too busy telling the future” is the most cartoonishly absurd excuse I have ever heard in my life lmaoooo
yeah I was fairly certain she was a plant from the moment I saw the staff. Shows like this will frequently add a "character" behind the scenes to add extra drama in case the actual contestants don't provide enough content
i can't lie i love it when you talk about old canadian shows because it's either a show i loved as a kid or it's a show that completely forgot about and get to remember + rediscover thru the video. also this video is how i've just discovered that people in america don't know faber drive so! educational content! love it!
I didn't think it was possible for a shows existence to make me this angry My best friend passed away last month because someone hit them and the driver wasn't looking out for pedestrians. The host telling these drivers that their driving is selfish is probably the best way to describe it. These drivers have no regard for the effect they have, not only on the people they physically injured, but the people who have to be left behind. The fact that these people make a joke out of people who have endangered others on the road and are okay with making profit off of it is insane. I want to say so many things about this show but if I did, it would probably my AP Lang teacher proud so that's all. Edit- I took off the part about Krystal because turns out she has BPD and is thankfully doing much better now. If anything, this is just a greater reason to hate on the producers who made this show
I'm so sorry for you loss. However, I just want to inform you that she actually has since been diagnosed with BPD, and has gotten so much better and advocates for more mental health awarness and such. Her behaviors shown here are signs of untreated BPD, and these are the affects when people ignore others who struggle with mental illness. Yes people with mental illness can do dangerous things, but it's important to understand what makes them different than an average person doing those same things. What's important is she got help and is helping others too :)
FINALLY SOMEONE UNDERSTANDS! I absolutely hate driving, it takes me five minutes to hype myself up before I can because otherwise I will cry if I try to drive. Everyone acts like I’m weird for not wanting to drive but like you said WE ARE IN A FAST METAL BOX SURROUNDED BY OTHER METAL BOXES THAT WE SOMEHOW HAVE TO NAVIGATE! I have had nightmares about driving since I was five years old, it freaks me out so bad and I have no idea why. I avoid it at all costs.
As someone who has pretty intense anxiety around driving and who had to wait until 19 to get their license, I really appreciate the empathetic perspective Kurtis has. It affects so much of your life, and in this car-centric world, your only option is to try and "suck it up" sometimes. But anxiety doesn't really work that way. Wasn't expecting to have my feelings validated in this video but god it was nice.
I'm 21 and I still don't have my license for this reason. Don't think I'm ever getting one if I'm being honest, I process things too slowly and I am so terrified someone's gonna walk in front of my car and I'm gonna hit them before I can process they're even there >-
Ayo! Same here. I'm 18 and still don't have my license (hoping to get it soon though because I kinda have to) and driving is always so taxing for me. I freeze up under pressure and everything makes me anxious. I get so nervous my mouth gets dry and I forget to breathe.
I'm sorry you go through that, that sounds so debilitating. It's interesting because my anxiety is the opposite. When my anxiety gets really high I have an intense need to get out so I go for a long drive and it calms me down. Just interesting how anxiety comes in different ways for people... Hope you're doing well!
I live in a very rural part of the uk and getting my licence was unfortunately a necessity due to the shit public transport links , but it was harrowing and my anxiety disorder didn’t help. I never ridicule anyone for being scared to drive! I suggest getting an instructor who has lots of experience and training in people with anxiety.

