Yea having researched a lot on this show, it was often the case that’d it take super long wait time to get there car back. Pretty clear that pimp my ride cars were super low on the priority list at West coast customs (WCC). Sounds like the WCC crew was overworked and underpaid due to all the labor penalties they got hit with and I’m sure just wanted to get it out the door.
@@briansmith48 Did they ever do that though? I mean I guess they might have, but I've heard they just made stuff look nice on the outside but never really made it to last.
@@fosty. . Even just for the demonstration to the owner of the car and then the car ride back home to show the folks, they would have to install two batteries. If they then removed most of the electronics then yes, the extra battery wouldn't be needed.
On the show, they actually would often replace the car with a matching model that was in better mechanical shape than the one brought in by the owner. This saved them a lot of time as they didn't have to solve any mechanical problems etc., and the car was often stripped down before the owner's car came in
That would make sense as the old clunkers they got were most of the times beyond salvageable and could and should have been put on the junkyard straight away. It would also explain how these clunkers would have managed to carry all that new, more heavy and more energy-consuming stuff.

I remember my dad telling me that back in the 90s the whole combining 2 cars into one is more common than we thought. However they were done more seamlessly an the car would get a new paint job to hide it. It's illegal of course, these was done without the buyer's knowledge and most of them usually only finds out about it when they tried to sell their cars and they end up only being able to sell it for scraps.

Been binging through your videos because they're hilarious but also my internet crapped out at the exact moment after the guy did the chicken noise at 10:32 and it took me an Embarrassingly long time to realize the vid had stopped and it wasn't a long stare into the camera pause
I remember watching an episode where this guy who was a mechanic or wanted to be a mechanic, brought in his beat up pick up truck, and they literally did nothing to it and presented it to him still the exact same way he gave it to them as a joke but ended up getting him a brand new Ford pick up or something
9:23 I just realized something he bought a brand new car and completely took it apart and gave it to the dude voiding the warranty so if anything goes wrong after they take their stuff back out of the car cuz they do that he's f***** because if that thing breaks down there's no warranty on it anymore
Hate that scion or not, it's without a doubt the most reliable thing that ever left that shop at the end of a pimp my ride episode. Considering its new, and the fact they don't do any mechanical overhauls on the cars on this show....also I've heard they would remove expensive parts like stereos, rims lcd screens etc. Idk if that's true but I wouldn't doubt it. I know it's been said that contestants were often treated like shit.
That first car, the two escorts welded together, it happens all the time. My bf and most of his friends are mechanics, they do that stuff all the time. 1/4 of my 99 forester tore apart at its literal seams separating the body from the floor pan and allowing the rear wheels to camber, my bf frankensteined the car back together with a welder and extra sheet metal, the wheels no longer camber. They've replaced a crushed in roof on a car, cut the pillars off at the body did the same to the donor car and then welded the good roof and pillars on, installed new window and door seals. He turned an explorer into a pickup truck.
I believe the parlance of the time for screens on the back of the furthest back seats was "hater-vision." The idea being you had so much opulence you not only had screens on the front seat headrests for backseat to enjoy, but also pointed out the back window to show off to those following your automotive monstrosity.
I mean you say that his car is going to get stolen from but what you don't know is that actually every piece of sound equipment and all the playstations and DVD players and even the screens themselves are all removed from the vehicle as soon as they're done shooting. Sometimes the modifications made to the body to assist in the placement of these devices is so superficial that it actually makes them undrivable. So not only do you not get any of the cool shit but often they would leave these vehicles as illegal to operate under normal circumstances. Basically they take someone's car that looks a little shitty and turn it into a literal piece of garbage that they then have to have hauled away. It was pretty fucked up.
Fun fact most of the “pimped” rides would have the modifications removed, as well as significant mechanical damage from said modifications making nearly every car on the show undrivable not long after the episodes ended. All in all most people on the show were worse off afterwards.
Nope, not fact. I'm working on a where are they now follow up series on the cars. But I got my wife on the show and we still have her car. Overall fantastic experiences.
This was actually the best possible outcome for Kerry, usually they would just bring in a similar but used car because the ones shown were shit and not worth repairing. But because it was still season 1 and they didn’t start swapping till S2 they actually bought him a really nice car and then tricked it out. Double win for him.
they should have did follow ups. like they come back 6 months later to find out he had to sell the car because he couldn't afford the insurance on a brand new car with thousands of dollars worth of custom equipment.

Youd think hed learn some stuff being around car guys all the time, supposedly
Xzibit is actually quite the car enthusiast; he’s done multiple Gumball rallies and has a nice selection of lowriders.
