    Excellent video. I just found this after I had worked out that I could try to use the axle bolt to push the cv joint off. I found it took 110Nm as I was using my torque wrench to get enough leverage. I did not remove the brake caliper but removed the 3 x 10mm lower arm nuts to swing the hub out and back.

    Hi m8 great video. I have an audi a3 1.9 tdi and today I have changed the suspension mount one the front passenger side and my God what a nightmare it turned out to be. It took me hours and hours to do this job. I only put my hands in as I had few days off work. I had to take the full wheel hub out as well as the suspension upper arm and used the hammer over and over whole splitting the rear of the strut with a big chisel.
    Anyway the job was completed one way or another. However when it came to put the cc joint in the hub the angle bolt become really tight. I had to hammer it in few times while tighten it with a breaker bar at the same time. Why has this happened? What I also observed wasn't that bit of grease Kept coming out of the threads or the housing in which the axle bolt goes in. I think my outer cv joint is bad. What's your thoughts? I love working on my car when it needs to. My car is also feeling a bit heavier since this job while driving. I took it for tracking as it also needed the driver side tyre. The guy said the tracking should not okay once the news tyre is on.I did feel the difference afterwards however whenever I turn the steering right to the lift or lift full lock I hear a sort of squeaking sound. This sound is more on the left.

  • @benjaminzhou9503
    @benjaminzhou9503 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great instructions! So it seems removing the brake assembly enabled you to take out and slide back the drive shaft back into the hub without having to touch any control arms. Is that correct? This reduce the likelihood of having to do a wheel alignment after the job. Thank you!

    • @diydaly
      @diydaly  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes that's it mate 👍👍

  • @mumtazzafar5696
    @mumtazzafar5696 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I am.concerned about the grease leaking out on hub but. The bolt had to be forced in. Also I think I have probably not secure the suspension mount the way it should have been. There were 2 arrow marks on top of the mount which should be facing forward and backward of the engine. Whats your thought about the axle bolt problem.

      Great trick. I did my A3 and used the axle bolt to drive the joint off the spline. Took 110Nm for about first 4 turns. Used my 40cm torque wrench to get enough leverage.

    Have you ever tried changing the front wheel bearing on these? I have a passat and its identical hub, so i for saving myself looking to buy the hole hub with a new bearing inside and i have seen its 4 Torx thats located back just where you installed that shaft and my car is just as rustybas yours so did you have any problem removing the 4 bolts or any advice for me before ingo ahead and buy them? I just changed all front suspension and also the axle hub just like you and after it was all done i realized i could hear slightly the bearing on driver side. Just my luck. Thank you for your reply. Its a 2004 passat four motion so the front looks just like yours here. Toby