“I have to drink a couple beers to calm my nerves before driving.” So. Let me get this straight. You experience high levels of anxiety that make it difficult difficult for you to drive. And to solve this problem, instead of trying any combination of the following: going to your doctor/a psychiatrist to get anxiety medication prescribed, seeing a therapist to work on strategies for managing anxiety, looking up meditations and/or breathing exercises you could do before driving, putting on calming music or an audiobook/podcast while you drive, and taking public transportation when possible, you just went “Ah yes. Alcohol. That’ll fix it.” *How the fuck did you ever get your license???*
Unfortunately you would be surprised by how many Midwest macho men who use alcohol to self treat anxiety because they can admit they have it, just not to a fucking doctor But I agree, anxiety meds are the Truth and the Way (for me at least) Edit-- and the local classical radio station saves my life lol, you've got good tips dude
Fr, I had anxiety issues when I learned how to drive because driving in a lot of traffic made me feel immense pressure. Sometimes the nerves got to me and I made dumb mistakes. However, I got help to manage my anxiety and also learning techniques to make my driving safer and calmer in difficult situations which not only made me less anxious but also more confident. It's scary to see grown adults completely ignore the issue while also making themselves more dangerous to the people around them. Not just for anxiety but for any other issues that could affect other people
Honestly I get the feeling of anxiety. I haven't gotten a license yet but for everyone sake, I'm not planning to. The thought of driving scares me shit less and I might zone out or accidentally panic and hit something if I drive
@@adrenalineactivate You are extremely smart to have such self awareness. Wish more ppl did. I never drive when in pain or anxiety/panic attack... coz I couldn't live if I hurt someone.
I don't understand how they have Crystal on camera, that was shown on national tv, and they couldn't suspend her license...Like, surely, SURELY you could use it as evidence of dangerous driving and take her license from her...Like holy shit.
krystal was actually later diagnosed with BPD and after getting medicated and therapy she understands the horrible person and unsafe driver she was and is a mental health advocate
@@dandylee8525 Not really sure how that works lol, everyone with BPD is similar in some sort of way. But like all people with or without the same disorders, everyone is unique.
I think the least dangerous driver is Daniella, I think the main reason she’s probably on the show is because both going too slow and going too fast is dangerous and can cause accidents, cuz compared to the other drivers they are doing whatever meanwhile she’s freaking out and Lou too because at least she isn’t going too fast like the other guy
When I was 18 I fell asleep while driving and it haunts me literally daily still (at 36) I spent over a month in the hospital, many surgeries, head injury, memory loss and alot more. However, I was the only one involved. If I would have hurt or even killed someone else, I don't think that's something I could live with. People don't realize how quickly you're life can change. Please be safe.
i was nodding out while driving my friends back from great adventure and almost drove off a bridge. They were all asleep and i made them all wake up and talk to me the rest of the way home
kurtis always does that kinda shit. he covers content that in theory youd expect a straight white man to only make fun of on a rather insensitive and surface level fashion, but a lot of the time its the opposite
I actually never realized cars could be a phobia. I have such bad panic attacks whenever I get in cars now (even if I’m not driving) after getting into an accident and losing my car. I’m glad to know I’m not alone and that I can maybe get help for it
Thank you Kurtis for speaking up about driving anxiety. My partner got into a very serious accident due to a careless driver from a company and that has resulted in serious damage of her spine and has chronic pain because of it & still needs surgery. As for me, I’m 24 almost 25 and I still don’t have my license because I have really bad anxiety about driving due to a lot of things I was exposed to as a child, and I wish my family understood that. I really wish I didn’t need a license in order to get a job. If I could avoid driving forever I would.
Isabel, I really hope your wife will get the surgery & recover soon♡ I'm really fortunate to live in a country where a car isn't needed, it's so hard to imagine otherwise..
I got my license at 18, I'm 24 and generally feel okay driving but always feel this underlying impending doom that I will die in my car. I swear every time I get in my car a quick thought goes through my mind that says "I'm going to die here." I cant help it. And it's mostly because public transportation in my country is basically nonexistent and there are so, so so many cars. And most of them drive terribly. I see multiple people running red lights daily. And that's nothing compared to the bizarre things I see people do on the road. It's terrifying. I see more reckless, aggressive driving than good driving. It's a nightmare every time I get behind the wheel.
