What did the dad go to prison for? I bet it was hurting his daughters or some other girl/woman? No surprise about either. She should have listened to the feminist so she didn’t end up a stripper.
I'm all for feminism but my issue so far from first impressions of that family is that it kinda defeats the point if they're telling their daughter they're not allowed to wear makeup and sparkly nail polish. The whole idea of feminism is to empower women and allow them to wear and look how they want. You defeat the whole point if you tell your daughter she isn't allowed to wear feminine stuff because... Idk it's toxic or something? Just let her wear the damn nail polish!
old-school feminism wasn't all-inclusive, which is where most boomers are coming from when they speak of feminism. you can see this in the boring movie "Ice Princess" where she has a feminist mom, but it's not a "support all women" and moreso "supporting the idea of what women should be, opposite of what the patriarchy wants from us" type of feminism. like, it's better than plain misogyny, but it's still judgmental and encourages some toxic mindsets too. I will say that that mom wasn't off base sometimes and was willing to listen/improve, though. she had some real points, even if the daughter and father were presumably hamming it up for the cameras.
Alicia and Angie having that food fight moment made me genuinely smile. It seemed like Alicia was having fun laughing without it seeming so scripted, like she could, as Angie said, act like a child, like herself
@9:42 "Fuckass bob" had me dying. That poor little girl having that haircut inflicted on her- I really want to know what her parents were thinking. I feel really bad for her
I had a friend like that growing up that had the most beautiful blonde curly hair and her parents gave her the worst cut. Literally like her mom took scissors from her chin and cut it diagonally up as far the back her head as she could get it. No surprises she has long hair now as an adult
The one thing that got me with the beauty pageant mom was when she said her daughter has a busy schedule. She literally does nothing all day everyday. What's she doing?
Pageants are actually a lot of commitment, (which might be why they go out to eat so often) so I think they cleared her schedule for the week for the cameras.
The daughter was in cheerleading, could have had other activities not brought up since it would clash with the spoiled brat image they wanted to portray.
The Pageant family's daughter confirmed this on Tik Tok and she said thah she bullied and had drop out of school because of this episode portraying her as spoil brat when the producers told the faimlies to ham it up on camera
Eh i kinda doubt that, shes like 16 so everyone at her school already knows what she was like, i definitely think shes not as bad as the episode portrayed but tik tok isnt exactly known as the most honest platform
You should see the interview from the pageant girl. They had her sign an NDA and ruined her reputation by making her more spoiled that what she was. The Christmas tree wasn’t even for the daughter it was because her grandma died and wanted to keep the memory of her dead grandma alive. The show told them to say it was for her.
Alicia spoke out about this episode & how it ruined her family’s life & how badly Wife Swap did them. She actually sued them cause they had the family act this way then portrayed it as real .. then she was bullied at school ruthlessly after this and not able to endure returning cause of how bad it got MANY other families have sued for the same reason, they had them ACT and then it the show didn’t disclose that and it ruined their reputations / jobs for many.
Alicia and her parents have also been arrested. Alicia for soliciting sex acts on the side of the road. Her father for money laundry and her mother for fraud. So...if the episode didn't ruin her reputation that certainly would've.
i was a studio photographer for 4 years and 130 is average for a photoshoot to be honest, it might not have been the sheet alone that shes upset about here that actually was a super messed up thing to do. our sheets were 18 dollars each just under 20 dollars after tax but the cheapest package we had was 150 dollars it came with every image we took on a cd and usually 5 prints as well. Our studio didnt have a sitting fee but some do they will charge you just for the time they had to use its usually like 15 dollars. Not including the pagent dress, makeup and hair, if that was an important photo she probably got it done right after winning which she cant just go back and do again, that was an important memory for her. I'm really hoping in whatever 130 package they got they have a digital backup somewhere, and can go to any cvs walgreens or walmart to reprint it. But based on her reaction that didnt seem to be the case, and you can see how much that photo meant to her. i believe even if this show is scripted, that reaction wasnt. and i feel really bad for her in that moment.
This is a really great point and perspective to think about! Photos are really important to a lot of people especially before everything was so available digitally
As a Quaker, can I just add a nugget of information... a Quaker tenet is living simply, as in no loud, embellished clothing, makeup, nail polish, big hair in extraordinary styles. Small, basic homes with the bare necessities, nothing for the sake of showing off or being better than others. It doesn't mean dressing homeless and Puritan, but keep it simple, clean, and modest (not modest like don't show your titiies, but nothing like pageant dresses).
@@joshuahoover6841 Which is cool. If you don't want to, you don't gotta. Quakers don't force anything on anyone. Please, the Quaker population is too small to do anything to anyone. LoL
yeah i caught that and thought about it. I think it might be a dish served with a side like a lot of menus do. So she might of asked for the pasta with the potatoes as her side dish. I highly doubt she orded pasta sauce on mash potatoes, but if she did I've seen people eat stuff more odd than that.
For the makeup thing, when I was growing up we weren't allowed to wear makeup until we were sixteen with the only exceptions being for school plays or recitals. We could do nail polish but we weren't allowed to use fake nails. I also remember it being a big deal when girls were allowed to wear light makeup in junior high because my elementary schools had rules against it.
It sounded sooo scripted to me. Like did not naturally flow out of his mouse and he’s kind of smiling as he says it which can be a sign of being deceptive. I don’t think the dad was really this awful IRL.
If my only 2 options are hanging out with Sexist Ralph or Makeup-Hating Dad who just referred to his kids as "sex objects", I am staying home. I'm not only staying home- I am deadbolting the doors & boarding up my windows😭
12 days later on this day of thanks, wife swap released their claim on a RE UPLOAD. So still missed out on those views before but hey it’s up!! Happy thanksgiving!!
Alicia gave interviews a year or so ago & she said that the tree was in honor of her grandmother (who died at Christmas I guess) & the whole getting a gift daily idea was producers, not her parents. She got a lot of hate for that show.
When this was airing I had this irrational fear that somehow my family would end up being on wife swap where somebody else’s mom would judge me and make me cry. I was 14 I think so old enough to know it was an irrational fear but I thought about it A LOT
No cause I had the same because in my head, NOBODY would logically agree to this so I really thought people were randomly subjugated to this and that I could be next at any moment
If that disgusting dad sees his daughters as "sex objects" because they have their hair and makeup done, that's a HIM problem and has absolutely nothing to do with the girls' hair and makeup. He's single-handedly damaging their self confidence and self worth.

