  • Here is a setup video, review, and a quick mic test of my new Behringer UMC-404HD audio interface. I used the MXL 991 in the guitar audio. I was using the Senheiser e835 for the voice test.

    I know this is 3 years old, but i gotta say the volume tip saved me from going insane. I spent hours and hours trying to figure out why playback monitor doesnt work. Im watching this at 2am and i had to get up and try it out, it worked!!!. I was about to send it back in the morning. Thank you

      IF you are using a MAC then no drivers are necessary. In windows try using ASIO4All that should be a good driver. You could also try deleting the driver, restarting the computer, then reinstalling it. I dont have it any more but the entire time I did have it, I had no issues. Windows can sometimes have issues. I dont think it would be the interface, more like a windows error.

Also I remember there being buttons that select what is being sent out to the headphones. I sold my unit so I can't confirm but try that. If not let me know and I can see if i can think of something else.

      I know I might be a bit late for answering but if you used a mixing desk for the drum mic's then stereo out into two line in puts, is the best work round. Only problem is you record a stereo image.
      But if you want to be able edit each track by have a dedicated line on each track, get the rack umc 1820 takes 8 inputs withe the option to expand the digital input

    So, I am planning on trying Quantiloop as a looper solution after frustrations with pedal loopers. Was considering connecting audio and midi using a Scarlett interface, but then I saw the iConnect4. Saw in the comments you use the iConnect4 mostly. Would you say it would be the best choice for iPad connection as an audio interface for live looping with Quantiloop? How would iConnect4 be better than a Scarlett or this Behringer device?

    • @TheAudioDabbler
      @TheAudioDabbler  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      the iConnect is great when you have multiple devices you want to use together. It allows me to use 2 iPads or an iPad and my MacBook all to share the inputs and outputs, midi controllers, and even send audio back and forth between them. It does offer some complex internal routing as well. So I would suggest it if you had more than one device you wanted to use because there is a learning curve with the iConnect device.
      For a single device, the Behringer does fine. I will say that a good USB mixer is a great choice as well. With most you don't get 4 independent ins and outs but depending on your setup. I want to get a mixer soon as I am only 1 person and I am not looping multiple instruments at the same time.

    • @go2ldook
      @go2ldook 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheAudioDabbler I bought one. Hoping I DON'T end up needing 2 iPads for my set-up. It is ridiculously complex enough as is. So it may end up being over kill, but as long as it works. No afraid of learning curves, being a guitarist who had to learn about MIDI on my own. I am just hoping Quantiloop solves all of my looping issues. Pigtronix Infinity came close, but too buggy and 2 loops is limiting. The Headrush Looper is just too big to even consider, and the latest Aeros seems like they took it out of the oven before it was done. Has all the promise, but the most important features from my standpoint seem to be "in development".

    • @TheAudioDabbler
      @TheAudioDabbler  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Potentially, depending on what software you are using to output. It is really good at mimicking whatever you send to it. IE if you are sending out 4 mono signals via the software like Logic or ableton, then yes it would work.

    • @TheAudioDabbler
      @TheAudioDabbler  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      So, no you cannot connect multiple interfaces as an aggregate to an iPad. That would be amazing. Are you needing 8 to record all 8 simultaneously? a good 8 input USB Mixer routed into the Audio4+ could work. Other than that, all the major players have good interfaces, Focusrite, M-Audio has some new interfaces, Behringer has an 1820 model. I think my next interface might be the Behringer XR18. its a digital mixer that when used as an audio interface, can record from all 18 channel separately. I used a one of my buddies and worked great. There is also an iPad app for controlling it.

      yes, as long as you are using a Camera Connection Kit and a USB hub or a Camera Connection Kit 3 with the optional power. It should work just fine.

    Will GarageBand on the iPad record each track separately? It looks like you’re just doing one track at a time.

    Hey, i tried to record 3 dynamic mics together and I noticed that setting the gain level of input 1 & 2 at half the way was ok. But for the third mic (on input 3) I needed to set the gain level on the maximum possible to have the same result of the half way of input 1 and 2. Tried it also on input 4 and it's the same thing as input 3... is it normal?
    Sorry for my English!

    now i'm bit confuse
    should i pick UMC404 or Steinberg UR44C
    (since the price range are quite big too?)
    because in past, i face some unpleasant experience with Behringer Stompbox about sound quality and build quality

      Overall I was happy with the UMC404 while I had it. No real issues or deal breakers. I recently sold mine just because I was trying to clear out some space. I regret it sometimes because it was a good solid unit and I have found myself in a position that I need a portable interface again.

    Gotta buy a camera connection kit, and a usb power pack, and another dongle for cards....I think I may just get rid of my fucking iPad.
    You don't need all these dongles for Mac or PC.
    Its not the way of the future, its the way of proprietor developers making bad designs.

      Yes, cables seem to be the achilles heel of some setups, especially once you start integrating hardware and software together.

    Hey man, have you tried to use the 4 outputs of the interface for samples or multitracks or something like that?

    • @TheAudioDabbler
      @TheAudioDabbler  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sort of. I did test it out for a loop back situation for sampling system audio and it worked out great.