I am so sorry for your partner and I wish that they heal as much as possible and can support. I have chronic pain from a condition that affects my spine, so I have some idea of what it's like to go through surgery and pain. And due to my health (I was born with a genetic condition) I have never had the ability to drive. My anxiety is real and it's okay to admit that in certain situations, I wouldn't make good decisions. I push myself where it benefits me and those I love, like making sure my anxiety and other mental health issues don't hurt me or anyone else. That is why not driving is a good choice for some people, and it doesn't have to be a negative thing. Thank you for sharing, it's vulnerable to put your feelings out there. Some unsolicited advice from someone who has kinda been there? It's perfectly normal and legitimate to not want to drive and you don't need to know how to drive to do anything, except be a professional driver! In the United States (I'm assuming you live here or someplace with similar labor laws) Interviewers for jobs ask if you have a reliable means of transportation, and the bus is, so just say yes and don't mention that you cannot drive unless you are saying you can't operate a fork lift or something! They can't discriminate based on you taking the bus, it's a legal issue; that is actually a legal protection you have. Interviewers are only allowed to ask if you can get to work, not how. It's part of US labor law and most other countries have similar protections, since it falls under a pretty broad "right to freedom, right to choose, right to choose where you work" legal standard, so most countries with legal systems and labor laws protect this right. As long as you can get to work, they can't discriminate based on how. We are told we have to learn to drive to be successful, but it is certainly not true! Not being able to drive does not hold you back as long as you have a means of transportation. I hope you live someplace where you can find a means of transportation that works for you. I have social anxiety as well, so tips for the bus are: big, noise-cancelling headphones that say "don't talk to me, I can't hear you", sunglasses at the ready to avoid eye-contact, and a scarf or shawl to wrap around me, which makes me feel safe. I always sit in a window seat and closer to a door if I can, but I have come to trust the bus most of the time, as I take it so frequently, it has become familiar. We have to wear masks on the bus right now, so I actually like how that makes me feel safer too. Most of my face is covered, headphones always, and I mostly ignore people if they try to talk to me, just because it's not rude to prioritize your own comfort levels. I know I info dumped, disregard if this is overstepping! I'm surprised at how much this video and the comments got to me! Wait, no I'm not, I am an empathetic, disabled nondriver who is seeing how many younger people have anxiety surrounding driving, and some feeling bad about it.
Same age here, also can't drive. First time I was behind the wheel a car slammed into me. If it would have hit my car a little further down... I don't know if I would have lived.
i had MAJOR anxiety when i first started driving at 17, like actual panic attacks during my first 2 driving tests where i had to pull over to wipe my eyes and calm down, safe to say i failed them both but i just passed earlier in july this year idk how i did it but it’s a great feeling ! honestly, driving IS scary you’re just supposed to control this big metal box and sometimes it doesn’t even matter if you’re doing everything right, it’s other people you really have to look out for
The more you drive the more you will get you know the size of your vehicle and how it handles. Right now you are probably 2 feet from the curb when you park or are afraid to pass in tight spaces on the right. In the future you will know the width of your vehicle and it'll be a lot easier.
Congrats and good luck, I had to postpone my written permit test because my papers were locked behind a safe we couldn’t open, but we’ve been going on practice drives with my parents in empty lots since before we scheduled appointments. I find it’s a lot less nerve wracking when you at least have a minor bit of experience handling the car. Still, I hope my family doesn’t look down on me if I fail any of these tests. I’m more scared of their judgment than failing lmao
And the Texans. I had a mail truck tried to run me down, and a small town… Back in 2005. I was 15, had the go ahead, and was crossing the street, when my cane, travel instructor, suddenly ran up beside me, yelling something. I felt something nudge, then nudge harder, at my right shoulder, and felt my cane being dragged out of my hand. My instructor started yelling, even louder, and shoved me forward, helping me get across the street the rest of the way. Thankfully, I was OK. I do believe the post carrier, or somebody above them, either paid for a new cane, or to repair the one I had. I used the temporary one for about a week, and that next week, had a replacement came, with all of the ribbons that I had originally had tied to it replaced, in the same order, and the same tie, but they weren’t frayed, so I think that they had been replaced with brand new pieces of ribbon.
Honestly for everyone struggling with anxiety when you get behind the wheel, you're 100% valid. I used to get such bad anxiety when we had to drive on the highway and I used to tell myself that I would never drive when I got older. The first 3 years of me driving I never got onto the highway and when I first did, I had a panic attack. I was forced to drive 5 hours on the highway when I was moving and it was honestly the worst experience of my life. My little brother was in the passenger seat and I was so terrified of crashing because I didn't want anything bad to happen to him. Thankfully I've been healing and I started to drive on the highway earlier this year. It's still so scary to think that when driving, one small mistake could end your life and the life of innocent people around you.
Well NOW we don't need masks anymore luckily! The mask times were such a sucky time even though most people complied but we were all so glad when it was over and now I don't see masks at all anymore and it's great to be back to normal again!🥰