Both switched wives do good things for the children. One teaches the daughter to do things for herself while the other teaches the girls self expression. Im so glad both of the girls at the end are happier with these changes, this ended so much better then I'd thought it would. I assumed the parents would go back to thinking of themselves 👍👍
I am a Quaker. We're very accepting people. I'm queer and agnostic, and I feel so loved at my fellowship. Also, please teach your kids (especially girls) how to change a tire. A friend of mine was SA'd because she blew a flat and a man preyed on her and dumped her in a ditch (and stole her car). She's thriving now but her recovery was obviously so hard.
Kinda hysterical how every single episode of this show has the same conflict of “ur not following the rules!!!” “well I don’t WANT to follow the rules!!” Like you’d think that a reality tv show wouldn’t have EVERY family take such issue with the fundamental premise of the show they agreed to go on, but I guess the producers thought that was the main draw.
Watch the aussie version. They cover more of the social experiment side of it. The wives when it gets their turn to do things their way make a list of rules (i thin 4 total) that are enforced. And get to choose 1 golden rule that can not be broken. The american version just seems to pander to the drama more than anything.
Regarding the picture, back in the day, before digital photos, those were the prices per sheet, depending on who the photographer was - especially if there were touchups. I can clearly rememeber paying 80 dollars for a family portrait that I purchased from the photographer who took our church directory pictures.
I feel like this show could have had strong positive effects in these families if the show had gone about it a little better. Maybe have a moderator/therapist to point out good points or excess.
That's one thing I've heard from families on the show is that they wanted DRAMA, not any type of middle ground and if you wanted to drop out mid production, they'd charge the family at least $100K for dropping out and would instigate stuff before filming
Its really cute that Alicia got into baking and rwlly enjoys it, that did make me smile. She probably actually hadnt had much she was into before then and having that to show off and being a practical skill is all the better for her. If Karen was worried about her not being self sufficient or working hard baking could be a way to show Alicia she isnt entirely dependent on her looks and she CAN improve and be better at stuff by working at it. I really like that
There’s nothing wrong with wanting to dress up and wear makeup as long as you know you’re just as perfect without it. Makeup and fashion are part of the arts.

