    Any uneducated comments about head gaskets will likely get extremely irritated responses from me, or get deleted. The Focus RS is a pretty awesome little car to own, check out the best and worst parts of living with this Nitrous Blue hot hatchback from Ford Performance!

    I have a lot of respect for Ford because of my 2003 SVT Focus back a whilr ago but you're not abandoning the brand by trying other brands. You won't regret to try other brands. It is nice to learn who's good at thid, who's good at that. It makes you discover everything that the auto industry has to offer. It's wonderful.

      Maybe not.
      Just a heads up for you RS owners, I strongly suggest you check out what this tuning shop found out about the heads/head gaskets: th-cam.com/video/CuGodKdRLpE/w-d-xo.html
      They're also finding out that the 2.3L blocks don't handle a lot of horsepower (they say 500+ hp): th-cam.com/video/kvEBXAAy_SM/w-d-xo.html

    • @NW_Pilot
      @NW_Pilot 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      orig6redwings - No worries, the RS puts out 348 hp

    • @orig6redwings124
      @orig6redwings124 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      LRCM - Listen, I'm not bashing the RS. I liked it when it first came out. It looks great and the fact that it came stock with 350 hp & tq was awesome. I thought it would be a great platform for modding/tuning and possibly fill in the hole that the Evo left. Anyhow, stock horsepower may be fine for you (and probably many others), but I know there's going to be a lot of people who buy one and will want it modded & tuned. That's where the issue potentially lies.
      Ultimately, as an owner and enthusiast of these types of cars, I'm just trying to look out for you RS guys. I just think it's important to bring this to the attention of the RS community to let them know what this tuning shop found. They show and explain the potential issues with the 2.0L & 2.3L engines. Hell, they even cut one of their blocks in 3 pieces to show you what they're talking about.
      If you're worried about clicking on links (which I am, too), then just search for TH-cam Channel "Tuned by Nishan" and look for the EcoBoost videos.
      Anyhow, , I think it's BS if people slap down $40k, but they end up buying a car that can't handle the power upgrades, like many other engines can. I have a 2012 Evo X with 480 awhp (which is somewhat near 600 bhp) on the stock block & internals at 50k miles. The point is, Mitsubishi did their homework with the 4G63 and 4B11 (Same with Toyota - 2jZ, Ford - 5.0L Coyote, Chevy - any LS and many others), but it's possible that Ford may not have done so with the 2.0L & 2.3L. (sorry for the long reply - LOL)

    I actually love the ride of my RS; definitely not too harsh for me. And a correction to your statement, it's the whole engine (not just the HG) that's made in Spain. Also, the car was primarily designed by Ford Europe in the former Team RS (now merged with the global performance division) with feedback from Ford US. But definitely somewhere there was a mixup that caused a small percentage of the RS motors to be fitted with the mustang HG, but it's not clear if that was a supplier error or in the engine plant. Either way, Ford stepped up and replaced several failed motors and issued a FSA to replace all the HGs on the 16-17 RS

  • @pr0jectSkyneT

    Just buy upgraded springs to fix the ride. Just the springs. Get one from Mountune for like $260 for example. Also, Steeda is selling an upgraded clutch spring for like $80 (with the perch) for a more linear feel.

    I wanted to like this car...drove it a few times on the back of other cars. Golf R etc.
    Ended up with an S3....just couldn't get over the interior...it really cooks the entire car. That and the HG issues it had.
    Hopefully they build a crazy one with a Dual Clutch in the future to bring it upto spec with its competitors. (Cue the DCT hate from people who have never driven one and think they are a 4speed out of an old Cadillac)

    Car does get a big bump in the torque department with a pro tune. Mine is sitting at 380whp/440wtq on e30 gas. 360whp/420wtq on 93 gas. Got plenty of torque very fun shove at wot. I only got a BOV, K&N drop in filter, pro tune. Stock exhaust and downpipe. Also make sure you don’t have any blocks in the suspension springs, I’ve seen and felt the difference in my friends RS. My car rides very smooth, I’m also used to sport suspension being a little rough here and there.

    from just picking up a wrx friday... I want subaru to have strong competitors. Its the only way we all keep getting cool cars like these. When the EVO left I got worried that those remaining would just start slacking off.
    Also stiff suspension thug life haha. Always seem more noticeable at slow speeds.
    Ill have to review mine versus the one I had in 2010. Interesting changes on every single level.

    • @enochi777
      @enochi777 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@enochi777 had to replace its first part (idler pully) just last month. Currently at ~95k miles on it. Other than basic (and either on time or early) maintenance, it’s been reliable. It’s my daily driver to work etc. versus my 2010? It’s more fuel efficient. No clue if it’s faster. Rumbles gone but it still sounds good enough for a 4cyl anyway.
      Views are great and really the best part of the car. Feels like a glass bubble. Excellent sight lines.
      6spd feels better than the 5speed did (a bit tighter).
      I’ve only added an axle back just to get more sound. The car is VERY quiet in stock shape. Never tuned it.