I used to love this show as a kid when I thought "just be a better driver" was the answer, but its obvious that a lot these contestants just need therapy and long-term support. So many "reality shows" have interesting ideas, but they just can't help but exploit people who are actually struggling and putting them on display for everyone else to laugh at
yes, krystal actually has bpd and is now a mental health advocate.
Thank you for this Cory D
For real, I have extreme driving anxiety for some reason and I can't imagine having to display my panic attacks for the world :/
I remember watching this show!

He needs rehab AND therapy* Not only does he have such bad (what I assume is anxiety from the symptoms) that he can’t even operate a car, and now he’s drowning his sorrows to function, that’s like pouring water onto a grease fire
I have the same anxiety about cars and it sucks, I would never drink and drive, but I wish I could function enough to just get my license and even be able to practice driving for it, but I can't

she reminds me of a lot of toxic people I used to be friends with..and definitely seems like the type to cry to get out of situations. I don’t like her from what I’ve seen of her LMAO
Either that or it was scripted I'm not sure which way it goes 🤷
@@tarettime9392 nah she really is like that. One of the contestants from that season came out and said that these people are real and she really was that toxic
Edit: the contestant's name is Lou Valcourt and she made a series of TH-cam vids reacting to each episode of her season on the show
Or, you know, the fact that she drove on the sidewalk.
They have to be the most popular center of attention all the time.
the nerve to voluntarily go on a show called “worst driver” and then cry when you’re told you’re a bad driver

@@anahand4137 so u just spread hearsay although ur not sure if it’s correct? 🤨
She was verbally abusing literally everyone on set, her own brother left out of embarrassment, the host even left the car because she wouldn't stop screaming at him.
she seems like the type of person that would blame the consequences of her own actions on stuff like horoscopes and undiagnosed illnesses
It can literally be life or death to be a poor driver to a certain degree, and this show genuinely helped people to become better as they graduated.
i love how you can tell her favorite way to manipulate is just start crying 😂😂😂

There are also names that end in “son” that literally just mean “son of ____” (johnson, erikson, peterson, carlson)

this video in general was *chefs kiss* but thank you for specifically talking about how real and valid driving anxiety is. the amount of times people have been like "so what? its so easy are you dumb!" when i literally get so panicked i would be endangering others is insane
I'm sorry you have had awful people invalidating your fears and anxiety :(
I didn't get my license at 16 because I kept crying at the wheel. Luckily my parents, siblings and friends never pressured me or made fun of me for it. I stay in big cities and use public transit. At 30 now I'm getting my licence at my own pace and it's going much more smoothly. Aiming to get my full license in the spring! 🤞 I appreciated Kurtis mentioning that driving anxiety is real and valid too~
same! ppl didn’t understand why i didn’t go and get my L’s as soon as i turned 16 but the thought of being on the road freaked me the hell out. after a month i felt so pressured to get my L’s from family and friends that i did (and passed) the required theory test. but now whenever dad says “let’s do some practice driving” i freak out so much behind the wheel and am only willing to drive around my driveway. ty for commenting this bc it is nice to know there r other ppl who feel/have felt the same way
Honestly. I still get anxious on busy roads

They used to cut up the "winner's" license in early seasons, but the traffic minstry told them to stop that.
They (mostly Cam Wooley) still managed to get a few of them taken away in later seasons.
BPD ain't got nothing to do with it.
literally!! as someone else w/ bpd, it's incredibly illogical to blame something like that on bpd.
yeah and on top of that, mental illness is NOT an excuse to put peoples LIVES IN DANGER! she could kill someone driving like that and she doesn't even care. even if her BPD was an excuse, she still shouldn't be allowed to have a license. there are plenty of disorders that genuinely do make it dangerous to drive, and people with those disorders are not allowed to drive for that reason. her whole attitude just made me so mad 😭😭😭
I have BPD myself and got my license at 29. Took me months to build up the courage to even go the standard "10 above the limit" everyone follows where I am. I'm constantly terrified I'm being a bad driver.
How do these people not get arrested after admitting to crimes like hit and runs, and driving under the influence??
Fr like the evidence is right there
It very may well be true but if they just say they were told to say it by producers nothing can be proved.
Also, quite random and a bit unrelated, but in Dutch, being confused is called "in de war."
Derived from the Germanic Werra, which meant something like fighting or changing, shaking something, tension, bickering etc.
The English emphasized the violent part of of that word and made it into "War" and used it for "war" (the Dutch call that oorlog.)
And the Dutch took Werra, changed it to "War" and they emphasized the confusing and chaotic part and used it for "confusion."
Remembering 2017 when during the filming of "the worst driver of the Netherlands" an contestant hit the host of the show and a cameraman. Great times.