Is noone going to talk about sexist Ralph's smile while spraying the tan on? Sexist Ralph is giving off a "inappropriate touch of a minor Ralph" vibes.
10:39 I noticed the same thing and thought about it! I think it's because the firstborn had only the parents to influence them, the second, if born shortly after the first, also. The third, who usually has quite a bit of difference from the first two, is indoctrinated (with little success) and scolded continuously by both parents and siblings, making anyone who enters with a more similar mindset an ally.
This is how you teach your children to trust the wrong people tbh because care seems so rough and hostile so just things in common will convince the niave minded.
1:05 “technology beyond our scope of understanding” being people sending in ridiculous audition videos showcasing their families. At one point I had found some rejected audition tapes that were wild
This really does show how some in society want to pull women in 15 different directions ideologically rather than treat them as self determinant human beings with autonomy. I know the producers did a lot of this but THAT is still telling. Makeup is makeup. It's literally the same thought process as "I want to wear the red shirt because I like the red shirt more than the blue shirt" ffs. The beliefs these people are portrayed as having are so one dimensional it's amazing people didn't catch onto producer interference sooner.
the parents of the pageant family got in trouble for tax evasion and the daughter ended up dancing and getting arrested for selling herself. she is like 30 and still looks to be doing the same. she has also released some “music”
I think Alicia would have had a better life if she was taught to have pride in work instead of having everything done for her. Because she was not able to accomplish much on her own, except being a pageant dress up barbie doll, she reverted to becoming a sex object to survive. Girls who do not learn basic skills cannot adapt to a "normal" life. What man wants to marry someone who will not help around the house, cannot cook dinner once in a while, or will not even do her own work to get a degree in college or a trade school? I am sad to say that her parents did not do her any favors, not that they will admit it.
My stepfather had a home office for years pre-Covid and he almost always made homemade dinner from scratch.. He's a really good cook and the most important thing I ever learned from him was that.. sometimes it's okay to order in some pizza.. Also, sometimes a meal is just leftovers and random stuff you found in the fridge, that you scramble together in a pan, it doesn't have to be fancy or complicated.. (On that note, how gourmet is the food they get at a DINER?)
Your commentary on this one cracked me up 🤣🤣 Not to give away my age, but i remember watching these when they first came out, but seeing them now reminds me how crazy it all was 😂😂
Professional portrait photographer here, I can confirm that while it may seem high, when you break down the price of the shoot, and the print package, yes a single photo can seem to cost that much. Though, it's disingenuous to break it down that way. The Print itself did not cost 130 dollars, the cumulative cost of the shoot, and print package, every photographer prices their work differently, but an average one hour shoot in my area is around 150, adding print to that of course increases your pricing, whether you're printing from home, or sending it off to a print house. I've never worked pageant shoots, so I couldn't tell you what they charge for those, but I know plenty of photographers who work similar events with prices ranging from 100, to 1,000 for less than an hour shoot.

No mention of the other girl never doing homework. 😅
Well the lady is 3rd wave feminist. They all believe women want to dress like guys and shit.
old-school feminism wasn't all-inclusive, which is where most boomers are coming from when they speak of feminism. you can see this in the boring movie "Ice Princess" where she has a feminist mom, but it's not a "support all women" and moreso "supporting the idea of what women should be, opposite of what the patriarchy wants from us" type of feminism. like, it's better than plain misogyny, but it's still judgmental and encourages some toxic mindsets too.
I will say that that mom wasn't off base sometimes and was willing to listen/improve, though. she had some real points, even if the daughter and father were presumably hamming it up for the cameras.
@@LandonStrauss-hc1sc I think that was made up for the show. A lot of it was.

I had a friend like that growing up that had the most beautiful blonde curly hair and her parents gave her the worst cut. Literally like her mom took scissors from her chin and cut it diagonally up as far the back her head as she could get it. No surprises she has long hair now as an adult
Is it bad that I see absolutely nothing wrong with that haircut?
My parents gave my little sister a bowl cut. So funny to look at those pictures now that she is a hair stylist.
It's actually a super cute haircut on her.
It's entirely possible that she got him in her hair or something and they had to cut it short

The one thing that got me with the beauty pageant mom was when she said her daughter has a busy schedule. She literally does nothing all day everyday. What's she doing?
Standing around while daddy sprays on her tan, I suppose.
@@DimaRakesah you make a good point. Standing around is a lot to do.

Interesting
Eh i kinda doubt that, shes like 16 so everyone at her school already knows what she was like, i definitely think shes not as bad as the episode portrayed but tik tok isnt exactly known as the most honest platform
By the kids who do their own homework?? That's not ok though they didn't deserve that.

@@LandonStrauss-hc1scshe could have doen her own homework you can't trsut this show
You should see the interview from the pageant girl. They had her sign an NDA and ruined her reputation by making her more spoiled that what she was. The Christmas tree wasn’t even for the daughter it was because her grandma died and wanted to keep the memory of her dead grandma alive. The show told them to say it was for her.
I don't for a second believe she wasn't obnoxious for real.
Alicia spoke out about this episode & how it ruined her family’s life & how badly Wife Swap did them. She actually sued them cause they had the family act this way then portrayed it as real .. then she was bullied at school ruthlessly after this and not able to endure returning cause of how bad it got MANY other families have sued for the same reason, they had them ACT and then it the show didn’t disclose that and it ruined their reputations / jobs for many.

i was a studio photographer for 4 years and 130 is average for a photoshoot to be honest, it might not have been the sheet alone that shes upset about here that actually was a super messed up thing to do. our sheets were 18 dollars each just under 20 dollars after tax but the cheapest package we had was 150 dollars it came with every image we took on a cd and usually 5 prints as well.
Just like the Bible tells us😊😊

Kinda hysterical how every single episode of this show has the same conflict of “ur not following the rules!!!” “well I don’t WANT to follow the rules!!”

Watch the aussie version. They cover more of the social experiment side of it. The wives when it gets their turn to do things their way make a list of rules (i thin 4 total) that are enforced.
I know the producers did a lot of this but THAT is still telling. Makeup is makeup. The beliefs these people are portrayed as having are so one dimensional it's amazing people didn't catch onto producer interference sooner.