And honestly I would think at first that would be roofing tar on the windshield as well with the shitty way it’s been applied.
@@Thejordanenthusiast owning cars doesn't mean you know every inch of their repair process. I love computers but that doesn't mean I know what the fuck they're made of.
@@AnAverageGoblin While what you said is true, that doesn’t mean it’s cool to make an assumption that he doesn’t know much about cars.
you have such a good vibe and your bits always make me laugh. Thanks for the content
I loved how West Coast Customs was basically just a chop shop.
You know every one of those guys committed at least a felony or two.
The actual west coast custom shop was a true custom shop this is just a scripted reality show lmao
@@simsatvrepair1255 I dunno they look like felons to me.
how was it a chop shop?😂😂 they literally put 9x more money into the cars than what they are worth .
@@GojiGetsDown then the car is stolen it’s considered free.
If you put $9 into the car you e put 9 times as much money as it is worth; since you got it for free.
@@Egryn when did west coast customs steal someones car?? lmao what are u even trying to say
Chris you could make a 45 minute video on the different types of socks you can buy and I’d watch it. Almost at that 100k man you deserve it!
I wonder what happened to that particular car. From watching a few videos, it seems like every vehicle that was on PMR ended up having a wild ass story to go with them after the show
i know about it and will be doing a video soon on it on my channel ELEVATE WITHOUT LIMITS
I had an 89 escort, manufactured same year and month as my birth. We were meant to ride together haha It was so much work to get it fixed nice, and even tho this kid's car wasn't safe to drive, I would have loved to see them at least try to help it lol
i always wanted an escort gt, never found one worth buying tho. instead, i picked up a chevy x 11.
Shits would fall apart from all that weight looks like the welding was starting to rust
14:51 wont give a guy a hug but calls him daddy lol
Kerry really made my day. IDKY I'm crying but I'm just happy at his excitement
Genuinely love your sense of humor, I just found this channel but its all gold, even the spirit Halloween video was great. Awesome content cant wait to see more!
I needed this! Thanks! Needed a mind break for a bit and just watch something lighthearted. I’m going through difficulty with a new roommate not trying to understand my autism. So I have been overwhelmed a lot the last couple of days.
Hang in there, my friend. Things will get easier, I guarantee.
In what ways would you like your roommate to accommodate you?
Smoke some weed buddy
You've got this! If you need some advice or someone to talk to lmk and we can talk privately anytime just hmu :)
Hiya I don't have autism but I have a tbi so I understand what you're dealing with, and it is one of the hardest things to do to just function while nobody is even making an attempt at understanding you. Anyway I hope tomorrow goes better for you, and I hope you can push and find the strength to keep going. If nobody else believes in you I will :)
Bro you gotta cover more old MTV shows. Next and Parental Control were both fucking PRIME mid-2000s television. Absolutely savage stuff lol.
I can never get old of your videos of Pimp My Ride you can make 200 of them and I'd still be wanting more keep up the great work dude.
Here I am, for the third time, requesting an hour-long video of Chris watching various episodes from our favorite shows.
YEEEEES‼️‼️
Dude you're so close to 100k! You should celebrate by watching Babe (for the first time) while eating a Hungry Man dinner. You know, for the memories and shit.
I remember this episode when it aired. Was always a car guy but even my 8th grade self was like (bro he shouldn't be driving a seam welded car). This guy honestly got the best deal on the show and a free (or at least maybe tax only) new Scion box- and those were fun back then haha
Who knows if he had to make car payments... But insurance and personal property taxes definitely went way up!
I exhaled out of my nose humorously at the “can’t wait to play Green Day on this” 😂
Even now, Green Day = Baby's first punk band. 😅
They actually replaced multiple cars on the show with one similar, but not tell the audience.
why did your pronunciation of 'Green Day' make me laugh so hard
You’re about to hit 100k!! You deserve it You are hilarious. You’ll be up there with drew and Danny in no time
Who are they?
@@dizzy1369 Danny Gonzalez and Drew Gooden
10:29 BRO THAT IS SNOOP DOG WITH THE MICHEAL JACKSON EFFECT WTHHHHH 🤣🤣🤣🔥
Still don't understand how you haven't blown up yet. Genuinely one of the funniest. Keep up the great content bro
That thing is a metal cube sitting in a landfill by now. Kerry is like 36 and is probably in therapy to deal with the cringe....
"They made me dance.... THEY MADE ME DAAAAANCE!"
