The golf R DSG is basically dead even with the focus RS from a standing start, with an APR tune its 1/4 mile and 0-60 times are on par with a stock RS3.

Back some 20 years ago, hatches had these figures that would be considered puny todays and they felt monumental to me. Hammer down, turbo spools up a few seconds later and the push on the back felt Millenium Falcon quick. Today, i seem unable to have fun in anything under 200 bhp accordingly to the media and fanbase. The BRZ is a 200 hp car, NA, stick manual 6, feather light, 2+2 seater, economical and affordable. It get's mocked by nearly everybody. I came to the conclusion that the vast majority of people don't have pleasure driving "just because car" but humiliating other drivers is the real thing apparently. These times are both fun and sad. Sorry for the rant haha

I'm a RS fan no doubt. But I love hatchback cars. So all these cars are just beasts to me personally. Would want to have a garage of hatchbacks with these beauties.

To me the RS3 won even before the race started because 5 cylinders. Thats it. Even if it wasnt 400hp I would still love it because audi had the guts to keep their icon alive, not many companies are willing to do that especially novadays
I like Audi too, but that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. If more cylinders = winning, then why is Porsche flat 6 destroying ferrari, Mclaren, etc etc with v8 and v12? There's weight distribution, cam profile, drive system, tires, launch control system, clutches, turbo lag and psi, bore and stroke (displacement), fuel management, etc etc etc etc.

If I wanted a drag car I, of course, wouldn't have bought the Type R but I wanted a drivers car; an all-rounder. An engineering masterpiece by Honda. I'm not interested in having a car that's fastest in a straight line! When would i ever drive like that? I don't. I like a car that handles well and is great around the bends and twisty roads; comfort and practicality. I wanted a car that doesn't look the same as everything else or 'just another hatch/hot-hatch. So happy with my choice and i get so many people commenting, positively, on how it looks. Not bad considering it's looks are so 'divisive'. I wouldn't have received so many comments if i had chosen any of the others. Not that it's about that, of course! :)
Remember when Alfa Romeo wedged a big V6 into a 147 GTA, and VW did the same with a Golf R32? More cylinders made those hot hatches special. Same goes for the RS 3.
Loved the 147 GTA. I currently have 2015 RS3 and FK2 Type R. Both not as good as the latest versions but still great fun. Plan for both when the warranty's are out is to Stage one remap.

@@Bladesje A well-engineered car with a good driver is going to do well on a track regardless of where the drivetrain is. You do know that the Type R makes much faster times than all those cars on the track right? FWD, RWD and AWD all have their strengths and weaknesses.
That Audi 2.5 is a legend of an engine. No wonder they fitted it to the TT as well, a miracle engine. The Focus would be the most fun to drive though, it and Fiesta are crazy fun to drive (own S3 and Gti myself)
The RS's performance is a direct result of product placement on Ford's part, they didn't want to disenfranchise Mustang owners. They were ready to release a 400HP RS but nixed the idea specifically because it would have put them into a position of having to beef of the Mustang line and risk angering existing owners. I took my RS to mountune and upgraded the intercooler, all of the induction tubing, DP, and v2 catback (420hp/500lb at the crank). So for an extra $4/k USD, I got a car which will beat the RS 3. Since then the best contender I've run against was a Jaguar XJR which eeked away from me at about 2mph.
All right, good job! I still think that it would help to see them going around a track. Don't get me wrong I'm a big Audi fan but I also would like to see their handling around the corner rather than just a straight line.

Bit of a pointless drag race, obvious rs3 and a45 would become 1 and 2 but why not include an auto m140i and an auto golf R? Would have made things so much more interesting, there's no point in putting auto up against manual you don't read anything from it

The issue with FWD is the corners more than the straights, they're extremely prone to understeer but modern torque converters and other tech help a lot
But as you said in the clip the RS3 cost 44k, the A45 from 42k and the golf from 33k. That's not the same price range is it? Then the dsg for a couple thousand more would be more fair.

On the track Audi would have a big problem with understeering caused by a heavy engine. Ford and A45 would piss on it easily. But on straight, respect.

The Focus RS and Type R don't have an auto box as an option. But I agree the R should have been the DSG one. Any drag race with lots of cars is usually a race between the manuals, and a separate race between the autos.

The issue with FWD is the corners more than the straights, they're extremely prone to understeer but modern torque converters and other tech help a lot

But as you said in the clip the RS3 cost 44k, the A45 from 42k and the golf from 33k. That's not the same price range is it? Then the dsg for a couple thousand more would be more fair.

The A45 and Focus RS are also pretty good at corners. The Audi and VW are understeer machines though, for traffic light willy waving only.

Also rs3 in real world driving is so stable and amazing to drive, it has extremely high limit of when you actually feel understeer. My friend Ivan from Testosteeron yt chanel drove rs3 and said that it might only understeer when pushing to the limit on track, but in real world agressive driving it also feels very neutral.

So what class is the S3 in? Focus RS, the Type R, they are track cars. Throw them in a race around a track and RS3 would fall behind.
the s3 and golf R are the same apart from a few kilo difference, it would be idiotic to compare them in a drag race. if however they tested these cars in a circuit, which carwow will never do because Audi pays them, then the civic and the ford should do particularly well.

Richard Ferrari owned one and believe me it’s not. It’s the most overhyped car I’ve ever owned and sold very quickly. Even after Mountune 375 pack felt Lardy and slow, lacked excitement unless hammering the arse off it through corners, poor build quality and the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. Not a reliable car. Recall after recall. No thanks Ford. Bye bye

The Focus RS and Type R don't have an auto box as an option.
But I agree the R should have been the DSG one. Any drag race with lots of cars is usually a race between the manuals, and a separate race between the autos.