      Von Sterner yeah they've had recalls for most RS's regarding the head gaskets.

    • @jackhughman282
      @jackhughman282 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      A small amount of Focus RS were recalled due to having the wrong head gasket put in and if I'm not mistaken, ford repaired the damage as well as adding a fresh 100k miles to the warranty for the cars that had the issue. So even if you did happen to get a bunk RS, ford would fix it for free and renew your warranty.

    • @PapaFujiwara
      @PapaFujiwara 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah don't buy a Subaru if you like headgaskets either. The best part when they go you'll end up having to do two of them because "muh 4 cylinder boxer engine". Also when you do get oil leaks there's almost no point fixing it. Any decent mechanic will recommend a reseal because the moment you fix one the next weakest point will go. As for the RS they had the headgasket issue and I heard of several people having issues with the transmission as well. If I had my pick of the litter unless you're gonna buy a 22b sti (the only true impreza sti) get the RS. If it makes you feel any better Ford and Mazda have been working together for years hence the Mazda BK chassis aka Fords C1 chassis ever wonder why the mazda 3 has always looked like a Focus that's because it is one and aside from performance trims (Speed and RS) it used the same engine. So you'll hopefully get better reliably out of the ford. Anyhow goodluck with whatever pick.

    Stick with Mountune for your performance upgrades and you won't void any warranty on the car.

    • @ps3alphagamer12
      @ps3alphagamer12 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      DJ Tony Romeo you won’t void your warranty as long as you revert back to stock

    • @DenonDJTony
      @DenonDJTony 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Why go through the hassel of having to revert things back to stock when you can just modify the car with Mountune which is a certified Ford performance parts that dont void anything? If its Ford approved then stick with the Mountune parts so you dont have to keep reverting the car back to stock.

    • @jaimeguzman5795
      @jaimeguzman5795 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      DJ Tony Romeo Mountune is not Ford approved in US yet.

    • @ps3alphagamer12
      @ps3alphagamer12 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      DJ Tony Romeo thats just pure laziness. You’re most likely gonna be hassled trying to get warranty work done on the car bone stock regardless so might as well as go ham if you can turn wrenches and if you consider yourself an enthusiast it should a none issue from the jump

    • @jrzez
      @jrzez 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wrong. In NA your warranty is voided with Mountune. Mountune is also overpriced. Works as advertised, built well, but vastly overpriced.

    From information I have from a co worker who was on the development team for that engine was saying even in development they where having issues with head gaskets at 25000 miles or 25psi of boost. Supposedly he was saying it's cause the open deck design and minor warpage is enough to cause a failure with how thin the gasket is. I hope your right about just a communication issue. But I guess not working at Ford we will never know.

    • @dudeshark2471
      @dudeshark2471 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      David DePriest it was proven a mishap in the factory. It’s nothing to do with design, no car company intentionally would put out a product that they know will blow at 25k. Just doesn’t happen.

    • @daviddepriest1849
      @daviddepriest1849 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dude Shark I hope that's the case, just passing along the information I was told.

    • @dudeshark2471
      @dudeshark2471 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      David DePriest he might have been talking about the cars that were accidentally given the mustang gaskets only making it to 25k, not the entirety of them.

    • @daviddepriest1849
      @daviddepriest1849 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dude Shark that I'm not entirely sure about. All I know is he was apart of a third party company that did the initial tune for the engine. Maybe though after the issues they had Ford revised the gasket. And that's where the mix-up came from.

    I just hate that hot hatches are now 4 doors. I prefer 2 door hatchbacks. 4 door hatchbacks are cuv/wagons in my eyes

    • @EddieX
      @EddieX  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I find it strange that in America they have to give us the 4 door hatch version, like the Fiesta ST. iirc, europe gets a 2 door version of the Fiesta ST

    • @rowboyto156
      @rowboyto156 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Bryan Olvera then you are into cars like a prius and pt cruisers jk, it might be a generation thing. I grew up seeing good looking 2 door hatchbacks like ek type r, euro focus st, gti/r32, rsx... basically cars from 80s- early 00s. The current market now are making 4 doors look like a 2 door hatchback so i can see why people like them but its not my thing

    • @rowboyto156
      @rowboyto156 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      EddieX i think its because we are lazy and dont like to move our seats to let passengers in/out. I remember when the grb sti first came to the market people hated it. They attacked it in forums and cars show like its a child molestor but now its what everyone is into

    • @kevindust2712
      @kevindust2712 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I used to think that all 4 door vehicles were hideous. While I still prefer the looks of a 2 door, now that I'm a father I "get" having a 4 door because it's so convenient and usable. I recently sold my 2005 Mustang GT and replaced it with a 2010 Mazdaspeed 3 and the MS3 makes a much better daily driver, especially with a baby in back.

  • @MrBillrookard
    @MrBillrookard 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I know the engines can be modded for more low end torque. For the Focus ST, Ford has a power pack which has some minor parts and a revised calibration which takes it from 250hp/250tq, to 260ish hp and 360 tq.
    I'm sure the RS would respond similarly...