Dude ur doing great
Hey, I used to have really bad driving anxiety too.
Good for you for staying determined to still get your license! Driving is scary enough without having anxiety. You're stronger for working through it

Wtf

Oh honey 😢
I'm a neuroscience major and I can confirm that socialism is when no cars. Keep up the great vids Kurtis!
omg same! I just started the neuroscience program, what are you going for? I’m going for pediatric neurosurgery so I’m premed :)
I am also a neuroscience major and can agree
neuroscience = socialism? 🤔
I was born in socialism. Nearly everyone had cars, and this was 70s, 80s, 90s. Then we fucked up all the cars while "switching" to capitalism. Now no jobs, no cars, mass exodus. I'm not neuroscience though. Just civil engineering/surveying.
Huh?
THANK YOU. her mental illness doesn't justify her being an awful person
And supposedly, another star on the show came out to say she lied
Wishing y’all the best! Always try for mind over matter but move at your own pace!!

As someone who hates driving, I greatly appreciate your speech about expanding public transportation. The bus system in my city sucks pretty bad and it just makes getting places way harder. Even if it was a joke I actually think that has some bearing lol
Also, great public transportation actually is a part of socialism!

It would actually help against the shitty drivers too, cause people who don't want to drive wouldn't have to.
I remember Krystal. She was so dangerous and addicted to her phone while driving . Andrew tried taking her phone away she'd throw fits, she verbally abused everyone, including her brother, and thought she was better than she was. I think her till for accidents before coming to the show was double digits
I'm pretty sure, not just Andrew, but an instructor, walked out on her
1) how the hell did she still have a license after that many collisions?
2) also, those weren't accidents, they were predictable results of reckless, sociopathic driving. Slipping on a banana peel is an accident.
She looks like Velma from Scooby Doo
the first seasons were questionable but as the show progressed, they brought on therapists to get to the root of the problem. so while still deeply unnerving to think that there are drivers like this out here, just know that canada’s worst driver ended up trying to help these drivers

I didn't think it was possible for a shows existence to make me this angry
My best friend passed away last month because someone hit them and the driver wasn't looking out for pedestrians.

Unfortunately you would be surprised by how many Midwest macho men who use alcohol to self treat anxiety because they can admit they have it, just not to a fucking doctor
But I agree, anxiety meds are the Truth and the Way (for me at least)

I'm really fortunate to live in a country where a car isn't needed, it's so hard to imagine otherwise..
“Canadians are so nice.”
Meanwhile, Andrew Younghusband: “you’re a selfish idiot…a horrible person.”

He was actually born in Australia. 🤷♀️
Someone once said that Canadians are Canadian everywhere except for on the road and in the rink. Maybe the road extends to conversation about the road

i had MAJOR anxiety when i first started driving at 17, like actual panic attacks during my first 2 driving tests where i had to pull over to wipe my eyes and calm down, safe to say i failed them both but i just passed earlier in july this year idk how i did it but it’s a great feeling ! honestly, driving IS scary you’re just supposed to control this big metal box and sometimes it doesn’t even matter if you’re doing everything right, it’s other people you really have to look out for
Congrats on passing this year! It also took me 3 tries hahah
Congratulations on passing!
We need Americas worst driver and 90% of contestents are floridians
I love how kurtis is trying to tell people that he lives in Canada while he has a pillow that literally says Toronto on it

I'm so glad I'm not the only person who saw it, I screamed "that's Velma!!" When I saw her
Honestly for everyone struggling with anxiety when you get behind the wheel, you're 100% valid.
I'm glad you're confronting your fear, though. It's more progress than I've made
Thank ya... I didn't get my driver license until my mid twenties could of my bad anxiety.
I know he's joking about Shoemaker, but that's literally how that last name came about.

Krystal is the type of person who refuses to wear a mask, gets covid, and then goes to the grocery store to spit on all the fruits and vegetables.
Yeah. I can see her in some grocery store in Lethbridge, or Canmore just coughing and sneezing all over shit.

Krystal looks exactly like Velma with the hair, glasses, and orange shirt!🤣
Well NOW we don't need masks anymore luckily! The mask times were such a sucky time even though most people complied but we were all so glad when it was over and now I don't see masks at all anymore and it's great to be back to normal again!🥰
With Krystal's brown bob, black glasses and orange shirt, I was expecting a joke like "maybe this is why Velma wasn't allowed to drive the Mystery Machine"

That would’ve been genius 💀💀💀
