When I say this please don't think it's some sort of attack as I love this channel; but I've watched the channel a while, and even scanning back through the vids now, you haven't really driven a lot of hot hatches, so it's no surprise this is your top pick of them when half of the previous ones weren't performance ones either.
Although honestly it could be my bias kicking in as I live in the UK/EU and we have a large choice of hot hatches here compared to you guys. Some of the cars we have would be great for the likes of these roads!
What are some examples of better/equal hot hatches you have that we don't? I'm not disputing, I fully believe you, I just am curious since I know nothing about foreign (to me) auto markets.
The term 'better' varies from driver to driver tbh, and I'm not clued up on which ones exactly you don't have, but, to name a few new cars and classics;
Hyundai; i30 N
Seat; Leon Cupra 280, Cupra R
Peugeot; 308 GTi, and it's predecessors; such as the 106 Rallye which people still rave about to this day
Audi; S1 sportback, RS3 sportback (probably the quickest hot hatch on the road in standard form?)
Vauxhall; Astra VXR, Corsa VXR
VW Scirocco R
Renault; Megane RS (275, 265, 250, 225, and the pinnacle R26.R and 275 trophy-r), Clio RS (220, 200, 197, 182, 172, V6)
BMW; M140i
Honda; EP3 Civic type R, also not sure if you guys get the EK9 yet.
Ford; Escort RS Cosworth, the older RS500
Mercedes; AMG A45
Everyone complains about the exhaust... the audio was off a bit because they were recording the exhaust outside the car, and pairing it with the shots... you can hear the REAL exhaust in a few shots. I own a focus rs and exhaust sounds great. You guys need to use your head instead of looking for reasons to shit on a great car

If the majority are complaining about a shit exhaust note then clearly the majority think it sounds crap. Its an amazing car yes but dont get butthurt over what other people say about the car

+arumrunner As a cage driver I appreciate when bike riders are good enough to not lane split traffic lights at a right/left hand turn, stand their bike directly in front of my car, then force traffic to wait for them to finally get moving and find their way around the bend from a standstill. Lol, just kidding, bike riders do that shit as often as they whine about drivers not staying in their lanes! That is to say, they do it at every possible opportunity.
NB: it's easy to stay in your lane in a light AWD if you aren't pushing it to the redline. I'm not criticizing Markus, I'm just speaking from personal experience, and he looked to be taking it pretty easy in the video. Not his car and he doesn't want to have the Feds busting in his door.
I’ve had my RS from last year totally rebuild almost everything from spark plugs to engine to head gasket, pistons you name it EXCELLENT MANS CAR

I spent 16 years of my life in a '79 RX7, '85 560SL and an '89 Civic SI. The Mazda was a go-cart. An inch off the ground and a lot of fun but not real fast. The Benz was very fast but had serious oversteer and I learned some things real quick. The SI was seriously under powered but owning a new home, I needed a fun (cheap/reliable) car with good gas mileage.
I just drove my son in law's RS. It may or may not be faster than the Benz. It sure handled 10X better but was obviously not as smooth. The car felt like the Honda (as in ride wise) which shocked me. I expected the Focus to be bumpy and rough. Like I said, it was no Benz, it wasn't a go cart but felt like those old Honda's before they went insanely soft. Just the ride, that is. A tad rough around the edges, not soft but not hard.
The precise steering is amazing. The cornering etc is at least as good as the RX7 (been a long time) but it didn't feel like a go cart (although I loved that feeling and that car). This car is special. Kind of a combo of everything good I've ever driven. I wish it didn't have the racer boy spoiler and I'd pay to remove it.
Anyone thinking of buying this should disregard the 'horrible local driving' rep as that's BS. Maybe an Evo might deserve that rep but this car does not.
I did HATE the idiot gas/1st gear thing. I'd prefer to apply the gas. I know how to balance any manual on the steepest hills and don't need help. I also thought the car was too loud and he did everything he could to make it less noisy.

I have an RS and I enjoy it daily ,don’t care if it’s built in Mexico or Germany ,if the exhaust makes to much noise ,all I can say is RS owners all like it and don’t hate cuz you ain’t got one

The snap crackle pop adds about another 30hp. Looks like Latigo Canyon, super tight technical road. Lol that road makes me nauseous too after a while.
The crackle and pop is noted by tuners to NOT add any additional hp from the tune, it is just for the sound.

Technically the Ford focus is designed and tested in Europe/UK. And then it is built in different countries all over the world.

Based on some of the comments below, this 3480 lb hatch, if pumped up to 550 hp, could handily dust off a CLS63 all day. And, speaking of cars blowing up, I've seen more Lamborghini, mercedes and Tesla's catching fire than any Focus. That is because lots money doesn't buy brains though it might only be able to buy the car but not the skill to drive them . More wealthy folks crash cars than anyone else.

Heel-toeing is fine? Are the pedals aligned in this model? I got the st and it's so damn stupid the brake is high up and the gas is down low. Tried to heel toe and I felt like an idiot trying.

What bonnet vents are you using?
The recall would mean a total engine redesign . the middle two bores can walk around under heat and boost . they use a floating bore design and should have let cossie do the engine.
Nice RS and venue! Granted will not need smog for awhile good thing with not cats. However California is ridiculous now with noise regulations on exhaust.
Does anybody know what changes ford did to this 4 cylinder before putting it into the new 2019 st?
Hopefully the 2.3 EB head design has proven to be solid, after the gasket failures and block cracks have happened earlier on, due to the "open deck" design of the head compared to the 2.0 EB (Focus ST) "closed deck" design which is much stronger, although less cooling capacity.

What was ford thinking with that open deck design for this car?? The ST uses a closed deck block and can support a lot more power reliably vs the RS.
Best engine mod is to get a Focus ST 2.0 block and stroke to 2.3L and then go to town.
Not sure when you filmed this, but they have sent out a recall for the HG

you're right, in assembly some engines received the wrong HG.
As much as I love pops and crackles, doesn't unburnt fuel mean rich and thus not optimal power?
Ramses those cars are engineered to pop and crack.. nothing related to bad tune or efficiency.
Crackle tunes are the latest ricer thing. They are not good for the car. Kids just don't care.
They are OEM, come with a warranty, and passed EPA and EU emissions. The pops are not harmful.
Thats incorrect. The fake engine noise generator only adds cabin sound, the pops are from the engine and come out the exhaust.

the rs didnt crackle before release there is a series of videos that followed its development, think it was the American ford performance boss that told the engineers to make it pop and bang, they said no its dumb it'll just waste fuel, bosses said do it anyway. so thats why it crackles.