I watched some of this show as a kid, and I remember being mad that they didn't just fix the car. I was so genuinely worried the client would hate their car bc they didn't ask for all of the cosmetic stuff. What if they didn't like the screens and colors? 🤣
For those who are interested I am doing a full where are they now follow up series on the cars of the show. I got my wife on the show and we still have her car. Lots of stuff up at my nook of the internet.
Not Xzibit calling another grown man "daddy" yet refusing a hug...
usually when there's 2 cars welded together into 1 its either stolen or the front of one and the back of another was totalled and they do a cut and shut job on it by the looks that was 2 stolen cars i bet it dosent have a VN number
I want a 2022 follow up on Kerry. He’s fantastic.
Wonder if he’s still driving it today 🤔
"Overhaulin" was a show that came on around the same time as "Pimp My Ride" but on TLC, me and my dad love that show the most because the upgrades that they did were tasteful and they actually worked on the car's internals
I'm sure Hello Fresh loves the "Hello Fresh ad end" chapter lol
The "before and after" transitions were almost as amusing as the circus they turned that toaster on wheels into
I can only think about how much his insurance skyrocketed over having to make this brand new car street legal
These people don't live in the best neighborhoods and usually had their cars stolen or stripped in a few weeks. I remember reading that a few years ago
The thought of him at the wrong house talking shit on a car and the owner coming out is effin hilarious! That's all I can think about now LMAO
It’s actually pretty common to cut a car in half, ship it, and weld the body back together… Depending on the skill of the welder, the new frame can be as strong or stronger than the original!
As a car guy, you're good to flame that Scion Xb. That cube model was horrible
"I don't know how it's held together" -while looking straight at the welds holding it together.
Back at it again with the boy Chris James... On a side note, the white dude at the shop looks like a mix of Steve-O and Jordan Belfort
15:03
_"fuckin' sick, I can't wait to play Green Day on this"_
💀
+ the way you said "Green Day" like an AI bot 😂
*Watches this instead of doing my homework at the library*
Same....
4:45 The smoothest sponsor transition I’ve ever seen on TH-cam, dude you are a legend😂 im subbing +thumbs up🎉
Dare ya to buy a box of factor
shoutout to the White Snoop Dogg at 9:47
i was literally about to comment the same thing. Aren and snoop dog are interracial doppelgängers
Cannot believe I haven’t found you before. One of my favorites now ❤️
I drove a Scion xB for years. Yes, it is a refrigerator on wheels, but I sure do miss the thing. The mileage was insane, it was comfortable, very safe, mechanically the cheapest car to maintain I have ever owned, roomy and so on. RIP Purple Toaster
You should try and find the people in the video and see how things went after the cameras were gone. Like how long he kept the vehicle, what issues he had with it.
Been binging through your videos because they're hilarious
but also my internet crapped out at the exact moment after the guy did the chicken noise at 10:32 and it took me an Embarrassingly long time to realize the vid had stopped and it wasn't a long stare into the camera pause
No idea why I laughed so hard when he cut to the editor.
That guy doing the wrap looked like a dollar store Snoop Dogg
I remember watching an episode where this guy who was a mechanic or wanted to be a mechanic, brought in his beat up pick up truck, and they literally did nothing to it and presented it to him still the exact same way he gave it to them as a joke but ended up getting him a brand new Ford pick up or something
Yo they promoted the hell out of that episode. Commercials for days they teased that finish
"Hey man what happened to my sister's car seat?"
"Yeah you should stop at Walmart on the way home."
I swear Chris’s hair grows at three times the rate of an average person, you got hella keratin in yo body son
Love these keep them coming
chris you're one of my favorite youtubers. why the hell did you say green day in that cadence
Dude.... the Scion is actually a pretty sick car!!!!
I believe the parlance of the time for screens on the back of the furthest back seats was "hater-vision." The idea being you had so much opulence you not only had screens on the front seat headrests for backseat to enjoy, but also pointed out the back window to show off to those following your automotive monstrosity.
They actually did something good for the kid. I bet he sold it soon after.
He should have stripped it for parts the second the crew left.
Enjoy the walk down memory lane, good stuff.
When Chris start imagining what it would be like if Xzibit was at the wrong house I absolutely lost it hahaha just picturing that is absolute gold
they should have did follow ups. like they come back 6 months later to find out he had to sell the car because he couldn't afford the insurance on a brand new car with thousands of dollars worth of custom equipment.
a lot of guests also had their cars broken into or the entire thing stolen
3:19 watching the transitions are so cheesy its funny. I love it. I love it So much.
God I love when you do these! I used to watch this show back in the day and as a car guy I always knew it was a terrible joke 😂
Edit: yes, I as well hate the Scion baby shoe car 😂
